My 2 favorite channels- Taylor and Derek with Vice Grip Garage! Please get Derek to ride with you in the Vette! And every time you start the Monte you need to yell “Bring the Thunder!” Love it, love the channel.
I'm so stoked on this car. It's rad that it's history with you and your family but more so that you sought it out and are bringing her back to the glory she deserves! Killer work as usual Mr. Ray 👏
@Gear Bangin' Entertainment did you read? Sought it out. Went after it. Taylor had a million other things he could be doing than deciding to work on grandma's hotrod and turn it into his own lol 😆
Any time a monte is involved, I gotta like it. Its also really awesome as I also own an 84 monte that was also my grandma's. Also, quadrajets are black magic, they somehow run while also being broken.
Love this for you! Last year I finally tracked down my grandpa's old 71 240z still in mint condition and the exact same as he had it in the 80's. It's such a good feeling to drive
Lots of memories from when my dad bought his SS. Five kids turning 16 within two years of each other we gave the sbc a workout. We had a 79 Camaro then the SS and then an Olds Cutlass Supreme.
Love this car! The cold start issue: the metering wells on Qjets are known to leak, and after sitting overnight, all the fuel leaks out of the carb into the intake, so it takes a few cranks to fill the fuel bowl again. When you rebuild the carb, mix up some JB weld (or other fuel-safe epoxy) and liberally cover the main and secondary jet wells on the bottom of the main body of the carb directly below the main jets. I'm sure you can find pics/vids of what I'm talking about, and I bet Derek has told you about that issue, too. Man I'd love to get my hands on one of these in that condition!!
I found this pic googling, shows where to apply: 1.bp.blogspot.com/-GPOoG6b9GCk/XkMIYLNY07I/AAAAAAAAX2w/PXsN93VC7OoSVuzaRNO8UHXJaBuFEUStQCLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/Img_2814.jpg
Taylor…that’s awesome. It’s got to be rewarding…one to have a childhood dream car with fantastic bones, and two knowing the memories you have and the connection you feel with that car, you can’t ask for more than that. I look forward to seeing how this build progresses, and the memories you create with phase two of the cars life. Take care and God bless…David.
This might be my favorite video of yours. The excitement in your voice is different than your other videos I can tell that this project is extra special to you.
You should always have a fire extinguisher regardless if it’s a build or an old car or new or whatever. Even brand new cars go up in flames from time to time. Love seeing this come back to life. Especially with the sentimental value to it!!!
One of my favorite cars growing up. I am excited about this build. The fact that this was your grandparents car makes it even better. Hopefully grandma will take it for a cruise.
this is so cool man! stoked for you! i would update the suspension and brakes for comfort and safety, put some nicer wheels on it and enjoy!! Congrats again. I cant wait to see the video with your Grandma! I also think that paint will really clean up good, it looks to be in decent shape in the video.
Exactly what I'd do! Modernize the things that sucked on old cars (and if you don't think 80's brakes and suspension sucked, you've got some heavy nostalgia), clean it up nice and fresh, sort the wheels and tyres and just enjoy. Next step would be tidying that bay. No big mods, don't need 1000hp turbo LS or anything but something a little more modern and clean is all you need
@@helplmchoking If you think 80's brakes and suspension sucked, you're clueless. It's not sports car suspension, it's a smooth riding cruising car, and for that the suspension and brakes are perfect.
@@trumbley22 For this car maybe, but they still can't compete with a modern setup in terms of absorbing bumps without getting that soft, floaty secondary ride. And brakes absolutely were worse, that's just a fact, though the 60's and 70's were definitely a lot worse than something like this. I think the kit this car has was totally fine back in the day, though certainly a little more old fashioned than a similar German car from Mercedes or BMW at the time, but still objectively worse than what could be achieved with today's technology
@@helplmchoking Lumping all 80's brakes and suspension to be junk just shows you don't know a lot about cars. It's not a sports car, it was a family car. You can't compare it to sports cars of today, because it never was one.
@@trumbley22 No, and I'm not. But an Audi A3 sedan or 530i, both standard family cars, or even things like Cadillacs or like a 300c - none of which are sporty - will all handle better, ride more smoothly and stop far faster than a 40 year old Monte Carlo. There were some truly impressive machines from back in the day (we all know how great the OG GTR was in the 80's) but my point is that anything from 40 years ago cannot compete with an equivalent vehicle from now. A Testarossa can't hold a candle to a 458, a Monte Carlo wouldn't be as smooth, quiet or pleasant as a Lexus
Dam, i love this car body stile. I new about it before the movei Training Day with Denzel, but that is wen i fell in love with that car from the movie. Unfortuntately in Europe they are very scarce and also very very expensive even though they are in poor state some of them. You sir have made such and amazing decision picking this one up let alone it was your grandmothers and you have childhood memories with it. Amazing.
