In 1845 the English ship “King of the Ocean” was on its way to Australia. When the ship reached the Cape of Good Hope off the coast of South Africa, it encountered a deadly storm. It didn’t look like they would survive. When many on the ship lost all hope, a young Irishman from the county of Louth named John McAuliffe stepped forward onto the deck and unbuttoned his shirt. He took the Brown Scapular that was around his neck and held it out towards the sea, making the sign of the cross with it. McAuliffe then threw the scapular into the raging waters. Immediately the winds stopped and the waves calmed down, except for one final wave that tossed the scapular back on deck, bringing it before McAuliffe’s feet. The other passengers were stunned, especially a Protestant minister who was on board. He learned from McAuliffe the history and meaning of the Brown Scapular and when the ship arrived in Sydney, he and his family went to St. Mary’s Chapel (now St. Mary’s Cathedral) and were all received into the Catholic Church by Bishop Polding, the Archbishop of Sydney. McAuliffe possessed that “mustard seed” type of faith and trusted in God’s ability to calm the waves. God responded generously to that display of faith and interceded to save the ship. As Jesus said, with that type of faith, “nothing will be impossible to you.”

Once my original scapular fell apart, I never wore it. Then in 1998, I went to visit an old friend of my mother, who's son had just died. As we talked I noticed the brown string of the scapular and we began to talk about it. It revived my enthusiasm for wearing it. She had an extra one and gave it to me. I've been wearing it ever since. It has protected me SO MANY TIMES. In 2018. I felt shortness of breath. I was 73. So as to not take any chances, I went to the hospital. After 3 days of trying to figure out what was wrong, they found it. Both my lungs, front and back, were covered with BLOOD CLOTS. Just one is enough to scare you to death, but my lungs were covered. The Cardiologist was almost pale in color when he told me. He said he had never seen such a case. yet, I stopped the shortness of breath, I had no fever, no pain, and I was cheerful. I was placed under 17 medications to help control the clots then it was tapered to 4 that I would have to take for an additional 6 , months. Thank goodness for my insurance otherwise I would not have been able to afford the medication. Now I KNOW it was my Scapular that saved me. Get it, wear it and protect yourself.
Amen My wife is from the Philippines . I'm American we live in America . I'm thinking about coming back to the Catholic Church I made a mistake going to another church so I'm gonna have to do confession And go to mask more.
At 13:30 Ryan brings up a great point. The priest on base explained it this way: anyone wearing the scapula in proper form is also probably trying to live as Christ-like as possible and therefore is working with God on the road to salvation.
I have been wearing a scapular for well over twenty years. It is a sign of my sign of my faith. I've insisted on wearing it through a number of surgeries even if it had to be wrapped around my leg. No matter what I wear, the scapular stays and many times the brown ribbon is visible. I'm sure other people find that unattractive, but I don't care. If the scapular comes out, I give Mary and baby Jesus a kiss before I tuck them back in.
I received a scapular when I received Holy Communion. Thank for educating me. I know I wore it the day it was placed over me and it is in my Communion pocketbook with my white Rosary Beads and Prayers Book.
Great that you were enrolled when you received your First Holy Communion, but you should be wearing it on your person, not kept in your pocket book. Pray you don't think it is a judgement.

