This video is from October 2, 2020.
I do not always feel the syncope (Fainting) coming on. Sometimes it's up to the people around me to see it and help me get safe too.

    Update Years Later.
No, I am no longer with my ex husband. Yes, he beat me daily. Strangling me unconscious, holding me upside down out of windows saying he was going to drop me and kill me, beating me any time I tried to leave and more.
Years later, I'm remarried to one of my close childhood friends I've known for over 10 years. We've been married almost a year now. And we are currently expecting baby #2 (our first together). Liam, my son in the video, is so excited to be a big brother. I have a loving husband who helps me daily with my medical. He helps me set up my IV bags for my infusions 6 days a week. He helps me when my blood pressure is bottomed out and I'm tachycardic.
I have Dysautonomia which is Autonomic Nervous System Dysfunction. My brain sends the wrong signals to my body. So my blood pressure bottoms out, my heart can go up to 180bpm from standing and walking around. That's what causes the fainting. And there's a video somewhere on my channel of me being diagnosed. I have PTSD as well. (Obviously).
I currently have Max. He's getting ready to retire. And I have a new puppy that is training to take his place.
So I hope everyone can take some time to check out my more recent videos. And where I am at now in my life.
Thank you all for the support. I love you guys! And over the years, I have learned how to cope better with my anxiety in public and how I react. So please don't hold this against me.
But I am in a way better place now than before..❤️

A couple of years ago I tried to pet a service dog and the owner asked very politely not to because the dog is working. Now I know not to engage any service animal (I still look at them and smile to myself because they're cute). I'm grateful that I was educated in that gentle way because I truly didn't know, and I believe most people don't know either until they are educated about it.
I just wanted to give you some feedback and raise your awareness that there is a better way to interact with people and if possible you could strive for that better way. I believe you could spare both yourself and others the emotional stress that comes with unreasonably harsh reactions. If you want to be understood, first understand others.

my school has a couple therapy dogs, one of them the theatre/english teacher's. i get that its very different, therapy dogs and service dogs, though they both are "professionals" in a way. the dogs come in on certain days, theyre so sweet, and youre allowed to pet them as long as theres not class or something. its really helpful to have therapy dogs in school! there are a lot of kids with anxiety, disorders, some kids on the autism spectrum, and the therapy dogs are great. teachers can even request to have them present in their room for a class if there are some kids who need that.

I think what puts me off the most is the accusatory language and tone.
A toddler will never ignore your animal... Like that's just never going to happen, and they were walking on by and you use phrases like "the distraction they're TRYING to cause... " No one is TRYING to hurt you or put you in danger, nobody knows the nuances of service animals unless you have one, I believes most people would understand if you explained it BEFORE you jump down peoples throats and putting everyone on blast later on youtube EVEN WHEN THEY RESPECTFULLY APOLOGIZE AND MOVE ON.
You act as if everyone's doing it out of nothing but pure spite for you and that's a really unfortunate way of going about your life.

The service dog shouldnt behave like that and I hope the owner corrected/redirected his dog afterwards. I understand it may seem cute but service dogs arent therapy dogs. They help 1 individual in need. I had a similar situation where a service dog kept sniffing my legs (prob bc of my dogs smell) and I got triggered by it..

I don't think she was overreacting as people are saying. She felt she was going to pass out and Max needed to be alert to signal her to lay down or she could of hit her head on the metal bench or something could of happened to harm her. People also need to learn to leave service dogs alone unless they approach the owner and ask. It doesn't matter if its a child or an adult they must learn at some point and her safety was at hand here so it's good she confronted the mom.

Joe Conley She did not yell plus she’s right the kid should not have done that the kid basically distracted her dog and her dog wouldn’t know what to do when she passed out the polite thing to do is to see a cute service dog ignore it and talk about it privately with your guardian or babysitter

Coincidentally I just had a woman visit my brownie group (girl scouts In the uk) and she was completely deaf right her name was name Jane and her dog was called India right. And she was talking about her experiences and was saying that on the jacket there's a picture of a hand and one of the girls said if it was to say not to pet the dog (she's super good at lip reading ) right right and she was like nah (she also had speach therapy as a child) and said as long as you ask it's completely fine and its rare for her to say no (May be personal preference) but the fact was that this woman who visited lots of groups and made talks about this thing always let her dog off the lead to meet everyone and she says that she makes good friends through having the dog with her and it's just a massive contrast of meeting Jane and seeing this woman telling parents to tell their child not to look at an adorable dog in a place which is weird for them like what about a child who needs to take their service dog to school will none of the other children be allowed to look at the dog at all? I understand them distracting the dog but most people ask to touch a dog and you should be replying politely whether it's appropriate or not but you should not snapping at children to not even look at your dog like wtf

    • @sKullkittehs

Probably because in your situation the dog wasn't currently "working". The dog wasn't doing any assigned task so it was okay to pet the dog.
In THIS situation the dog was trying to do his work, and if he get a distracted then the woman wouldn't have gotten the help she needed from her dog.

