I appreciate your comments on homeschooling. I home schooled my daughter from 5th grade up starting in 1993 before online was available. Because of this I was able to use the curriculum that best fit her learning style. Like you said, it exposes them to so much more than just the classroom experience. I don't regret making this choice. BTW she was the one who begged to be home schooled. :)
Thank you for keeping solo travelers in mind. Also I have been a motorized RV traveler for years, moving to a trailer. One other negative to motorized is that for day trips you must pack up the interior to drive, remove chalks, hooks ups etc. as it is your only vehicle. With a trailer the set up stays and you zip off in your car/truck. You two are a pleasure to watch and listen to.

I actually bought a Blackstone griddle top and put it on my propane grill. So whenever I want to use it I just attached to my propane grill and heat it up and then I’m able to use it. But I don’t have the space to have a grill and a black stove so I decided to put the two together. Works really well.
We love your blogs and have been fans for 3 years. We started in a 32 foot class C motorhome for 10 years, 2 years with a 27 ft. Toy hauler and we have been traveling in a 350 Ford dually with a truck camper for the last 3 years and absolutely love the portability. We are retired and are 50/50 travelers. The size of the trailer matters a ton in this. We needed a toy hauler that could fit a 4 seater sxs, so our travel trailer was 36’ long. It was a nightmare hauling it anywhere. Now we have a 43’ fifth wheel and there is no comparison. So much easier to tow and park.
So I have a 22 inch Blackstone adventure griddle that I made breakfast on this morning pancakes and sausage. My kids and I had dinner in the travel trailer in our driveway. And we had a campfire tonight. This video is very relevant today lol
Great video, as always. One thing I will heartily recommend is, once you have narrowed down your choices, do what they said and go to an RV show or dealership where you can go directly from one to the other. In our case, it made the choice crystal clear. My wife and I both had our ideas on which floorplan was best for us. We both had good points but going from one right to the other made the differences stark and we made up our minds within 3 minutes of walking into the second unit. Well worth doing it this way.

Spot on with regards to towable vs motorized. We always had towable RV’s and decided to “move up” to a large Jayco Greyhawk Prestige, Class-C in 2022. Here we are in 2024, back in a great Rockwood towable. Love your videos. Keep up the good work.

I have had travel trailers and 5th wheels and my choice is 5th wheel. Thank you for mentioning the level mate pro. Since it's only myself and finding areas that are very uneven it will make life much easier.

For sure the memories are the key. Our best memories when the kids were young were with our smallest unit, pop up trailer. Now retired with a 5th Wheel and opportunity to have time with our granddaughter. Just spent the weekend with the family camping and being Grandpa is great and another chapter in life. Safe travels.

Upgrading our tow vehicle to a 3/4 ton diesel may be exactly what we need to try next. You're right, when people upgrade their tow vehicles they typically go to a fifth wheel as well. That's exactly what we were considering until we watched this video. Perhaps the truck first and seeing how things go will help us decide if we will continue in a travel trailer or jump to a fifth wheel. We're still new to this so that was very helpful. Nice to know I wasn't doing something wrong while driving it as well. Referring to the tractor trailers going by. I call it the pull and push. So everyone experiences that , whew !
I have been pulling my Travel Trailer for 6 years with my 1500. I just upgraded to a dually truck 3500 and I pulled my Travel trailer. You guys are so right about the difference already. Great ideas thank you for all your help and videos that had help me start making the changes.

Well done Marc and Trish. Over the years you all have shared your enthusiasm and technical tips. This video reveals that you have a wealth of wisdom based on experience, and have the communication talents to convey complicated concepts in a very efficient manner. You have managed to maintain vitality in your productions. I can appreciate your passion for the toys and techno obsession; but, it is clear that your priority is on family, health, and adventure. An adventure can be had out of a Ford Pinto or a million dollar Class A Motorhome. Almost 30 years in Alaska and recent retirement gives us many options. In brief, a great option that seems to work for us is a 1-ton diesel Megacab with a light weight, small cabover camper (bathroonm, stove, fridge, and bed) pulling a 28 ft trailer (lots of creature comforts). Lynsey and I have room for our kids that are still at home (12 and 16 yo), and dog. With kids, the cabover camper gives Lynsey and me necessary physical separation (privacy) from the family chaos. The kids are happy to have us out of their hair for the afternoon. Anyway, appreciate your productions and your viewers' constructive comments & experiences. Prayers for your health and prosperity.

My husband and I just bought our first RV last night to start full time living in June and even though we have been researching and watching so many TH-cam videos and reading and daydreaming conversations for a couple years now, I couldn’t sleep last night. 😬😬😬😬. I used the Andersen levelers before we got Auto leveling. We ran into a problem once with the auto level where the front was much lower than the back and the front legs had to come all the way out. Since we don't have a drop frame it was a full extension and got stuck. We bought 2 Andersen jack blocks for the front and put snap pads on the back and have had no problems since. I personally won't have a camper without auto level again because you don't have to bend over to get the stabilizers down. Saves lots of back pain. Love you're videos but wanted to share what I had learned.

