    I'll be honest here, Initially, I was not your greatest fan for bending the Nexus 6p. This tear down video could have been out a little earlier to justify the bending videos (you did it twice to prove your point and I really appreciate that).
    Since that video was out, I started watching every single video of yours too see what kind of a channel you are trying to showcase - and I won't deny it - you have honestly changed my perspective about blindly trusting brand and their advertising statements.
    Jerry, thank you for doing what you do. You will get haters (who doesn't?), but I completely understand what you are trying to show to the audience here and it takes a lot of money, time, patience and what not to do what you are doing. Hats off man... Thank you for removing that blindfold for me.

      +Ankur Gugar Exact same situation. What irritates me is that he is getting a lot of non justificated hate even when he is explaining and trying to get a comprensive point of view of why the phone bended / is not as good as it was believed to be, all this while being extremely polite and informative.

      +ant123ps3 I completely agree with your point. He has stayed calm and tried to justify his point and truth be told no one else would have put in so much effort to prove their point as much as +Jerry did.

      +Ankur Gugar agree 100%...other youtubers tried to bent this phone too, but without any effort, I saw one who tried to bend the phone with 2 fingers each side, and claiming that "the phone what jerry used it may be a prototype, or he already know where to bend the phone... because I didn't saw the huawei logo on the back(what an another youtuber said) " what was completely visible on it's back... Or other youtubers need to hit the gym a little bit, or their trying to defend their "best smartphone of 2015" for no matter what against real life facts

      Richard Rusinaru "They need to hit the gym" - ahahahahaha thats damn funny. But yah on a serious note, I have seen those videos too and I agree with what you said, it's just been hard for all the fans to digest the fact that a perfect company like Google, may not always be perfect.

    I have had this phone for almost two years now and used to really like it. It 'was' fast and it 'did' have a good battery life; now I am needing to replace my battery and my phone is much slower than it used to be. I am a fan of this phone and honestly, after using an iPhone for many years before my first android, I was hesitant, but now I absolutely love it and cant stand iOS.
    I spent some time working part time in a mobile repair store and got to know the guys working their. The one time we got a customer bringing this phone into the shop, it was a pain in the ass to repair. That said, almost all new phones are. Breaking the glass cover at the top is not a huge deal, buy a new one and replace it. (Honestly, buy an extra just in case if you are planning to repair your phone because the chances of it not breaking are very slim.)
    To all those hesitant about this phone and the 'false advertising' about the "full metal body"; this is a trick done by every company out there and to be honest, the average consumer (which is probably 90% of the viewers watching this) don't ever even notice the fact that they misdirected. Honestly, I kind of liked the plastic bits on the back, they add some texture. Different perspectives come in everything and the only reason this video is portraying it in a bad light is just due to the fact that Google/Huawei "false advertised" it.
    Otherwise great video, really informative and entertaining to!

    For removing glass, I recommend using an Xacto chisel. More surface area means the prying pressure is more evenly dispersed and thus a much lower chance of shattering the glass. Also. I *always* unplug the battery first when disassembling a phone/tablet. Even though the device is off, there's still current traveling through the parts.

  • @elvis985
    @elvis985 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    First thank you so much for this helpful video.
    I cracked today accidentally the display of my 7 days old 6P. The glass front is ok, but the amoled display has a few cracks and is totally white and bluish. So I decided to repair it on my own.
    As I saw on the video the main problem is to save the black glass bar of the camera and the plastic bar on the bottom while replacing them. I removed them successfully without any problems. I used a self made tool of an shaver blade and enough heat :). I ordered the screen with the frame because it's only 10$ more and it is a lot easier to change the whole frame.

    I have a Graphite Nexus 6P, built early November. While I agree that this phone is structurally weak, it does not stop me from loving the phone. It is easily the best phone I have ever had and used.

  • @michaeld5122
    @michaeld5122 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Those screws are stronger than you think. I forgot 2 of them at the bottom and was wondering why i couldn't pry the display off. I was giving it a lot of force with taking care not to bend and break the display or glass. Also, back camera glass comes off fairly easy with A LOT of heat from a hair dryer and an exacto blade. Work the point between glass and aluminum and start prying up while simultaneously pushed more blade surface under the glass. The more blade surface pushing the glass up will decrease chances of breaking.

    Whether you like it or not gotta say I am a huge fan of the design of the Nexus 6p. It appears to be very modular and relatively easy to repair. Nice video as usual. I do have a few questions. It looks like you slightly damaged the plastic metal piece that sure what it is on the bottom trying to get that open to get under the screws??? Is there anyway to get in there without damaging it because if not I would have to let customers know that that could be damaged. Also I wonder if there's a solution for the glass issue. Maybe a miniature suction cup? It just sucks you have to damage The housing in order to work on this phone.

