Woah, when I suggested doing The Pagemaster for one of your next videos I had no idea it was going to *literally* be your next video. Nice. Welcome back, Console Wars! As a 90s kid I just knew this was one of those movie tie-in games I was extremely curious about but didn't have any of the consoles to play them on at the time, because of seeing the ad for it on the movie's VHS release and how they loved to hype all these games up in 90s advertising fashion. Eventually I did get to own a copy of the SNES version, which I guess was the better version of the game after all. Might not have been one of the best movie tie-in games but it is notable for being one of the first ones released by Fox Interactive, and I still hold a fondness for the movie itself as a part of my childhood.
Got to admit, you guys make fighting over which 30 year old game is better than other very entertaining. Well done. And congrats on the child Dan, your grey hair is already coming on nicely!
A modernized Suburban Commando quote!?!?! 🤯Well played gentlemen, those lines gave me a nostalgia flashback to the preview trailers from the VHS release of TMNT II: Secret of the Ooze! 🐢 Thumbs up if you remember those previews and/or you want more Greg cameos on the channel! (❤ Greg). Love your content guys, keep up the stellar work 👍
absolutely love this duo, I love this great content as well. Thank you for being original and I appreciate the time in between videos because they are quality!!
Geez, now this is an obscure one! Although, I have to admit, seeing you guys cover it makes me want to give the game a shot and rewatch the movie. Also, that end teaser... You're really going to do that to yourselves?! What next, the SNES and Genesis versions of The Incredible Hulk?!
Welcome back dudes! Phenomenal episode! I used to rent this game from my local video store on the SNES... I never made it past the first level. lol Loved the opening with the "American Psycho" parody, who knew business cards were Patrick Bateman's one weakness. Oh boy, next episode's gonna be a good one! :D
Happy to see a new Console Wars video! Great episode to cover! I was a Sega child growing up, but was fortunate to own both Genesis and SNES in the hight of popularity. ;) The Pagemaster was a movie I had huge nostalgia over from watching religiously. Lol In case of the games, I happened to own the SNES version of the game with curiosity of how the Sega version was. It’s pretty interesting seeing the nitty gritty differences between these games. I just wished the controls weren’t so slippery in an otherwise decent game for what it tried to be. There are worse license games out there… The biggest nostalgia for me however was always seeing the promotional ad for the video games before the movie begins. I remember being under the assumption of the Sega Genesis version possibly being the better one because of my Sega bias. Lol
A big congratulations and welcome back. Just everything feels you're on top of your game, the green screen bits, the banter, the breakdown of the game, and the hilarious ending skit.
The winner has GOTTA be the Genesis version, right? Friend had the SNES version as a kid and we thought the game was trash. Picked it up on Genesis as a young adult and I remember it feeling so different to what I remembered on SNES and being... actually good! People crap on this game, but I actually pull the Genesis version out every year to play around October for Halloween, even though it's not a "Halloween game" per se.
@@littlemacisunderrated412 You answered my question. Usually when someone uses “mk. 1” it means _mark 1_ like an early version or attempt. I thought maybe there was an earlier version of this episode that I missed.
I really do love this channel. I wish these guys would get more recognition for it they definitely deserve more subscribers. I have to wait so long for a new episode. Such a shame. Much love to you console wars.

I love to see you back. I know the main focus is Sega Genesis vs SNES, but I also like the NES vs Master System videos you guys have done. Maybe do some Saturn/N64 videos in the future? I know there weren't many third party games on both systems, but it would be fun to see some comparisons. 🙂
19:42 OMG, I couldn't agree more!!! I mean, Bloodlines is not a bad game at all, but it totally feels like a downgrade (and a nightmare) after trying the PERFECT controls for Super Castlevania IV.
Welcome back boys. It has been a while. Great video game to showcase the difference between the two consoles. Everyone needs to read a book now a days.
Welcome back, Console Wars!!!!!!! To be honest, I was expected the start of the Episode to be a continuation from the previous one, where you were in Prison. Don't worry! I still like how the Episode began! The Pagemaster is one of those Games I've been looking forward to you to cover after seeing it over and over while looking through your VGCollect Game Collection. The only footage from it I've seen until now was clips from a few Videos. From the Screenshots of the Games that I'd seen before this Episodes, I was expecting the game footage you'd provide to be a feast for the eyes, with a wide variety of settings and stuff of various themes. You did not disappoint there! It was just what I was looking for! Thanks for showing what The Pagemaster Games for SNES and Genesis have to offer in such great detail! Oh, and the plot itself was good too, in spite of not being a continuation of the whole "in prison" thing from the last Episode that I was expecting. I liked Dan's version of the Pagemaster! I also liked how the ending took advantage of the whole "Gamemaster being Pagemaster with Games" thing to show footage from other Video Games! Anyway, in case you forgot, I did say in the Comments for the previous Episode that this Episode would be worth the wait. Well, rest assured, it was! Congratulations on this fine comeback! Thanks for not making us wait until 2024, in spite of the baby! Oh, and I believe the Game for the next Episode is gonna be Shaq Fu! No doubt it's gonna be one of those "Worst Game" Episodes. Looking forward to that!
