    Just got an evo 16 a few days ago and i love the way it can be controlled (hardware controls and software) and started looking for a expansion being at least nearly that smart like the evo 16. Well, fortunately there is the SP8 now! Really love what you have done with the „EVO-System“!

    Seriously considering this. One comment/ pet peeve. Put all 8 mic inputs on the back like on the ASP 800. I have the similar design my 8pre which means two mic cables permanently stuck in the front and is a royal pain for clean cable management- full realization that this is a narrow footprint, just so much cleaner when you don't have permanent mic cables sticking out the front.

      How is the latency on the Evo 16 when recording? The one thing that concerns me is the Evo 16 uses USB-C.

    • @weareevoaudio
      @weareevoaudio  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The EVO 16 can get down to <4-5Ms round trip latency when you are using lower buffer sizes. This will depend the computer and DAW you are using however.
      You do also have the Built in direct monitoring that allows you to monitor your inputs with almost zero latency (<0.5ms).

    not sure if my question will get answered in the youtube comments section but I wil ltry haha.
    so a while ago I bought an ID44 and I love it to bits. It works wonderfully but it is time to upgrade it and give it more inputs and I was wondering if I could buy an evo 16 and use it as an extra 8 but also as a seperate interface when I need something portable. would it function the same way as an evo sp8 would with my ID44?
    my other question is does the smart gain and other cool features still work with my ID44 or does it have to be connected to an evo16?
    and last question (again probably wrong place for it) will there be an update for the ID software at all? It feels it needs one as I have so many function buttons on my ID44 that I just can't use since there aren't enough functions to map to all the buttons.

    • @weareevoaudio
      @weareevoaudio  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We wouldn't really recommend using the EVO 16 as a standalone pre-amp as the routing is quite difficult to set up and is quite inflexible, we'd instead recommend the EVO SP8 for that.
      You can use SmartGain on an SP8 by pressing the button on the unit, however it's not possible to control the SP8 through the iD mixer application. It's only currently possible to do this on the EVO Mixer application when using an EVO 16 as the host interface.
      We regularly update the iD software to add features and support for upcoming OS releases. Adding more functions for the mappable F-kays is currently on our requested features list so we will see if we can add this in a future update.

    Hey what are the main differences between this and say the ASP800? Is the quality of the ASP preamps/converters still much higher or has this modernized/closed the gap somewhat? Thanks!

    • @weareevoaudio
      @weareevoaudio  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The ASP800 and the EVO SP8 are quite similar but the ASP800 has the Console Mic Pre's and the Retro channels whereas the SP8 has the digitally controlled EVO pre-amp. Both sound great but give you slightly different 'flavours' of pre-amp. The converters spec wise are very similar between the two devices. The SP8 does also have the advantage of having 8 DACs to give you outputs as well as just inputs.

    • @tris421
      @tris421 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@weareevoaudio Thanks for the reply! Wow tough choice. SP8 also appears a lot more compact which can be useful. But the console mic pres/retro channels are also tempting. Hmmm.

    • @weareevoaudio
      @weareevoaudio  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The SP8 does have different pre-amps than the Console Pre-amps we use on our iD and ASP Ranges as we designed a brand new circuit that allows for digital control, so we can add features such as Spart Gain. However, this new pre-amp has super low noise and distortion with a lightening fast transient response so you'll get loads of detail!

    From what I'm seeing, to upgrade from the EVO4, this would be perfect. I don't think it's necessary to go with the EVO16?. If at some point it was necessary to have 8 more inputs, I could get the EVO16.

  • @n0saj
    @n0saj ปีที่แล้ว

    Great product ! I’ve watched a lot of id/evo videos, and if you pair sp8 with any ID unit (except id44), you only get 2 cue mixes right ? So it means if you want to feed a headphone amp with sp8 outputs, only 2 pairs of outputs will get a cue mix (so low latency monitoring) while the other 2 will only get daw thru (so with “latency”). Why not add 2 more cue mixes ? It’s just software routing.. Or maybe there’s something I missed. Thanks :)

    • @weareevoaudio
      @weareevoaudio  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is correct that only the EVO 16 and iD44 currently offer 4 cue mixes with the other iD ranges offering 2 cue mixes.
      In order to ensure the cue mixes are ultra low latency, the mix needs to be done on the interfaces DSP and only the iD44 and the EVO 16 have the DSP power on board to add the extra mixes. Adding this extra DSP power to the other units would have meant they have a higher cost or higher power requirements which couldn't be provided over a USB connection

    I really wonder why you decided to do two line-ins on the front side. This somewhat ruins the design of the device and it's not that difficult now to plug your cables in the back for a Jam session if they're not already connected there anyway. And in a rack, no one wants to have cables hanging down the front (except patch cables). Let's see when the first deeper comparisons with the ASP880 arrive. It fills a gap between the Behringer devices and the much more expensive competition.

    • @XanderEwald
      @XanderEwald ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think the two instrument inputs on the front are sort of an industry standard for a reason. Many people use them to plug in guitars, mics or whatever else they want to quickly connect.

    • @kuhliloach8842
      @kuhliloach8842 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good one! This design choice also makes no sense to me as I now have two cables sticking out of the front of the device.

    • @weareevoaudio
      @weareevoaudio  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you all for your feedback. Some people like to have the ports on the front for quick access to the DI's or for just quickly patching a Mic in, but can certainly understand is could potentially be a bit of a pain for cable management.
      Either way, it would have been a bit of a struggle to fit the two XLR's on the rear of the unit whilst keeping the compact form factor and all the I/O required.

    • @frankenfrank9553
      @frankenfrank9553 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I also need more connections than my audio interface provides, but this mix of two inputs on the front and the rest in the back is a no-go for me visually and also practical. If you want to quickly change an instrument or microphone, you do that primarily first on the audio interface. I assume that 90% of people use this device stationary, there you do not constantly pull cables out and in, but change the devices at the other ends of the cables. Too bad, I think/guess that the device is otherwise excellent.

    • @RealHomeRecording

    • @weareevoaudio
      @weareevoaudio  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can use the EVO 16 and SP8 to provide the outputs for the 13.2 system, however it doesn't have the ability to act as a monitor controller for these outputs so you would need a separate monitor controller to control your listening levels.

      How many SP8's you can use depends on how many optical ports your host interface has. For example, if you are using an EVO 16 as your host interface then you can connect up to two SP8's as it has two input and output optical ports.

    Why should someone get this over a evo 16. Isn't it possible to use two evo 16 linked via adat for example? Or expand the current Interface with evo 16.

    • @weareevoaudio
      @weareevoaudio  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The EVO 16 isn't designed to be used as an ADAT expander so it's not possible to adjust the clocking or sample rate on the device itself or easily adjust the audio routing of the unit. The SP8 is designed for this use case however.

      The EVO 16 is designed to operate as an Audio interface over USB and the SP8 is an ADAT expander unit. While hey are fairly similar in design, they are designed for different use cases.
