My fellow Catholics earlier today I was diagnosed with cancer of the colon and kidneys, a hernia and tests later indicated that my lungs have scores of potentially cancerous growths not to mention my bad left leg; in short I need your prayers in a very big way. Please pray that I’m cured but through it all my GOD’S Most holy will be accomplished in me and that I may accept GOD’S verdict.

My Scapular has been so dear to me, that whenever it has been lost accidentally (floating on water due to swimming or accidentally broken) i always trust in God through our lady that it will always return for it completely saddens me. Lo and behold, each time i lose it, a few months later i always find it back, either completely intact or repaired. Blessed be our Lady and Glory be to the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Descalzo means without shoes (barefoot). Calzado means shoes/zapatos or wearing them. To this date, members of Franiscan orders wear sandals, I think those would be the descalzos because I don't think the monks/nuns go completely barefoot.

I receive the brown scapular periodically from the capuchin Franciscans, with St Anthony. Also, Sr Mary Peter gave me several green Scapulars with the miraculous medal. I wear the brown until they break. And I seem to get another.

My mom used to make my dad wear one when they were first married and one day he was driving a fuel truck in Central Oregon and there was a flash flood that
Nearly swept him away had he not had a solid grip on the outside door handle... this was probably early 1950’s. He was stripped of all his clothing with the exception of the brown Scapular that had been pulled down to his waist! He survived my mother believed Mary saved his life from drowning.

In 1845 the English ship “King of the Ocean” was on its way to Australia. When the ship reached the Cape of Good Hope off the coast of South Africa, it encountered a deadly storm. It didn’t look like they would survive.
When many on the ship lost all hope, a young Irishman from the county of Louth named John McAuliffe stepped forward onto the deck and unbuttoned his shirt. He took the Brown Scapular that was around his neck and held it out towards the sea, making the sign of the cross with it. McAuliffe then threw the scapular into the raging waters.
Immediately the winds stopped and the waves calmed down, except for one final wave that tossed the scapular back on deck, bringing it before McAuliffe’s feet.
The other passengers were stunned, especially a Protestant minister who was on board. He learned from McAuliffe the history and meaning of the Brown Scapular and when the ship arrived in Sydney, he and his family went to St. Mary’s Chapel (now St. Mary’s Cathedral) and were all received into the Catholic Church by Bishop Polding, the Archbishop of Sydney.
McAuliffe possessed that “mustard seed” type of faith and trusted in God’s ability to calm the waves. God responded generously to that display of faith and interceded to save the ship.
As Jesus said, with that type of faith, “nothing will be impossible to you.”

I have been wearing a scapular for well over twenty years. It is a sign of my sign of my faith. I've insisted on wearing it through a number of surgeries even if it had to be wrapped around my leg. No matter what I wear, the scapular stays and many times the brown ribbon is visible. I'm sure other people find that unattractive, but I don't care. If the scapular comes out, I give Mary and baby Jesus a kiss before I tuck them back in.

When my 96 yr old grandmother was on her last days, she would have bouts of irrational behavior and would yank on her clothing and Carmelite Scapular. Even though I didn’t understand the importance of it at the time, I knew it was important to her to keep it on. So I took her scapular and pinned the strands tightly in between the images. Every day, my mother would then pin the scapular onto my grandmother’s blouse. I was comforted to see her scapular pinned near to her heart the day she passed away.
May she and all the faithfully departed, Rest In Peace. Amen. ♥️

Once my original scapular fell apart, I never wore it. Then in 1998, I went to visit an old friend of my mother, who's son had just died. As we talked I noticed the brown string of the scapular and we began to talk about it. It revived my enthusiasm for wearing it. She had an extra one and gave it to me. I've been wearing it ever since. It has protected me SO MANY TIMES. In 2018. I felt shortness of breath. I was 73. So as to not take any chances, I went to the hospital. After 3 days of trying to figure out what was wrong, they found it. Both my lungs, front and back, were covered with BLOOD CLOTS. Just one is enough to scare you to death, but my lungs were covered. The Cardiologist was almost pale in color when he told me. He said he had never seen such a case. yet, I stopped the shortness of breath, I had no fever, no pain, and I was cheerful. I was placed under 17 medications to help control the clots then it was tapered to 4 that I would have to take for an additional 6 , months. Thank goodness for my insurance otherwise I would not have been able to afford the medication. Now I KNOW it was my Scapular that saved me. Get it, wear it and protect yourself.

