Great tips! I got both my cameras working by simply cleaning connections, I almost bought new cameras too. Thanks! I did find it to be easier accessing the rear camera plug by removing the logo then removing the two 7mm screws and pulling the assembly out to get a good grip on the connection. Both methods work though.
Thanks for the tip on the tailgate connection, have already cleaned the lower one behind the bumper. Another good tip after cleaning and before reconnecting is to seal the plug with dielectric grease, make sure to just put it on the plastic male part of the plug that slides inside the plastic female part to help seal against dirt and moisture in the future. Make sure not to get any grease on the electrical connection points as it acts as an insulator and not a conductor.
Thank you so much, i followed your directions and was able to fix mine in 15 minutes. It had been acting up after I had my truck detailed. Also, to all those saying popping the emblem makes it easy to access the Camera, sorry but you are wrong. Unless you have some magic fingers to fit in the small holes around the emblem assembly it won’t work. Thanks again man!
Just completed this today! Working fine again. I cleaned the connection under the bumper area the same way, at the same time. So, not really sure which one it was. One tip, the connection in the tailgate that is attached is sloped up. Use compressed air with a piece of tubing to verify there is no puddling if the electrical cleaner is present. I used compressed air on all connections after cleaning. Thanks for your your tube tip buddy!
Use 3M dry silicone spray on the silicone rubber seals to aid reassembly. You will be amazed how smoothly they connect back together when the connectors are clean and lubricated. do not use dielectric grease this will collect dirt and push the seal out of place and allow water to corrode the terminals. Before disconnecting use water or windex to remove the dirt and mud from the weatherpack connectors and blow it off with compressed air. repeat if necessary because we all know how difficult they can be to disconnect when dirty. Don't forget the DRY SILICONE SPRAY before reassembly. I learned this from working at the ford dealership.
Thanks for this video. I have a 2014 Raptor and it started doing this last year. For me it comes on and off, mostly off with the car assistance info. I’m hoping this will fix my problem.
@@DamienAlexandersorry for the late response but I tried it and didn’t work. Just tried once again before I changed the camera myself yesterday and now it works. Thanks minute for this video 👍
Thanks for Watching!! Great Question!! Solid Reasoning Behind My Logic...You See What Had Happened Was....I Forgot 🤷🏾♂️ Literally No Other Reason, 100% Would Be the Smart and Better Move Haha Hopefully You'll Remember to do It! I've Since Gone Back Thru and Added Some Dust Protectant Plastic Under the Cover Like You'd Fine Behind a Standard Inside Car Door Panel!!
good video but just a FYI. If you pop the emblem off there are 2 screws behind it and then whole camera housing and camera just comes off the tailgate and you can unplug it much easier. 2 min cam in hands
Good tip! Only issue is the emblem tends to Snap when trying to come off based on my research and conversations with the Local Ford Dealership Techs, this was their alternative way to avoid that issue and save you money by not needing to buy a new emblem!
@@minutemaintenance7385 Got it, makes sense to me. Mine has a all black emblem on it which seems to have different mount clips on it so it pops off easier I guess.
I was having some trouble I tried this but was very hard to disconnect the camera cord your way. I had to take off the Ford logo. Tried to spray the connection but didnt work for me. My next guess was the camera died. I was scared if I was buying the right one and if I could even do it. After 1 TH-cam video was able to pop this in 10 mins. 5 mins to cleanup. The Ford logo on your tailgate has to break to install order one of those also.
Hey Boss Thanks for Watching!! I'm Sorry You Had to Replace the Camera Itself! That's Always a Possible Issue as Well as Internal Failure of the Car Radio/Display System as Well. I Was Fortunate To Not Need One as I Didn't Want to Break My Logo!! I'm Glad You Got it Resolved and Thanks for Postinf your Experience for the Others to Read as Well!
Hello sir ! Thank you for the video, I really did all the trouble shooting in your video and even checked my fuses and still nothing! What would you recommend to do now ? Just replace the actual camera?
Hey thanks for watching! If you're confident in the cleaning of the harness connection, then most likely the issue is the camera itself and would need replaced.
Having trouble getting my hand in a position with enough leverage to pull the connections apart. I’m able to press the tab down with a screwdriver but I just can’t pull them apart. It also doesn’t help that all of my electrical connectors on my truck have like corroded together. Usually I would just use vice grips to pull them apart but there’s literally no room. Idk how you did it. Your hands are pretty big too.
Thanks for watching! As mentioned in the video and the comments, that is an option as well, risk is the emblems commonly break, this video is the alternative option as theres tons of "emblem" removal videos. Happy wrenching!
Dude, all u had to do was pop the Ford Emblem cover off to access the two 8MM bolts that hold the camera in place. Pull it out a bit and you can see the connector. You didn’t have to remove the tailgate cover 😂
Hey thanks for watching! Maybe you're luckier then me, but those ford emblems are known for breaking when trying to remove them! When I called my local Ford dealer to look at OEM camera prices..they quoted me the cost of a new emblem too since its breaks! My way..5 more min..saves your emblem and you money!
