Guys let me give you some background on the band and this song. Freddie Mercury is the lead vocalist and plays piano and guitar. He has a 4 octave vocal range. He is considered by many to be the best frontman and singer ever. He got a diploma in graphic design and designed the band’s logo. Sir Dr Brian May is the lead guitarist and vocalist. He also plays keyboards and harp. He has a PhD in Astrophysics and has an IQ north of 180. He was knighted 2 years ago. He and his father made his guitar when he was 16 out of things around the house. The neck was hand carved from a 100 year old fireplace mantle, the body from an oak table, the tremolo bar from bicycle parts and his mother’s knitting needle. His guitar has a very unique sound you won’t find with anyone else and 60 years later he is still using it. It is called The Red Special. Roger Taylor is the drummer, vocalist and also plays guitar. He went to school to become a dentist but got bored and got a degree in Biology. He has a 3 and a half octave vocal range and a very high falsetto earning him the nickname, the dog whistle. He is considered by some to be one of the top 10 rock drummers ever. John Deacon is the bassist and also plays double bass, piano/keyboards and drums. He graduated with high honors in engineering. He made an amp called the Deacy Amp out of a speaker cabinet and parts he found in the trash. He gave the amp to Brian which enables Brian’s guitar to make different instrumental and orchestral sounds. Every member of the band wrote at least 1 number one hit and all were inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame as well as the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Bohemian Rhapsody is considered by many to be the greatest rock and roll song ever and their video for it revolutionized the way music videos were made and used, paving the way for the inception of tv channels like MTV. Queen are 4 equal members of one of the best bands of all time.
4 octaves for Freddy's vocal range is a little too much. Something like "he was reliably able to hit notes from the booming low of F#2 to the high pitch G5 - that covers a full three octaves" is more accurate. His voice was amazing and well used in each song, I love it, but one thing that makes a good singer is that never push their limits while singing live. Freddy did it even in the studio and that makes his performances more human, more warmth. Trivia: Prince is ranked as the third male rock singer in vocal range with 5 octaves and 3 semitones.

Freddie owned the stage! Play it again and *listen*! At the end, Freddie sings 'nothing really matters, anyone can see, nothing really matters, nothing really matters to me' and then he whisper-sings 'any way the wind blows' and then the gong. It is an awesome ending to an awesome song.
Guys, welcome to "ROCK OPERA!" Rock + Opera. Bohemian Rhapsody was written by Freddie Mercury, beginning to end, lyrics + music...everything! You probably saw the movie, "Waynes World" starring Mike Myers. When they're in the car rocking out with their heads bobbing, they were listening to THIS song! That's why the middle section sounded familiar to you. It's one of Queen's best and most successful songs, ever.
it's a rhapsody ... A musical rhapsody is a work that is episodic yet integrated, free-flowing in structure, featuring a range of highly contrasted moods, colour, and tonality with an air of spontaneous and exciting inspiration and emotion and a sense of improvisation. And this is surely one, it's a cappella, a ballad, an opera and a crazy rocker!
What you are listening to is a musical masterpiece ! Freddie Mercury might very well be the greatest male vocalist of all time ! I mean you gotta consider Steve Perry, Elvis Presley, Roy Orbison, and there are some others, but if you told me, Freddie Mercury was the best of all time, I wouldn’t argue
This was 1975 so 10 years before Live Aid. I love this song and have for (nearly) 50 years. This was the first video ever produced as a promotion for a song. The song was charting and Queen was going out on tour so they produced this video in 3 days so that it could be used while they were in another country. At that time, the only way to really promote music in the UK was on a show called Top Of The Pops and they would feature the band who had the #1 song in studio every week on their show. This song stayed at #1 for 9 weeks so they reluctantly had to show this video instead of having the band in their studio. You really do need to listen to this again with headphones. The panning and the ambient sounds are outstanding. It becomes a roller coaster ride for your ears.
@@sherryheim5504 very true! They are missing a lot with Queen if they don’t use headphones. There is one reactor that listened to Bohemian Rhapsody a 2nd time with headphones and wanted to go back and redo all his reactions haha!
