Great video lots of memories. Double C Class in vintage VR colours at notch 8 making a meal of the combo. Great to see prairie wagons with no graffiti either. Those C Class the powering up the noise is gold. Cheers Louis 👍
Thanks for another interesting video. For years the V 56 was a mystery to me. Saw it listed in my VR to 62 book but despite living near Newport workshops I never saw it. Many years later found out why it was so elusive to me as we rarely travelled east of Flinders St. Now my friends raised in eastern suburbs are amazed at what I saw along the line from Williamstown in the 50s to 70s.
Nice video John it was nice seeing some of the smaller locomotives like the M class and the V class it was nice to see the E class as well there is not many videos of the E class.
Nice compilation John, especially the tangerine colour scheme a favourite along with classic VR. Liked "M" class, a unique loco that one. I remember having a cab ride in an "E" when I was a boy at Spencer Street and into the Yard.
Gas and Fuel buildings, T&G building, hardly any hight rise. Getting the train to West Footscray to see the footy. I miss old Melbourne, it was a better, gentler town.
I like the broad gauge Jet at the end (Adelaide-Melbourne via Ballarat Superfreighter). The TNT containers once belonged to Alltrans Express but these containers were acquired by TNT. TNT Railfast became TNT Contrans in 1991 but TNT Express was retained and after 1997 these containers started to disappear altogether. TNT is still around though.
Great video lots of memories.

Thanks John, yes the V was a bit of a mystery loco , always hiding away at the back of the workshops
Interesting seeing Jolimont Workshops, I worked there in my teens. Unitil I took the opportunity to move on.
I've never seen footage of V56 before. Thanks John
Same here never seen V56 expect at the museum
Did I hear a hint of the old recorded "Flinders Street, Flinders Street" lady at 7:50?

@John Phillips Aren't the interstate trains during the times this video takes place in standard gauge or broad gauge?
Both , Standard gauge to Sydney and broad gauge to Adelaide
