It should be brown wool. Traditional Catholics always wear it around our necks. Scapular comes from scapula, meaning one of collar bone. If your not enrolled you should should have it blessed before wearing it.

TheFatimaCentre: Interesting. I had my 2nd one blessed. That is partially habit though. I always try to get any sacramentals blessed. It just seemed obvious to have a new scapular blessed. Now I'm wishing I had taken up the priest's offer to re-enroll me as I had stopped wearing it for a LONG time and my devotions suffered too.

I work a job where I am not allowed any jewelry/necklaces at all. I tie it to an undergarment during work hours. I am confident that this is an acceptable practice.

The scapular is a miniaturized part of the religious habit, named after the shoulder bones (called scapulae). In order to have the benefit of the promises attached to wearing the scapular, we must wear it as the religious do, as it is intended to be worn -- over the shoulders, hanging in front and in back. If a concern exists (for athletes, invalids, etc) that wearing anything around the neck could pose a choking hazard, the scapular can be worn over only one shoulder and taped to the person's clothing. If wearing the wool scapular beneath one's clothing, against the skin, causes a rash or itchiness, a person might want to consider purchasing a scapular having the woolen parts encased in plastic sheaths, or sewing a cotton covering over those woolen parts.
When I was younger I wore a scapular. I do landscaping, so we sweat tremendously, often. I got a rash from the medallion, my skin actually turned green where the medallion touched my skin. Nothing against Our lady at all, but does she have a Plan B?

Yes, you must ask a priest to enroll you. Any Catholic priest can perform this ceremony, which is found on page 29 in our booklet "Our Lady’s Garment" (www.fatima.org/apostolate/pdf/brown_scapular.pdf)
The enrollment only needs to be done once. As scapulars wear out and are replaced, it is not even necessary to have the new ones blessed. God bless you.

+Miranda Mcwhorter ZENIT News Agency published an article about this question a few years ago (archived here www.zenit.org/en/articles/wearing-the-rosary-as-a-necklace) advising Catholics that "while a Catholic may wear a rosary around the neck for a good purpose, he or she should consider if the practice will be positively understood in the cultural context in which the person moves. If any misunderstanding is likely, then it would be better to avoid the practice." It seems that even in this case, if a person were to wear a Rosary beneath the shirt or blouse, there could be no objection whatsoever.

I work a job where I am not allowed any jewelry/necklaces at all. I tie it to an undergarment during work hours. I am confident that this is an acceptable practice.

Please get the brown scapular and get a priest to consecrate you in the traditional Latin ceremony and wear your scapular all the time. Wear your rosary beads too and always sign holy water on your forehead in sign of the cross before bed and upon waking.
In an actual demonic attack always call upon the holy name JESUS, also imagine white light, white light will scald demons and they are terrified of it. The scapular is a miniaturized part of the religious habit, named after the shoulder bones (called scapulae). In order to have the benefit of the promises attached to wearing the scapular, we must wear it as the religious do, as it is intended to be worn -- over the shoulders, hanging in front and in back. If a concern exists (for athletes, invalids, etc) that wearing anything around the neck could pose a choking hazard, the scapular can be worn over only one shoulder and taped to the person's clothing. If wearing the wool scapular beneath one's clothing, against the skin, causes a rash or itchiness, a person might want to consider purchasing a scapular having the woolen parts encased in plastic sheaths, or sewing a cotton covering over those woolen parts.

The priest who gave me this scapular told me not to take it off :( but a while back when i woke up its beside my bed and not in my neck not im so confuse cause out of scared something might happen i forced the hole to it to my head and it didnt fit so it snaped im so confuse not how did it came off while i was sleeping if doesnt even fit my head i need answers im so in trouble
