    To the people complaining that HER dog isn't trained well enough in the first place if it can't handle being barked at:
    Mya is still training. And she needs to be in public spaces in order to do so. It's like you're doing an exam, you're doing great, and someone just starts screaming in the middle of class about how giraffes aren't real and birds are government spies: it makes no sense in the given situation, its uncomfy, and (even just a lil bit) d i s t r a c t i n g.
    And sure, maybe she could've been a tad more subtle about approaching the issue BUT I'D BE PISSED TOO! Imagine having to deal with that almost every time you go out somewhere. It'd suck! SO MUCH.
    Also consider how the owner of the SD feels too. I don't have a service dog (though I qualify), and I love animals - especially dogs, but the few times I've seen aggressive dogs in public places (specifically where they shouldn't be, like no-pet areas) have caused me to shut down, have panic attacks, etc. And I know people who have even more debilitating anxiety than I do, who in a situation like this could cause serious harm to themselves and others.
    Y'all gotta open your mind. This isn't just one single encounter. This happens all the time, in all parts of the world, and it can have some extreme results if not careful. And to add on to it - people who'd benefit from a SD shouldn't be denied because of the potential issues that come with another person's irresponsibility. But that happens all the time too. People have to deny getting medical equipment to help their disability because of some old man and his angry ass dog, because said angry ass dog being loud at a SD can harm the person's mental state.
    Just overall, it's better, AND SAFER, to not bring animals to no-pet spaces unless they are a professional working animal or AT LEAST training.
    I know this is kinda long winded and probably doesn't make sense but stuff like this stresses even me out, and I wish people were more considerate of people who do have SDs if not just illnesses alone. There's been plenty of times where I've been made fun of, ignored, etc. in a situation where I have a panic attack, which makes it worse, which means I'll likely need medical help due to injury. And I'm sick of people disrespecting other people for something they need/can't control. If you have an SD you need them for a serious reason. They aren't a free four-legged drinking buddy you take where you please because you feel like it.

    Your videos have given me so much more confidence going out with my service dog. He's PTSD reaction trained and we're training medical alert. Many places near me will just immediately say you can't have an animal in here and kick us out. These are places like grocery stores, the bank, coffee shop, all public access places. With the education you provide, I feel so much more confident going out and trying to see new places. Thank you so much for sharing you journey.

    i have a genuine question. first of all, i’m aware that pets in stores can be very harmful to the environment and are an inconvenience for service dog handlers. but what about the moment you step outside? aren’t SDs trained to ignore distractions? so while it’s obviously *wrong* to bring pets inside, why does the argument in these situations always relate to some sort of immense danger and “missing alerts” when the very same thing could happen in a public space where pets *are* allowed?
    again, not saying people should ever bring pets/fakes indoors when it’s illegal and wrong. just feeling a bit of a disconnect.

    • @FadeMouse
      @FadeMouse 3 ปีที่แล้ว +32

      Service Dogs can still get distracted. In another one of her videos, Mya missed a blood sugar alert because a dog was distracting her. Dogs aren't robots, so obviously they will mess up sometimes.

    • @thepixel666
      @thepixel666 3 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      @@FadeMouse that’s a good point. i know that dogs can get distracted and it doesn’t make them any less valid of a service animal, but my point is that distractions happen all the time in outdoor places where pets are allowed. and in those situations, handlers aren’t allowed to start confrontations about people bringing their barky pets in public. so while i understand the concept of protecting one’s rights and enforcing the rules of an establishment, i’m confused as to why some handlers make it their main argument that their lives are in imminent danger because of an annoying pet indoors when the point of having the service animal is to assist in those situations. i will always be on the side of the handler in a situation like this but i feel like this subtopic is never touched on and people with disabilities can still be dramatic and/or petty.

      @@thepixel666 I don't own a service animal, nor do I know a lot. But, service dogs don't always get distracted, as you can see in some of Dom's videos. I don't know all of the laws, so I can't be the one to talk very much about it. :)

      @thepixel666 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@FadeMouse yeah i agree, a lot of handlers are pushed to leave places because of bad distractions and that’s really unfair and frustrating for them. that’s why i’m glad there are rules in place to keep pets out of certain areas because i know it makes things a lot easier for the handler. i have a family member with a SDIT and i would hate for her to constantly have to deal with inconveniences that are perfectly avoidable. anyhow, thanks for the conversation and good points! i think we’re on the same page, i just wanted to spark some discussion on a detail i happen to notice a lot in these types of videos lol

      I think that people who do have service animals tend to stay away from pet friendly places unless the animal is “off duty” (a service animal is never off duty but I mean when they are allowed to act like any other animal), if they are in their beginning stages of training and want to train at a pet friendly place before going into non-pet friendly places, they are socializing their new pup, or distraction training but other than that they try to stay away from places that are going to have an abundance of animals.