Travel trailer for me, then I can use the truck bed for truck stuff (gear hauling, just like your do) and not have a 5th wheel hitch to remove when I'm home.
Anderson hitch works great for us. Removes once we get on site to load up ATV if needed. Stays in the bed, just push all the way forward and park over it in bed of truck.
We prefer the camp chef and use it regularly. We carry a 14" Campchef stove, griddle, grill box and it works for us. We can store it all in our crossover compartment. We normally, hook into our travel trailers propane but on our extended trips, we use a Mr. Heater Tree with a lantern on top and power our propane stove from a larger 10 gallon propane tank. What works for us may not work for you, we found the adjustable legs help with the leveling.
Video uploading fulltime: Multitasking: You use the jetpack at the grocery store while the wife is shopping or at a nice diner while you are enjoying the ambiance. Great advice (during the education info) we're always adjusting and tweaking in all of the things we do.
On an average, home schooled kids have a higher entrance level into college. We are tricking out my husbands work van at retirement (couple of years) These are all great products (I have a couple of them) but won't be able to fit them in that lifestyle.. I will just be jealous of you for a bit now ;)
I know exactly what you mean. My son and I love to go to RV shows. And every time I see a few elements in one trailer or another that I like better. But over all the one we own still fits us best. Our family of 5, now 4 adults and one giant 14 year old camp around our province usually a week at a time over the summers. We all fit!!! It is small enough that as our kids can't go the hubby and I will be very comfortable. Last year we travelled 13000 km in 22 day from Southern Ontario to Carmacks and Whitehouse Yukon. It was an amazing, but challenging trip. Waiting to purchase new rig then plan to do big road trip again. For now short week trips are good as we modify interior to work better. I am currently living in it in my driveway to self isolate as I am a nurse trying to protect family from possibility of CoVid as it is in my workplace. Love seeing where you guys travel. Nice comparison, you covered most the of the differences. For leveling, don't forget, leveling the tires only doesn't give you a firm platform like hydraulic auto leveling. As people more around in the trailer everyone feels it. It often feels like an earthquake shake inside. The ability to potty and get food/drinks while moving was our deciding factor go go with a motorhome, as well as being faster to setup and breakdown. However, talking in a motorhome while underway isn't as easy as a nice truck, unless you spend $250K+ for a nice diesel pusher motorhome, with the motor in the back.
All good advice. Especially the one "start with what works now". Being a tourist I was looking into renting an RV but it costs USD 150 to 200 per night. Then you have to add fuel, RV parks, food ... does not work for me. But renting a truck with hitch and buying a small trailer, travel for 6 months then storing it and do it again the following year will work.
If you go to dollar tree you buy 6 stainless steel food scrapers for $1 each then you can use them around the sides to block the wind plus scrap the griddle
Schooling vs unschooling. Children learn informally in any situation, but when caregivers are open to real learning opportunities, everyone gets a rich, authentic education. Our children then learn what they need to know/do at the time which is right for them. The formal curriculum basics become easier to teach because they are relevant and purposeful. However it takes, energetic, relaxed and sensitive caregivers to be aware and to motivate. People with full or part time work commitments usually need the support of good home school programmes. I'm glad you were able to move past the 'trolls' Trish and Marc, because you intuitively understood the learning needs of your children and listened to them. Congratulations for the wonderful successes your family has experienced. By the way, I'm a retired NZ primary school teacher with a background in traditional education but also some experience with untraditional approaches to learning.
most if not all state parks have showers so if conserving water is an issue you can always use them, and some are really nice, Maryland has nice showers at least the two parks I stayed at.
Not all motor homes (Class A,B,C), like mine/ours have the stupid layout where slide outs *must* be opened in order to function. With seven of us, it was the right solution! - - Ours is set up perfectly: - Passengers can to eat, sleep, read and play games, as well as view the scenery while under way but conversation is still possible. - The kitchen and bathroom at the rear is perfect for access while in motion. - We could, and did, do food prep all the time. - The boys were raised with "travel manners" and were allowed get to get up for snacks, etc. or else they were seat-belted in place until they behaved "time out"). - Stops were determined by something other than bladder capacity. - We three drivers could rotate conveniently, two on & one off, often sleeping, for longer hauls. - - Major down sizes that I didn't catch are that you: - cannot unhook from it and go into town unless you bring along another mode of transportation, - cannot access many parking lots/garages, - cannot go through some tunnels or over some bridges, - must have somewhere to store it if you live in many condo or gated communities.
A major plus to a TT/5th wheel trailer vs MH is if you breakdown your motorhome usually goes into a shop and you go to a hotel which leaves most of your stuff locked up whereas your travel trailer can be setup at an RV park while you wait for iyour tow vehicle to be repaired.
On the topic of campfires, we split the difference between propane and real wood by using Java logs or Duraflame logs. You get much the same ambiance as with wood, but with less smoke, less mess, and less tending. But it is more expensive.
Excellent video, good comparisons. You guys have done almost all styles of RV's and to the extreme. We chose the 5th wheel for space, towing, Maintenance costs and we dont have to tow a vehicle. The best thing is our house just sold, we are retired and on the road in June. Can't wait, as Roy Rogers said Happy Trails to you.
Agree on the Camp Chef, I had the 3 burner with the 3 burner griddle, loved it, great stove and griddle. But I arrived at the same conclusion after a while, when I first started I'd set it up immediately and then most often never used it, then I stopped putting it up, even for longer trips, then it became a thing that took up a lot of space in my bay, and they are heaaavvyy. I used it a couple of times to make breakfast for like 4 camps, works great, just it is cumbersome and so just like every other thing pretty much, have to decide what each person's needs are like you always say. I have a small 2 burner now, table top, works for my needs perfectly. Great commentary on all these subjects!