I love your skits guys! Makes me very happy, i would to see a New episode of Art of Fighting with Dan dressed as Ryo and Pat dressed as Mrbig 😂 or a Fatal Fury 2 since today we get a announced of a new FF game
SNES supports color blending which was used for those nice overlay effects. Genesis doesn't have that built into the hardware. Mode 7 was also used well. I do like both soundtracks, they sound very nice in their own ways. People never stop arguing over which console has better music (in general, with all games)... They're different, that's all. Quality comes down to the composers.
Genesis more on composite artifacting that blends dithering to fake transparency or more colors that the VDP couldn't handle as well as software-mixed simultaneous pitched, looped and volume-controlled multiple samples on the 6th channel in DAC mode of the YM2612.
Well, Yeah, they're different. But that's too shallow to say everything comes down to the composers. Snes can explore "areas" in music that genesis cannot. Snes can do the type of music listened in Genesis, while genesis can't do some instruments listened on Snes. The only disadvantage of Snes soundchip is that It uses sampling which takes much more space on cartridge to store all different samples, depending on the game. Making some songs in games very short loops to save space. While genesis songs are much longer. Since they are simply sequence compositions for the built in synth to play. And yes, despite limitations, both can have good n bad music.
@@3xperiment8 Actually, there are certain effects that the FM synthesizer in the Genesis can do easily, as it is generating its own waveforms, and can modify them on-the-fly, even during a single note. Mimicking these effects on the SNES with samples is probably impossible in most cases. Of course, because of samples, SNES does far better with orchestral sound. They work differently, and deliver a different result. I say it comes down to composer because it depends on that composer's ability to use the hardware to its fullest. Some composers were really good at using one kind, but not so good at the other. And some are good at both. And some just aren't good in general. How good the music sounds depends on who programmed it on that console. Finally, SNES song length isn't what matters. A song is a series of commands telling the console what samples to use, when to use them, at what pitch, and all that. What matters is sample length, and how many samples there are. Even a very short sample can be looped many, many times to make a long note. That's how SNES music is always done. SNES music tracks can be _very_ long, as with the Genesis. Point is, the composers made use of the different sound chips in their own ways, and did very well with both.
@@BeefJerkey I notticed early obscure Snes titles have music with very short loops. With those games being all in 16Mbits cartridges. It's gotta be a space related reason, because visually some are ok. About the soundchips, there is nothing on sound that Genesis produces that Snes can't. It's quite the oposite. Sure some can talk about how wavy and roundy the waves are on Genesis but that's not any advantage. Snes can do all sorts of music, including techno and heavy metal. That genesis sound chip can't. Put the same composers on both systems and he will have more possibilities and do better on the Snes system. As was the case of Yuzo Koshiro.
Welcome back! As i commented before, with multiplatform games from that period, they usually come it the same cartridge ROM sizes. So the Super NES will usually have more colors and effects which will take up more memory which means devs have to find cuts elsewhere, assuming the game is maxing out the (usually 8, 16 or 24 Mbit cartrdiges) this is why we see a lot of incongruent cuts in otherwise similar games. Usually it's judging whether the additions add more to the games than the cuts.
Always enjoyed watching this, I'm glad you're still at it all these years later. Even if I didn't always agree with the final outcome, the way you break down the strengths and weaknesses of each variant of the game is very informative to say the least. I can't remember if you ever did Hook on SNES vs. the Genny or not but that would be an interesting comparison. I'm just going to say this though, when it comes to that game? The SNES version is the runaway winner. Either way, much respect to you guys, I hope you keep doing this as long as possible. I would love to see a redux of older episodes with Pat offering his take on things. The Castlevania one in particular, I would love to see what Pat has to say on that, and how he would break down the strengths and weaknesses of both titles.
Never saw the Pagemaster movie and never played the game because of that reason. But I think these games look pretty fun! That's what I love about this channel - it introduces people to a lot of games I'd like to play (or avoid in some instances). Awesome work! :D

Nice to have you back!
Also I have no idea who that band in the hint is.
My son and I loved this. :) Especially the car bouncing around!
Welcome back, love you all and Greg too!
Love the Suburban Commando reference at the beginning!!!
Love that people are getting it!
I can't believe you got Macaulay Culkin to cameo as the wizard!
Lmao the whole Custer's Revenge bit was comedy genius 😂😂
Patrons get spoilt. HEx YEAH! Love you guys!
Never saw the Pagemaster movie and never played the game because of that reason. But I think these games look pretty fun! That's what I love about this channel - it introduces people to a lot of games I'd like to play (or avoid in some instances). Awesome work! :D
