And Richard, always sitting at the piano in the background, modest, elegant, spirited, the soul of the Carpenters sound, is the perfect completion of this other-worldly act, the embodiment of that haunting, beautiful time that was the '70s.
this could be without a doubt the most beautiful song in the world...im a 5'11 ..270lb biker & this song just knocks me to my knees, with tears...R.I.P. KAREN love you....
oh gosh...that look she gives right before she returns to richard just sums it up, doesnt it? still a once in a lifetime voice. though others have come close, karen left us with a perfect voice and the memory of perfection, still im fool enough to think thats what i'll find.
This amazing woman never hit a bum note. This is live! Not touched by the tricks of the recording studio. Karen you were amazing. You just cant find talent like this anymore. You live on through your music. I was only a baby when you died but I wish I could have told you in person you're my inspiration.
WOW: how can anyone miss her soft/angel voice.................God Bless Karen...she has just a remarkable voice. Also, she looks so good in this video, doesn't she???
Amazing. This live version has beautiful nuances not found in her extraordinary recording. Greatness in a voice: mellow, velvet, a jewel among jewels, befitting descriptions all; soothing, gorgeously moving on the most primal level, like a mother's reassuring hand at the cradle, like the epitome of the presence of the most beautiful woman in the world.
Wow, that really struck a nerve with me. You can tell how much the song was self-reflective by the way that she raised her eyebrows at the very end....so sad, so sad. God bless her.
karen was and always will be in my heart. I grew up singing her songs. She was my favorite singer as a teen. She could hit the notes and that clear deep voice of hers resignated clearly throughtout my bedroom. She left us her songs to remember her by, the life she so much worked hard at and struggled at times. She would want us to remember her life not her death. She will be loved and remembered forever in the hearts of all. Keep singing Karen. Love forever. Christine
Truly a great voice -- a great singer. Notice how she doesn't stray from the melody, unlike many of today's "singers" who try to impress with vocal acrobatics. The true greats (Karen, Garland, Ronstadt -- just to think of a few) kept it simple, which is really more difficult unless you have a brilliant instrument like these ladies. They sing/sang from their souls.
If you've never been right before in your life, you certainly are now. I really don't think there was one flaw in her voice. Timeless! The only other singer that impresses me with amazing lyrical prowess is Eva Cassidy, and to our misfortune, she as well has left this world.
No singer ever had a more beautiful voice at such a young age as her, which lasted till the very end...Karen just was an Angel, to hear her, to see her...in every single way. Karen, I wish you happyness forever
It s a shame that Karen who had so much love to give never found that special someone. You r right modspell that her subtle heartfelt conclusion makes me cry too.
Karen's born in the same year as my mother, and ever since I've heard her for the first time on a vinyl, probably when I was around 7 years old, I was totally amazed by that angel's voice and that has never changed. There is not and never will be any female singer like Karen
What a sweet mellow voice she had, a jewel among jewels, a terrific talented performer that comes along only once in a lifetime. She is still dearly missed.
I fell in Love with this superstar when I was 13 years Old. My Mother had bought me the Live in Japan Album in 74. I well up with tears to this day when I listen and view the work of art that She and Richard created together- We all Love you Karen.... still.
From Brazil to Karen with love...we miss you, your voice and talent...a star forever in our hearts...this song says so much to many people in the word, including me.
I learned this song since I am 6 years old. I love this song during my mother singing and i sing with her. now it remind me of my mother. I miss her so
I always thought from day one that she had that "something special" that would last forever. Unfortunately she didn't but the recordings will, and this particular "slower" live performance always reduces me to tears !
In a radio interview in 1976 Karen said this song nearly would have her weeping as she performed it; she also explained that the lyrics applied to her personally, as well as to her brother and John Bettis, the lyricist. Thank you very much for posting this; it's beautiful!
Wow - this song takes me back to when I used to think that 'being in love' was the most important thing. now I know Jesus love is everything I need, and the rest is just a bonus. If only dear karen could have found his love before... The price HE paid is high enough for me - and you.
OMG this song makes me cry and what makes it even sadder was that karen was really feeling this way in her life. you could tell she was singing from the deepest place inside of her.
Even english is not my native language , her clear voice helped me to learn and love it . Karen is the sweetest voice I ever listened , hope the creator send more musical groups as carpenters. Love the idea of printing the lirics on the video . Thanks !! From Argentina , Miguel Angel
Love this talented lady and her equally talented brother! But that amazing voice and her wonderful phrasing are truly unique! Miss hearing that lady singing live, so I'll have to be content to play and replay all of their albums. Poignant memories with this song, especially.
If only we could tell her how much she has affected so many lives. A voice like hers - fortunately can live on and on though the recordings. Also - thanks to her brother who gave inspiration and support. I can imagine the eternal gatherings where she is sharing her glorious voice with many many more. I hope one day to be in one of those gatherings. Thanks Karen for being who you are and sharing such wonderful sounds and words with us.
Thx great video Friends and family think I'm wierd when I tell them I love to listen to the carpenters but who cares. Thx to people like you for knowing how to post I can listen to the carpenters while on the computer
Her favourite song was very apt when you think about it. She never felt love in her life ; married the wrong guy and spent her life in the shadow of her brother, even though she was one of the finest female singers ever. And the emotion she put into this and all her performances reflected what she probably felt deep in her soul. I miss her and though I never knew her , this performance and song speaks volumes to me .
You're right: Karen said this was her favorite of their songs, and she knew the words applied to herself as well as to her brother Richard and John Bettis, who wrote this song together. She said she had to fight off the tears to sing it.
I am a romantic and love love songs ! Karen had a pure Gold Voice ! Its so sad she is no longer with us dying the way that she did with that eating disorder !
this is so sad because she's singing about herself; she was so lonely and isolated even though the entire planet adored her. She was so emotionally deprived of love and thrust into fame and pressure instantly. It killed her.
And Richard, always sitting at the piano in the background, modest, elegant, spirited, the soul of the Carpenters sound, is the perfect completion of this other-worldly act, the embodiment of that haunting, beautiful time that was the '70s.
This is the most heart-wrenching, moving vocal I have ever heard. There will never be another Karen.
Agree! Can never be. However, to honor her beautiful memory, we must live our lives by helping and caring for others. God bless!💙
this could be without a doubt the most beautiful song in the world...im a 5'11 ..270lb biker & this song just knocks me to my knees, with tears...R.I.P. KAREN love you....

