This is the second episode with the Jayco Class C that we rented to share different motorized RV experiences. We got the boys Subaru Crosstrek setup to be flat towed and took the Class C to Catalina State Park and Saguaro National Park. In this episode, we make our way Lost Dutchman State Park and provide a tour of the Class C. This trip has been riddled with setbacks and obstacles, but we're still grateful to share the experience to compare to other RVs we've had. We also share our weekend warrior checklist that you can download using the link above.

    I’m counting up the “glitches”:
    (1) Marc’s reservation snafu, part deux
    (2) Plastic cup winery tour
    (3) Artisan bread plastic knife massacre
    (4) Jack knife city
    (5) Key-pocalypse
    (6) Bonus: Persistent, ongoing navigational issues.
It’s glad to finally realize you’re human Marc.

After the massive amounts of TH-cam camping adventures I have watched, to list a couple, Long Long Honeymoon, Mortons on the Move, etc., this video captures the "pros" dealing with setbacks in their RV experience! You guys are willing to "push the envelope" by sharing your rental experiences on the Class A, B & C rigs (As a retired military guy - I think Trish deserves a medal or two for all the unique challenges she has agreed to participate - in particular when you downsized to a tear drop trailer). I imagine that if you owned these rigs the story would be much different! One turn with that Class C with the subaru attached cause you so much of a problem, obtaining gas was challenging, - I think this is the classic video for all RV'ers, both newbies and veterans to watch. You guys are great! Thank you for sharing the stories, your lives, enthusiasm, ideas, recommendations and sense of humor!

You finally understand MY pain! We pull an F150 behind a 35' Class A gasser. Fueling up requires a plan. A good plan. We often pull into a gas station and immediately know this ain't gonna work. We go around and down the road to the next potential fueling experience. It's the main reason I want a diesel motorhome. I can use the truck lanes and get fuel almost anywhere. The RV fueling lanes are coming slowly and hopefully, surely. It is a constant challenge for gassers. My Navi-Gatrix is pretty good at looking at the satellite shots of stations, which gives a pretty good first glance at probabilities. But it doesn't tell how crowded it is when you get there. Keep the videos coming...we LOVE them.

Drove my first Class C pulling a toad and learned quickly that finding or getting gas was a pain in the ass. Found that independent gas stations were usually the best to get in and out of. I also found myself in one of those places where I couldn't go forward or back up. Took a chance and backed up a little bit and was able to get out. Wife was not happy but we were blocking traffic.

We always used a truck stop when we fill up a Class C. I now have a Class A and will be going back to the Class C when I retire. So much easier to maneuver than a Class A. My wife will not drive the Class A but feels like she is driving my truck when she drives a Class C. Class C also has more more beds for families. I have to say that the shot of Charlie on Caleb's lap was awesome.

Getting fuel has been the biggest cause of anxiety for me in our family’s camping evolution. 4 rigs later I think we’ve found our sweet spot with the medium sized class A diesel, so I can safely assume we will fit into any truck stop and they are fairly easy to find along the highways. Also not being able to reverse is always on my mind, so you definitely have to be paying attention to the directions with a tow vehicle. Otherwise, we love having the space for the kids to stretch out on the couch (still in a seat belt) or have lunch at the dinette while we’re driving long distance.

Yes, everything is pointy in that part of the world. The mountains are pointy, the lizards are pointy, and the plants are pointy. Even the creosote bushes attacked me. And, yes, I was accosted by “jumping cactus” - spikes went through the sides of my hiking boots. Next time I visit, I’m bringing a mace just to keep up.

Trish- I saw you using rocks to hols your tablecloth down. I'm not sure where she got them, but, my mom uses metal clips, kinda shaped like a squared-off "J" or "C", flat, about 3/4 inch wide, thin sprin steel. They slip over the table, long side on top, holding the cloth to the table. Wind? No problem. If I had to guess, they would have been a camping world or target thing. They work a treat.