Good Morning and Thanks for Watching!! If you don't have the backup camera, I can only assume you have the backup "assist" system? Which If I'm right would consist of 4 sensors all in the rear bumper. Assuming there hasn't been any damage to the bumper, you could go thru the same process of cleaning the 4 circular sensors from the outside, then unplugging, spraying off with electrical connector spray, and reattaching. That should hopefully clear up any issues!! Good Luck, and Happy Wrenching!!
@@minutemaintenance7385 thank you for replying so quickly. I am a female but do maintenance on my truck due to help from people like you. Thanks and I hit the following button.
Hey thanks for watching and asking a question! It should still help narrow down the issue for you! If theres no signal detected in my experience it is a similar issue of a bad connection at the camera or main connector harness (both shown in this video). Whether it be due to corrosion, dust/dirt/moisture build up or somehow it came loose! Assuming it has the original radio and no aftermarket adaptations have been done i.e. different head unit, new speakers or wiring harness..if everything is true and original I'd bet it's a similar issue! Clean the connectors, verify they're fully seated and hopefully you're good to go! If not it will either be a issue with the camera itself not transmitting. UNLESS the bluetooth or other functions if the radio are acting up..if that's the case could be a receiver issue at the radio. Hope that helps and Happy Wrenching!!
Hey thanks for watching!! No special trick! Just pushed it in and mine was able to reseat without any issues!! If yours is having a hard time it could have some unknown Debris still lodged, you're not pushing hard enough (I know its hard it's a very small space to work) or somehow irs damaged! You could always push it in the best you can and then use Gorilla tape or a zip tie to hold it together!! There are other videos on how to remove the rear Ford emblem off the tail gate which will give you more access, however the emblems tend to break during removal which is why I documented this method.
@Minute Maintenance thank you very much for the detailed response. I never thought about decision possibly being the culprit. Keep up the good works and God bless!
Thx for warching!! Sorry to hear you're having troubles reconnecting!! I have had similar issues with different connectors in the past. They become old, warped from heat and weather, or sometimes there's small particles of debris when putting it back together that prevent it from "seating". Its a tight space so that makes it extra hard. There are videos on TH-cam on removing the "ford" emblem to access this same connector with more space to work. Beware: that the emblem is known to break during this process which is why I went this route. If I'm you, I'd do my best to clean the connector on both ends with electrical cleaner OR canned air/air compressor to be extra sure theres no debris stopping it. If that doesnt work you can force it in best you can, then zip tie it in place or gorilla tape around it to seal it. I've used both methods, zip ties are stronger of course, but have had success and no further issues with connecting them that way! Good luck!
Hey...this video gave me so much hope. Now I'm worse off than I started. Have you ever had trouble reconnecting the wire harness? Mine won't click back into place no matter what I try. So I unplugged the harness that's under the truck by the spare, and that won't plug back in either. Anyone else have this issue? Help
Oh No I'm so sorry!! I have had trouble with wiring harness in the past, not this specific one on my end. Unfortunately they are plastic so they can degrade over time and break or just not want to reconnect as strong!! If you have access to an air compressor or a can of compressed air try blowing out both ends just in case theres some grit you cant see lodged in somewhere! If that wont work..whenever "I" have a broken wiring harness on a personal vehicle, I'll reconnect it and zip tie it together!! I Attached a link to a video I made where I had a coil pack break. Still zip tied today. If you decide to zip tie it, use some "die electric" grease to put inside the harness connection first as an extra and added moisture barrier!! Good luck!! th-cam.com/video/G87j7s-fW2Y/w-d-xo.html
Oh geez I'm sorry to hear you're still having issues! In this video I only showed working in the 1 connector but towards the end i showed the 2nd connector that tends to have issues as well. If make sure both are clean and secured and even add a dab of "dielectric grease" to each to keep moisture out and increase connection. If connector is finicky you can ziptie or even gorilla tape it together! If you're having trouble reaching the 1st connector there are tons of videos on how to remove the Ford emblem on the tailgate for better access..however the emblems tend to break which is why I showed this method. Lastly it is possible either the camera itself is bad or the radio/display unit. The Microsoft Sync Radio Units are notorious for dieing and having electrical issues after years of use. However before replacing just replacing parts...I'd spend the $50-$100 at a shop to get it diagnosed to make sure you're not replacing good parts and not solving the issue! Good luck!
Just went with removing the emblem, literally 3 minutes to get to camera, pulled connection, sprayed connector done in another 3 minutes. Just go slow on removing Logo, i used a pocket knife and had no problem. Good luck.
Hey thanks for watching! As mentioned in the video and the comments, that's 1 option, issue is as any ford tech would tell you, the emblems break all..the..TIME! Lol this gives you the ability to access the camera and not worry about possbly needing to replace the emblem or damage your paint too! Tons of videos on emblem removals (and their breaking) for camera access, none about this alternate method! Happy Wrenching!
