Art, architecture, classical music, sport (at least many of them) are just a few of the things that Spain (any many other countries) have done and still do better than the USA, and that’s even before I mention the concept of “standing on the shoulders of giants”. The US had a head start... it could build on the developments of other already developed countries and it’s one of the reasons why the US has grown so quickly and quite successfully (I said quite because it’s the economic and military superpower but there’s lots of things it’s does pretty badly, e.g. equality issues, both racial and social). The US needs to acknowledge the legacy of where it came from and the debt it owes to developments and inventions of all kinds from other nations upon which it was able to build.

First of all, I should say that I'm portuguese (Cristiano Ronaldo's country) and Messi is the greatest of all time, and the rest of the players aren't even close. I feel like some of the goals needed a little bit of context, for people who are not that acquainted with football.
-Well, the first goal you saw was in the Champions League final (the most coveted club competition, it's what the biggest teams in Europe compete for) and you have to remember that Messi is like 1,7m (or 5ft77) and Manchester United was known for having a very solid and tall defending line.
-Goal no. 16 (vs. Bayern Munich) was also for the Champions League, albeit for the semi-finals this time, and there are two other reasons why this goal is so impactful: first of all, Bayern's goalkeeper was by far the best in the world at this time (it's ridiculous how good he was), and he said ahead of the game that Messi wouldn't put a goal past him, so Messi chipped him with his weakest foot, secondly, he just made Boateng (one of the world's top defenders at that time) sit down.
I feel like I can't stress enough how important it is that some of the goals are for the Champions League (especially when they are in the finals or semis, quarters, or round of 16). To put it in perspective, imagine that there is an NBA player that's able to score 30 points in the regular season against a weaker team. It's still really great, but not the same as he netted the same 30 points in the play-off final game. The team he'd be playing against would be a lot better, and the added pressure would be immense.
Also, although Messi scored great goals, I feel like this doesn't do him enough justice. You should watch another video of highlights or skills, or something, because some of his best footwork is when he assists.

The weird thing is that Messi does this against the best players in the world. In a generation which is way more gifted defensively than the previous ones.

The modern game is more attacker biased, it's a lot harder to be an attacker in the past bcos the referees weren't as strict, and defenders take pride in being a tough man, past defenders like goikotxea, jaap stam, vinnie jones was allowed to continue playing with their aggressive style and the strikers of the past have to just deal with this kind of defenders, they'd absolutely be sent off in today's game.