❤ Hey boys, so happy to see you back with more Queen, this is 1975, early Queen, so great watching your reactions, a better Christmas present I couldn’t get. Queen did all sorts of music, I don’t think there is any type of music 🎼 they didn’t give a go. True genius’s all of them. So Thankyou ❤
It almost brings me to tears to see you young men really *GET* what good music is - & to share it with others. You'll enjoy doing a deep dive on Queen. Thanks!!!
I think it was in 1974 when this was a top hit. I remember I was 15 and still in school. We had a programme called Top of the Pops and this song went straight to number one. I remember everyone talking about it next day in school. Queen is a UK band. They had other songs before this I can remember the first time Queen were on TV!! But Bohemian Rhapsody was the song that made them superstars. I'm 62 now, an old lady ha ha
Another One Bites the dust, Don't Stop me Now, Somebody to Love, We will Rock You, We are the Champions, Crazy Little Thing Called Love, The Show Must Go On, Fat Button Girls, Save Me, Radio Gaga, Love of my Life, and so many more timeless hits...
Next to watch/react to: Somebody to Love - Live at Montreal 1981 Now I'm here - Live at Wembley 1986 Who wants to live forever - Live at Wembley 1986 It's a kind of magic - Live at Wembley 1986 One vision - Live at Wemley 1986 And another early song and also fabulous live performance: Liar - Live at the Rainbow 1974 Just to name a few.... :-) There are a few songs where studio version is the preferred version, but in general/most times with Queen you can say, live is the one to watch! By the way, the drummer Roger Taylor has a fantastic voice too, in the beginning he sang the very high notes, too. He also sings lead in some songs, like: Rock it - Prime Jive (here take the official lyric video, as there is no real live version. Starts with a beautiful intro of Freddie Mercury, then Roger takes over!) I'm in love with my car - Live at Montreal 1981 (here Roger is singing and playing the drums at the same time)
Don't forget the greatest hidden gem in the Queen catalog, "White Queen " A Night at the Odeon, Hammersmith, Live 1975 . I don't think they're ready for, " March of the Black Queen " quite yet.😅
After Freddie Mercury died Brian May went back to university and got a PhD in Astrophysics. When Brian May was growing up he wanted an electric guitar but his father couldn’t afford to buy him one so he built an electric guitar for him. He still plays it on stage.
and Deaky built him an amp later ... poor Deaky, on the No-one but You/Only the Good Die Young vid, he looks so broken, like he hardly had the strength to hold his bass. We all miss Freddie but I think it hit him harder than most. :(
hey guys. look up the crowd sings bohemian rhapsody at the greenday concert. then you'll see how wild it is that freddie still lives today in the music and the hearts of the people.
This!! If you want a glimpse into the uniting power of this and and this song... just watch that Green Day concert video. It is such a strong testament to see and will give you shivers.
Brian May, the guitarist, played LIVE, on top of Buckingham Palace, in Central London, in celebration of the, now deceased Queen Elizabeth's Jubilee. As for Freddie Mercury, he is a LEGEND. Amazing band. Do watch the palace performance, although the beautiful Freddie had already passed away too, it's a great spectacle. 👍
He commuted a crime…the beginning, a confession. The middle operatic like section is a trial. The rock portion is him not wanting to accept his fate. The ending…he just gives in. Actually, most people think he’s coming out of the closet here and trying to reconcile his two lives. Freddie was raised Zoroastrian, the most ancient religion on earth. His parents…he feared their reaction. And his own feelings…he was bisexual or pansexual, not gay. Back then, not at all accepted, though he was and always was himself, not caring what anyone thought except those closest to him. RIP, Legend. 🙏❤
I know the song a long time and loved it, but I saw ans listened to it again after your comment and it makes so much sense in the lyrics and song and ads even more to and already legendary song. Thank you
This song grows on most people. It’s definitely an experience. Props to you both for exploring music outside your own genre. Your generation doesn’t know how good they have it. Great music ages like a fine wine. Drink up!
