You can easily get a screen protector there before the phone gets there. 😂 Don't know why you're thinking that's the whole reason for it 😂
I was strictly a Samsung user for years, so I assumed that it's in the oleophobic coating nature to start going off after a while and that this was normal, until I used phones from other brands. I have been using the Xiaomi 14 Ultra for almost a year now and it still looks as brand as new. On the other hand, my Samsung phones after the 3rd or so months, the oleophobic coating above the fingerprint scanner, and on the part of the screen where I do most of my swiping, would be completely gone.
and for the people telling him to use a screen protector, well, they were made to protect phones from scratches and drops, not to protect the oleophobic coating! I for myself would never use a screen protector, first thing I do when I get a phone that has a pre installed protector is to take it off.
I don't normally put screen protectors on my phone, but when Samsung mentioned there being a new anti glare coating I got flashbacks of when Apple first started using the oleophobic coating on theirs and how it was rubbing off in places, so I put a protector on this one. Boy am I glad I made that call. 😅
I saw that article too, the day after the return window for mine. Was pretty upset, until I did the slightest bit of thinking: "How long do oleophobic coatings on phones last?" so I did the work to google it and you can find that on any new phone, it only lasts 6 months to a year, 2 years if you are lucky. You can find articles from the past saying the same thing about older phones. This IS normal, even if it's a bit more pronounced due to the nature of a matte screen, articles like the ones we saw are both 1) from people who don't realize how normal this is and 2) timed appropriately to catch the buzz around the S24 because it's high marketing season and shopping for any phone at the moment is at its peak this time of year. NOT doing the basic level of thinking and research, and instead just posting more content only perpetuates misinformation and ignores things like: you get what you get if you don't use a screen protector, and if you want a matte screen that comes with its own unique cons, by the simple nature of how matte screens work. You can simply clean the screen properly and not just wipe it with a rag, then reapply an oleophobic coating if you want to have a matte screen and less fingerprints, or go with a screen protector, as you would have to do with any unprotected screen after a year or so of usage.
You seem to be agreeing to both sides and I'm confused by your stance on this. 1) you're upset with the oleophobic coating of your S24 ultra, and 2) you believe this is normal oleophobic coating wear. I have a Note 8 from 2017, and I have used a screen protector only 1 year back in 2019. It's not a matter of the oleophobic coating wearing off, it's HOW much. It's not a matter of fingerprints and smudges, it's HOW much. It's not a matter of wiping the screen, it's HOW much effort you use to do that. It's clear to me that my Note 8 is far superior to the S24 Ultra. My guess is that Samsung has lowered the quality of the screen, cheaped out on the exact materials, and perhaps there is a thinner less-standard application of this oleophobic coating. Now these complaints don't even cover the additional flaw that the anti-reflective coating seems to show, which is the oily colorful tint on top of this excess fingerprint smudges. Again, it seems to absorb MORE fingerprint oils, and seems to retain the fingerprint smudges for far LONGER than before. Combine this with the fact that Samsung has been silent about this issue tells me one clear thing; that they don't want to bring any attention to this and want to quietly step away from this blunder. I think we might silently get some answers from Samsung about this, but only from the next iteration of their phones, the S25 ultra. It will be good to note If they fix it on the S25, and whether they actually address it, or if they don't fix it, then we'll have another entire year of ridiculing them over this. Jolly jolly can't wait Samsung!
I have had every Ultra phone since the S20 and have never experienced this problem. It is beyond frustrating. Tried a screen protector but they scratch. Samsung really screwed up with this one.

Never, ever, ever wipe your phone with isopropyl alcohol. Ever. It strips the protective coating on the screen, and the paint on the phone. Depending on your phone case, you can use it to clean the case, or accessories like a pop socket, but it should never touch your phone. Only use actual screen cleaner for electronics, and their microfiber cloths. OGs know all this... I mean even computer screens. Then there's canned air for cleaning charging port and other areas. And why on earth would you buy a tempered glass screen protector? It's expensive, offers no meaningful protection to the screen, causes the most issues with touch, will shatter when dropped (maybe giving you the notion that the scratch & water resistant phone screen would've cracked instead of that $30 "protector" wasn't on it), and impossible to clean. Not to mention the heating issues certain screen protectors and cases can cause with the phone. Just get a case that covers all buttons, has a lip raised above the screen on the corners (actually protecting the screen during drops), with material that is not flexible or capable of bouncing whatsoever. Most screens crack when the phone falls and the case bounces, causing it to rotate and land on the screen. Please don't give advice that could ruin people's phones.

