I'm a traditional Roman Catholic and I've been told that the brown scapular, to be valid, has to be 100% wool. When the Blessed Mother appeared to St. Simon Stock she gave him the brown scapular that was pure wool. She didn't give him a metal scapular or a brown scapular that was wool and felt mix, she gave him a 100% wool scapular. Its not just the Carmelite order that wears the long brown scapulars over their habits, but other orders do as well. I can't see how a metal scapular can be valid?
I think it's made of wool because God knows it's itchy, and if you actually wear the Scapular you are constantly reminded of wearing it throughout the day!
I've heard before that if you wear a wool scapular and it finally wears out beyond repair that then you may be permitted to wear a metal scapular of the carmalite order. I've also heard of permissions given to missionaries working in tropical and jungle areas to replace a wool scapular with one of metal.
I have about four or five broken ones in a box awaiting burial someday because sacramentals must be properly disposed, which is why I am thinking of acquiring a metal one. Still I am wondering if it is possible to repair the broken wool scapulars? I came across this video because I am looking for answer, or how to, with regards to repairing the wool scapular.
Sacraments can be burned as well. That is what I do. Then I put the ashes in the rubbish bin but now I think perhaps I should scatter or bury them. Perhaps I am being scrupulous.
Hi. I have a stainless scapular coz' the cloth brown scapular is a bit makes the skin red vs. the stainless steel scapular. It's many times more expensive that the brown (synthetic cloth- usually polyester I believe). God bless. Proverbs 31
They usually give out the number on their show, so you can call. Check ur local Catholic radio stations, or they probably have their own website with the number.