You guys are just wonderful. I like that you have such natural reactions to everything you have been showing. A big difference between Queen at Live Aid and this production of a single song is the huge interaction with the crowd of 72,000 people at Live Aid. Look up Freddie Mercury to learn more about the story behind his incredible voice and his multi-octave range.
This was 1975, it was utterly unique at the time, no one had ever heard anything like this EVER,........... and 50 years later there STILL has been nothing to compare with this!!!❤❤
At the end of each year we have a tradition in the Netherlands called the Top2000. People vote on their favourite songs ever, it’s broadcast on radio and television starting at Christmas non stop till 0:00 at New Year. Of the 26 editions of the Top200 Bohemian Rhapsody of Queen was the number one 21 times! So a classic and great song for sure. And also kind of a tradition now to be the last song played before getting into the new year 😄
These guys were geniuses. All had college degrees, Brian the guitarist has been knighted by the King of England, and is a doctor of astrophysics. So he is Sir doctor Brian May
Freddie Mercury, Queen!! They will ROCK you, you should listen to more of their music, totally different from what the last couple of generations have produced.
Nice reaction! Just as a suggestiont it's really better to listen to it with headphones. A Rhapsody is a musical piece composed of different parts that are distinct from each other. Here there are five parts: intro, ballade, operatic section, rock, coda.
Thanks, guys - yes, as commented below -- headphones, please! it's a whole new experience... appreciate your reaction... (well, this was in 1975... almost FIFTY years ago) -- I saw your reaction to Live Aid performance.. y'all know a lot more Queen songs than you realize - lol
I first heard, and watched, this just before Christmas 1975 when it was first released and have loved it ever since. It is one of the best songs ever written and Freddie Mercury is the best frontman of any band ever. Welcome to the Queen rabbit hoke, it is very deep.
*** You guys really need to react to the Greenday Concert at Wembley Stadium where the crowd sings Bohemian Rhapsody word for word before the concert even starts and without any prompting.
"I thought they were a rock band" lol! Hang on guys, you're in for a wild ride if keep going down the Queen rabbit hole. And you absolutely need headphones to fully appreciate their music. Great reaction, thanks!
Guys you should definitely react to the crowd singing this song while waiting for a Green Day concert to start to realise just how big it was in the UK
There’s a reason why we are still discussing and talking about Queen and Freddie Mercury today. I was on my way to my junior high when I heard Bohemian Rhapsody. My friends and I were half asleep when this song came on. We were like…” What did we just hear?” This song was our introduction to Queen. We knew we were hearing something completely unique and amazing. A few years later, right before I left for college my boyfriend and I had a Live Aid watch party. We saw Queen give their epic performance and absolute stole the entire worldwide performance. Another fun fact…Phil Collins (Air Supply) played at the UK concert, then hopped on the Concord and performed at the American Live Aid concert held the same day. It was literally a worldwide concert. I am so lucky I got to see it all in real time.
What a great reaction from you guys…… I really enjoyed watching both of you.😊. Please remember that this song, the outfits and the hair are all 50 years old……but the singing and the music still lives today. Please….you absolutely must react to “Somebody to Love” live in Montreal 1981 ….. the outfits and hair will be gone ….but the incredible singing, music and performance will live forever. No autotune…..pure talent. Queen has so many other songs, many that you will probably recognize….or at least heard parts of before. Thank you for reacting to this iconic song ….please continue.
This video was made when this beautiful song was first released in 1975. Queen was doing MTV loooong before there was an MTV. His performance at the Live Aid concert in Wembley Stadium was 10 years later. Freddie Mercury was truly touched by God. His classical training is all over this composition, and I feel truly blessed to have been around when he was around making such great music. He is still missed by me and his legion of fans. Yes, Brian has a Ph.D in Astrophysics.
