Yes he did his "Ay oh" call & response a lot. When asked what instrument he played in an interview, he responded "the audience". No-one owned a stage or commanded a croud like him
Queen was the best band I ever saw live. Freddie did the crowd chanting all the time. The band on after Queen at live aid didn’t want to come out. Not after that set. Brian Mays curly locks are now grey. What a time to be alive!!!!!
I am so glad that people are truly realizing how tremendous FM was! No autotune needed. This man WAS THE MAN! I was so blessed to be in the world when he was alive! I was also truly blessed to see them 4 times (3 times with Freddie and once with Paul Rodgers). Enough to have a Freddie tattoo over my heart, and paintings of him on my wall. He was the ultimate!
Freddie came alive on stage ❤ Yes it's 'live' Queen are the only band that can do this! You need to watch 'somebody to love' live in Montreal 1981 to see how good the whole band are. Instruments, backing vocals, all live! There are so many live clips of queen on you tube!
@redscouse7056 It was $10.50 Canadian, at today's exchange rate that's about 4 British Pounds. I am ofcourse referring to the 1981 Montréal Concert not Live Aid
He was a freak of nature, 4:16 you’re right. Analysis of his voice shows (like on an oscilloscope) that he had the tightest and most regularly shaped sound waves of anybody. His vibrato was SO smooth and controlled.
Great reaction Ryan, pls do their whole set at Live Aid, 21 mins widely regarded as the best live set ever& it needs to be viewed in its entirety! You will be blown away & Queen fans will certainly watch it! Love from Oz!🇦🇺
I wasn’t allowed to go to Wembley (I was 9) but vividly remember watching this on TV. Freddie was an absolute showman. Also the guitar and drum skills of the others was top notch too
I remember watching this as a child - 12 years of age. In 2026, I'll be 52. I've asked the BBC if they can rerun the whole Live Aid on BBC4 for the 40th anniversary - 🤞 they can do it. One of my memories of that evening was that it was performed in London and somewhere in the States - I think it was Phil Collins who opened the show in London and then went straight to Heathrow Airport and flew on Concorde to the US and arrived before the end of the show at their performance...... fantastic. Absolutely love Queen and Freddie Mercury. My top five in no particular order - Bohemian Rhapsody, Friends Will Be Friends, The Show Must Go On, Don't Stop Me Now and the brilliant rock Vs opera Barcelona with Montserrat Caballe
Every band that played at Live Aid in Wembley Stadium had a 20 minute time limit to play whatever they wanted - Queen belted out their greatest hits and absolutely stole the show! Other acts like Adam and the Ants played a set of new songs from their new album that no-one knew - and absolutely bombed miserably!
@@AuldScot1888 that may be true, but they were playing at 2.05pm in Philadelphia USA, the same time that Queen were playing their early evening set in Wembley London (also overlapping David Bowie's set who performed after Queen) so went largely unseen in the UK/Europe. But it probably did Simple Mind's US career a lot of good.
The whole set was amazing. I was too young to go to the concert but I remember watching it on live tv broadcast with my family. There was a huge amount of donations during their set. You need to watch the whole Queen set to see just how fantastic they were.
I loved watching your expression and awe listening to Freddie's physical and emotional performance on that stage. I've seen this many times so it's fun to hear your reaction.
Queen never did the full version of Bohemian Rhapsody live. The middle section was a "studio creation", sometimes they played the recording of the middle section and then played the last section live; sometimes (as here) they transitioned from the end of the first section into a medley or another song. Each Queen performance is completely unique. They made lots of changes to the songs, with lots of improvisation. They never played the same way twice.
Yes, that correct. They wanted it to be totally live for live aid. I was lucky enough to see them on tour in 1979 (in Birmingham, UK), when I think they did the whole track as you described with the recorded middle section. If I remember it correctly.
You really need to watch his full 22 minute performance. I was there that day. A day I'll never forget. Freddie wasn't just a singer, he was a performer. You've missed out on that by not watching his whole performance. It was great to see him come back on stage later that evening. I've still got my Live Aid ticket today all nicely laminated and safely locked up in a safe.
