The way I see it, it is a hybridisation of both the Combat Evolved Assault Rifle and the Halo 4 SAW. The power feels closer to the CE AR, but the RPM is much more akin to the SAW.
Its an MA5K. A variant of the Assault Rifle only seen in books. Basically is a cutdiwn carbine version of the MA5B (Halo CE AR) intended for Special Forces or rear echelon troops. But they favored the M7 SMG more. So the MA5K is a bit rare to see.

It's a nice reference to an old book considering infinite had us using older equipment. But I too really want the SMG back. This gun wouldn't replace it anyway, it really is just a shorter AR. Think how real life rifles have smaller and bigger versions.
They need to revert the changes they made to the AR in the last update if they want to add this because the new AR is barely effective at mid range. This is just two slightly different flavors of close range auto gun.

It actually does have unique sfx! It's a more tinny sound overall from earshot. I've heard similar sentiment going around durring leadup and I wonder if it's a matter of auditory halucination from the visual stimulus of the AR bits of the model.

Apparently the double barrel has more refined animations than the last time it was updated in the files. More likely the teams left on Infinite dev are working with what they have and their team leads deemed this a more worthwhile use of resources to be able to get both roles into the sandbox.

It does not matter where your shots land until you break the shield. Headshot damage is not in effect while the shield is active. Once the shield is broken, only then is it important to land headshots. Good luck to you, Spartans. o7

I actually like to have the Avenger with the MA40 as a backup gun combo. I destroy the shields with the MA40 and just give the last shot if the target happens to be out of range for a melee attack. At least, that's what I have done in Firefight.

Overall this weapon is only slightly better in close range situations and reloading speed. I suppose it does have its uses in this regard but I still feel iffy trading my standard assault rifle for this weapon.