This was released on 31st of October 1975 I will never forget the first time I heard this and it is timeless Freddie was unique never be another Freddie
Guys, Queen’s record label did not want to release this song as a single, citing its length at almost 6 minutes being twice the normal length of the usual 3 minute pop song to be played on the radio. However, Freddie Mercury, the lead singer (and the writer of this particular song) was adamant it be released and reluctantly their record label agreed. Kenny Everett, a London DJ, was a friend of Freddie’s and loved Queen, and to help the band get the song the exposure it needed would tease his listeners by playing the song, but would chop it up into little bits, so eventually they would be able to hear the whole song during his radio slot and decide for themselves if they liked it or not. The plan worked and when audience demand for the song to be heard in its entirety intensified, the radio station had to give in to public pressure, and Everett (and other DJ’s) were allowed to play it in full. Bohemian Rhapsody was released as a single in the UK at the end of October 1975 and became the UK Christmas number one, holding the top position for nine weeks. The song was the first ever to get to number one in the UK twice with the same version, and is also the only single to have been Christmas number one twice with the same version. The second was upon its re-release (as a double A-side single with "These Are the Days of Our Lives") in 1991, following Freddie’s death in November that year, staying at number one for five weeks.
@@Mikey-DiLo He played parts as teasers, then over 2 days played the full piece 14 times. Fans besieged stores to get copies, but we're told it hadn't been released! The record company had to release it

@@Mikey-DiLo Mr. Video did the same. He was blown away by the difference.
@ yes it was him. He is pretty funny!
Freddie was beautiful
During the into of the video, Freddie is singing all 4 parts! This pure genius! RIP beautiful Freddie!
50 years ago, boys! And fresh as ever. 33 years since our dear Freddie passed. Take those numbers in, and wonder if anything today will age as well.
This is the band that wrote and plays WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS and WE WILL ROCK YOU!!!
Next to watch/react to:
Somebody to Love - Live at Montreal 1981
Now I'm here - Live at Wembley 1986
Who wants to live forever - Live at Wembley 1986
It's a kind of magic - Live at Wembley 1986
One vision - Live at Wemley 1986
And another early song and also fabulous live performance:
Liar - Live at the Rainbow 1974
Just to name a few.... :-)
There are a few songs where studio version is the preferred version, but in general/most times with Queen you can say, live is the one to watch!
By the way, the drummer Roger Taylor has a fantastic voice too, in the beginning he sang the very high notes, too. He also sings lead in some songs, like:
Rock it - Prime Jive (here take the official lyric video, as there is no real live version. Starts with a beautiful intro of Freddie Mercury, then Roger takes over!)
I'm in love with my car - Live at Montreal 1981 (here Roger is singing and playing the drums at the same time)
Don't forget the greatest hidden gem in the Queen catalog, "White Queen " A Night at the Odeon, Hammersmith, Live 1975 .
How cool 😎
The wood his guitar is made from came from a 500 year-old fireplace mantlepiece. It's a one-of-a-kind guitar which gave Queen their distinctive sound.
and Deaky built him an amp later ... poor Deaky, on the No-one but You/Only the Good Die Young vid, he looks so broken, like he hardly had the strength to hold his bass. We all miss Freddie but I think it hit him harder than most. :(
The piano in this rock opera is magnificent!
OUTSTANDING PIECE OF MUSIC AND SINGING! ❤❤
Always love seeing people discover Queen!
I grew up with Queen. My taste in music is BASICALLY made by them. I cried a lot when Freddie died. What a loss.
Freddies version of an opera. Hes magnificent. The whole band is outstanding. ❤❤❤❤
hey guys. look up the crowd sings bohemian rhapsody at the greenday concert. then you'll see how wild it is that freddie still lives today in the music and the hearts of the people.
This!! If you want a glimpse into the uniting power of this and and this song... just watch that Green Day concert video. It is such a strong testament to see and will give you shivers.
I enjoy seeing young people discovering one of the best bands of all time. Enjoy it guys❣️
Headphones absolutely needed👍😊
Drink up!
This is considered Rock opera!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's a rhapsody ...
Freddie was one of a kind.
This was in 1975!!!! I was a teen, a Junior in HS... Our music was LIT, so were our cars!!! still killin' it in 2024!!!
I’m a huge queen fan. Every song was an amazing. Glad to see new folks check them out.
