      Same. I'd like to see a tutorial on how to pressure on wake up and how to defend it. All I know is meaty and to pretend meaty but block or step back.

      @@mdz_jimmy I actually learned something too. Have the recovery on random. I never practiced it this way. Smart

    Tbh we need more videos like this. Not being rude, but dumbed down tutorials for very new players. It helps build the community and ultimately gives capcom more motivation to invest in the game. It's a win win for veteran players too, we get the quality content we desperately want.

      It's funny how some random question turn out to be very useful tutorial for so many people, me included :D

    Jimmy should have been hired by Capcom to create the tutorial for this game. You're literally answering every single question I asked that no one answered.
    For years:
    "What's the object of the game?"
    "Why did this happen?"
    "What is the meta that the game rewards?"
    "What are the fundamentals that the game expects for you to employ?"
    Nobody could answer this. I may have actually stuck with it if I knew these answers.
    All I knew was, "You guessed wrong and all your heard work during the round was not rewarded. You lose."
    What do I do next time?
    Guess better.

    This is accurate! Ken players have only 2 wake-up options - light tatsu and ex.dp so yeah if it's light tatsu you can try to meaty :D

      Wake up throw is also an option. As well as medium tatsu.

    Could you also do a video on the timing of a crush counter on their wake up ? You always seem to get them and when I try I hardly ever get them lol

    I think they meant the option selects like delayed c LK, c LK + c HK to cover wakeup options. Maybe not. 👍

    So if they go for throw? They beat your meaty lp , how do you practice that? Or is it just rock paper scissors ?

    • @deep1012
      @deep1012 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Basically yeah. Cus by the end of the day your opponent can wake up with anything.

    • @null-wq5cp
      @null-wq5cp 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      When they go for wake up throw? Throws are 5 frames along with most command grabs, the issue here is timing your lp. Light punch as a meaty isn’t as active but it’s a quick button 3-4 frames. I definitely recommend practicing meaties with more active buttons like MP and crMP. Pretty much, what Jimmy was showing here can definitely counter a reversal throw tech.
      However, on defense people can meaty throw you so this is where the rock, paper, scissors feel kicks in.

    • @mdz_jimmy
      @mdz_jimmy  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You can't counter a meaty attack with a regular throw. Your meaty timing is off if that happens to you.

    • @aaronash58
      @aaronash58 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The difference between a quick rise and a back rise is 5 frames. If they go for a throw on wake-up, the throw will be active on frame 5 or 10. For Ryu this is the difference between trying a standing medium punch or standing heavy punch to counter that. If in general we try to practice meaty timing on people's quick rise ( because it's the fastest wake-up) we should have the active part of our attack hit before any throw can come out. That's why it's a meaty. There is a more technical definition of a meaty, where we don't hit on the first active frame of the attack which allows us to have spare frames on the end which gives us more frame advantage to use different attacks to combo with. This gets a bit tricky to time to say the least. So if you have practised enough to get quick rise timing perfect your opponent may be trying to back rise to throw off your timing. This 5 frame difference may make your meaty whiff. As I said in Ryu's case this may mean using st.hp instead. There are set ups that allow us to hit on both quick and back rise but they are rarer and use attacks with longer active frames and may not lead to the best combos but are safer. In Ryu's case these would be f+hp or in practice I can only find good back+HK pressure. If you really want to explore this concept then its extensive training room time, a good frame data and maybe an app like F.A.T on Android.