Freddie had a chest infection at the time and was advised by his doctor not to perform!! This is Freddie at 90%!!! I have had the honour of seeing Queen live 3 times...they were the best live band EVER!!! Watch the whole set..incredible!!! xxxxxx
And Freddie was singing with a really bad sore throat, the drink on the piano was a honey and lemon drink. You can hear his voice starting to crack towards the end if you play the whole set. Dr Sir Brian May is an Astro Physisist.
yea he had a throat infection and was told not to sing or he would risk completely losing his voice, so he downed a bottle of vodka before the gig and went out and sang his heart out

Please watch the whole 21 minutes that Queen performed at Live Aid. And then watch Queen perform 'Somebody to Love' live performance 1981 in Montreal. That will blow your socks off!
Each act had just 20 minutes for their set which included 17 minutes playing time, and Queen chose to use it to do a medley of some of their most popular and/or new songs, packing in the entertainment. It really works best seen as a whole, as others here have said. With a worldwide audience of billions via live satellite links, Freddie was in his element and the whole band was humming. They were the standout performance of the day, despite being a late booking and so not appearing on the publicity material. They stole the show! Other stand-out live performances: Somebody to Love - Montreal, 1981(?) White Queen - Hammersmith Odeon, 1975 You Take My breath Away, Hyde Park, 1976
I watched at home in Texas at the time! They made the whole show! 1.8 BILLION watched this concert. I was folding laundry but by the time Hammer to Fall came on I was dancing around our apartment!🥰
I watched a documentary about Freddies last few days. Brian may was talking about that song saying Freddie was having troubles with the high notes. Brian said leave it for today and we will try again tomorrow. Freddie grabbed a shot of vodka looked Brian in the eye a said "ill fucking do it darling" then proceeded to absolutely nail it.
Watch the whole set it’s fabulous

Please find the full set and watch it... it will be worth it!!
Actually Freddie is widely seen as the greatest vocalist in history by many people
Yes he did his "Ay oh" call & response a lot.
When asked what instrument he played in an interview, he responded "the audience".
No-one owned a stage or commanded a croud like him
There was never 4 members of queen with Freddie . The audience was part of the group to
@Blackcountrybloke1976 don't forget Spike Edney!
We’re very lucky he never abused his power - he could have got an audience to do anything.
Queen was the best band I ever saw live. Freddie did the crowd chanting all the time. The band on after Queen at live aid didn’t want to come out. Not after that set. Brian Mays curly locks are now grey. What a time to be alive!!!!!
He was quoted to say that his favourite instrument to play was the audience. The man fed off the crowds energy.
Set List:
00:36 - Bohemian Rhapsody
02:47 - Radio Ga Ga
06:53 - Ay Oh!
07:35 - Hammer To Fall
12:01 - Crazy Little Thing Called Love
16:03 - We Will Rock You
17:22 - We Are The Champions
Queen Live Aid 1985
Freddie & Brian came back on at the end and sang 'Is This The World We Created'.
I was there unforgettable time for music in general I'm 60 and loved living in the 80's and early 90's
You need to watch 'somebody to love' live in Montreal 1981 to see how good the whole band are. Instruments, backing vocals, all live! There are so many live clips of queen on you tube!
£25 a ticket wasn't it? A bargain
@redscouse7056
It was $10.50 Canadian, at today's exchange rate that's about 4 British Pounds.
I am ofcourse referring to the 1981 Montréal Concert not Live Aid
@@chriskazanas9941 I'm sure it was £25 in 85 for live aid
Rio '85 tops this imo.
Also the guitar and drum skills of the others was top notch too
You need to watch all of their set. Was amazing
You will have to watch 'Crowd Sing Bohemian Rhapsody At Green Day Concert' Hyde Park, London.
You need to see the whole set. It's known as the best half hour of rock music ever.