Just gonna make up what I wish I was reading in these comments. Magic!
    1) “You’re overreacting” ➡️ I’m sorry you feel pain and/or anxiety - I can’t imagine what you feel. You’re brave to keep doing what you can to live your everyday life on your terms. I’m glad you have resources and a loving husband and service dog to keep you going. Thank you for sharing with and teaching us about just this small part of your life so we can be more considerate of the ways we can be sweet and helpful like that Walmart employee and your husband. We might be the lone voice of reason among others who are freaking out.
    2) “They’re just kids” ➡️ You probably have to repeat yourself a lot but it’s good that you asked the parents to keep moving and teach their kids how service animals are different from regular pets when we see them in public.
    3) “You should stay home” ➡️ Good for you. Do the best you can with what you got! If you can walk, walk. If you can roll, roll. If you can laugh, laugh. If you can wait patiently, eat raspberries!! The best thing in caring for others in caring well for yourself, too.
“I feel sorry for the dog” ➡️ What a beautiful, helpful dog. Dogs have been helpers longer than any one of us has been alive. We have service animals because we noticed that DOGS started to alert US to neurological and other symptoms of oncoming flares, seizures, or fainting. This dog is clearly loved and well-cared-for. Blessings.

Alexis Williams For those of you defending this lady’s behavior, here’s something to think about.
In this specific case, the conflict/issue arose from a mother and her toddler *looking* at the service animal. Note however, not from an action of petting, calling, or distracting the animal under question.
That active observation of the dog is what leads the owner of the service animal to “educate” the lady and her child, and imply that they are to move on.
In this SPECIFIC case and situation, the owner of the service animal is in the wrong.
At the time of the owners intervention, the lady and her child were not violating any established laws surrounding service animals and treatment of them. If they had attempted to call the animal towards them, feed it, or intentionally distract it in any significant manner, they would have legally been in the wrong. However, they had not done anything of the sort, and therefore did not warrant a reprimand nor correction.
It is also worth noting, the very presence of the service animal counters its owners own concerns. A service animal in a public area will be looked at. Whether through glances, stares, peeks, or etc, it will happen. It would be impossible to force everyone and anyone around the animal not to even so much as look at the animal. This is a reason why service animals undergo training, and if the animal can be distracted from its duty by the momentary observation from a couple individuals, it should not be actively servicing an individual with a serious health issue. The very fact that it is servicing such an individual, shows that the distributers and trainers of the animal felt it was qualified to sufficiently carry out its training. This would thus make any concerns of the animal becoming distracted through slight observation naught but paranoia.
The owner was clearly in physical distress, and she likely became frustrated and vented her emotions, nothing more. A wrong thing to do, especially under the guise of “education”, but understandable.
And please remember, I am not arguing against the principles behind distracting a service dog, but rather her actions in this one incident.

    • @alexiswilliamsinc
      @alexiswilliamsinc 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

James C: I agree mostly with what you're saying. It's important to try to be understanding if you have a service animal - especially a super cute one.
I also understand that "this lady's behavior" is the result of a situation that I don't experience. There is nothing wrong with emotions; they are the fuel for our thoughts and behaviors. If you don't have them and if you aren't influenced by them, congratulations, you must be Vulcan and you have my respect. If someone lashes out at me, however, as some of the other commenters on this post have, I might feel hurt but I can also try to understand why and make decisions based on what I believe to be most important. If someone is in pain, whether it's made up or due to weak-mindedness, as Gary Miller has stated, I can do what I can to be gentle just like I'd want someone to be with me if they couldn't understand what I'm going through.
So if this woman got impatient after the many moments of frustration she experienced that day, the point I disagree with you on is that I think it's ok to vent, to show your frustration, and to say something. Others can choose their own reactions to that. On my better days, I hope I'll try to be more understanding if it's ever me distracting a service dog that is cleared to serve but also still getting the hang of things.

