I owned a plus 8 for my sins , I had wanted one since I was apprentice and first saw the roadtest in Motor Sport , I've also had a 4 4 with a Cosworth engine in that was great , But back to the plus 8 and I hated it , gone now and I have a Healey 3000 , I have done the factory tour and for me the best bit was the afternoon tea , the tour is for people who know nothing about motorcars !

Than I was in the right place :-) I know nothing"about motorcars :) I just like the traditional design, and handcraft related to the production.

The aircraft repair shop I work at has ended up with an old Morgan that belonged to a pilot that died. The car was in the hangar with his plane. It is old , maybe a 1956. Right hand drive, red and it looks to be in good condition. I got to drive it down to our hangar the other day. The steering is very heavy but it has more spunk than my old MGB had.

It was the last tour of the week, Saturday after lunch and they started their weekend. It is the only tour when you see the workshops quiet.. this is why it was special...

Since when has Malvern been in the Cotswolds?

A pity that we can't see how the factory operates.
My memory of Morgan stems from the Troubleshooter TV programme presented by John Harvey-Jones. He showed how they would start fabricating a chassis and then climb abord to ride down the hill to another shed where the doors would be fitted. Then they'd push it back up the hill to the first shed where they'd fit the mirrors, Another ride down the hill would bring them to a different shed where the engine would go in before someone would carry in some seats.....Apparently they'd had a dream for 40 years of producing a 4th car in a week but that would have entailed less pushing. I wonder whether it's the same now.

That´s the challenge of being at a special place only once. If I came in different part of the week, the workshops would be busy. But than I would be limited by very narrow area where are people allowed to walk . Plus as I wrote before, not everybody is happy to be filmed.... One can´t get everything in one go.. Maybe the next time if I had an opportunity to return. But - there are a few more videos on Morgan factory on youtube so I believe you can find more.
We heard hilarious stories about how they sit in chases without seats testing the new motors and driving in these Morgan skeletons in around company grounds.
It´s the challenge of these special experiences - you wan tto capture as much as possible from what you enjoyed at the given moment. Had I an opportunity to be there for a few days, I could create something much better 🙂

The Guide mentioned that programme - one of the points they implemented was that they moved the workshops more in tune with the processes not to push the cars to the hill when they are not yet ready. I am surprised myself how little they tell on their web pages.. probably to make people come and see. But it was really nice - old way of doing things by hands

@@tweedgarden It was an excellent series. Each week J H-J would visit a failing business and be ushured into the boardroom where the directors would bemoan their bonus. Then, like Richard Feynman at NASA, the guys on the shop floor would recount how they'd told the bosses again and again that their hair-brained schemes hadn't a hope. The rest of each programme would follow him cajoling the bosses. The Morgan programme was the final one of the series and where he thought he failed to get everyone to pull together.

The guide said that they didn´t take everything from the advice but the "pushing" was seen as a problem even by Morgan so they rearranged the flow of work so that they don´t havet do that anymore... "Who would build a car factory on a hill" was a cute quote from the serie that was mentioned...But it has a special charm - the fact it´s not flat and the workshops are houses with roofs and not just flat modern boxes :-)

la Morgan non esiste più; la demolizione è iniziata da Peter Morgan e completata dalla nuova proprietà italiana. Ho acquistato due Morgan nuove: 1980 4/4 4s, 2003 4/4 ots
