    the thing about messi is that he mostly just goes to the goal in the most efficient way, without all the frills of ronaldo or the showboating of ronaldinho, but since he's so fast and damn good on the ball he can just dribble past multiple defenders and over the years they tried to take him down but fouling him and getting physical before he can run away in open field. but he evolved and now has insane strenght to keep dribbling even after all the tossing and the holding

    6:49 football is a forgiving sport when it comes to height. most players are still around 175cm-180cm, but a lot of shorter players, even shorter than 170cm can still succed because being shorter a lot of times means they have more agility. what actually matters most of the time in the highest levels of professional football is the ability to absorb contact, because defenders tend to be really physical and use their bigger bodies to push you around before you can run far from them

      Saying they have more agility is kind of a stretch and fairly disingenuous in this context.
      If we're talking about NBA stars that are over 7'0 then sure, they'll suffer in agility due to that height. But 5'4 to 6'2? Nah, the different in agility is negligible. That just comes down to your training and if you want to be agile.

    • @ghendao
      @ghendao 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@spin.chicken they are different sports. In football agility has to take into account the agility you have when you have the ball on your feet. Shorter player have lower center of mass so they have easier time controlling the ball while applying many change of direction. In basketball you control the ball with your hands. Besides it holds true to basketball as well. Most of the "shorter" 1.90m player have greater ball control. Most of the best dribblers in football are well shorter than 1.80m, like Messi or Maradona. • @javiv235
    @javiv235 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Hi again!
    So like with Ronaldinho's video, I'm going to try to explain some other things in order to put in scope what Messi really does.
    Before that though, answering your question: no, footballers do not need to be shorter. You will normally find shorter players in "speed" positions as wingers or left/right backs and higher players in defensive roles. With that said, any footballer can play anywhere if their quality, speed, stability or comprehension of the game is correct.
    1. Messi's position has changed along the years (just like Cristiano's). He began as a winger (in most of the vids where he is wearing the 32 or 19 shirt you'll see him begin from the right side of the pitch) and as a winger he was one of the most amazing dribblers football has ever seen. He has goals dribbling 6 players as if he didn't even care how many he had between him and the goal. As years passed, he moved from the wing to the center, to a much more "passing" position than before.
    2. Messi and Cristiano have fought for who was the best football player, but reality is that Messi is consistently the player with mosth accuracy, most assists, most dribbles completed and most goals. This last part is the important one, because Cristiano's role has evolved into a "killer" or purely a scorer, while Messi has evolved maybe inthe the most determining player you could have in a pitch. He does practically everything alright (he doesn't defend at all, though).
    3. Just as a fun fact: players tend to be always running, jogging or trying to be involved in the game; not the case with him. He is capable of seeing and understanding if the situation requires him to get his position lower in the pitch, if he doesn't need -or there is no point in he doing so- to run... he understands the game at a higher level than anyone else has ever done.
    PS: You should react to 2009-2011 FCBarcelona. Arguably the best team in football history (the only one capable of winning every single title they disputed in Europe, 2009).
    Amazing job as always!

    Messi had health complications growing up, and Barcelona fronted the bill to have him move to Spain and play for them. He is not a showboat at all - he just tries his best. It's why it is so easy to love watching him play. Your comment on Ronaldo "knowing he is great" is spot on. Messi had to overcome a lot to get to where he is as the greatest of all time, but people still put him down because his home country hasn't won a world cup and he won't leave the team that paid his medical bills as a child - whereas Ronaldo has swapped teams to play in more leagues. There is a definite divide among fan base between Ronaldo and Messi, as they used to be on rival teams.

    The way he accelerates and decelerates just to get the defenders exactly where he wants them to be. He knows to read the game, a complete package. He is a midfield who scores goals and a forward who creates chances. Messi is pure art. This guy is a genuis, a once in a lifetime generational talent. He's the best there is, the best there has been and possibly the best there ever will be.
    If there is a football god somewhere above and Messi isn't the one himself. He is the Messiah.
    Lionel Andres Messi 🐐

    Messi is the most naturally gifted footballer, Ronaldo is naturally talented but worked himself into the conversation. Luckily got to see them both their whole careers and even got to see Ronaldo live at the Bernebeu. I can die happy.

    I really like how coach here started his journey to the world of football, first he watched Cr7, and Ronaldinho, and then he reacted to Messi and I feel like a newcomer to the sport that's the best way to start because the three are very different and you can just see how much much muchhhh better Messi is when it comes to Raw talent and football knowledge while playing. I enjoyed the video and liked the reaction

    Thing that makes Messi and Ronaldo so great is they came into great teams at such a young age and got to experience some of the best players right in front of them and they learnt from that. Ronaldo had Van Nilsterooy, Ryan Giggs, Fedinand, Paul Scholes. Messi had Ronaldinho, Eto'o, Xavi and Iniesta. Even in terms of mentality, ronaldo had that bully mentality, learnt from the above mentioned players, that grind out and get a result get it done mindset due to the physicallity of the Premier league,even that no nonsense attitude from Ferdinand. Messi has a more humble approach, doesnt often get upset ether they won or lose, he's greatful to express himself,make beautiful passes and he loves scoring. That's learnt from players older than you when you're 18 coming into a team of stars, their qualities rub off on you. Ronaldinho showed him there's nothing wrong with dribbling and beating players game in game out. If Ronaldo went to let's say Liverpool at that age he would've been a much different player overall, same with Messi if he went to Real Madrid or went to the Premier league for Arsenal for example. I'm grateful for Ronaldinho's Barcelona and That Manchester United team that won the 1999 champions league.They were intrical in the development of in my opinion the 2 greatest players of all time

    As some other people wrote, there are some short players like Iniesta with an excellent skills for controlling the ball and the pace of the game [ they would be Little giants.. : ) ]
    In terms of driving the ball in the field, an Argentina legend called Alfredo Di Estefano said this quote that can reflect the style of Messi:
    "The ball is made of leather, that comes from the cows, the cows eat grass, so, play with the ball in the grass"
    And well, the movement through the legs certainly is very humiliating.. if in a playtime of a school you hear a " woooo"..probably is because some kid made this to another during a game..xd

    Messi is the best football player in history, and a part of that greatness (for me at least) stems from the fact that it's all so natural to him. He doesn't train as hard as say Ronaldo, but in most aspects of the game, he is still better than all the other players. He is one of the most complete players in football.

    Short players have a low center of gravity which helps them navigate the field better and dribble also messi is 5'6-5'7