I took the scapular about a month ago, maybe a little more. I wear my hair as you see in the picture. It kept getting tangled in the scapular string, pulling it out of my neckline and I was actually at a formal Deaconate ordination and it broke and fell off, but I caught it. I said "this isn't going to work." I dress modestly, but I can't only wear turtlenecks. So when I got home, I tied it in a way that they overlap a little and I made a large knot. I now pin the scapulars to my undergarments or my pajamas. What can I do? It was a tangled mess before.
BTW, I LIVE on Mt. Carmel! The chapel is now Stella Maris Monastery. It is beautiful but a little difficult for me to get to by bus. I go to the Carmelite Church which is the main Latin church in Haifa. The Discalced are the shoeless ones. They wear sandals.

Thank you for this. I had so many questions and you guys answered all of them here. It would awesome if you guys talked more about other scapulars in the future. Especially about the green scapular. I can't find much about it online. Do I also need a priest to bless me with the green one? My mom gave me one when I was about 14 or 15 years old after having terrible nightmares since I could walk. Terrible nightmares that would continue on even after I was awake. I would sleep walk a lot too and it was just terrible. I'd get them 5 times a week and sometimes 7 times a week for all those years. Anyways she gave me the green scapular and I immediately put it on. I said the prayer that night and didn't have a nightmare. Every night I said the prayer and never had another nightmare again. Only a couple times after a few years did I have one again but it was because I had stopped saying the prayer and had lost my scapular. What is amazing too is that when I lost my scapular I found one in the womens bathroom of a burger king a few days later. I had never seen one before anywhere else and not many people knew about the green one back then. I was so thankful that GOD would gift me another one after I had lost mine. Miracle after miracle that I have been blessed with the green scapular and would love to know more about it and also would love for more people to know about it too. GOD bless you all.

ST. POPE JOHN PAUL II: “Pastors must ensure that the practices do not degenerate into false piety, superstition or magic. The best remedy against ever possible deviations is to permeate these manifestations of popular piety with the word of the Gospel. Devotions to the saints, expressed in feast days, images, processions and so many other forms of piety, should not be reduced to merely seeking protection of material goods or bodily health. The saints must first of all be presented to the faithful as models of how to live and as imitators of Christ.”

My wife was in a terrible accident where the whole right side of her car was smashed in terribly but she wasn't hurt at all, incredibly. My scapular was hanging on the rearview mirror and she was wearing my Fatima medal. The policemen and the paramedics couldn't believe that she didn't have a scratch or bruise.

God doesn't condone sin but He understands our nature and mistakes. I think the brown scapular gives graces to those striving to live the Christian life and I think the scapular can help that a person has the grace of final confession before dying or at least the opportunity of it. Of course a person can opt out of this. For example, someone is in a bad accident and they are dying. A priest comes and offers to hear final confession and administer Extreme Unction. The person says no, I don't really believe in confession anyway and I have the brown scapular - this will save me. No, perhaps the brown scapular allowed you to live so you COULD receive final penance and Extreme Unction properly but. you refused it. At the same time one cannot tempt God where they do extremely dumb things like play Russian Roulette, God's Laws stay in place, the brown scapular does not override that - it is a help WHEN USED PROPERLY.

What should I do when the priest doesnt say a prayer but instead just do a quickie prayer and sign of the cross to not take a long time. Like priests dont even do the blessing correctly so does that affect the graces or Mama Mary can look pass that human flaw.

Anyone who says being a Christian brings them peace is a liar. You live in a constant state of anxiety, thinking your every thought and action is watched and judged by a being who could toss you into the pits of hell at any moment.

one of my favorite jokes; “A man climbs to the tallest mountain, and finds himself standing before God. The man asks, Lord, in heaven, how much is a million dollars? God answers, my son, in Heaven, a million Dollars is not but a penny. The man then asks, Lord, in heaven, how long is a million years? God then answers, My son, in Heaven, a million years, It’s not but a second. The man then asks, Lord, may I have a penny? The Lord then answers, sure, in a second.”

Thanks Berg. It has real life implications as well, I was on a business trip one time and a mother of seven decided to give an older son the window seat and yank her younger daughter from the window seat and place her next to me at which point she started crying. I quickly took out my iPad and had her playing bejeweled, and she stopped crying immediately. For 2 1/2 to 3 years old, she caught on relatively quickly. Then when her older brother who got the window seat asked me: “can I play?“ I told him: “sure as soon as you give your sister the window seat…”

I have been wearing it for years. When I made my First Communion back in the 1950's, part of the prays that the priest said was to confirm us in the Society of the Brown Scapular. Sadly we do not do that in the Catholic Church any longer. Also only a Priest can confirm you, or that was the way it was before Vat.II
