I never played Shaq Fu but what I expected of it apparently is what it was. Bad. Great video tho!! You guys make really good content and I’m always happy to see anything new from Console Wars! ❤
That's kind of the problem with consensus-thinking, it can be hard to say anything good about what the group deems bad.🤔 Like I think at the very least it's a graphically lush title with some excellent pixel art. Yeah a Delphine special using small sprites with many frames, but even SF2 has moves that are only use two frames so excellence in the genre isn't about smooth animation. 6:00 Hey it could have gone that way, actually a lot of stories of game development along those lines.😉 A really tough one to rate between versions as the cross platform work was fairly seamless in Shaq Fu which is actually something else to praise too. Most of the time the Genesis one would look much worse, or the SNES one would be lacking in colors if the source art was too Genesis optimal. This one definitely came down to nitpicking the finer presentation points.😐Great sketches guys, love that commentary on recent ancient monuments.😅
Just what did the old man do with the SEGA and SNES Console War nerds in the backroom for two days…? Should I even be asking this? lol BTW Congratulations on your 100th episode and Dan’s expecting of a newborn with Sam!
Funny thing is I use to work in the hotel not long ago that was built where the old St Guile's Brewery stood that caused the explosion which lead to the London Beer Flood. As a part of the concierge team I was telling the story of the Beer Flood all the time. Can't believe you mentioned that here.
Hell yeah! Way better than the comparison I did. You guys should do more bad game comparisons to see which is worse. Rise of The Robots is way worse than Shaq Fu. Same with Slaughter Sport.
Makes me wonder if someone did a rom hack of the SNES version to add in the missing features and stages from the Genny release. Dear lord, this wasn't even a contest. The Genny version was hands down the better version of the game between the two. Not that this was a great game by any stretch, but damn, it really was far worse on SNES.
Bruce Lee, The Dragon Story is a pretty decent game. The Atari Jaguar version is the best one by far, though. It would be cool to see them do the SNES vs Genesis versions.
Missed the premiere but loved the episode of course. Who would have thought there'd be such substantial differences? Most people just write off the game before getting to the nitty gritty details. It's like the SNES version is an alpha build in comparison to the Genesis version.
Trivia: To fit the exclusive on the Lab level, Rajah (who's name originates from the word 'Raja', which means 'king' or 'the ultimate power', given the fact that he is a prince) had his line changed from "You may have gotten past my swords but the Colonel will teach you a lesson, fool." to "You may have gotten past my swords but Voodoo's magic will teach you a lesson, fool.".
I swear I am the only person that liked this game. This game isn't anywhere as bad as others' claim. I didn't hear negative things about this game until after AVGN fad hit. I think the earliest I heard the propaganda was from Screw Attack. They did a podcast about how they hated the game 'cause they couldn't beat it. This prompted their fans to nod their heads and agree without even playing it-- till this day, the only people that hate it are ones that don't play fighting games and try to play it like Street Fighter. Which makes sense since Screw Attack themselves didn't play games [we found that out during gamer-gate], especially not fighters. It's its own game. It has its own rules. If you try to play it like Street Fighter or Mortal Kombat then it's a "bad" game. Also, I believe the story behind NES missing features is the team was told the game was suppose to be Sega exclusive, and the plains were changed like 3 months before release; they had to scramble to translate everything into the NES. Great show. Love it.
I agree 100%. It's not a great game by any stretch of the imagination, but it is also not the raging dumpster fire that so many people make it out to be.
@@ConsoleWars I'm guessing it's because there were people who thought the game was that bad. There were some games i thought were pretty bad. Nothing to make me go on a cartidge rampage though🤣🤣
@ConsoleWars I just didn't expect the "console wars" yell to be extra loud this time. Sorry if jumpscare is an incorrect term to use, im just sensitive to loud sound and it gave me a spook. Congrats on 100 episodes btw! Nice work
Ahhhh, it was so good to see these console war videos come back! I played the SNES version back in the day. I already didnt like the game and to hear it was missing stages and characters too??? That's nuts!
You could have talked about the Snes supporting more colors in the graphics section because the Genesis seems to use checkerboard patterns or dithering to fake the extra colors of the Snes.
I picked this game up for the genesis for $1 from a comic book store back in 2012, and I gotta say, it was no where near as bad as people say it is. There are SO many worse fighters on the Genesis. All in all, this is actually a pretty fun game -- and as you guys said, there's actually a lot of real effort that went into the graphics and presentation. No idea why it gets the bad rap that it does. I mean... it's nowhere near as good as Michael Jordan Chaos in the Windy City, but it's a perfectly fun game. Anyway, nice video, fellas. Had no idea there was so much missing in the snes game. Also, the sequel wasn't a half bad beat-em-up either. I remember it maybe having some bugs and having some kinda cringe "edgey" humor, but being an overall really fun experience.