They worked there asses off on this album. ❤ RIP FREDDIE
And also kind of a tradition now to be the last song played before getting into the new year 😄
In case no one told you, Brian May, the astrophysicist, built that guitar with his dad when he was a kid.
And why it has a different sound than other guitar, very cool sounds though, that guitar has its own fan groups.
This song is a masterpiece. Unbelievably creative. God bless queen.
R.I.P FREDDIE WE MISS YOU
These guys were geniuses. All had college degrees, Brian the guitarist has been knighted by the King of England, and is a doctor of astrophysics.
So he is Sir doctor Brian May
Watch the movie Bohemian Rhapsody... It will give you a little insight into the band .
Also , I think there is a documentary about Queen
1:34 “I thought they were a rock band?” My thoughts “um give this song two seconds and it changes genre.”
Freddie Mercury, Queen!! They will ROCK you, you should listen to more of their music, totally different from what the last couple of generations have produced.
Im 76 and im listening to the joy in your responses.
SOMEBODY TO LOVE by Queen
Montreal 1981
Pure entertainment and great musicianship
Song came out1975 and still going strong the world will never forget the incredible Freddy Mercury
Nice reaction! Just as a suggestiont it's really better to listen to it with headphones. A Rhapsody is a musical piece composed of different parts that are distinct from each other. Here there are five parts: intro, ballade, operatic section, rock, coda.
Fredie Mercury was a marvelous singer. His voice was so beautiful that when i lesson Queen, it's make me feel happy. Thank you guys !
Such a genuine thrill to see a new generation discover Queen!
Saw them perform in the Budokan, in Tokyo, Japan, 1980s. The crowd went nuts.
Thank you again for featuring Queen. They are an amazing group and seeing what they came out with next was fun!
This is MUSIC guys ! ❤❤❤🎶🎶🎶🎶
Siete grandi, fate sentire ai ragazzi della vostra età cos era la vera musica e il saper cantare come Freddie Mercury 🎉
Deemed as the best song ever written!!!
I concur ❤
I still remember hearing this for the first time, it blew my mind the and it blows my mind 50 years later.
"I thought they were a rock band" lol! Hang on guys, you're in for a wild ride if keep going down the Queen rabbit hole. And you absolutely need headphones to fully appreciate their music. Great reaction, thanks!
Thought the same thing….Oh, they’re a rock band. Hold tight.
These are well trained musicians. I saw Queen in the 70’s. These are real singers and musicians.
Another fantastic group you should definitely listen to is Pink Floyd “Another Brick in the Wall”, “Money”, “Dark Side of the Moon”. Thanks guys 👍
Check out , Somebody to love, live in Montreal
Rock Opera the Best ever.................Freddie we miss you..................
Yo guys ‼️do queen “ another one bites the dust “ you might have heard some of it before. Or sampled 💥thanks bosses
This song was 11 weeks at number one in the charts best band ever
This video was made when this beautiful song was first released in 1975. Queen was doing MTV loooong before there was an MTV. His performance at the Live Aid concert in Wembley Stadium was 10 years later. Freddie Mercury was truly touched by God. His classical training is all over this composition, and I feel truly blessed to have been around when he was around making such great music. He is still missed by me and his legion of fans. Yes, Brian has a Ph.D in Astrophysics.
I was in Chicago when I first heard this played on the radio. Fell in love with
I was in Chicago when I first heard this played on the radio. Fell in love
This was released on 31st of October 1975 I will never forget the first time I heard this and it is timeless Freddie was unique never be another Freddie
I think you guys will *love* to watch the film QUEEN, done a few years ago about the story of the band.
The very best rock band that ever existed ❤❤❤❤
@@andrewroberts299 fascinating! Thanks for the info. I didn’t know Kenny Everett chopped up the song.
@@Mikey-DiLo
He played parts as teasers, then over 2 days played the full piece 14 times. Fans besieged stores to get copies, but we're told it hadn't been released!
The record company had to release it
Queen has quite the catalog. Time to dive deep so many to chose from
Bohemian Rhapsody was released in 1975.
Love those young guys explore the world of these diamonds.
