As a therapist I'd love to get your take on the album from Linkin Park album One More Light and the title song where it sounds like Chester was saying goodbye. The entire album for me sounds like a cry for help. After his friend Chris Cornel took his own life Chester seemed to struggle with the loss.
Linkin Park was there for alot of people going through mental health issues and depression. Their music was what got me through some really tough times. RIP Chester, you saved so many lives and we couldn't save yours.
@@Godless-Being maybe by seeing the pain it causes to loose people we love, will prevent some to not take that route. Yeah I would like to. I’m going to see how people respond to this one first. I have so little time and so many reactions to do that I’m trying to do what people actually want to see.
Be sure to look for live versions of their music as well. There are some amazing performances out there and the way they can get a crowd going is a sight to see. Chester 😢
@@Connection_through_Reaction I'm struggling with the singer that was added (I'll never say replaced or standing in big shoes, cause that's just not fair to *anyone* as there is but 1 Chester). I don't know how songs about mental health is going to work coming from someone that was raised in and is still in an Organization that goes against everything Chester fought while he was with us. My own thoughts and opinions. As a survivor, I can't get past harassment and intimidation of victims 💔😢..... This is a rough one!!!
I mean, most songs are written to be able to relate to, struggling with depression/suicidal thoughts isn't really uncommon, makes sense that people would relate.
The majority of Linkin Park deals with heavier topics, frequently in ways very relatable to people suffering from mental illness. On the top of my head, "Papercut", "Crawling", "Breaking The Habit", "Easier To Run", and "Given Up" immediately comes to mind. I'd recommend watching the performance of "Crawling" from the One More Light tour, you can really see the deep emotional connection between the lead singer Chester and the fans as they perform that beautiful song. Chester was such a master of vocally expressing emotion across such a wide spectrum, amazing talent ❤
9:53 Yeah... Chester had a way with holding extremely long vocal expressions, most famously, Given Up's "17 Second Scream", seen best with the Live performance in Clarkston 2007. The sheer expression of his pain and turmoil was just incredible. I also recommend Breaking the Habit, also live. iTunes Festival 2011 for just an incredible and emotive performance, or Birmingham 2017 for his last performance, before he ended his own story all too soon. Chester's entire discography was simply cries for help that never truly came.
The part you didnt know the term for would be the bridge. And if you look into more of Chester's music, you'll see the line "sing like an angel, scream like a demon" a whole lot.
To me, this song speaks to the feeling you have when you've been in a relationship with a narcissist--the futility of trying to please them, trying to trust them. As with the vocals you brought up at 11:15, when you come out of that relationship you are at first sad about the failure and the loss, and then later angry as you realize that they never really cared about you. And "you wouldn't even recognize me anymore" because a person cannot come out of such a relationship & move forward without being fundamentally transformed in some way.
Hybrid Theory was so important to me. it was in my car’s tape player permanently for about 5 years during and after a relationship with a narcissist. This song and Pushing me Away really resonated and I could scream along to them, and get all my frustration out. Very therapeutic
Chester made us all feel seen and heard when we were younger. His voice held the pain of a generation of lost youths and tortured teenage souls. Now people are realizing that his music was a cry for help and he was struggling so much. It's so sad it just breaks my heart. I miss him so much. Thank God we still have his music but man it really hits different now knowing what happened. RIP Chester. We all loved you and connected to you so much.
Chester ment so much to so many of us that suffered during childhood and with the subsequent depression and mental health issues that it leaves you with. He put my thoughts and feelings into words and they matched it with fabulous music. I will miss chester for as long as i live, and pray he has found the peace he needed and deserved, but so wish he was still here 😢
Always keep in mind when interpreting Linkin Park's lyrics, that the majority of the lyrics were written by Mike, the Emcee and producer of the band, rather than by Chester, the lead singer. Because people are now aware of Chester's mental health struggles, and the deeply emotional intelligence of Mike's lyrics, a lot of people sort of put two and two together and get 5, and assume the deeply emotional lyrics were written by the person singing them with equal emotional depth. This song was written by Mike when he was starting to feel like the years of work he'd been putting into the band would all be for nothing. They'd been an underground band for more than 4 years and he was feeling like they were never going to make it as a band. Ironically it was this song that made them a worldwide hit.
Chester was the best! He saved so many lives, mine included. The world isn't the same without him. He succumbed to his demons sadly. And after he gelped so many! And no, this xame out over 30 years ago lol. About 23 ish. Great video man.