I am soon to retire and own a 5th wheel and travel, but most of my summers have been spent renting 40+ ft sailboats and catamarans and spending a week or 2 at Catalina island. You have to not only bring your own bedding and Kitchen stuff, and find room for a weeks worth of food, you need to hope that the engines work, there are no holes in the boat and the propellers don't fall off. Yes it has all happened in my 40 years of sailing. One of the problems with being on a boat is nothing goes overboard, 6 people make a lot of garbage, and water bottles are never aloud on my boat.

I've had camping trips like that where it seems that everything is tough and not working out like it should, but in the end I always look at the bright side and think back on what was nice and look past the crazy stuff. I also love that Charlie is always with you guys and it reminds me of my two Border Collies that would both try to sit on my lap while driving which makes for an interesting time!!

You mentioned rattlesnakes like to hang out on rocks to get warm. In SoCal it isn't unusual to find them basking on the trail during the cooler days in Spring and Fall. They come out of the brush and feel the heat on the trail and stop and go to sleep. If I'm hiking I'll reach out with my pole and tickle them. They usually groggily wake up and move off of the trail. Rarely do they show any attitude. Now when I'm mountain biking I'll go around them if I can but I have run over a few over the years.

We love the “memories “ of this trip. With all the advice and tips that you have given all of us over the years, I have one for you. We also have a toad behind the RV. I have mastered the tools and skills needed to disconnect in 2 to 3 minutes or less. It not only lets you backup, but also turn around in a parking lot that is way too small to swing around in. Again this episode is lots of laughs.

Easy going, free spirited, kind, full of joy! You guys should be so proud! Of all your kids, not just Caleb! Although he is our favorite! Shhhh 🤫🤫. 🤣🤣

Always makes my Sunday evenings better when KYD is on. I have so many fond memories as a kid of my grandparents taking me places in the class c. I remember being up in the loft bed looking out and being enamored by the beauty of our American landscape. I especially loved when heading to Morro Bay and getting to see the top of the 3 power stacks and the Morro Rock, I knew we were almost home. Another great adventure ❤️❤️❤️

That’s why you run the house ac with the generator running while you drive. Love KYD but total noobs at motor home life and flat towing, 😂

    • @jeromep
      @jeromep 3 ปีที่แล้ว

@@drinkinslim if it’s hot out, and let’s say it is morning, your house temp is ok, you’ll want to kick on your genset and run your roof A/Cs while you are underway to keep the inside of the house cool or at a decent temp. If you don’t you may never get the temp down until night comes and you hope it cools off. Plus, if you are dry camping, like they are, there are usually generator hours, and you’ll want to make sure you get the house temp down before you have to turn off and all you have is your 12v and your vent fans.

For the NO BACKUP, wear on the tow vehicle and other reasons we purchased an new aluminum tilt bed trailer for about the same price as the flat tow bar, brakes etc. Best decision ever. Need to back up, no problem, yes trailer tires are cheaper than auto tires and on and on. The only down side is sometimes (almost never because our Tiffin is only 31.5’) there is not enough room at camp site so I use the car to tow the trailer to overflow parking and so far they have told us then is no charge for a trailer in overflow. Because I know I can back up and the Tiffin has air suspension that can be manually adjusted at slow speeds we go all kinds of crazy places. The trailer is easy to load and has mounted retracting straps making load and unload time comparable or maybe even be less than a tow bar. BTW, Love the KYD hat!!!

Seeing you get stuck going in the gas station brings back my favorite pet peeve, I have a diesel truck like you and invariably someone is parked in front of the one diesel pump in a Honda civic and they are inside shopping or getting a lunch or scratching tickets! I have actually gone in and tracked them down and politely asked them to pull up not always I might add with good results! We try to avoid truck stops because of their prices but they can be just as bad with inconsiderate drivers lol. Joys of rving!! Happy trails

8:10 You should look into (Cross Connection) In plumbing, in TH-cam, It doesn't matter if you use your own hose, if any bone head ever use that hose bibb to rinse off their drain hose and it doesn't have a backflow preventer it will be contaminated, I rather fill up at a playground or an RV space that has water but no sewer.