Yes 70$ but well worth it after seeing all of the display issues coming to light I am sure glad I've added protection from the start
Glad you shared this. I have been fighting this for a few months and even though it was bothering me I never thought it was a phone problem. Would be nice if Samsung offered a real fix.
I don't know how no one else is talking about this.. My screen has been like this for a while now and this is the first video I've seen anybody talking about it. My screen is a mess because of this. I didn't put a screen protector on obviously but even now it seems like it's too late to do that because you can't clean the damn screen because of how it is right now to even put a screen protector on. I'll probably end up getting the new one when it comes out and then putting a screen protector on it right away.
Like the vast majority, I use a tempered glass screen protector. The brand I use is Flolab, which is anti-reflective, fingerprint and scratch resistant, and has the perfect dimensions to cover the screen.
I did see this topic before, and its new so I got a good screen protector immediately. Normally I would not as I'm very careful but this issue would drive me crazy so thanks for letting folks know 😊
Man, mine has been doing this lately...ever since I took off my screen protector (it cracked) I get random speckles on the screen out of nowhere...I'm wondering if it's cause by taking the screen protector off... possibly pulled off some of that layering!? 🤔
Great content. I'm getting my s24 ultra tomorrow. I've had a screen protector on my s23 ultra since the first day I got it. When I changed screen protectors, the screen looked like it just came out of the box. I'll do the same with the 24 ultra. I know it comes with the antiglare display. I will put on an antiglare screen protector.
2:12 Samsung should atleast INCREASE SCREEN WARRANTY to few years and same for MOTHERBOARD as these two are costly repairs. I have been hearing about these issues have increased significantly by Samsung community members posts. I don't care if it's manufacturing but they must incrsse warranty if they can't give better hardware. Samsung literally give better quality and reliable hardware to Apple and cheap out on it's own phones.😢
This is about s24u, a phone ! ...But my concern now is about the tab s10 ultra I just got ! 16 gb ram for future proofing. Also , Spen come with it is different than my s23 ultra. I have the pro S pen . It would be nice if you can totally trash my purchases for me . Just save me the time n aggravation.
For S pen, just clean the tip, and it will no longer leave those marks on the clean display, it collect some dirt and oils from use on dirty display. I ran into a very simmilar situation on my S23 Ultra after 1,5-2 years of use. I dont have this weird shine. This is maybe because of the anti-reflective layer.
Screen protector since day 1 on my S24 ultra. I'm using the samsung official screen protector, the flimsy plastic one that has the anti-glare feature. Sure it is not glass, but it is super thin so it's like it isn't there. I dropped my phone the other day on my roof, first time I dropped it in a while, and it lands face down. Surprisingly, the screen protector absorbed that really rough hit and my screen is still scratch-free thanks to it. Plus they sell them in 2-packs, but I got 4 free from preorder. Not to mention, the oleophobic coating is still all there. Please invest in a good screen protector, no reason not to
When I first got my s24 I put a Screen Protector on it. My question is; Will the Screen Protector stop that from happening as you were talking about that antiglare film wearing off?
I have never used any screen protector on any of my Samsung flagship devices over the years. My S23 Ultra and S21 Ultra have no sign of this issue (as have none of my devices). I have always used cleaning fluids with only mild natural ingredients to clean my device screens though, so as not to damage any coatings. Such cleaning agents are out there if people want to look for them. I won't give any brand names as I am not getting paid to advertise them. Amazon has a good choice of such screen cleaning fluids.
Thank You. The very same thing has been happening to my screen and I thought I was going crazy needing to clean every 5 minutes. It's very nasty and won't stay clean. It's almost impossible with this degrading screen to use the camera especially in sunny conditions. What does Samsung plan to do about this for 2025? I will be using a screen protector on the 2025.