How happy to listen to you. I am a wearer of the brown scapular. How you talk 👄 about it is so 🤔 heart rending so holily funny. But how you love to talk about Mother Mary with love. Hurrah to you boys 👦. I am am 85 yrs old from the Philippines.
My son of 27years old was fatally stabbed. He waa wearing his Scapular. He used to have it since his elementary years. Two hours after the incident, he expired.. two hours which I do believe was the precious time Mama Mary comforted his soul... that was five years 8months and 22days ago.🙏🙏🙏.
I took the scapular about a month ago, maybe a little more. I wear my hair as you see in the picture. It kept getting tangled in the scapular string, pulling it out of my neckline and I was actually at a formal Deaconate ordination and it broke and fell off, but I caught it. I said "this isn't going to work." I dress modestly, but I can't only wear turtlenecks. So when I got home, I tied it in a way that they overlap a little and I made a large knot. I now pin the scapulars to my undergarments or my pajamas. What can I do? It was a tangled mess before. BTW, I LIVE on Mt. Carmel! The chapel is now Stella Maris Monastery. It is beautiful but a little difficult for me to get to by bus. I go to the Carmelite Church which is the main Latin church in Haifa. The Discalced are the shoeless ones. They wear sandals.
Love my Brown Scapular. We made sure my stepmother’s father was properly invested in it by a priest weeks before he died. A longtime fallen-away Catholic, he underwent reversion, and was always excited for Mass and Extreme Unction towards the end.
I don’t remember any day of my 56 years of life that I never wore a scapular. My grandmother was a co-founder of the OCDS (Order of Secular Discalced Carmelites) in Angeles City, Philippines. She was the one who made me wear scapular. She died in 1987. I carry her brown Holy Rosary everywhere I go. I passed on the Scapular tradition to my 3 boys.
I wear a brown scapular, crucifix with embedded St. Benedict Medal, with Miraculous medal, St. Joseph, St. Michael. and Combat Holy Rosary from Catholic Gentleman
I'm so thankful I found you guys! My Aunt was a Chaplain and was an Ordained Carmelite Layperson. She was a woman filled with love and grace and she gave me my first Scapular. She worked at St. Joseph Hospital here in Phoenix. Is it wrong to pin my Scapular to my bra? I never go without my Scapular, but I was uncomfortable with it around my neck and floating under my clothes. I LOVE your sense of humor!!!
Greetings and blessings from Lebanon 🇱🇧. The Carmelite Order is strong in Lebanon and from a tender age we are made aware of the protection of the brown Scapular of course in conjunction with the Miraculous Medal of Our Lady. God bless you🙏🙏

I started wearing my brown scapular bc I'm a Marian but I just started to wear this year around April. I knew for years some about bc of my mother she is very devoted active catholic in her parish. I'm as well but less active I do go to a mass every Sunday and adoration Tuesdays or Thursdays and I go to confession I'm single 3 years I do live in grace. I pray my rosary daily and I noticed it had help me a lot to stay positive, and under grace, I'm doing a church annulment. I bought ten for my family members siblings and my 3 sons. I'm learning more and more how powerful it's and the story History Our Lady's apparition to St. Simon Stock. In the year 1251, in the town of Aylesford in England. I'm following as well the devotion of our blessed mother of Fatima every 1st Saturday of each month here at Miami sw area and go to confession, pray the rosary and meditate at least 15 minutes ask our blessed mother virgin Mary for protection and tnen go to mass and take the holy Eucharist as she asked us in Fatima devotion and she also promises to assist us at he time of our death. You guys are great Catholic may our Lord Father Yahweh almighty bless you 🙏 pray for my church annulment.
Steve, thank you for pronouncing it correctly: carMEL. Too many folks pronounce it like its a piece of candy. Wearing the Scapular is one of the smartest things I ever done.
We made ours in our Catholic grammar school, directed by our nun as it was called long ago. 53 years later I still wear mine as it was blessed during holy mass and we children were consecrated to Our Blessed Holy Mother of God.

Thank you for this. I had so many questions and you guys answered all of them here. It would awesome if you guys talked more about other scapulars in the future. Especially about the green scapular. I can't find much about it online. Do I also need a priest to bless me with the green one? My mom gave me one when I was about 14 or 15 years old after having terrible nightmares since I could walk. Terrible nightmares that would continue on even after I was awake. I would sleep walk a lot too and it was just terrible. I'd get them 5 times a week and sometimes 7 times a week for all those years. Anyways she gave me the green scapular and I immediately put it on. I said the prayer that night and didn't have a nightmare. Every night I said the prayer and never had another nightmare again. Only a couple times after a few years did I have one again but it was because I had stopped saying the prayer and had lost my scapular. What is amazing too is that when I lost my scapular I found one in the womens bathroom of a burger king a few days later. I had never seen one before anywhere else and not many people knew about the green one back then. I was so thankful that GOD would gift me another one after I had lost mine. Miracle after miracle that I have been blessed with the green scapular and would love to know more about it and also would love for more people to know about it too. GOD bless you all.
I consecrated myself last year to Our Blessed Mother and then shortly afterwards, my priest blessed me and invested me into the brown scapula which I cont to wear all the timein

My wife was in a terrible accident where the whole right side of her car was smashed in terribly but she wasn't hurt at all, incredibly. My scapular was hanging on the rearview mirror and she was wearing my Fatima medal. The policemen and the paramedics couldn't believe that she didn't have a scratch or bruise.