Brian May PhD Astrophysics (his thesis was on space dust, you can download it)
You sure you're not confusing him with Brian Cox?! 😂
His voice! He was amazing. RIP Freddie ❤❤
Watch the 'Green Day' concert, they played Queen before starting the show to get the audience in the mood and everyone sang along.
You need to do the full 20 minutes of the Live Aid concert it will blow your socks off.
It was an amazing performance. 🏴🏴🏴
The whole set was amazing. I was too young to go to the concert but I remember watching it on live tv broadcast with my family. There was a huge amount of donations during their set. You need to watch the whole Queen set to see just how fantastic they were.
Freddie’s Doctor told him he shouldn’t perform as he had a severe throat infection and he could have damaged his vocal chords but he refused to cancel
I saw him at Wembley and at Nebworth. Best I’ve ever seen by a country mile. Still brings the hairs on my arms up.
You say about the size of the crowd, they reckon up to two billion people worldwide watched this in over 150 country's..
I loved watching your expression and awe listening to Freddie's physical and emotional performance on that stage. I've seen this many times so it's fun to hear your reaction.
Freddie Mercury the ultimate showman
Freddie's voice is made for Rock and Roll! He's just perfect!
Brian.May, Brian May! Astronomer royal!
By far best stage recording ever ,that voice 👌 just exquisite just preposterous, simply just the best .He was in a class of his own ❤
Queen never did the full version of Bohemian Rhapsody live.
Freddie Mercury is God. There will never be a greater frontman. RIP.
It's a mashup of several tracks and it's brilliant ❤
Freddie had a chest infection at the time and was advised by his doctor not to perform!! This is Freddie at 90%!!! I have had the honour of seeing Queen live 3 times...they were the best live band EVER!!! Watch the whole set..incredible!!! xxxxxx
I watched this live as a 14y/o on the telly. Core memory......
No auto tune,no pitch perfect,no synced backing track.Just raw talent and energy.Put that in your pipe Taylor..lol
7,200 people watched the concert just there in the stadium alone. 1.9 billion watched world wide.
72,000?
@@ianarnett Yep, that was Wembley Stadium, the national Football Stadium, entirely converted for the concert.
You have to watch the whole performance. Its a must!
You should 100% see the whole set they did
I was there, as he faces the crowd I was up in the top left deck ,the whole queen live runs for 20+ mins doing various songs
And Freddie was singing with a really bad sore throat, the drink on the piano was a honey and lemon drink. You can hear his voice starting to crack towards the end if you play the whole set. Dr Sir Brian May is an Astro Physisist.
yea he had a throat infection and was told not to sing or he would risk completely losing his voice, so he downed a bottle of vodka before the gig and went out and sang his heart out
Hi Tyler
I think you'll really flip out over Freddie and Queen Live at Montreal in 1981 singing Fteddie's fave song, 'Somebody to Love'. Enjoy. Your new subscriber from Oz.
Please watch the whole 21 minutes that Queen performed at Live Aid. And then watch Queen perform 'Somebody to Love' live performance 1981 in Montreal. That will blow your socks off!
Without doubt the best musical performer of that generation, there will never be anyone to match his presence, vocals and talent ❤️🤘🏻❤️
The whole Queen Live Aid 1985 set is fantastic. Freddy was one of the best (if not the best) frontman and vocalist ever. Freddy was incredible
Watch the whole live aid performance, it's amazing. You only saw the first bit!
Other stand-out live performances:
Somebody to Love - Montreal, 1981(?)
White Queen - Hammersmith Odeon, 1975
You Take My breath Away, Hyde Park, 1976
I watched at home in Texas at the time! They made the whole show! 1.8 BILLION watched this concert. I was folding laundry but by the time Hammer to Fall came on I was dancing around our apartment!🥰
My favourite of Queens songs has got to be The Show Must Go On.🇬🇧🇺🇸
I watched a documentary about Freddies last few days. Brian may was talking about that song saying Freddie was having troubles with the high notes. Brian said leave it for today and we will try again tomorrow. Freddie grabbed a shot of vodka looked Brian in the eye a said "ill fucking do it darling" then proceeded to absolutely nail it.