Im glad people are starting noticing this absolute garbage thing because its the exact same problem on the S23 Ultra which you can barely use with a screen protector cause of the edges
Owner of the S24 Ultra for 4 months now, not have a screen protector or case. If little water drops dry out on the screen, you can't get them off with a dry microfibre cloth. You have to moisture it a little bit with only water, do not use any cleaning materials! It will ruin the anti fingerprint laier from the factory. I wipe the screen a lot to avoid the greasy fingerprint screen, still no scratches, and the S24 Ultra looks like new. Unlike my S23 Ultra from last year, that got micro scratches very early.
I've had a lot of phones that end up like this and its annoying. I wish screen replacement was so expensive or id just get a new screen. But i just use an anti glare screen protector.
I don't loke the phone a lot after using an lgv60 with a headphone jack but this is not a complaint I have for sure. Actually the screen not glaring is the biggest advantage over my old phone
well it's only been about a year, since the phone launched, so you may start noticing issues soon, however, even if you do, this is normal for all phone screens. you can find articles in the past about older phones with the same thing happening, and you can find in general oleophobic coatings only last about 6mo to a year, 2 if you're lucky. No one can complain about this issue if they run into it and don't either use a screen protector or apply new oleophobic coating every year or so.
My S23 had the same issue and so does my s24. It seems to be a huge issue that Samsung's coatings do not last. I love the phone but this is a huge gripe
I guess it's because of the new anti reflective screen which makes smudges much more visible. Another thing that wears the oleophobic coating is wiping the display. The more you try to clean the display by wiping it, more the chances of oleophobic being wearing out. It also makes the screen feel less smooth. It's also possible that S24's oleophobic coating is wearing out earlier than usual. They should bring an anti reflective screen protector, I wouldn't want my original screen to wear out.
@AsifZed69 I knew about that but it's not made of glass, and I don't think it would last as long as regular tempered glass screen protector. Only good for scratches and reflection I guess.
@AsifZed69 i just use a regular screen protector. The glare doesn't really bother me and the anti glare doesn't have anything to do with why I bought the phone.
I don't use my pen, but I have to wipe the smudges off all the time, & this has been the case since I first got my S24 Ultra. It was so costly, that I need to make this phone last. The smudge issue is annoying, but I try to wipe it off real often, without using a pen.
I don't understand why anyone would not put a scren protector on a phone; especially, how expensive phones are. Tempered glass screen protectors have saved a lot of my phones. I have gone through packs...😅
Always have a screen on my phones....and a case....I usually buy them before I get the phone 😂 When I sell them they look as if they've just come out of the box. Mind you I've seen disgusting ones where people don't ever clean their screen. Cool pen tho....I use a stylus myself at home....don't want to get smudges on the screen protector....no, not joking 😂
I don't get it; this review seems fishy. Did Samsung pay you for us to get or update to their next line-up? It has been 11 months, but why all of a sudden?
Same problems here ! And everyone of you will have the same issues if you usw the phone as it is intendet to use->without a screenprotector. It is a no go for me what samsung has done to a 1200€+ device.
This has been happening since the S22 Ultra/Note. Mine was a mess within 6 months. Samsung need to make the coating thicker & last at least 5 years. Saying put a screen protector on is giving Samsung a free pass. You shouldn't have to use a screen protector.
Hmm... Interesting. I don't have this issue; probably because I'm not a heavy pen user and when I tested it, I did see some marks but I had to look a little extra hard to notice... I think my screen protector might have something to do with it, too...
Just use the s pen then you dont get fingerprints or smudges. I always use the pen. This is no big deal and it also shows more smudge/fingerprints because it is antireflective and darker than the other screens.
Anyone has an unresponsive screen issue? At least 2 to 3 times a day I have to turn the screen on and off to get it to be responsive again. I haven't been able to find a trigger for it but it drives me crazy
It's amazing it's about a year never heard of this problem now all of a sudden that the new phone the s25 ultra it's about to drop now the s24 has problems
It's clear Samsung is being silent about this issue as to not bring anymore attention to this in anyway possible. The next question on everyone's mind is whether they are going to fix this for the Galaxy S25 ultra or not... It's going to be the same exact phone since it's too early to change the generation of the build. S25 was just supposed to be an incremental update, a linear spec boost of CPU/Ram/Cameras, but now Samsung has to RE-DO their display glass panel... will they do it? Will they ever take accountability for their blunder? Should I stay with Samsung? because at this point they are delivering Pixel level quality that I might as well go to Google.