Back in 2002/2003 when I was fresh out of high school would hit up various thrift shops on the daily for gaming deals, taking the advantage of actually having my own money for once, and still have my Genesis copy of Shaq Fu complete in box I snagged for $3. Even at the time my only knowledge of the game was reading the reviews in gaming magazines and knew it wasn't worth looking into beyond a curiousity rental.
I knew from that Next Episode Hint that it was gonna be Shaq Fu! I was expecting a good, but not grand episode, which is was I got here. In spite of Shaq Fu's reputation of supposedly being one of the worst games ever, I've heard here and there that, eh, it's not the worst, there are WORSE games out there. That's exactly the message I got from you here. Anyway, what I liked best about this Episode was that it didn't try going all out, with a, how should I say, grand, epic scale presentation, in spite of Shaq Fu's reputation. Thanks for keeping it simple! I think 20 to 21 Minutes was just the right length for this Episode, without making things feel draggy and drawn-out! Good sketches at the beginning, middle and end. Laughed out loud at the running gag in today's sketch (not gonna spoil it) for all 3 times it happened. Anyway, another good job guys! Thanks for keeping things simple, while still delivering a good Episode! Judging by today's Next Episode Hint, the next Game's gonna be Wolfchild! Oh heck yeah! I hope it arrive at least in time for Halloween! Here's an extract from a Comment I made in another video of yours (forgot which one): "You've done Episode plots about zombies, vampires and Frankenstein's Monster for past Halloween Episodes. I figure doing a Episode about "Wolfchild" would be a good excuse to do a plot about werewolves." Looks to me like you guys are actually following my suggestion! Thank you so much! Man, I am so looking forward to the next Episode! Seen you there! Laters!!
Awesome episode... rofl! Man, I really wonder how this game was SO broken and missing things on the SNES... must be a deadline thing... Oh, and Wolfchild is the next episode! Nice! THIS IS CONSOLE WAAAARRRRSSSS!
I have the SEGA version and I’ve never really understood the hate for this game. When it comes to controls I’ve never been able to do any special moves anyway in any fighting games. I was one of those _Mortal Kombat_ or _Street Fighter_ players who just cheeses the duck/up-punch tactic out of desperation. I wasn’t able to beat it because that one old man at the gate would usually own my ass and run out of lives. I was able to sit there striving to get further in the story mode so I wasn’t hating on it ever. Is the next episode _Wolfenstein?_
Welcome back gentlemen! I have been missing yall doing these...to this very day I always to comparison between the Snes And Sega Genesis at least 4 to 5 times a day....lol

One reason I love emulation... You can fix the screwy horizontally-stretched SNES aspect ratio for games that need it (most of the library, actually). On RetroArch, you can even save the aspect ratio for specific games and not have to switch back and forth when you play a different game.
@@ConsoleWars dude, it's so ridiculous! It's a pretty repetitive beat me up but it's got Shaq music from Shaq Diesel playing in the background, a very humourous script and a special Barack Obama parody version too where you play as Obama. It's super fun.
An odd quirk about this game is that it was designed for PAL formats as 50 Hz and not adjusted for NTSC's 60 Hz. This means it runs about 1/6 faster than intended. At least for Sega, but I assume it wasn't fixed for SNES either.

Just looked it up, that was a lot of molasses
Finally, the very episode I’ve been waiting for since I started watching you guys. Thank you.
You’re welcome
BRAVO!
I imagined you guys would get to "Shaq Fu" at some point in this series. I actually bought the Sega Genesis version a long time ago, haven't played it yet, but I can be prepared for some frustration and laughs.
Great episode guys. 😃
Glad you enjoyed it!
Oh hey, next ep is my suggestion! Frickin' sweet!
The snake bite had me rolling 🤣 🤣
Man, I love Magic Hat beer! I haven't had a #9 in so long. Oh yeah, great episode guys!
😄 *THANK YOU!!*
This is what I've been waiting for!
Thank you Guys!!
I'm glad you guys read my comment. 😄😄😄
You're welcome!
We like reading comments
@@ConsoleWars Okay, yes I like the Sega Genesis version better then the Super Nintendo of Shaq fu. 😁👍
Yay!!😄👏👏👏
@@SayumiYoshiki92 Yay!!!
