That humble nature... Is why they stuck around for so long... Great, down to earth people... And look at the stars now...most of them are arrogant and snobby
This, one million percent. I fucking love this guy. I was emotionally connected to Linkin Park when I first heard of them in 2001. Much like when I first heard of Carcass - you just knew these guys had it. They just had it - that relentless desire to grow as musicians, and never making the mistake of sounding the same. Ever since then, I've loved them.
I think most of that stuff Mike talked about is Teen culture, yes, that's what would happen in schools or colleges and this sort of music would get hate. But if you're a rock/alternate fan, a Linkin Park fan, their music never gets old. Their style is revolutionary. it's a genre of its own I honestly liked their new stuff, but at the time I was surely dissapointed that not one song was a rock or alternate song. In this video, Mike has this beautiful light in his eyes that he doesn't have anymore. I haven't seen him smile like this since Chester died. We love you, Mike! R.I.P. Chester and Chris
Dude, you don't even know how much you pumped us up in the Army, how we cranked you up in the barracks, you were a huge part of our lives, and still are.
What is sad is that, this video was made a few months before Chester's death, and, It is really sad how they were just joking and smiling without knowing what would come in the same year. I hope you're good on wherever you are, Bennington, thanks for singing for us even after everything you went through.
It's now 2020 and i would put Linkin Park music against ANYTHING today. That girl who said that she hates on L.P because her friends do is a AIRHEAD and that is what's wrong with kids today (speaking as a 54 year old man) clueless sheep that are scared of individuality .
Man, seeing this and how happy Mike is and excited for their new album and the future of Linkin Park knowing what happens is honestly so heartbreaking.
He's been my hero for 20+ years for a reason! I've met him several times and he's SO sweet and funny! At a Fort Minor concert, he confessed to us that he was nervous and asked us to hang out for a little more. I admire him so much for his talent and humility!
Mike's being way too harsh on himself. This music was great in the mid 2000s and still is great today. As well their music is written and produced so well and articulately every song speaks on some sort of topic that is embedded in society today.
Mike is a LEGEND. Seeing him act like a normal simple human makes me rethink life and wanting to give him a hug so bad. Bro your music literally saved my life in dark times of me growing up and feeling depressed af. It was epic and it STILL IS epic! Thank you for existing. RIP Chester :(
Same, i remember Linkin park from the radio, since it was different from all the other mainstream songs. When i grew up older, i started to understand the lyrics and just the emotional delivery, you can feel every emotion..