Beats the hell outa every apple phone I see with cracked screens...I Mean like EVERYWHERE with every apple phone user I know!!! Where's THAT CONTENT BRUH?!
looks like it is certain batch of screen has this issue; i have no such issue on mine and i use as long as u are since day 1 of release i never put any screen protector on it and i always use alcohol swab to clean the phone every other day it does have fingerprint marks on it but not as obvious as yours with just a few taps on it, even direct under the light, it is quite vague
My S24U gets disgusting with rainbow-effect oil smudges. You cannot clean it with a microfiber cloth. You have to use alcohol wipes. Which takes more of Oleophobic coating off.
Do not use alcohol swabs to clean your screen - it's strips the protective coating on the screen completely. All the layers of coating, not just the oleophobic coating on the Ultras. Don't use alcohol swabs on the body of the phone either - it strips the paint. Just use actual screen cleaner with microfiber cloth made for electronics/touch screens. In a pinch you could use lens cleaner at the absolute most. And either buy a case or apply a skin. There's no reason you should be cleaning your phone daily either. Just treat it with care.
@@SuperYankeechickThat's because you stripped your screen's protective coating... And well, all of its coating entirely, by using alcohol swabs to "clean" it. This is what happens when the coating is stripped 🤦♀️

What is fast skin
that's why matte hydrogel screen protector exist
Glad you shared this. I have been fighting this for a few months and even though it was bothering me I never thought it was a phone problem.
Would be nice if Samsung offered a real fix.
Absolutely true.
Thanks for the update! Been reading about this issue online, and seems lots of people are experiencing this.
Normally I would not as I'm very careful but this issue would drive me crazy so thanks for letting folks know 😊
Does the antireflective layer still work with screen protector
Man, mine has been doing this lately...ever since I took off my screen protector (it cracked) I get random speckles on the screen out of nowhere...I'm wondering if it's cause by taking the screen protector off... possibly pulled off some of that layering!? 🤔
Mine runs like day 1 it's flawless and doesn't have this issue
Great content. I'm getting my s24 ultra tomorrow. I've had a screen protector on my s23 ultra since the first day I got it. When I changed screen protectors, the screen looked like it just came out of the box. I'll do the same with the 24 ultra. I know it comes with the antiglare display. I will put on an antiglare screen protector.
3.25 why would you compare 2 apples if you have samsungs there?
Great videos.
I also always have used screen protectors. Is matte supposed to replicate the S24 anti-glare? Never used a matte one.
There are also anti glare screen protectors.
Love your videos, I would love a video on the pros and cons of turning on the encryption feature.
My samsung sreen protector is being doing it,you think we get a replacement for it..?
Have you reached out to samsung before they drop the s25
Of all the problems with these screens, fingerprints are the most insignificant.
Not when you're paying 1200+€s for a phone. It's unacceptable.
I do agree that S24U over time have poor finger oil resistance, same with mine about half year in use.
Two words: Screen. Protector.
Hello i need help on what should i get samsung or apple ??? Which is much better in terms of long term used ?
Used both. Go for Apple
I use a tampered glass screen protector, easy to clean, had it on from day 1 , no issues at all
Mine started doing it after only a week, unacceptable.
Mine as well
I've had a lot of phones that end up like this and its annoying. I wish screen replacement was so expensive or id just get a new screen. But i just use an anti glare screen protector.
I always put my phone in a case with a screen protector on it
i dont use a screen protector, the anti glare worn out on the patch I use the most, its become a purple color patch under the light
It's about time somebdoy addressed this
Got since day one and never used a screen protector. Zero issues so far.
Same here, I have to clean it often tho, but that's not a big problem
My S23 had the same issue and so does my s24. It seems to be a huge issue that Samsung's coatings do not last. I love the phone but this is a huge gripe
Maybe I can find deals on s24's with this problem and I just remove the coating like I did on my Macbook and don't miss it.
