    You can also add bone/beef broth high fat, using suet, fat trimmings, bones with marrow and connective tissue, fatty meat.....etc
    It is hydrating, has minerals, collagen at the same time too.

      Wait. You were doing carnivore and not getting into ketosis? I have the same issue. Which doesn't make sense because my total carb intake has to be less than 5 g/day. My ketones are like 0.2-0.3. So you upped the fat?

    • @neahsway
      @neahsway  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +9

      @mtnshow1 For some, too high a protein intake can cause the extra amino acids to be turned into glucose, thus keeping the body out of ketosis. I think this is what was happening to me, and was the reason I wasn't sleeping well or having great energy. When I upped my fat and dropped protein a little all that improved. 👍

    As a 76 year old woman who became carnivore 4 months ago, I don't have the energy or interest in learning about macros or keeping track of anything. I just hope what I'm doing is enough. I definitely could care less about calories and didn't have a ton of weight to lose (wasn't something I cared about) but I lost at least 20 pounds in the first 2 months. Now I'm maintaining...and again, wasn't one of my priorities. BTW, how does anyone eat raw fish? Yuk!!!

    This is something I really need to do. I'm almost 60 days in, and I'm not feeling optimal. I think it's because I'm undereating or not enough fat. But I hate HATE tracking and weighing. One of the main reasons I did carnivore was the unlimited eating. But since I'm OMAD'ish, I can probably just do it for a week. Thanks for putting this together.

    I'm probably around 60-65% fat. Fat/protein ratio is one of the few areas I think individual results vary. When I ate higher fat, I tended to get puffy, especially in my midsection and glutes. Lower fat, higher protein tightened me right up.

    I am so happy to hear, right from the start that you are going to show photos of the high fat meals... I have never been able to manage the grams thing... even though I have an IQ of 128, I just need to see the visual ... what does the high fat meal look like... I have been 95% Carnivore since October of 2018 and never lost any weight even though I am very obese... I need to lose about 1/3 of my body weight... I keep trying to go on a water-fast, but that is so hard to do when I have to work full time... I am 78 years old and I am a "Little person"... I have extreme insulin resistance. I have not been on any medications for the past 14 years. wow... no wonder I don't lose any weight... I must eat three or four times that amount of food in a day.... well, not always but some days I do. I never eat less than 4 chicken thighs in a meal.. or a dozen chicken wing flats... or a 10 ounce ribeye... those are my meal sizes. I eat two to three meals a day though I did try OMAD with one ribeye for some time and I never lose one pound on Carnivore... I only lose if I stop eating entirely and just have water... then it takes four days before I go into Ketosis on water-only... I have never had pork-belly but I have it on my list if I can only remember to follow my list when I go shopping.

    • @Dakiniwoman
      @Dakiniwoman 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@AlCiampa Maybe it has to do with my lifetime previously of yo-yo dieting? Maybe it is because I am a "little person"... I definitely know I am not like most people. At one time I did a diet with a friend and we made and ate all our meals together and ate the very same foods, she lost a lot more and faster than I did and we were both only a little overweight at the time... I have an unusual metabolism for sure. My normal weight is 85 to 95 pounds according to all standard weight recommended charts though most of them don't show anyone of my 55 inch stature. I have a medium bone structure. I was 86 pounds at age 29 and I was not at all thin. I am now Obese class 2 at 146 pounds so I need to lose about 1/3 of my body weight to be normal... I do have a very sedentary lifestyle as I am an artist and I am 78 years old now.

      @@Dakiniwoman Unless you have mental health issues that you are healing with high fat I would look at letting your body use its own body fat for a few days a week. If your fat adapted your body will tap into its own fat stores when not given enough fat through food. Be careful to not go low protein when losing weight especially at your age or it will be muscle loss which is very unhealthy and keeps you in insulin resistance. Keto Maria has a calculator if you want to track your macros for weight loss.