The band is fantastic and 7 years after Chester lost his battle with his demons they are attempting to start again with a new lead singer. So many of their songs reflected his battle with mental health and helped(helps)so many people. Tragically on the anniversary of his friend's sui*ide he followed him. Other songs to try. Chester passed away on Chris Cornell's birthday July 20, 2017. Chris passed away on May 18, 2017. Gotta say those two wrenched my heart badly, I had Chris' songs before Andrew Wood passed. Got me through a lot of hell during my school years.
@AngB517 My bad I should have looked it up myself. I had heard it was on the anniversary. So tragic for all that loved them both and for the music as well.
The line “I wasted it all just to watch you go” hits REALLY! hard for me cause when I was a Sophomore in high school there was this girl, I had a huge crush on and she sat next to me that entire year for abt 6 month. She eventually switched out of that class, but the entire time she sat next to me she sometimes would try to talk to me and stuff, but I’d always blow her off cause of how shy I was and I’d put off saying something to her because I figured, I’d see her the next day, until I didn’t, because eventually she switched out of my class, and I felt so bad abt how I had this great opportunity to become a part of her life, and “I wasted all of that time” I had to get to know her “just to watch her go”, and my junior year every time I’d see her in the hallway (which was like once a month) I’d always feel so mad at myself and I truly developed self hatred and guilt, and I remember when she left for college at the end of my junior year. I listened to In The End and I thought back to that, and this song really helped me get over that hatred towards myself and now I’m a senior and it’s been a few months since she left for college but I feel a lot better abt it now, but that memory and this song taught me a HUUUGE lesson.
When this Song cames out in 2001, I was 17 and for all these people, who was in this age. Linkin Park were spoken deep down from our heart. Sounds weard, if you read it, but for the most part it was true.

Just subscribed because I would love for you to react to more Linkin Park songs. Especially from their first Ablum as it is my favorite. They deal with so many important mental health issues and really got me through my teenage years.
I wish that people like Chester, tWitch, Robin Williams knew what that meant to those of us who struggle with depression. Each one so different than the other but pulled us through difficult times. You just know Chester feels what we are feeling.
I do this at karaoke, I do Chester, and yes, that note is crazy long.. I would want you to do a reaction to Linking Park One more light, which is the last song before he killed himself.. and no one saw it coming, really. Do not try without tissues

YES Linkin Park. One of the bands that got me into harder rock and metal. Loved their music since their debut album was released. More from them would be awesome. Songs like Numb, Crawling, One More Light, One Step Closer are incredible! They got many more bangers. So just pick one, you can't go wrong with Linkin Park.
Great reaction, Linkin Park is my favorite band and Chester was a brilliant singer, you should definitely deep dive into more LP songs, when you know what happened to Chester you start to realize what the lyrics are about
This song does refer to a relationship but when Chester says “I’ve put my trust in you, pushed as far as I can go, for all this there’s only one thing you should know” others say it reference his childhood friend that took advantage of him that SA’d him.
Very interesting to see you analyze the meaning of both the lyrics and the video. Linkin Park really does hit hard on the mental health stuff. Thanks for sharing!

with a couple tours and after a couple of albums under her belt its very possible the new generation will want emily's vocals over chesters going forward, the songs she seems to have trouble with will probably get better for older fans but there will always be an empty gap feeling, just depends how her lyrics hit the right cords with new linkin park fans and you already know the way mike constructs his music and with powerful lyrics its def possible this works and opens the doors for a whole new set of diehard LP fans
Just subbed! Would love to see more Linkin Park reactions. I started listening to them before I was even a teen and their music helped me process and get through so many dark experiences in my life. From a mental health perspective, this band would definitely be worth diving into. I think the singer, Chester (R.I.P), does a consistently incredible job at emoting through his vocals, in a way that really captures and moves people.
I relate to Chester and the songs so much. I think only those who suffered severe abuse as kids can really get the depth of his words. I miss him so much he was my mirror and the songs keep me alive.