I have used several Samsung phones back to the Note 10 and have never run into this issue 🤔
There's been an anti-reflective screen protector from Samsung since day one. People should have used that, just to protect against scratches.
Samsung s25 ultra may have this issue too with the screen? When it comes out😢
I absolutely hate that coating on the s24 Ultra. Why I use my Pixel 9 Pro XL most.
I've seen samsung are giving free screen replacements for this issue
Where and how
They say sunscreen also damage the coating
The s24 fe too?
I don't use my pen, but I have to wipe the smudges off all the time, & this has been the case since I first got my S24 Ultra. It was so costly, that I need to make this phone last. The smudge issue is annoying, but I try to wipe it off real often, without using a pen.
I don't understand why anyone would not put a scren protector on a phone; especially, how expensive phones are. Tempered glass screen protectors have saved a lot of my phones. I have gone through packs...😅
Weird flex 😐
Maybe because some people are not poor dumb bit h
because the screen looks bad with a screen protector on it it loses its antireflective quality which we payed money for.
@@flicka25 screen protector scratches and smudge easier
I don't get it; this review seems fishy. Did Samsung pay you for us to get or update to their next line-up?
It has been 11 months, but why all of a sudden?
Same problems here ! And everyone of you will have the same issues if you usw the phone as it is intendet to use->without a screenprotector. It is a no go for me what samsung has done to a 1200€+ device.
I noticed this on mine too. I thought I was tripping.
My S23 Ultra did the same thing at 10 months of use.
I got a protector on mine didnt know that the anti-glare display would cause this
This has been happening since the S22 Ultra/Note. Mine was a mess within 6 months. Samsung need to make the coating thicker & last at least 5 years.
Saying put a screen protector on is giving Samsung a free pass. You shouldn't have to use a screen protector.
mine is doing the same, hopefully samsung fixes this next year
I’m having the same issue on my S24 Ultra, I wish it was a better way to clean the screen
Have it since launch and no problemes here
Thank you Jimmy.
Honestly i always used a screen protecter since day 1 and i dont really care about the antireflective glass
I've had a glass screen protector since day one so I was never aware. Does look pretty nasty lol
Gracias...
Same issue with me. Went to service center and they didn't even acknowledged it as a problem. Scamsung scums.
I had to reapply the oleophobic coating.
Trading for s25u asap
Rather have sudges than a screen i can't see trough reflection
replace the tip of the s-pen with a harder one
I did check and didn't see tips. Maybe I misplaced them. I did try that. I'll look again
The same thing happens on glasses lenses.
You can get cheap oleophobic coating kits for pretty cheap.
Beats the hell outa every apple phone I see with cracked screens...I Mean like EVERYWHERE with every apple phone user I know!!! Where's THAT CONTENT BRUH?!
Just install a mat protector and you will forget for all about that :D
looks like it is certain batch of screen has this issue; i have no such issue on mine and i use as long as u are since day 1 of release
i never put any screen protector on it and i always use alcohol swab to clean the phone every other day
it does have fingerprint marks on it but not as obvious as yours with just a few taps on it, even direct under the light, it is quite vague
@@bluelittle366 same here
My S24U gets disgusting with rainbow-effect oil smudges.
@Living_Dead_Girrl No, alcohol wipes were the solution, not because of. Didn't start with the wipes until the problem started.
Thank you
I don't use a screen protector and have no issues at all
I never used a screen protector or a case! I love my S24 Ultra now that it has One UI 7! I have never had issues since owning the S24 Ultra on January 20, 2024.🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
My screens hold oils. It is annoying. The human skin has an oil layer of protection.
I put a matte screen protector on my s24 ultra the day I got it
I have the same issue on my 24ULTRA
So a $1300 phone with no screen protector you get marks on it
Can you help me 😅
Why more people don't start showing the problems with phones and technology with brands like Samsung and Apple? They are not the best. Phones like Xiaomi are much much better
YOU HAVE YOUR FIRST PHONES RIGHT NOW
Mine is all good!
Yep my s24+ doesnt an is great. My s24 ultra does do this. An the ultra is harder to clean. I almost need to use lens cleaner and a special wipe. I do actually do that. An I don't use a sreen protector.
