The ventriloquist's dummy really is one of the most remarkable pieces of art. Vastly underappreciated. It seems like it requires so much expertise in so many different categories: caricature sketching, carpentry, woodcarving, painting, casting, mechanics, upholstery, and God knows what all else.... It's really a lot like building a musical instrument sort of like a piano. Except rather than it being a musical instrument, it is a completely visual instrument played by a performer who uses their own voice to make it sing.
I love it. The mechanics, the upper lip movement, the whole thing reminds me of the figure in that old English and a great book, "Ventriloquixm for Beginneres " by Wil Holden. I made six figures myself for fun. None of them came out nearly as great as this one. Fantastic job. Thank you for sharing this. It was delightful.
What brand and type of paint is used to paint his face? My son wants a Slappy dummy for Christmas and I can’t find one anywhere so I purchased another dummy in hopes of painting it to look more like Slappy. 😬
I think that there is a lever that will move the eye section up and down, and that section is where the eye mech to look side to side and the blinking mech are, so it’s moving that entire section up and down, witch is why the eyelids also go down a little bit wen the eyes go up and down

The board then has a rod with a ring on the end wich goes all the way down right down to the controls where you can then put your finger in the ring and control the eyes. I hope this helped you. The maker has asked to keep his mechanics for the all around eye movements private so that part of the video has been left out, sorry.