I am watching this for the first time. I am a huge linkin park fan. The part were he is saying about wast time to watch you go. Is actually about Chester and his past. He had a bad relationship with his father... and this song was just him telling his dad. Tht he is so trapped and he has wasted so much time hoping that his father would just say sorry.
i've listened to this song so many times but never caught on a lot of these details, your insights are great! would love to see you reacting to more linkin park songs :)
I am looking at the other screen and all I hear is: "The sun coming out, he realizes it doesn't even matter. There's BUTTERFLIES! There's.... a.... flying... whale? ...it's beautiful"
“What h it fly by as the pendulum swings” is about your feeling of alienation from control of your own life. No matter what you do that pendulum will continue to move and there’s nothing you can do about it. So at a certain point it all seems hopeless. Your feelings, your interpretations, your emotions, your wants , your needs , your goals are all of zero consequence.
I was listening them back then, when I was 15 and felt lost. Now I made it to my thirties, and am returning to them every time it becomes too hard. There is something in them. Comforting. Like I wrote it myself. Like somebody just took out all of that from my head, so it could be a little bit lighter. And there is something soothing in the music too, despite all the screaming and such.
whenever i listen to linkin park, i get full body goosebumps to my scalp. chester has an amazing voice and i relate to a lot of their songs. you should also check out a place for my head or forgotten
When I’ve had a difficult/draining shift at work, i put on Linkin Park in the car on my way back home and belt along…Don’t know what it looks like for the world around me but it makes me feel a whole lot better. Can you please react to Numb by Linkin Park? Have a wonderful day!
I giggled so much when you mentioned my name and you did not pronounc like Princess Diana, thank you for that. Because of bulling in the past with this name I really appreciate it. I felt so honored and as always I really liked your interpretation of the song. With my ADHD I really felt this "I tried so hard and get so far, but it doesn't really matter" always hit me. Because it is a daily struggle with trying to function in a world that isn't made for me. Especially jobwise. Nice job Stuart! Can't wait for more!
Oh and you might like the new LP Song with a plot twist ;) It is called the Emptiness Machine and was just released. They are going on tour again! Would love to see your reaction on this!
Something to keep in mind, Chester didn't write most of the songs, Mike did. Or they wrote them together, including this song. But yeah, maybe Mike was empathizing with Chester and subconsciously wrote songs about him.
In the end all the crap you accumulate in life doesnt matter, what you do while you here is your legacy , he left an amazing legacy , we love you Chester .....
Lincoln Park music helped me so much when I came back from Afghanistan, I don't think I would have made it without them. They just knew and it was not something I could even attempt to explain to anyone. I don't think this song was about a relationship in the way you do, it is about an abuser and a victim.
Linkin park has been great for anyone whos hit hard times, however the trouble (At least for those looking for something specific like this video) is that more often than not (at least in the Chester Bennington era of the band) is that the meanings arent exactly linear, theyre the morphing of perspectives and stories chester and mike each had, all revolving around a given feeling (the given song)
I honestly fought how on earth did you miss that song in the last 20 years. But then you immediately said it was familiar, which just makes sense haha :)
Actually the video was shot 23 years ago (2001) while the single was released 2000. It got onto TH-cam around 2007 then re-uploaded first in 2009 and a further time later. I guess in 2009 you’d have to wipe the plate clean in re-upload and the last upload just inherits the viewer stats.hence the 2009 time stamp you see. On the one hand, it was early 2000, everyone was going overboard with CGI, so I guess take it with a pinch of salt; on the other hand, their videos are always co-directed by Joe Hahn their DJ, so the imagines would relate to creative intentions of the band. Apparently this one is inspired by Princess Mononoke the studio Ghibli film.
This album (hybridtheory) was the first I ever bought. I wad in high school and it was everywhere, for good reason.. incidentally, I left it in the cd player in the music room for less than 30 minutes and it was gone 😂
Their songs touch in a very special way and helped a lot of people (including me) through rough times and still do until today (at least for me and I'm 41) 🫶🏻 "Given up", "One more light", "Leave out all the rest" and "Numb" too, are just examples of really heartwrenching ones by them 😢 But you simply can't go wrong with any LP song 🙏🏼
Would be really interesting to hear your take on “Good things go” in their new album “From Zero”. It is the first time they release new new material since Chester Bennington’s suicide in 2017 with a new lineup. Also, whole heartedly recommend “Post Traumatic” by Mike Shinoda (the rapper’s sole project responding to Bennington’s death. They were really close, like brothers). P.S. regarding the new new, Linkin had released some never heard before pre-2017 material as two singles.

I relate to Chester and the songs so much. I think only those who suffered severe abuse as kids can really get the depth of his words. I miss him so much he was my mirror and the songs keep me alive.