    • @TechMDYoutube
      @TechMDYoutube 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Stupid thing won't let me edit it. One of the sentences that make any sense thanks Siri. Just seeing if there's anyway to open up the housing and without leaving any marks.

    • @JerryRigEverything
      @JerryRigEverything  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I thought about using a mini suction cup for the glass camera lens. But none that i have are strong enough. Maybe if you could fit 5 or so small suction cups on there... It might help. But it's glued *tight*. That bottom screw cover is plastic, so no matter how you touch it with the pry tool, it'll leave a little bit of a mark. Unfortunatly.

  • @XformNAN

    Jerry Rig, I say you have a 100/100 chance of getting the top visor glass off in one piece if you do it right. You just need to heat the glass up hot, then use a razor blade and apply it to the right side of the visor and gently work your way in. In that way, I never broke a single visor and I repaired 5 Nexus 6p so far. Actually, the Nexus 6p is a really easy phone to repair once you learn its trick. I also can take the back off very easily without damaging the plastic that goes around the phone. I just insert a sim card removing tool into a bottom screw hole to open a gap to pry open the phone's frame from the back. Now, I can open up a Nexus 6p really easily.

  • @benson733

    Agree it's sham that it's not a full metal design. However for how thin and fragile it seems, it tears down and holds up really well. I think overall it's a good design. The only thing I really don't like is the strong glue holding the battery down.

      Every new phone you buy will be the best ever if you update premium phones, that is the way tech works! I am sure if you buy the Samsung S7 with a CPU that will kill the 6p's that will be the best ever. The problem is that consumers are now seeing there is a reason why this is cheaper than the iPhone, it has structural faults, plastic instead of aluminium, softer metal, slower storage and RAM, etc. That will kill its second hand price especially for anyone who is worried about how the 810 will effect the phone in the long term (even with the drastic throttling). I would buy the Nexus 6 at nearly half the price of this, as I am not a camera buff, but the fingerprint scanner would be a loss. For most tasks the older nexus 6 is fine and it has proved to be very reliable and has updated well to Marshmallow.

      that's true... the metal and the aluminium are stopping the signal... I'm a Chief Technology Officer at a company that's making smartphone solution and we are using aluminium faraday cage to make directional antenna for the radio signals which include the bluetooth, wifi and the mobile network signal. So maybe this is the reason Hwauei made the plastic and glass parts of the back of the 6p... just to prevent the signal lost of the radio signals inside

    The 6P is an excellent phone. However, and I keep saying this time and time again, that in order for it to be priced so competitively, Huawei had to have cut corners somewhere. The cut corners are the build quality. Yes it uses metal for the outside, but from experience I can say it's pretty cheap feeling metal. It's still a great phone, but I feel like a lot of reviewers make the mistake of saying something has a great build quality, simply because it uses metal.

    • @JerryRigEverything
      @JerryRigEverything  8 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      +DrumNTech Very very valid. I believe 100% that its a good phone from a software perspective. Everyone who has used it seems to love it. But from a build perspective... it needs a lot of work. I'm going to use this matte gold phone for the next few weeks and try it out.

    I have this phone since november 2015 (around 8 months) and didn't had any issue with it until yesterday. The screen is coming out of the aluminium case and because I didn't bought it directly from Google, it's a pain in the ass for the warranty. They claim it's my fault (even if I was really careful with it... never sat on it, didn't put it in any skinny jeans or dropped it from any height), and physical accident ain't covered by Huawei. The phone still looks like new outside of fact that the screen that is now coming out of the frames because of bad design flaws.
    I really liked the Nexus 6P, but I can't stand behind a company that doesn't acknowledge the design flaws that the build have. On a side note Videotron didn't even want to replace it with the same model or any recent one as they don't have it in stock. The best they could offer me are refurbished LG G4 (somewhat older technology hardware than the Nexus 6p).

      +JerryRigEverything if you are interested, I have a nexus 6P in gold that when held up to a light and looked at from a narrow angle, you can see a tiny bump at the volume and power buttons, and a slight curve, but the other side is razor thin. I've a N6P (64GB) that boots up fine, but when the SIMcard goes in it keeps saying that there is no signal. This one never had a bootloop, was never bin opend, and did stop working on 4G or mobile-network in 2016 after the marshmellow update to nougat. WIFI is ok btw. I tried the simslot to have a better connection but that was OK as it recognize the code from the cared. My Idea it might be a broken antenna.
    Anyway, my N6P(32gb) is still working.