Maybe you should try to politely teach people rather than just snapping at them? I swear, in all of these videos, it's your dog that creates more anxiety for you than anything else. If you left your dog at home, no one would even second glance you. Your dog probably gets more distracted by your ranting that he does by random people glancing at him. And before anyone snaps at me, I have severe anxiety and frequently pass out. I just don't need a dog to tell me when it's about to happen. Fainting really isn't like it's shown to be in the movies. It'll even mess with your vision and hearing before your legs give out and you're out cold. Your body should be giving you sufficient warning...

It's not illegal to pet, talk, or look at a service dog. That came straight from a District Attorneys mouth when I posed that question to him. However, if you distract the service dog from doing it's job to the point where the owner has harm come to them because of the distraction then you can be held civilly liable and subjected to pay damages to the owner if found negligent by a judge in civil court. There is a difference between a civil and criminal act. Talking to, acknowledging, looking at or petting a service dog is not a criminal act. However people should respect the right of the owner and the duties of the animal. Service dogs are a part of what makes this world a better place for people with disabilities and they should be treated as such. There is legislation being pushed forward on the federal level to have service dogs certified and licensed. In addition future guidelines and laws will outline the training for these anamils which will include what certifications individuals and facilities must have before they are allowed to train service animals. I hope this is helpful.

While I know not to distract a service animal, he doesn't see them often enough to understand the difference between a dog like max, and our neighbor's sweet old golden who always wants to say hello. I'd love to teach him to know better, but I hope I don't come across someone like this.

I had no idea you aren't supposed to interact with them & to be honest, we usually approach people with service dogs & ask if we can pet them (we've never been told no & ive never seen a sign that says not to). More often than not we don't have to ask. My kids get scared & the person with the dog will say "oh, he/she is very friendly, come say hi". My son was bit as a toddler & my kids were TERRIFIED of dogs, so service dogs are the perfect animals to break the ice with because they're so well trained.

That dog is super sweet, and the way you deal with these situations is amazing. Thank you for sharing this, I wouldn't have known that it's not good to try to pet or distract a service dog. This is teaching people on how to behave when they see something like this. That's great!

Oh my god I don't understand why people don't get some extra information before commenting and think the dog won't ever get distracted, for God's sake, it's like a soldier, it has feelings and it's a *dog* it will get distracted even if it's a service dog, that's why you can't just go over and talk or look at them

Starr Rosseter No she isn’t retarded there’s a difference between passing out and laying down. Laying down: You purposely move your body in a normal way to lay in a certain position on the floor(which she did in this case) And 2 passing out is completely different she would’ve fallen back and hurt herself in the first place but in this case it was mainly a combination of laying down.

I don’t like how you said “encourage” like a friend would encouraged someone to do drugs, they’re kids, and she appeared to be an older lady, and the only says not to pet, and like they know that you have that as a medical condition, they could’ve thought you were blind or deaf or something like that, and you got super snotty right away. And it’s Walmart of all places. And you have you’re own kid, I’m pretty sure you’re kid didn’t act like a perfect angel right away.

Think about it this happens over and over again and basically snowballs over and over so yeah she might get a little snappy when this happens but parents need to educate their kids to not distract service animals or to walk to the owner instead to ask questions therefore the dog is still focused on their owner.

I was a massage instructor for 6 years and had 2 blind and a couple of disabled students who had service dogs. Our college made a point to educate the students on not interracting with the dogs when they were working. We had kennels in the classrooms of the dogs so that they could rest during class time.
We made it a point on graduation night to give the dogs (wearing their own cap) a certificate and acknowledge them as well as the students.
I love your videos. They teach me. I have health issues that are making me realize that at some point, I may need a service animal. I learn so much from you. Thank you! 💜💜💜

4:35 If you’ve had the feeling that you’re going to faint for as long as an hour, you probably should’ve left a lot earlier. Even if you had important things to get, you have your husband there too who can also cover your shopping. It’s much easier to take personal responsibility by trusting your gut, and just sit in your car to cool down. What isn’t helpful is if you’re filming people who are simply uninformed about service dogs, and rant about how awful people they are, and faint in the store, when this whole ordeal could’ve easily been avoided.

I believe that depression is all caused by the brain, genetic vulnerability, stressful life events, medications, and medical problems. The brain is tricking you into something that isn't real and you have those things that causes anxiety. I understand that service dogs are helpful! I am thankful that we have those people who trains dogs and I think they will do good with people with ptsd and bad anxiety, along with depression issues.