I listened to the entire album "a thousand suns" while gardening the other day.
Cried so much because I could see myself in all the songs
I am watching this for the first time. I am a huge linkin park fan. The part were he is saying about wast time to watch you go. Is actually about Chester and his past. He had a bad relationship with his father... and this song was just him telling his dad. Tht he is so trapped and he has wasted so much time hoping that his father would just say sorry.
i've listened to this song so many times but never caught on a lot of these details, your insights are great! would love to see you reacting to more linkin park songs :)
Listen to one more light
I am looking at the other screen and all I hear is:
"The sun coming out, he realizes it doesn't even matter.
There's BUTTERFLIES! There's.... a.... flying... whale?
...it's beautiful"
I hope you will do more reactions on linkin park! They were amazing and touched many many hearts!
You should react to given up, numb and Breaking the habit too! I really enjoyed watching you react to this masterpiece❤️
if you want to see how high Chester's voice can go
"let down" from a side band he did called "dead by sunrise"
Material things will come and go. Happiness is key to each and everyday. Life is short so enjoy what you can.
Crawling the official video ❤🎉
what i love abt linkin park is no love song ,they made songs that talks abt reality that really happened ,not some kind of fantasy love song
welcome to the rabbit hole of linkin park. you will learn to love them
I was listening them back then, when I was 15 and felt lost.
RIP Chester. We all love you man! Miss you forever...
I need to see a therapist's take on Given Up. That song fucking hurts after Chester's suicide
Same
Do one more light by linkin park pls
Something to keep in mind, Chester didn't write most of the songs, Mike did. Or they wrote them together, including this song.
But yeah, maybe Mike was empathizing with Chester and subconsciously wrote songs about him.
In the end all the crap you accumulate in life doesnt matter, what you do while you here is your legacy , he left an amazing legacy , we love you Chester .....
"How long the singer was holding that note for" bro you need to listen to Given Up
shadow of day i think should be the next one you watch
the music video is up there with lost in the echo and from the inside
Lincoln Park music helped me so much when I came back from Afghanistan, I don't think I would have made it without them. They just knew and it was not something I could even attempt to explain to anyone. I don't think this song was about a relationship in the way you do, it is about an abuser and a victim.
That part of a song is called the bridge.
I highly recommend Numb and Breaking the Habit.
RIP Chester!❤
Apparently this one is inspired by Princess Mononoke the studio Ghibli film.
best linkin park song ever
RIP Chester
Ill keep saying that LP created CGI and push all in next level !Best MTV song clip change my mind !
This album (hybridtheory) was the first I ever bought. I wad in high school and it was everywhere, for good reason.. incidentally, I left it in the cd player in the music room for less than 30 minutes and it was gone 😂
It may be worth the time for you to react to Given Up by Linkin Park. But, towards the end of the LP rabbit hole.
He hold us up. ❤
Their songs touch in a very special way and helped a lot of people (including me) through rough times and still do until today (at least for me and I'm 41) 🫶🏻
"Given up", "One more light", "Leave out all the rest" and "Numb" too, are just examples of really heartwrenching ones by them 😢
But you simply can't go wrong with any LP song 🙏🏼
It will be heresy for you not to go down this rabbit hole. Be touched like the rest of us!!!
Surprised that I don't see these songs mentioned but:
Castle of Glass
Powerless
Would be really interesting to hear your take on “Good things go” in their new album “From Zero”. It is the first time they release new new material since Chester Bennington’s suicide in 2017 with a new lineup.
Also, whole heartedly recommend “Post Traumatic” by Mike Shinoda (the rapper’s sole project responding to Bennington’s death. They were really close, like brothers).
P.S. regarding the new new, Linkin had released some never heard before pre-2017 material as two singles.
Imagine you never heard in the end even though you were alive at this point
If you haven’t done it yet you should do Growing Sideways by Noah Kahan and Burden by Citizen Soldier! I love to see therapist react and bring their perspectives!!
Maybe you can react to the song And One from Linkin Park.
Do given up by them pleasee
RIP Chester 💔
Numb from linkin park would be great to react to
Chester 💔
You should really check out one more light
@Therapist Reacts have you listened to Johnny Cashs video of Hurt?
Not yet but it gets requested often so will check it out quite soon
Never ever first time you heard this
The part you couldn't name that came between the two final chorus' is a bridge.
In the beginning of the video Chester gets behind the mask. We all wear masks