God Bless you all for this informative video. I began wearing it after my consecration to Mary years ago. At times the scapular will slip out of my shirt and become visible. Now I know a bit more about why it’s worn and, God willing, I can be a bit more descriptive about its history.
Agree on the thousands of devotions. Reverently ask God for direction, as it was He who gave us our personalities and draws us to Himself according to what He had in mind when He thought of your particular Image and Likeness.

I have a brown scapular, but the Picture is the image of Divine Mercy with "Jesus I trust in you"... I will go to a priest and bless those scapulars soon... I particularly like the Divine Mercy devotion because of the Promises of Divine Mercy Image of Jesus and it is simple Devotion...There is no need for Special investiture of Brown scapular of Mt. Carmel..
There is investiture if one wishes to enrolled with those who so love Our Lady of Mount Carmel and to align their intentions with the Carmelite Order. It was given as Mary's particular sign of comfort and love and protection in all things. With Her, our souls are safe when we strive to love as she does. Take a peak into the Carmelites. I bet you will so love them.
Those who covered their feet were 'calced.' A 'calceta' in Spanish is a boot or a shoe that covers all your foot. The 'discalced' is the more primitive rule which observes strict poverty such that they wear sandals at most, not regular shoes. The discalced Carmelites have many saints; whereas the mitigated rule has few. The great Teresa of Avila founded the discalced Carmelites. St. Theresa, the Little Flower was a Discalced Carmelite.

Discalced means without shoes. The Spanish word «descalzo» means bare feet.
Yes, Christopher. St. Teresa de Avila started the Discalced Carmelite order. She wanted to return the order to a more prayerful order, one of service.
Brown scapular is very helpful
Is not just to wear the scapulary but to know what is the significant and responsibilities it come with it.

Bonjoiur ! I am a catholique all my life and I received a few scapular's brown and yellow, red and black I was 18 years old and I remembered . I didn't remember the explication or didnt received it. Thank you for the explications . I gave all mine away and I think the churches doesnt promoted any more.
I am so sorry for his passing. Peace, and the grace of God be with you.
Sr.Felly Covacha enrolled me 2nd Feb 2021 together with my friend Dots. I feel so peaceful since then.
I just started to wear the brown Scapular so I cant wait for the show. I always listen anyway
Love my Brown Scapular. We made sure my stepmother’s father was properly invested in it by a priest weeks before he died. A longtime fallen-away Catholic, he underwent reversion, and was always excited for Mass and Extreme Unction towards the end.
wow my name was derived from Our Lady of Mount Carmel and this is good info and a reminder as well
I don’t remember any day of my 56 years of life that I never wore a scapular.

I started wearing my brown scapular bc I'm a Marian but I just started to wear this year around April. I knew for years some about bc of my mother she is very devoted active catholic in her parish. I pray my rosary daily and I noticed it had help me a lot to stay positive, and under grace, I'm doing a church annulment.

I am a Third Order Lay Carmelite and I wear my scapular always, but I had been enrolled by a priest before I became a Carmelite. My Scapular is a protection against Satan, who hates the Scapular, Holy Water, the Miraculas Medal, and the Rosary. I am also a member of the Legion of Mary and I have consecration myself to Our Lady. The Scapular is a constant reminder that I belong to Our Lord Jesus Christ and my promise to become holy; to be holy! God bless all of you. 🙏🙏
Hey! I have one and when I got it blessed the father said it should be a reminder to lead a holy life and not only rely on it which I know.
Why do catholics need all these reminders?
@@bobdobbs943, because we like all the world desire to live and die in God's Grace. The reminders are there to pull us from our sinful actions and back to God, Who is, always waiting for us to turn back to Him.

You may burn or bury the old and torn ones. Save it to bless the next one by touching them.

Agree on the thousands of devotions. Reverently ask God for direction, as it was He who gave us our personalities and draws us to Himself according to what He had in mind when He thought of your particular Image and Likeness.
it really depends on one's intentions & devotion - how one should wear the scapular - God sees the heart

Calz: with shoes Discalz: without shoes
Those who covered their feet were 'calced.' A 'calceta' in Spanish is a boot or a shoe that covers all your foot. The 'discalced' is the more primitive rule which observes strict poverty such that they wear sandals at most, not regular shoes. The discalced Carmelites have many saints; whereas the mitigated rule has few. The great Teresa of Avila founded the discalced Carmelites. St. Theresa, the Little Flower was a Discalced Carmelite.
Thank you for correcting the Calced and Discalced Carmelites! May God bless you.
