Gotta go with Somebody To Love (live in Montreal) for your next one. You may have heard a version of it already. Same with We Are The Champions and Another One Bites The Dust. Under Pressure might sound familiar too. Never been a big Queen fan as I listen to mostly reggae, 80’s-early 2000’s hip hop, and metal. But with Queen, gotta respect the talent and appreciate good music. Enjoy the ride

Great pick Amanda. I couldn't hit the play button fast enough when I saw the title. This song is Queen's magnum opus. There's a biopic titled Bohemian Rhapsody it's really good if you want the band's story. So many great Queen songs to checkout: Another One Bites the Dust, Under Pressure, Killer Queen. Of course there is also We Are the Champions and We Will Rock You which I know you watch sports, so you've heard these even if you don't realize.

You really want to know Queen, you’ll react to their full set at Live Aid in 1985. They were a group from 1970-1991, when the lead singer passed away.RIP Freddie Mercury (also great piano player) at the young age of 45, from AIDS. . I Love Queen!! Their discography is a great journey if you take it. Many Queen bans out here at TH-cam, we’ll never forget Freddie and the other brilliant musicians--Brian May-electric guitar extraordinaire and vocals, , Roger Taylor-drums and great falsetto vocals, and John Deacon-fabulous bass player…great mind and talents added to the group sound like you wouldn’t believe or notice, he was so quiet. They had a huge impact on what everyone does today. You’ll be surprised.

The film is OK but it does not stick very accurately to the truth, so it is best to watch one of the many documentary's that are available if you really want to know the facts.

I enjoyed this very much. However you missed the full glory and charisma of Freddie and the others by not watching the video. Please please watch the videos if you react to more Queen. 4 genius's playing their instruments and singing... yes Freddie was playing the piano and singing at the beginning and end of this.

You should read the Wikipedia on this song. It clarifies many of the references. That said it’s just an amazing little mini opera to me. I was in high school when I first heard them. Killer Queen was my introduction to them. This followed about a year later. Many songs from A Night at the Opera were hits actually. You probably know them from the stadium staple We Will Rock You. It’s mostly stamping feet as the music and the band singing with Freddie Mercury doing his rap in between. It ends with Brian May’s fabulous guitar. A unique song which flows seamlessly into We Are The Champions. They were unique. Brian May built his own guitars at that time and has a PhD in Astrophysics. Freddie Mercury had a several octave range vocally and utilized it especially when playing live. I saw them in 1976 at the Forum in Inglewood California. His voice reverberated. Lyrically they had a wicked sense of humor. You can go to their site and really not go wrong… that said they did a short live set at Live Aid in 1985 which basically stole the show even though it was filled with a lot of legendary performers. It touches on several songs and gives you a nice spectrum of hits.

There is a lot of panning on the official video that you will hear thru headset that makes the experience better as well.

Queen is the most culturally significant band probably in all of history you cannot live in this country without coming in contact with them either through sports through culture through music through movies commercials. They are everywhere and Freddie Mercury who is the lead singer his voice has been studied. He isthe best front man of any band ever and they are so culturally reverent. You couldn’t believe it for instance Lady Gaga got her name from one of their songs and I could go on, but I don’t want to take up space enjoy the review.

Your journey down the Queen path cannot be complete without Bohemian Rhapsody. In fact, your journey into great MUSIC of the past cannot be complete without Bohemian Rhapsody!
Bohemian Rhapsody, was released in 1975 on the album "A Night at the Opera" which gives a hint as to the musical genre. Freddie Mercury was a huge fan of opera so this song was written as an operatic suite consisting of five distinct parts: an acapella intro, a ballad segment, an operatic passage, a hard rock section, and a reflective coda. Generally it is classified as rock-and-roll, but specifically as a "rock opera" and "progressive rock." Truth is, labeling any Queen song, or Queen the band, is next to impossible!
"Bohemian" describes an unconventional, artistic style with freedom and individuality as key elements. "Rhapsody" in musical composition refers to a single work comprised of episodic, diverse pieces arranged into a free-flowing structure designed to heighten emotions. This song came to be because Freddie had pieces of songs he never completed, so he put them together, each section totally different yet masterfully blended into a truly epic masterpiece. It is the band's magnum opus, and is unanimously considered one of the best songs ever written.
As for the meaning of Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody", Freddie was purposefully vague. As with most of the greatest songs, the lyrics are written to be poetic and mysterious. Are they literal or figurative? As separate pieces initially, should the song have a singular meaning? Who knows! The meaning is open to interpretation for each listener to decide, based on how the music and lyrics touched them. You will read comments claiming the song's meaning, but the fact is, the entire band has never stating a specific meaning and has been firm that there isn't one, or if Freddie DID have a specific interpretation, he never shared it. Any assertion of the meaning pertaining to Freddie's sexuality are speculative and pushed by certain groups who WANT that to be the meaning. Those people insist one’s sexual preference is the only defining factor to everything one does in life, and therefore Freddie’s artistic talent is secondary and subjective to who he found attractive. This is ludicrous and insulting to one of the greatest musical geniuses of all time.