Lots of hard work goes into what you guys do... It is good content that makes this channel hilarious.... Keep rocking
Thank you!
Great episode! I really enjoyed it and the ending was so funny! I love this videos, by the way! They are so good! Anyways, I’m excited for the next episode in the future! Bye for now!
Glad you enjoyed it!
@@ConsoleWarsNo problem!
Used to played this game for the Sega Genesis as a 90s kid. Great memories.
Always a good day when I see a new video from y'all.
I never played Shaq Fu but what I expected of it apparently is what it was. Bad. Great video tho!! You guys make really good content and I’m always happy to see anything new from Console Wars! ❤
Thank you!
UNDERRATED AF CHANNEL 😭😭
It blows my mind that someone made a fighting game with sprites so well animated but plays so poorly.
PAT, YOUR KUNG FU SOUND WHEN YOU PULLED OUT THE SNES GAME WAS FUNNY
Great episode. I need some comedy in my life right now.
Happy to help
Just what did the old man do with the SEGA and SNES Console War nerds in the backroom for two days…? Should I even be asking this? lol
BTW Congratulations on your 100th episode and Dan’s expecting of a newborn with Sam!
Funny thing is I use to work in the hotel not long ago that was built where the old St Guile's Brewery stood that caused the explosion which lead to the London Beer Flood. As a part of the concierge team I was telling the story of the Beer Flood all the time. Can't believe you mentioned that here.
Oh wow lol
The intro like always the best and glad to see a new episode😃😃
I'll wait for another "worst" fighting game comparison for the SNES and Genesis versions of Rise of the Robots
Wig at 5:53 looks surprisingly good...
Glad to see you both back! Suggestion for a future episode, dragon Bruce Lee story SNES Vs mega drive! Heres hoping you reach 100k subs soon 😀
they did that one
No we didn't
my mistake. my memory was of another youtube channel
Bruce Lee, The Dragon Story is a pretty decent game. The Atari Jaguar version is the best one by far, though. It would be cool to see them do the SNES vs Genesis versions.
Can you do Zelda Clones such as StarTropics on Nintendo vs Golden Axe Warriors on Sega please?
Whenever Sega say "thats it" it remind me of the pigeon from animaniacs
Great show. Love it.
true
I agree 100%. It's not a great game by any stretch of the imagination, but it is also not the raging dumpster fire that so many people make it out to be.
There used to be channels dedicated to finding every copy of shaq fu and destroying them😂😂
why
@@ConsoleWars I'm guessing it's because there were people who thought the game was that bad.
There were some games i thought were pretty bad.
Nothing to make me go on a
cartidge rampage though🤣🤣
I legit got jump scared by that intro lol.
Also wow i didn't even know this infamous game was released on the genesis, sheesh
What part of the intro?
Hey, Console Wars! How about you guys do a video on Fatal Fury 2 - Super Nintendo vs. Sega Genesis?
17:35 Pat shows off his Kung Fu.
Here's an extract from a Comment I made in another video of yours (forgot which one):
"You've done Episode plots about zombies, vampires and Frankenstein's Monster for past Halloween Episodes.
I figure doing a Episode about "Wolfchild" would be a good excuse to do a plot about werewolves."
Looks to me like you guys are actually following my suggestion! Thank you so much!
Man, I am so looking forward to the next Episode!
Seen you there! Laters!!
Glad you enjoyed the episode! Thanks for the kind words
Awesome episode... rofl!
Man, I really wonder how this game was SO broken and missing things on the SNES... must be a deadline thing...
Oh, and Wolfchild is the next episode! Nice!
THIS IS CONSOLE WAAAARRRRSSSS!
Konami presents…. A console wars exclusive. Written, edited, directed, by Dan. A Dan exclusive………… a film by Dan.
Thanks guys! Another amazing episode! Could you guys do Aero the Acro-Bat 1 and 2?
Acro-bat 1 is def in the list
@@ConsoleWars awesome! Looking forward to it!
Anyone remember when Arizona Ice Tea put out a Shaq Fu Punch? I remember it being pretty good.
Dude straight up shat the bed wearing an "Are we doing this?!" T-shirt.
1:35. Dude! You had me rolling with circuit city!! I remember that store!!
Congratulations Pat to the... victory? Sure, we'll go with that.
I know MULTIPLE fighting games that are worse than Shaq fu. Great video
I dare you to play Heavy Nova, lol!
i enjoyed beating that game several times. love it! @@tornadot2025
Really good episode guy’s. Thanks for all ways putting out good content.
WHAT??!!!....THAT'S IT!!!....ARE WE DO'N THIS!!!??