Mike Shinoda is one of the most humble human beings in the world. I've been a fan of Linkin Park since Hybrid Theory, and I won't give that up now. Keep up the good work gentlemen.
Ruhil Rosly This guy says in the end in 2000s is good but now it's embarrassing?? Well I'll tell you Mike.. you might not know but the roaring guitars of crawling, one step closer, papercut still echoes and you're ignoring that..
Wow he was so humble and took this with a grain of salt. What a good sport. How many bands do you think would be that cool with potentially being roasted and embarrassed?
Watching this video in 2024 realising that this was released almost precisely 2 months before we lost Chester is making me so emotional right now and the fact that 19th may was when One More Light got released and exactly 2 months later the entire fandom was devastated. Damn, I'm gonna cry now!
I strongly disagree with Mike about how their older music wouldn't work today. my son is 7 and heard "crawling" on the radio about 3 years ago while we were driving and really liked it, so I broke out "hybrid theory" and "meteora" for him to listen to in the car and today he says "Linkin park" is his favorite band. He's listened to the entire LP catalog and usually sticks to the first 3 albums and enjoys a few songs from "a thousand suns" and "living things" but when I took him to buy the new album, he played it and said it didn't sound like them. He still tries to listen to it but you can tell its not as appealing to him. good music is timeless and LP made some timeless songs that will live on. a good example of that is "the doors" because they experimented quite a lot but still kept their signature sound to where if you heard a song you would know it was them. LP has completely abandoned their signature sound on this new album.
Linkin park did go back to their roots in the hunting party. Did your son enjoy that album? That was the closest to the original stuff. I think Chester and the band wanted to know what it would be like to do a modernized hybrid theory and so the result was the hunting party. Just remember this sound will only be for this album, next album will be different:)
I chose not to let him listen to the hunting party because of the vaulger language. the initial reason why i allowed him to listen to LP was based on the fact that they didn't swear on their first 2 albums and seemed appropriate. in my own opinion, that album was an attempt to recreate the hybrid theory sound and it came out very stripped down and scattered. I couldn't really get into any song off the entire album.
further more, in no way do i feel like the hunter party was a modernized hybrid theory album. what's modern today sounds nothing like that. yes, there was screaming and more heavy guitars but it was more punk rock than anything. I would say "living things" is a more modern hybrid theory as it uses elements from modern day music but still keeps the same vocal format that LP uses.
@@dylanwagher7213 i became a LP fan less than one year ago, after listening to In the End (YT recommended), and I liked it so much, even though I didn't and still don't know ANYONE (relatives, friends...) who likes this genre so much
I can totally understand what he's saying but saying that is like if you ate McDonalds all the time 20 years ago it could be stale and you could change your diet entirely making the old stuff taste disgusting. I used to listen to them everyday on the bus ride to middle school for 2 years and never got tired of them. Now that I'm older it does feel a bit weird to listen and be reminded of those thoughts but I won't deny that they are absolute bangers. If they released new stuff that were similar to the 2000s I would be pretty fast to jump on it though cause I'd consider it fresh since an album like it has been released.
My daughter grew up listening to LP from me, now she is 24 with a 2 year old son (my grandson) and I already have him listening. I am glad they have been releasing “new” songs for us all to hear. RIP Chester!😢
“This in 2017 is embarrassing” Naaaaah, It’s 2022 & at 38 I still blast all these relatable masterpieces out when I’m in my car. LP songs always hit me hard in the feels back in the day, but my God, knowing how things ended they hit me even harder now. Nothing will ever come close to the realness these guys put out, & I’mma bet no band saved as many lives as they did with their music either, on my darkest days I’m beyond grateful to them. Pure legends!
Sad part #2: this video was released hours before Chris Cornell's suicide, one of Chester's best friends. Cornell's death ultimately pushed Chester to the same fate.
I think Mike was just dying inside when he saw their reaction to Heavy. Can safely say the people who were really negative about One More Light indirectly killed Chester
@@ligmaballs2022 despite their sound differences in their music in that album, the theme is always the same to me IMO n i loved almost every song they put out. i remember how much hate heavy got when it first came out, comparing that song to justin bieber n taylor swift collab. like bruh.....
@@gitrickt8105 One More Light was the first LP album I bought, knowing that Chester passed a few months prior, and I thought it was great. The hate was totally unjustified in my opinion
There's pretty much no one that hates on linkin park. Some people hate the "newer" (everything since and including minutes to midnight) music, but virtually no one hates the band
In Nickelback's defense people didn't hate on them when the were big the hate has only come thru hindsight, they r kinda in the boat as limp Bizkit with the hate later in their careers.

Man, seeing this and how happy Mike is and excited for their new album and the future of Linkin Park knowing what happens is honestly so heartbreaking.

Mike's being way too harsh on himself. This music was great in the mid 2000s and still is great today. As well their music is written and produced so well and articulately every song speaks on some sort of topic that is embedded in society today.
Seeing Mike criticize their early work is painful
Mike is a perfectionist
Mike is a LEGEND. Seeing him act like a normal simple human makes me rethink life and wanting to give him a hug so bad. Bro your music literally saved my life in dark times of me growing up and feeling depressed af. It was epic and it STILL IS epic! Thank you for existing. RIP Chester :(
Same, i remember Linkin park from the radio, since it was different from all the other mainstream songs. When i grew up older, i started to understand the lyrics and just the emotional delivery, you can feel every emotion..

Good music doesn’t have an expiration date. Look at the band Tool, their music still just as amazingly their old music

@@dylanwagher7213 i became a LP fan less than one year ago, after listening to In the End (YT recommended), and I liked it so much, even though I didn't and still don't know ANYONE (relatives, friends...) who likes this genre so much
He meant releasing this song, not about how this song feels now 🤦
I can totally understand what he's saying but saying that is like if you ate McDonalds all the time 20 years ago it could be stale and you could change your diet entirely making the old stuff taste disgusting.
I think bands like this should release an album like their old stuff to give us nostalgia. We could really use that right about now