Try explaining that to a child who can't read yet and can barely talk. I have a hard enough time getting my toddler to obey the enormous blaring red sign that says "no shoes" on the indoor playground. You acknowledge the sign and explain to them what it means before they go to play... Not just expect them to understand so they can be yelled at for disobeying the sign later.

aecrouch 2016 Dude I'm pretty sure he was concern that is why he kept checking on her what you need to understand the reason he needs to be so calm is cuz he knows the dog is doing it's work now if the dog sets of the alarm that she needs help than that is when he has to take serious action maybe you never have had a family member with a service dog but you always have to keep calm I'm proud of the man for keeping his cool and watching after his kid like he should be doing

Okay, but like? You are in walmart and two kids looking are going to distract the dog but nothing else in walmart are? The dog didnt seem to care at all. Not arguing just trying to understand. I understand if they came up and started petting, or were a couple feet away jumping and pointing, but they were is a shopping cart out of the dogs central view.

Try to imagine yourself in her shoes. She has some medical issues (anxiety) and can faint for multiple minutes. The dog, Max, makes a certain gesture for when she is about to faint even though she can feel it, so she can lay down. The dog is critical for her life quite literally, if Max is distracted by a kid calling him he will not give quality treatment and his owner could die. Yes, she may be overreacting but, let me ask you again, how would you feel if people distracted your dog when you can have an anxiety attack or faint any moment? It would not help the anxiety at all.

But what im trying to say is they weren't distracting the dog. I understand the reasoning but the dog wasn't distracted.

    • @laniwdw
      @laniwdw 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

they weren’t just looking at the dog. the dog obviously got distracted and at any moment she couldn’t passed out. when you see a service dog you are supposed to IGNORE it. Act like it’s not there or else it’s against the law. try to imagine you could pass out any minute and the only thing that protects you is distracted. are you gonna sit there and not say anything to prevent it in the future?

Misaka 10032 it’s actually only against the law of you are actually take it away from work . Saying hi to a dog really isn’t distracting it . He was doing perfectly fine

I know where you are getting at with how people react and go to the animals. But you need to learn to be respectful when telling an adult or parent to not distract your animal. They do not know better. Not everyone is going to know a service dog from a normal dog at a store. Not everyone has that knowledge. I've worked with both types of animals and to a normal human being. A dog. Will be a dog.
Edit:people seriously. It's my option. stop being dramatic
    Edit again: people. Seriously stop.

TofuTeo that's basically what I was saying. In less words

    • @TofuTeo
      @TofuTeo 6 ปีที่แล้ว +50

Absolutely. Most people aren't "trying to distract" a service dog when approaching one. They're just being friendly. Social, you know, as human beings are. While she's completely right that it's illegal to distract a service dog, she needs to understand that the average person doesn't constantly scheme against disabled people with service dogs. They probably just think "Oh, lovely dog! Let me say hi to the owner!" I watched some other videos and she seems to have a tendency to criminalize well-meaning people who approach her and her dog. It must be really difficult to live with such a condition and I wish I understood the struggle better, but none of us should feel entitled to being treated a certain way. We can't control the actions of others and we can't fault people every opportunity we get - especially when we'll-meaning people might not necessarily understand the importance of a service dog's focus. Just wish she would be a bit kinder towards others, or at the very least, be more polite in telling people to stay away. Entitlement robs us of rest.

This is true and even if people know its a service dog I don't know of anyone who knows youre not supposed to comment on it and that doing so is illegal. Sounds like a very irrational law to me but eh The States has a lot of irrational laws.

I've had a few times during the summer when its too hot (In the southern US) for a vest where I've been asked if he is a service dog but I just answer politely and move on. When he has his vest it is never asked. Nothing to get worked up about. I'd say most people respect service dogs and don't give us trouble.

No, people just don't care about service dogs. I live by one of the largest bases and there are many vets with PTSD service dogs and I know one man and he has a border collie and he can count on 1 hand how many issues he has had with people, and he said they aren't even really "issues" just annoyances.

Okay first of you need to chill out! Some people don’t have the experience you do in this subject and don’t know the do’s and don’ts so rather then snapping at them just politely say he needs to stay focused. Second people can’t read your mind and don’t know when your gonna “PASS OUT” so just chill out. You might not have so much anxiety if you take a different approach and don’t feel like everyone is attacking you.

Your leg was OBVIOUSLY blocking her view of the harness thing and it most definitely wasn't that lady's fault. Everyone thinks dogs are cute and the way you treated her probably ruined her day. Not everyone knows how service dogs work so stop acting like this towards everyone who even looks at your dog.