Great reaction! 🤣🤣 Killing a man could be metaphorical? A great introduction to Freddie’s amazing voice and song writing skills. He always sings with total conviction and passion. The official video is famous because it was so innovative at the time - long before MTV.
BoRhap is a very short prog rock number. A form Queen abandoned to become hit monsters 👹 until the last album (with Freddie) Innuendo. A rhapsody is a piece of music with no formal structure and sections with contrasting tonality and moods e.g. George Gershwin “Rhapsody in Blue”. Queen have a huge back catalogue. One of the best bands to see live - but only a half dozen concerts were ever video recorded (from over 700 performances). Try “Somebody To Love” live @Montreal 1981 - for a bit of mind blowing. Or anything live really to experience the magic of Freddie onstage. 🤯 ❤

Bohemian Rhapsody is one of the best songs of all time. It sucks you in with the classical bit at the beginning, then Brian May hits you with the guitar riff before Freddie's tempo change with the piano, and all hell breaks loose. I'm not sure anyone but Freddie Mercury really knows what all the lyrics mean. This is off Queen's second album, A Night At the Opera, and it almost didn't get released because it was so long. The melodies were so complex that they never performed the whole thing live. I think next up you would like their song Fat Bottomed Girls (You Make The Rocking World Go Round)

You just listened to a song that has over 1 BILLION views on TH-cam. But there is much more to Queen than this song... whatever your genre, Queen's got a song for it. To get a good feel for the talent in this band, try Somebody to Love, live in Montreal 1981. And it will NOT be blocked. In order to get the feel for Queen you need to watch as well as listen.

  • @oskarobit

Man, metaphors... Poetry, poetry is the word that most songs today don't know the meaning of: art, vocabulary, composition, bridges, verses, imagination, virtuosity, surprise.... Today 90% of music is ALL THE SAME, a copy of the copy, ultra processed songs with the same voices and the same simple structures: an intro (hopefully), one or two short verses and chorus, chorus, chorus... until the monotonous ending.
One theory about the meaning of the song is that Freddy is telling his process of acceptance of being gay, he is coming out of the closet: he has killed the man he was and has a new life ahead, now he has to face the rejection and aggression of the 70's society. In the ‘operatic section’ (as describing the madness of the situation) they name various characters from Commedia dell'Arte, Opera Buffa (as in a tragicomic opera) and religious aspects (Bismillah, ‘In the name of God’) as if he was committing ‘a sin’.
It was a really unusual song when it was released, because of the structure, the combination of styles and the length. A perfect song.

Bohemians were an outcast group of people living in Bohemia, a region that was never geographically defined but it's somewhere between Romania, Hungary and Bulgaria (a bit like Kurdistan where kurds are divided between Iran, Irak, Syria and Turkey but the kurds have never been granted an independent country). A rhapsody is a kind of tragic saga. It's a pity that you chose the lyrics version instead of the official video

@@leighloutreedore8926 Not a new interpretation.... The interpretation is that the man he killed was his old self when he was in denial of his sexuality etc etc. It was difficult for him to admit this to his family and himself because of their religion, Zoroastrian. People following this religion are known as "Parsis". It is one of the more common ideas about it but Freddie never said this he always insisted that it was up to the listener to make their own interpretation.