      My SDIT is used to going into Walmart and not being approached. It is probably the one place where I normally NEVER have to remind him to practice good manners. He never greets anyone and can squeeze passed all the blocked areas like a pro! This time, someone brought their ESA into the store, untethered and it ran up to us (not aggressively, just ran straight towards me), my SDIT became uneasy, got protective and hackles went up and he barked at this untethered dog. I could tell the dog was NOT aggressive, however, the behaviour was EXTREMELY inappropriate AND my SDIT was immediately corrected for HIS reaction to what he obviously perceived as a threat. I have the expectation that he handle these types of situations in a certain manner and it gave me pause and opportunity to train, but seriously! Walmart isn't a damned dog park! Train your f'ing dog for appropriate public access or leave them at home!!!! I look at every frustrating situation as an opportunity to help my SDIT learn appropriate reactions but I am just as frustrated as the next person when my dog has to be corrected all because someone else is an irresponsible pet owner.

    I actually have an emotional support dog, and have been scammed by those self registration service dog websites. Because I have a generalized anxiety disorder, and he helps me stay calm. My dog is well trained, and tends to ignore other dogs sometimes. Also has no reactivity issues bones in his body. We go to many places mainly places that are dog friendly, even a vegan cafe where the owners let us come in every time and treat us kindly. My dog does so good. He's older now almost 14 so gets more anxious, he does whine into a bark. I calm him down. So he'd make a great service dog, I tried sometimes and did research what I need to do. I heard they don't need certifications, licenses or anything you can certify them yourself by a lady with service dog 24/7 from every walk to the dog park or the common walking areas where dogs go. She did let dogs approach her dog but never people. She was kind of fussy with her dog. I felt sorry for her dog too, like no breaks from working and work on socializing?

      Working service dogs dont get 'breaks' in the sense like what we get. They have 'down time' at home though, but are always alert to their handler. Service DOgs cnat be elderly, so your 14 yr old pup could never be a service dog. The dog cant have medical issues or disabilities. Service Animals are required to be in good health so they can task properly. No handler would allow a dog to approach their service dog.

    Hi, I have a question. I was at Walmart with my grandmother, I had encountered a fake service dog. I’m not sure if it was fake but it was sniffing everything. Not looking at the handler and it was a small chihuahua and it had one of those Amazon or "Common" service dog vests that most people use, Not the custom ones. And I was making faces at her, because if there’s was a legitimate service animal, either if it was me, ( I’m trying to figure out how to get a service dog ) Or someone else, It can risk the handlers disability like seizures or any other disability. I’m no service animal handler, But I know la all the information, I told my grandmother that the dog was a fake, She told me that she disagreed. She thinks it’s legitimate! So what should I do next time I encounter a fake service dog even though I’m not a handler? I only have a ESA but I’m not stupid like other people who bring their ESAs to public places.
    Edit: The chihuahua didn’t even bark at all, It was just sniffing around and not focusing on the handler.

Either option is highly possible and some handlers stick with the cheaper harnesses and vests because they can't afford one I know my little guy is only a year old and using an Amazon vest because I can't afford a custom one right now. I also use a stroller if the travel is long...having to walk miles or better...I cant use the sling or any other carrier for long distances because of serious back problems....he can't walk those distancees due to very small size and short legs...Again I HATE it when sd handlers state...if its in a stroller, its not a real sd...
      He alerts no matter how he travels and has saved my life many times...
      I think alot if self righteous sd handlers need to better educate themselves before the make such broad assumptions..
      Just saying

    • @ServiceDogPaws
      @ServiceDogPaws  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No. It sounds like you fell for the scam websites. They claim that ESA have public access. But under federal law & state law they do not.
      ESA don’t have paperwork. To legally have an ESA it has to be a note from your doctor. That reads something along the lines of “Megan requires an ESA”.
      That only gives you access into no pet housing.
      If you bring them in public you risk facing charges, jail time etc. that paperwork won’t hold up in a court of law.
      Since ESAs are not service animals, they are not granted the same access to public places such as restaurants, malls, and other stores. Your ESA will only be allowed to enter pet-friendly public places.
      Neither law covers ordinary pets or what some call "emotional support animals": animals that provide a sense of safety, companionship, and comfort to those with psychiatric or emotional disabilities or conditions. Although these animals often have therapeutic benefits, they are not individually trained to perform specific tasks for their handlers. Under the ADA and Georgia law, owners of public accommodations are not required to allow emotional support animals, only service animals.
      Quoted from link below. For Georgia state laws.

Its is a criminal misdemeano0r to bring a pet into a non pet friendly store. You risk jail time, fines and in some states they can take your pet away and euthanize them.

    (2) her dog is trained. Seriously look at any of her videos, her dog is trained 😂
    (3) when your life depends on an animal that can be distracted and have off days, you can speak on this issue. If you don’t, keep your opinion to yourself. It isn’t hard to educate yourselves on these things. Google, even as biased as it can be, can actually be a good thing at times. His dog barking like crazy could’ve put Dom in serious danger.