A perfect voice in this imperfect world.
Karen had a voice of pure Gold so RIP der sweet Karen !
watch her face at the end of the song, she had alot of heartache in her life, she needed more from the people around her,she was so special

Also, she looks so good in this video, doesn't she???
one of the top ten best female vocalists ever
I miss you Karen so much ... you brought so much joy to others!
Her voice was perfection - there has been no other female pop star that can come close to her....
The BEST Female Vocalist, EVER! The world lost an irreplaceable Treasure when she passed.
Wow, that really struck a nerve with me. You can tell how much the song was self-reflective by the way that she raised her eyebrows at the very end....so sad, so sad. God bless her.

Everybody needs to be in love but sometimes it's hard to believe someone can love you when you can't see what's worth loving in yourself.

This song was karen carpenter favourite song. 😍
All hail Karen the great, and Richard the genious. *worships*
this is so sad because she's singing about herself; she was so lonely and isolated even though the entire planet adored her. She was so emotionally deprived of love and thrust into fame and pressure instantly. It killed her.
Wonderful Albert Hammond's song performed by The Carpenters.
Great song really.
I grew up in my teen years singing her songs (even though I can't reach some of her notes `croak'). She has the voice of an angel.
this song rocks!
Touching interpretation, excellent video!
wow!!! i love her voice so much:D
