You mentioned at the beginning that the m90 was just a civilian offering never used by the military which is true, mostly. The M90 actually was originally designed by Yugoslavia as a 5.56 official military rifle, but the turmoil and breakup of Yugoslavia messed up that plan and it never reached official adoption. It was however designed for military use, not just a civilian sporting rifle.
@@13bredlegextraordinaire Sadly this is very true. The worst was the recent "Why Almost All Fighters Use The AK-47" Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge AK fan, I love them more than AR, but that video was so bad and full of tropes, including using photos' of FN FAL and calling them AK.. Also worth mention since I posted this comment I read even more about the M90 and own one myself. Not only was it planned for full scale military adoption but some may have even seen combat and some were certainly issued out to front line troops. Kind of like how the SIG M7 is being field trialed, hundreds of M90 did finish production before the breakup of Yugoslavia so it definitely has some genuine military credentials. Even if it never reached the heights it was intended to. Zastava and Serbia did go on to make the M21 5.56 AK the official Serbian rifle, and it very much is a modified M90, kind of a M90 2.0 with a folding stock, polymer furniture and moved the front sight post to the gas block. They have multiple versions of the M21 as well in different barrel lengths; (18 in) (M21 A) (14.8 in) (M21 S) (12.8 in) (M21 C)
Funny enough my M90 came zeroed from the factory. I was hitting steel out to 300 after zero adjustments. Also I use AC unity mags. They’re a LITTLE tight but once you unload and load them for a bit it grinds out the extra material, making for a tighter fit with still easy Loading.
@Michael S And here's Ranko, from Zastava Arms USA, saying that very thing, that the rifles are zeroed by firing, not by the use of laser. th-cam.com/video/9CZu-DqQ4YA/w-d-xo.html

My factory mag has almost no play at all and it seems like the quality control was pretty good. I’ve only shot approximately 100 rounds through it though.
My theory about the oxidation on the rivet is they ran out (perhaps due to riveting mistakes) on this particular gun... and had to source a different batch of rivets, made of a slightly dissimilar metal/alloy. When two differing metals are placed in contact with one another it forms a 'corrosion cell' (basically the same process that a battery goes though). They would need to replace that one rivet with the similar metal/alloy rivets that are on the rest of the gun.
if you buy 1 CHECK it real good i have a m70 is is sweet and came totally zeroed my m90 is rough to say the least. looks like it was dropped on the top of the front sight, the mag release fitment is so bad every mag hangs up on it and the mags are hard to remove as a result, the front sling attachment also looks like it was dragged across the floor for the money paid i expect much better i'm actually very dissatisfied it also has bad feeding issues it jambs up constantly. they sent me a new mag i have not had a chance to try it with the new mag. i hope the problem was the mag wobble, we will see. i wish i looked at it more closely when i did the transfer knowing what i know now i would have sent it back.

It’s still a solid rifle. I just expected better build quality, fit and finish at this price point. Zastava let me down in that regard. They are clearly not concerned about cosmetics when it comes to QC.
My m70 has perfect rivets. My m90 rivets aren't perfectly oval. I know what you mean. I think they are 3rd party rivets zastava is buying. They are sort of crooked and rough on top.
Looks good with that wood furniture. Are you going to replace the stock? Also, have you had any issues with the gas tube adjuster switching settings on you like Rob Ski over at AKOU did?
I just swapped the stock over to wood. Feels much better now. No issues at all with the gas adjustment, but I haven’t used it much. Just got to 500rds and she is running like a champ now.
@@dfwguncleaning7523 Good to hear. I've been eyeing a 5.56 AK for a while now but They're tough to find. I was looking at either the M90 or the CG556 from Atlantic Firearms' MFG group. That blue stuff is oxidized copper. I get that on my ARs even with good ammo. If it was corrosion it’d be everywhere because bluing is a lighter finish.
The oxidized copper fouling is not a concern. The exterior of the comp is covered in rust though. Zastava did reach out. They said they were unsure why it rusted the way it did and offered to replace it if I sent them an email.

Even on setting two, which is the highest I’ve set it yet, recoil was manageable and brass was ejected 20~ feet consistently. Whatever problem they had, they may have corrected it by now.
The zastava polymer mags fit loose-ish from factory for a few reasons. 1st, polymer mags swell when loaded, did you notice the wobble almost disappear when loaded? 2nd, they are designed to fit other rifles potentially. No idea which they fit though.
The polymer mags are still pretty loose when loaded. My guess is, they are made this way to fit a wider variety of 5.56 AK rifles. They almost fit in my Galil.
@@dfwguncleaning7523 They seemed to fit more tightly in mine, little movement without some effort. Ak magwells aren't designed with support like many western rifles. Doesn't seem to cause any problems with feeding, the exception being I.O. , century, bubba, and some pioneers.
