      Thanks. The trailer is Radical Designs Chubby. We just roll back the top and place inside a standard folding fabric dog crate, with a couple of straps to keep it in place.

    So I’ve watched the video again and again and I think I found the trick at about 1:28 where you are taking your dog out of the trailer. It looks like you have covered a plastic dog crate in the trailer itself. That is clever. It also explains why I’ve not been able to find any information on a Radical Design Chubby dog trailer.
    Great idea.

    • @krull57
      @krull57  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi - Yes it is a standard folding fabric dog crate that sits inside the trailer. The lid of the trailer is rolled back and tucked inside. In the UK, the are sold by Halfords under the name of RAC dog carriers. The trailer is not modified.

      @@krull57 thanks, I actually got a great reply from the Radical Design company. They were familiar with your video and knew how you did this :-)
      They were actually looking into making a pet trailer, but it won’t be ready within our timeframe,
      Our dog’s collapsible crate would fit the Chubby perfectly too.

    • @krull57

      Hi. We bought it before brexit.
      Since, Radical design refund you the 21% Dutch vat on large orders and UK customs charge you uk vat (not sure about import duty)
      Quite frankly it is all a right mess. I recently made a £130 order and got a customs surcharge of £54. Should be better for a larger order. They have the procedure on their website.
      A wonderful brexit benefit. It was do easy before. Good luck

      Thanks, glad you liked it. Route was pretty much as you observed. Kept as close as possible to the coast and used bridleways where convenient. The martello towers were on a footpath section, but we walked that.

    Always try to get up to Suffolk, cycling, once a year. Nice trip. I liked the wild camp, under the trees, at the edge of the field. Where was that?
    Re: reservations on trains. You don't need one on local trains, only inter-city. It's just first come, first served - as it should be, I think.

    • @krull57
      @krull57  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      HI - Can't remember where the camping spot was. It was somewhere near Walberswick. One of those places where you are out of sight but not too far from the path.
      The train reservation situation is similar on Northern Trains. But still causes problems when you buy advance tickets and the bike spaces are already full. Folding bikes take away all of the gamble. Can even take them on the bus!

  • @krull57
    @krull57  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Hi Everybody,
    A few folks have asked about the dog crate and whether it was hacked etc.
    It is a standard folding dog carrier (this one in fact - www.amazon.co.uk/RAC-Fabric-Pet-Carrier-Medium/dp/B00MOL9F1I ).
    You roll back the lid of the trailer and tuck it inside. The dog crate sits nicely inside the trailer. I have added a couple of elastic loops from the dog crate handles which go around the trailer axles, just in case, to stop it bouncing out.
    All standard stuff.
    Hope this helps

    • @krull57

    How good is the chubby trailer for touring?

    • @krull57
      @krull57  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, It works well enough. A couple of things to be mindful of - make sure you don't catch it on anything, it is quite wide. Also, being so low, be mindful of the dog being within reach of other dogs.
      It would be a viable solution to touring, but if it was not for the dog, I would strap a rucksack on the back of the bike.

      Just had a look at Radical Designs and they say no UK. We bought ours in about 2017. Looks like yet another brexit benefit. You know, where we were promised frictionless trade with the EU. So infuriating. I would give them a ring, they speak good English and are nice to deal with. They did used to have a post brexit shipping customs protocol. Used it once for some bits. Customs charges were £50 for a £90 order. Looks like it wasn't worth the hassle for them.
