I can never watch this particular performance without crying every time. The way she rolls her eyes... it's as if she truly believes there was nothing in the world that could love her. It just hurts to know she felt that way.

@@carlsperr Just watched to the video in your link - and have to disagree quite strongly. Obviously hampered by the "language barrier", this performer is clearly, just emulating the sounds, rather than singing the words or the song - albeit rather well. As much as we all miss Karen's wonderful talent, there'll undoubtedly never be another and we must console ourselves with her past performances, both live and recorded, and accept that there'll never be the likes of her again. Sorry - but that's my opinion.

@@carlsperr I have to say she has a good voice but not a patch on Karen she is just trying to sound like Karen and sadly there will never be another one like her she was and always will be unique. The person I think is vaguely similar to Karen is Rumer but again no one could ever replace Karen Carpenter she was a once in a life time singer.

My God, I always want to cry watching this. No Richard burying her under a ton of "muzak" - just her gorgeous voice telling a story her eyes scream is true. Her disease has now progressed and her gaunt, thin, angular face screams the agony in her soul that would ultimately claim her life. Hard for any man to watch this without wishing he could go back in time and be the guy she yearns for in the lyrics and somehow save her life in the process. 44 years later and it still so very haunting.
If there is a God in heaven, I pray to see her someday and scream "what were you thinking!!" just before I then wrap her up in a big hug and tell her how very much her music moved me.

I am loved Karen Carpenter since I heard that lovely "pure" voice in the 1970s. I do believe I bought every Carpenter's album. I could never get enough of hearing that voice. Her brother was a wonderful musician and was the perfect duet. Those harmonies yet warms my heart. When I heard the news of her much too soon passing, I cried. Karen you will always remain in the hearts of your many fans. Love you Karen ❤❤❤

Karen Carpenter, as I've always said, had the most purest voice. Being black, we speak of "soul". Karen Carpenter sang from the innermost depth of her heart and "soul". Artistic expression is that which comes from the depths of our hearts! I would never be audience to anyone who would categorize her. She, simply, was a true artist!
Much respect and love Karen. I hope to hear you again far beyond this earthly plain. You live, and will always live, in my heart!

Yes, absolutely! The real problem with the album version is that she oversings (double tracks) herself on the chorus, which is a complete distortion of her gorgeous natural voice - they did this on some other great songs ("Superstar", for example) and it was totally unjustifiable - why would one take the greatest female voice in pop/rock music history and mess with it like that?!?

2020!!!!! The year of hatred and chaos. Thank goodness I have all these wonderful songs. This was right after Richard went to rehab. You can really tell it’s weighing heavy on her that night. She was a very good sister and protected him. Even making excuses for him. I wish he had her back the same way. ...She adored her big bother and his opinion mattered the most. But nope he didn’t have her back. That probably hurt her most, along with mother feelingRichard was THE star. He should have backed her up on the solo album!! She never said she quit the Carpenters. Sure the whole marriage thing yeah hurt, especially the baby part. She would have been a great mom, too. Anyways, thank you Karen for being my therapist right now

Too bad she didn't realize how much her fans truly adored her. I personally feel that her mother and brother were to blame. I’ve seen a couple different videos of this song, which is one of my favorites. But the emotional depth of this performance grabbed hold of my heart. Her vocal performances always were amazing, but this one made me cry, So many people, including me, loved her so much. It breaks my heart to see her feel like this. She was so very loved, but not by the people who mattered most to her,

just hearing that amazing voice transports me back to my childhood. growing up listening to the carpenters, I didnt realize how blessed I was; how talented they were. Its only through the lens of time that I understand how gifted they were, and how fortunate I was to experience their talent in real time. absolutely humbled to have witnessed their rise to fame. Thank you Karen, for sharing your beautiful voice. Its been a privilege. Rest easy, and may God provide all the love you didnt receive here. you are truly missed.

Rolling Stone that’s a joke to rank her as number 94. The way the world is today it doesn’t surprise me. Everything good is bad and everything bad is considered good. That voice is perfection guess that’s why it wasn’t ranked #1. Cause jealousy and insecurities gets the best of everyone.

I never cared about the meaning of this song before... But when I listened to it from a radio 20mins ago, I just realized the meaning of this song and it is perfect to me because I am still single and alone and never really cared about dating because I am so much comfy all alone but now, I cry almost everyday because I have no one in my life 😭

This is one of my favorite songs of Karen... Lines of the song pierces my soul...The way that people come and go through temporary lives😪I ask perfection of quite imperfect world and fool enough to think thats what I find😪But none of them will.comfort me tonight...Hanging on a hope but I am alright...😪...

Some things are inborn with the attributes in life. You either have it, or you don't. This remarkable lady definitely has it. Love and misses Karen.
