But it has a new glare feature that's amazing. And we shouldn't need a screen protector for a phone over 1000. I vote for bringing sapphire glass back. That was legit AF!
This old guy is with you, regardless of what type of glass is used, screen protector from day one. A waste of money? Maybe, but it's my device and I choose to do so.
@DivinityTribe143 I put on a screen protector no matter what cause I hate micro scratches and like the extra added protection. Glass is glass and it'll scratch at a level 6 with deeper grooved at a 7.
@dave_n8pu every device i ever had. I hate micro scratches and once I see them, I can't unsee them. So for peace of mind, I just throw on a screen protector and I cut my loss with the anti-glare coating
I saw that article too, the day after the return window for mine. Was pretty upset, until I did the slightest bit of thinking: "How long do oleophobic coatings on phones last?" so I did the work to google it and you can find that on any new phone, it only lasts 6 months to a year, 2 years if you are lucky. You can find articles from the past saying the same thing about older phones. This IS normal, even if it's a bit more pronounced due to the nature of a matte screen, articles like the ones we saw are both 1) from people who don't realize how normal this is and 2) timed appropriately to catch the buzz around the S24 because it's high marketing season and shopping for any phone at the moment is at its peak this time of year. NOT doing the basic level of thinking and research, and instead just posting more content only perpetuates misinformation and ignores things like: you get what you get if you don't use a screen protector, and if you want a matte screen that comes with its own unique cons, by the simple nature of how matte screens work. You can simply clean the screen properly and not just wipe it with a rag, then reapply an oleophobic coating if you want to have a matte screen and less fingerprints, or go with a screen protector, as you would have to do with any unprotected screen after a year or so of usage.
Rule 1 after buying a phone : Tpu case + tempered glass. Those insane repair costs of shattered back glass / display is not worth the stock aesthetics. Also every time you swap your tempered glass to a new one , its brand new visually + the cases keep the back and side from shattering / dents. After 3-4 years. If you eventually want to trade in. Remove the case , remove the temper glass , wipe it down with isopropyl alcohol and see the phone in almost out of the box mint condition.
Same, I got the matte privacy one so there's still no glare issue. Doesn't really degrade the visual look of the display for me and in some aspects makes it look better IMO. Yes 70$ but well worth it after seeing all of the display issues coming to light I am sure glad I've added protection from the start
I don't normally put screen protectors on my phone, but when Samsung mentioned there being a new anti glare coating I got flashbacks of when Apple first started using the oleophobic coating on theirs and how it was rubbing off in places, so I put a protector on this one. Boy am I glad I made that call. 😅
Hi I had the same problem with my S24U, approached the Samsung service team in Dubai and was told this cannot be covered under normal warranty and I didn't have Samsung Care. Luckily my display got damaged somehow internally and got it replaced under normal warranty. The next day I put the Samsung anti glare screen protector.
looks like it is certain batch of screen has this issue; i have no such issue on mine and i use as long as u are since day 1 of release i never put any screen protector on it and i always use alcohol swab to clean the phone every other day it does have fingerprint marks on it but not as obvious as yours with just a few taps on it, even direct under the light, it is quite vague
My S24U gets disgusting with rainbow-effect oil smudges. You cannot clean it with a microfiber cloth. You have to use alcohol wipes. Which takes more of Oleophobic coating off.
Just reapply a oleophobic coating. The coating wears down easily with use. I use a spigen screen protector with oleophobic coating. The coating wears off with 6 months of use. I replace the screen protector.
I got the pre-ordered the S24 Ultra and it's the first phone that I didn't want to put a screen protector on because it's glass is actually harder and less reflective than normal glass, and putting a protector on was a downgrade to me. I have no issues that you speak of here..
Like the vast majority, I use a tempered glass screen protector. The brand I use is Flolab, which is anti-reflective, fingerprint and scratch resistant, and has the perfect dimensions to cover the screen.
I was strictly a Samsung user for years, so I assumed that it's in the oleophobic coating nature to start going off after a while and that this was normal, until I used phones from other brands. I have been using the Xiaomi 14 Ultra for almost a year now and it still looks as brand as new. On the other hand, my Samsung phones after the 3rd or so months, the oleophobic coating above the fingerprint scanner, and on the part of the screen where I do most of my swiping, would be completely gone.
and for the people telling him to use a screen protector, well, they were made to protect phones from scratches and drops, not to protect the oleophobic coating! I for myself would never use a screen protector, first thing I do when I get a phone that has a pre installed protector is to take it off.
For S pen, just clean the tip, and it will no longer leave those marks on the clean display, it collect some dirt and oils from use on dirty display. I ran into a very simmilar situation on my S23 Ultra after 1,5-2 years of use. I dont have this weird shine. This is maybe because of the anti-reflective layer.
Thank You. The very same thing has been happening to my screen and I thought I was going crazy needing to clean every 5 minutes. It's very nasty and won't stay clean. It's almost impossible with this degrading screen to use the camera especially in sunny conditions. What does Samsung plan to do about this for 2025? I will be using a screen protector on the 2025.
Glad you shared this. I have been fighting this for a few months and even though it was bothering me I never thought it was a phone problem. Would be nice if Samsung offered a real fix.
Man, mine has been doing this lately...ever since I took off my screen protector (it cracked) I get random speckles on the screen out of nowhere...I'm wondering if it's cause by taking the screen protector off... possibly pulled off some of that layering!? 🤔
I guess it's because of the new anti reflective screen which makes smudges much more visible. Another thing that wears the oleophobic coating is wiping the display. The more you try to clean the display by wiping it, more the chances of oleophobic being wearing out. It also makes the screen feel less smooth. It's also possible that S24's oleophobic coating is wearing out earlier than usual. They should bring an anti reflective screen protector, I wouldn't want my original screen to wear out.
@AsifZed69 I knew about that but it's not made of glass, and I don't think it would last as long as regular tempered glass screen protector. Only good for scratches and reflection I guess.
@AsifZed69 i just use a regular screen protector. The glare doesn't really bother me and the anti glare doesn't have anything to do with why I bought the phone.
I don't understand why anyone would not put a scren protector on a phone; especially, how expensive phones are. Tempered glass screen protectors have saved a lot of my phones. I have gone through packs...😅
I've had a lot of phones that end up like this and its annoying. I wish screen replacement was so expensive or id just get a new screen. But i just use an anti glare screen protector.