I love this thing so much. Instead of sanding and powder coating that frame I do kind of hope you put a modern chassis under this thing. I'm assuming it's going be a forever car, so it would definitely be worth it. Plus then you'd have modern suspension, brakes etccc..
Awesome! Can't wait to see it cleaned up and what your Grandma thinks of it! Maybe I'm seeing things, but did the BWM sitting in the garage go from White to Black?
Mk 3 or 4 Ford Granada, FD Vauxhall Victor, Vauxhall Cresta, Viva Coupe, Opel Manta GTE. We did have plenty of all of those but they all rusted away. FD victors have a very US dash, there’s not a 2 door but they even have a reverse lockout gear lever and fake wood.
Happy for you that you get to put your family's car back on the road that you have so many memories in after so many years. Definitely a special feeling.
Man, hearing you open the door on this thing and hearing the good old G-body door squeak makes me really miss my old 84 grand prix! it was my first car and was so much fun. glad to see you getting this car back in running order and wanting to use it like its meant to be instead of just sitting. keep up the great work!.
I have a 1985 SS Monte Carlo I bought new. White on maroon, I took it out today and the heater core started leaking. They are easy cars to work on for the most part. Congratulations on your SS!
I love this, can’t wait to see the clean up! I wouldn’t have been able to hold off. These kind a projects that have a meaning or sentimentality behind them show and are that much better and your excitement show in the videos. Congrats this is gonna be an awesome build!
Super rad buddy when I pulled my 84 c10 out of the woods 20 years the owner had it sitting literally did about the same work and the 305 fired up I was amazed…. I’d love to see that thing with those type of wheels just like a 2 or 3 piece design cool project buddy congrats can’t wait to see grandma cruising it !
Man this is like a dream situation, interior looks super clean and body looks solid. Just cleaning it up and some maintenence and you will have a beautiful sunday cruiser 🙌🏼
Derek from VGG is a legend. He would've said something like "check the digicools, sprakalators, fuel make it happener, put some good ol diesel oil in her, change the filtrey, put a wicks filter in her and carry a spare fuel pumpilator" 🤣
So rad! A little tip when fueling up. Use the gas cap on the right side of the plate when flipped down to hold it down. GM thought it out perfectly with those
I've always wanted this car! ❤️ My uncle Bill was restoring one and he painted it a midnight blue, rebuilt the motor and transmission, ever since then I was in love 🥰😍🚘❤️🤣 I'd still would love to have one @ that year model/ body style.
Man - You had / have one cool Grandma, Brother!! What a car! My Cousin in Delaware had one just like this. I think maybe it was an '86 or '87 Monte Carlo SS. White like this one, but had some red and black accents on it. The badging, etc. That thing roared, and I was always in awe of it - and of him, for driving it. He always seemed to have the chics checking it out too. Wow. Memories. This is a killer car, Brother. Love it, and CAN NOT wait to see it... or at least I hope I can see it, when the final version is rolling. Beautiful classic, and what memories you've got. Still making them with this classic American ride!
I love how simple an old Carbureted push-rod engine is. Did the same thing with a $350 1989 307ci Cadillac that was sitting in a field for about 10 years, just poured new gas down the carb and got some booster cables and it fired right up. Even the "Level ride" air shocks started pumping them selves up, but the front brakes were seized solid, easy fix. Also did the same with a 1972 Plymouth Duster 318 that sat for 7 years. The factory electric ignition box rotted out, just put another one on it and some gas and good to go. That Monte Carlo SS is really cool and has a great story, I'll be following along for sure
Looking forward to seeing this thing cleaned up. Definitely gonna be a good build series. A good friend in high school had an 85 many years ago. His was black and he put a small hood scoop on it( not the cowl style) . Always liked these and the Cutlass 442 👍😎
It’s possible, because the car was always loved, and taken care of thank you for all the great videos. Can’t wait to meet you someday at one of the events.
I am so excited 😆 she sounds great and looks even better! My Grandma also had one. I would have loved to get it as well! I am always on the look out for one of these!
Started watching your Channel back when you did the Cummins swap Ford. I am not a big drift fan but you have kept my interest piqued over the years and I've consistently watched your Channel. This is a project I'm truly excited about because I used to have one with t-tops and I wish I still had it.
Your memories have to just feel so good today! I can't wait to hear what your grandma is going to say. I am sure that she will be proud of you! Thanks for reminding me of easier days!
Quadrajets are notorious for leaking out the bottom and draining float bowls making cold starts hard. Your mechanical fuel pump has to fill the bowl again before it will start. It's also why a lot of qjet equipped cars seem extremely rich at idle. There's a continuous drip out the bottom into the plenum. There's an easy fix by pulling carb and epoxying the plugs that leak. Be worth doing if your gonna drive it much, all that raw fuel is hard on the engine. And it will start like brand new. Looking forward to this build very much. Cheers!
Hey man that's badass! Very excited for you young man! Can't wait to see the rest of the clean up of this fine GM and most importantly for it to again to turn heads.