I still have my factory-sealed Clank-Fu.👍
I have the SEGA version and I’ve never really understood the hate for this game. When it comes to controls I’ve never been able to do any special moves anyway in any fighting games. I was one of those _Mortal Kombat_ or _Street Fighter_ players who just cheeses the duck/up-punch tactic out of desperation. I wasn’t able to beat it because that one old man at the gate would usually own my ass and run out of lives. I was able to sit there striving to get further in the story mode so I wasn’t hating on it ever.
Is the next episode _Wolfenstein?_
lol
Welcome back gentlemen! I have been missing yall doing these...to this very day I always to comparison between the Snes And Sega Genesis at least 4 to 5 times a day....lol
I suspect the reason the Genesis version was better was because the French developers preferred the MegaDrive, which was much more popular in Europe
Oh snap! Wolf Child next episode!
Usually if a game was significant enough to release on the SNES and Genesis I’ve heard of it, but Wolfchild I had to look up.
Could you guys make a video focusing on Nintendo Controllers VS Sega Controllers? I'd love to see a video that focuses on the hardware. And you could cover more systems
15:34 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Im know what the next episode will be on: Wolfchild.
And my requests for you:
Pac-Man 2: The New Adventures
Bart vs. The Space Mutants (NES vs. SMS)
Virtual Bart
Krusty’s Super Fun House
Pinocchio
Bonkers
Maui Mallard in Cold Shadow
Chuck Rock II: Son of Chuck
Mega Man: The Wily Wars (Genesis) vs. Mega Man 7 (SNES)
The Flintstones (Genesis) vs. The Flintstones: Treasure of Sierra Madrock (SNES)
Pitfall: The Mayan Adventure
The Incredible Crash Dummies
no Chuck Rock II for the S.N.E.S.
FIRST OF ALL:
i was watching this on my TV last night around 3 am, so couldn't comment, just made a like.
Such a good video, i just love the energy and the effort in the sketches and those insane ideas u guys come up with , like that unlucky programmer, who do u come up with such jokes is beyond me.
also, those ''foods'' reminded me of that Indiana jones an the temple of doom.
as for the game, i never got the hate, sure it is bad, but the worst game ever ?
adn guess what ? i have it on GAME GEAR, still do matter of fact, sadly no SNES version for me, but at least i have a version of it.
also the next hint, couldn't solve it, but whatever it is, i am sure i will have the time of ,my life watching u awesome guys.
Keep up the good work and know that ur videos are among my favorite on youtube.
As always, thanks for the kind words!
One reason I love emulation... You can fix the screwy horizontally-stretched SNES aspect ratio for games that need it (most of the library, actually). On RetroArch, you can even save the aspect ratio for specific games and not have to switch back and forth when you play a different game.
Dont sleep on the sequel. Its actually pretty fun! I have a soft spot for Shaq Fu. Its not great but its got a certain charm.
Really? Might have to check it out
@@ConsoleWars dude, it's so ridiculous! It's a pretty repetitive beat me up but it's got Shaq music from Shaq Diesel playing in the background, a very humourous script and a special Barack Obama parody version too where you play as Obama. It's super fun.
I get there are Roommate, but Bedmate? Perhaps They can’t afford two Beds.
Can you afford 2 beds?
Beds cost a lot of money. I only sleep one bed.@@ConsoleWars
Amazing show guys!
Never unionize.
You write better than anything else
NBA Star with his own rap album, movies and videogame. Shaq was trying to be his own brand, very outside the box and good for him.
🎶 Everybody plays the fu, sometime, there’s no exception to the rule. 🎶
I don't care what anyone says, the Genesis version of this was a good game and I played the hell out of it when I was a kid.
An odd quirk about this game is that it was designed for PAL formats as 50 Hz and not adjusted for NTSC's 60 Hz. This means it runs about 1/6 faster than intended. At least for Sega, but I assume it wasn't fixed for SNES either.
I LIKE U GUYS I GET KICK OUT THE RAMBLING BACKS FORTH GIVE ME COUPLE OF LAUGHS AND YOUR VIDEO'S ARE WELL DONE KEEP MAKING THOSE VIDEOS GUYS CAUSE YOU !ARE DOING GREAT!
Delphine Software in the 90's: "This is terrible, we have to create a cinematic adventure game. What a niche genre, it'll surely flop. Oh well, we have to think positive, this is just to fund our next game, a passion project that will combine two things everyone loves: basketball and fighting games. Now that'll be one for the history books, I'm certain!"
Could've been a good skit lol