    Tracking is a TOOL to reset perceptions/gauges. I don't know why people get so dramatic about it. There is no denying that doing it for a few days helps tweaking problems like this. I faced the same issue, freeform carnivore, and was eating too much protein and not enough fat. I have sleep issues (waking up at 2:30am every night now) and energy issues, lethargy. Thank you so much for all this information! It resonated with my actual 53 days of carnivore and my somewhat overwhelming confusion of macro management. I am not sure how to calculate the percentage of fat on my daily allowance. I am using chronometer but I haven’t put any input data there, so I think chronometer did it. Every time I put my daily food it says I am 200+ percent of fat! And I am not eating as much fat you are eating here.😁I will do my math tonight and put the input in Chronometer. 1 question: is this feature(putting the input) is on the free version? And also, I was putt img the meat weight uncooked.

    So I have a question for you, on other channels I see that the calculations are "1 gram per pound of ideal body weight" to calculate the appr. amount of protein intake per day.
    I saw your calculations in kg: 53 X 1.2= 63.6 grams of protein per day.
    53 kilos= In pounds 116, would be 116 grams of protein per day?
    Just wondering because I am just trying to figure out how counting macro's work

    Do you wear a sleep mask? Blocking out all light helps my sleep tremendously. So does a tbsp of butter right before bed.
    And I don't think the fat to protein ratio is as important as getting enough fat and enough protein. You might be able to add more protein if you want, as long as you have enough of an appetite for it in addition to however much fat you're targeting.

    • @neahsway
      @neahsway  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Yes, I tried both these things along with topical magnesium spray, and none of it worked consistently. There are a couple livestreams on my channel where I talk about that. And I do agree that hitting the amount in grams is probably more important than the overall percentages.

    The more fat I eat the more weight I gain, I do OMAD carnivore. Do you get into ketosis on the high fat carnivore? Did u test? Same glucose? Test? I also do not like counting macros, good job with doing that.

    I notice you weigh your food cooked. Is there a conversion from raw? I believe raw is the most accurate.

    • @itsyoupeyton
      @itsyoupeyton 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      This is what I thought. I was always told to weigh raw otherwise it will be inaccurate.

    • @neahsway
      @neahsway  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      Raw is probably most accurate from an initial measuring standpoint, but due to the water loss and some fat loss during the cooking process I was finding pretty major discrepancies when logging my food. Pork belly is probably the best example. I started weighing it raw, but what I actually consumed after cooking was not lining up with the macros for the raw entry. Raw pork belly in cronometer is listed as 92% fat (79.5g per 150g serving) and 8% protein (14g per serving), and cooked pork belly says 72% fat (48.4g per 150g serving) and 28% protein (39.9g per serving). Comparing visually what I was eating cooked lined up more withe the cooked entry, so that's what I decided to do across the board. BUT at the end of the day, these things are all guestimates anyway, so I think it's important to just get as close as you can and go from there. :)

    You don't need macros.
    Just increase your fat intake.
    Ask your butcher for trimmings, and more butter or ghee to meat while cooking and when on your plate!!
    You don't need any gadgets at all!!

  • @AlCiampa

    We have to get out of the percentages mindset. The daily individual requirements of protein and fats for everyone are independent of each other. The percentage equation may be a good starting point, and even perhaps a good rule of thumb in general, but it doesn’t work for some. Let alone that calories don’t apply to biological systems and yet these percentages are based on total calories.

    • @neahsway
      @neahsway  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Right. I tried to make that clear in the beginning, and I most definitely don't do this all the time. Just for a little experiment now and then to see where I'm at. :)

      She's very thin, so she has lower need for protein. She's doing 1.2 grams/kg which is much higher than the RDA of 0.8. The protein god Don Layman has said that 1.5 g/kg is a pretty good target (making sure that there are at least 3 grams of leucine twice a day for muscle growth)

    • @neahsway
      @neahsway  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

      You can see from my data here that I did exceed that protein number on a few days. Again, figuring out these numbers was just to give me a ballpark idea of what I'm consuming, and if intentionally increasing my fat had any effect. At the end of the day, if I'm hungry, I eat more. Or if I'm craving more protein, I eat it. But my sleep is SO MUCH better since I really dialed in my fat.

    • @RalfyCustoms
      @RalfyCustoms 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @neahsway Thanks for the reply. It still seems way low on protein after my own macros, at 135g protein (I'm 57, 176lbs keto), but tbh I rarely hit my protien target myself
