Years ago I had a set of Maremma/Akbash Livestock dogs 2 females. They assisted with deliveries of goats. They would pull babies and placentas. At that time I had more goats than you do. These dogs are amazing and clean everything up. One of these dogs I caught with a dead baby trying to revive it. I have come to realize after 30+ years with dairy goats to ALWAYS give your Livestock Dogs the benefit of the doubt. I am currently on my 4th set of Livestock Dogs.

We lost a baby this year to an attack by an owl. Our male Pyrenees intercepted the baby midair and unfortunately the talon killed the baby. He proceeded to clean the baby as if it was still alive and also clean the mother. I think you are right on track on what happened.

What a miracle!! I agree with James, stillborns. I believe if she had not helped Moma goat would of died. She saved her life! She is a true hero! She kept the babies away from the flock because otherwise it would of drawn predators. She did what she could to protect the rest of the flock.

Dogs will clean themselves and their puppies. In fact, I’ve known them to clean stray cats. But I have never heard of a regular dog trying to hurt any type of baby, especially one like Enoli, who is raised to protect these animals. They will give their lives to protect the lambs, so I would never think they would do otherwise. Enoli did what she was trained, and her instincts told her what to do. Help the mama, then clean up after, including the babies and the mama. You can relax Enoli is doing her job.

We have had Great Pyrenees for many years, they don't attack what they protect. They are highly intelligent and she sensed the doe was in trouble and her instincts kicked in and she knew she needed to do something to save mom and the babies. And they are know for cleaning up goat babies and even other dogs puppies as well as kittens. They are Gentle Giants...unless something or someone threatens what they love and protect, they will die to protect. I've had one when one of my dogs needed a c-section complete care for the new borns, cleaning and keeping them warm until mama was able to care for them. More than likely she saved your doe's life. And took care of her until she was able to get back on her feet. This has been my experience over many years of owning Great Pyrenees.

The fact that the kid looked like it had been pulled, was completely clean, not injured in any way, tells me you’re correct. Inoli is a natural born midwife. You, sweet lady, are serendipitously blessed. So sad for Pepper.

That baby goat autopsy showed that it was still born, so the dog did not cause her death. Do you ever think of cameras on your farm , so you can keep an eye when you are gone , I have cameras on my goats. And one time I went into town for the day about 100 miles from home, and checked my goat cam and sure enough one of my young goats was stuck in a feeder upside down about to break his neck, I called a friend that lived close to go over as quick as possible and rescue him , thankfully she did , but if I would not had that camera, I surely would have came home to a dead animal.

Love hearing and would rather hear the news of the farm... better then the rest of the world... your farm news is pure truth...

Since the Momma goat is in good and clean shape I’m not leaning toward toxicity issues for the babies.
If it’s a “helping “ situation by Enolie maybe her motherly instincts kicked in and she tried to her best for the babies. Trust your gut and keep watch on the Momma. Trust your puppy.

💯 believe she helped & might’ve even saved the momma’s life, if it was stuck. In her way, she was doing what she knew you would do, had you been there. Ty for sharing! My angels have hooves & paws yall! God be with yall! Your sister in Christ, near Nashville, in beautiful (but sweltering 🥵) TN! ✝️🙏🏼✌️🥰🇺🇸

I think I'm going with what you said. Enoli was protecting that momma, she knew those babies were not viable. She's an amazing guard, farm dog. She's been trained well.
