    As a new father I can say that the baby grip is a real thing. They will also use that grip to hold onto your chest hair as hard as possible. Giggling as you scream.

    Uh ok so when babies have a large forehead and big bulging eyes it’s “cute” but when I have it I’m “horrifically ugly” and “cant go within 500 feet of any maternity ward”??? This double standard makes me sick.

      Legit. For those in the comments needing context, the bloodiest part of Philippine history was the age of martial law declared by a dictator named Marcos, a guy who was your run-of-the-mill cartoon villain in almost every way except he was real and a total problem. I'm talking about "guy has over 45 mansions in his name" and "had an enemy assassinated and denied allegations" tier here. He was eventually exiled to Hawaii but as of recent, his family has returned and the idiot population of this peninsula has elected the guy's son as president. Way to go, Philippines.

      In case you don't get it, weight vs. strength doesn't scale. That's why insects can jump 100 times their body length or something. Think about a human doing that. The thing about babies being born with an inherent sense of right and wrong is so amazing to me, and it's also really tragic because most of the time when people lack empathy it wasn't because they were born that way, but because their environment killed the empathy inside of them :(

    • @MM-jf1me
      @MM-jf1me 2 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      Or maybe the people who lacked empathy were the babies who chose the "mean" toy? There's also a nonzero likelihood that some babies chose a toy arbitrarily or based on some other factor. Anyway, the point is that you can't look at this one example and conclude that all babies initially had empathy and some had their empathy destroyed by their environments. That's an idea worth exploring, but more research would need to be done to reach that conclusion.

    • @IanZWhite00
      @IanZWhite00 2 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      @@MM-jf1me “There’s also a nonzero likelihood that some babies chose a toy arbitrarily or based on some other factor”
      This is actual, genuine scientific illiteracy here. Babies choosing toys arbitrarily or for reasons outside the study is literally the reason you have a control group and large sample size when you want to test for any scenario. No, they are never guaranteed, but they don’t need to be when you can quantify the room for error and include that in your assessment.

    • @MM-jf1me
      @MM-jf1me 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      @@IanZWhite00 The video showed differently colored toys. Looking back on it, this was probably to underline the idea visually of one toy being "good" and another being "bad" but if this were also done in the actual study to help the babies differentiate between the toy displaying kindness and the toy displaying meanness then that is a flaw in the study. The reason studies are peer reviewed is so others can check the methods used (and find any flaws, like if the researcher were to accidentally include variables outside those being tested) and so others can perform the same tests and either substantiate the author's conclusion or point out their own findings and where more research is needed. Not taking claims on faith and critical thinking are part of the scientific process.

Just because the baby choose the nice puupet doesnt mean it has any sense of morality, it just choose the puppet which was more likely to be nice to the baby (in the babies view). Even the most amoral asshole would probably prefer to keep people around him who are nice to him. So if one puppet is giving out free candy and the other one is stabbing other puppets of course the babies would prefer the nice one. The baby had to choose between two kinds of breakfast treats. Next, they saw a puppet choose the other breakfast treat rather than the one the baby preferred.
    Then, the baby viewed a play where the mean doll bullied the doll that had chosen the different breakfast. Result? The babies REWARDED the bullying by choosing the bullying toy.
    In other words, babies thinks it's okay to bully, as long as you only bully people with different preferences than themselves.

    I know someone has probably commented this; but the whole baby not drowning thing is more likely due to the fact they just spent 9 months in a water balloon.
    That being said mammals have a weird relationship with diving so it could just be that the diving reflex works better for them because they use less oxygen than an adult.

    Imagine youre a mother and your baby reaches up, grabs your arm with the might of thor gripping his hammer, looks you in the eye and says:
    There's a school of thought today that rejects patriotism. People are made nervous by that intense allegiance to a country. They think it can only lead to war and bloodshed and that fights can be avoided if we all just compromise and get along. And, of course, compromise and getting along are great things as long as you're not sacrificing essential values. But I believe there's a line in the sand, some things that you have to be willing to stand up for, even if it means trouble. Charlie's patriotism is not blind, flag-waving jingoism: it's an intense allegiance to the American concept of liberty.
    And then proceeds to shit on you.
    Fucking wild man.
