Nice video good to see my old home town again also. The passengers must have been well and truly snuggled up inside by looks ..no one hanging out the windows or doors.
G'day Dapto, It began sleeting shortly after this shunt to remarshal the locos. No passengers on this train, it was just the crew attendants. The big circle manoeuvre from Goulburn via Parkes to Dubbo. Shuttles for patrons were conducted upon arrival at Dubbo over a couple of days. The empty train then worked to Bathurst to perform shuttles. Finally the train returned to Orange where shuttles for patrons were performed. The empty train returned the big circle via Parkes back to Goulburn. Steve.
Hi Steve, Fantastic video, the Garratt sure put on a good show moving off with that long heavy train, excellent catch, would really like to see more of this beautiful loco working.
The diesels only seemed to be assisting themselves up the incline, with the Garratt taking most of the load. The gradient out of Orange yard is apparent in the trailing sequence.
G'day Russell, The train is being turned on the Orange East Fork triangle. The train had arrived into Orange with the Garratt facing south, plus with the silver crew cars on the north end. The grade is 1 in 50. The diesels are not assisting with much power as the train speed is restricted by the turnouts, plus speed boards. The train departing from the yard and entering the West Fork passing through two turnouts, being 25 kph. There is also a 10 kph speed board encountered over the level crossing entrance to East Fork loco. So, train speed must remain slow for most of the movement around the triangle. The Garratt is capable, with some wheel slip, of dragging the train up the 1 in 50. The diesels dragging the train around the East Fork and onto the UP Main. The Garratt then dragging the train down into the Loop at Orange. The diesels then navigating around the triangle LE to again face north. The train then departed to continue north to Dubbo, again with the diesels on the front. Steve
Nice work Steve! That was great to hear the two sets of drivers go in and out of sync with each other from the wheel slip! You were Johnny on the spot for sure on this one mate! Thanks for freezing the Brass Monkeys for us ..LOL Cheers Gregg.
Freezing wind? Yeah, Orange has to be one of the consistently coldest places in NSW. If there's a better sound than the whistles on some of those steam locos, I don't know what it is.

You got a great display by 6029 - but a pity you didn't zoom in at the start.