Great video. I especially agree on getting the tow vehicle right. Diesel makes a tremendous difference, we went from gas 3/4 ton to diesel 3/4 ton, made the towing effortless. Now in in a Ram one ton and a Grand Design 303RLS. Smooth towing. Match up the system for safety and to decrease stress. Happy Trails.
So we use a Tri-Leveler. It gives more range then the Anderson, and it is not as complex to setup. Because you only have to raise one tire. We also use a Reese dual cam straight line anti-sway. And we have never in seven years felt anything from trucks passing us. It’s not a Hensley arrow. But it’s the next best thing.
Dad used to have a 33' diesel pusher. We have a travel trailer. Both have their perks. No you don't cook a pizza going down the road but you do go to the fridge and grab a soda. Sleeping over the purring engine is pretty good too (if you don't mind no seatbelts). The height of the ride, size of the windshield and views you get are far superior in a Class A motorhome. Also, you don't fatigue while driving near as much in a nice Class A. I think if I were full timing and had endless money I would go with a Class A motorhome. As a weekend warrior though, travel trailer makes total sense. Someone else here mentioned it....with a travel trailer/truck, the truck is free to do 26 other truck duties. A motorhome sits when not in use and that engine/transmission is going to waste. Not to mention an RV is a complex vehicle all by itself. Adding a power train to it makes it even more complicated and prone for breakdowns.

You can also use W.A.T.E.R. which stands for "Walk Around The Entire Rig" which is good for tight situations and areas where there is somethings that cant be seen from the mirrors of the truck
I have the multitask butane torch, This is UK/europe a self lighting plumbers blow torch with an easy to replace cartridge available in any camper stores , DIY store or a plumber depot. Its a simple turn-on press the spark button then instant fire only found out this a few years back when I run out of the parrifin style b/bq lighters had the same one over 5 years now still going strong
I just bought my 5th wheel, we have had 3 bumper pulls, in the end, it is what works best for you. I loved our travel trailers and I love our 5th wheel. At some point, I will get tired of the stairs and go back to a travel trailer. Most of the people I hear complaining about the way their trailer pulls don't have a weight distributing hitch or a sway bar, and they are pulling it with a soft sprung half ton truck.

I have that small Traeger, and use it camping very often, almost every night. From salmon to steak, it is excellent! Not so great for burgers, but I would not camp without it. I had a 20’ trailer, it got a spot!

Go to an rv show, go walk through some rvs. What simple and EFFECTIVE advice. I found thee trailer i am going to buy. Hell or high water lol. Thank you. I was so foggy on what i wanted for me and the kids. Now its crystal.
RV parks are good and convenient if you need to use your rv as a hotel. Like when visiting family or going to some convention or concert. You can use your rv two ways as a camper, or as a mobile private hotel and they both have there place in the itinerary.
5th Wheels do have higher ceilings, but you can also get that with a larger travel trailer toy hauler. I recently bought a 34' TT toy hauler and the ceilings are over 8' feet, with the exception of the front bedroom.
So with three boys I just had to pause the video and look up the tuition for Whitmore Academy and I am so jealous. Now that my kids have been learning online for 9 weeks it raises a lot of questions. Great value in the Whitmore online vs traditional school tuition costs.
Give the Scottle another shot. Best stir fry veggies you can make on the road. There are hot spots, trick is to keep the food moving around. It's just like using a wok, move the faster cooking items to the outside of the scottle, while the slower cookers stay in the center where the heat is concentrated. Love the video.
If you want a smoker and grill that you can use even without electric hookups the Akorn Jr is a great small Kamado style unit at only $150. The only downside is with my Chevy 1500 it won't fit under the backflip G2, if I was going to full-time I'd just shorten the legs a bit to make it fit, for now it transports in the shower tub.

I went from a class A to an Airstream. The class A was great, but too expensive to maintain for just me. The Airstream has everything I "need". BTW, "level" is relative. I took a bubble level and discovered the floor is not exactly like the counter, which is slightly off from the table. My benchmark is when the bathroom door stays open where you leave it. I got the 'Level Mate Pro' also. Less getting in and out of the truck!
I lived in a 31' bumper-pull for 8 months this past year and I agree with so many things you said in this video... except I will always miss the games the kids played while i drove... I miss asking a kid to grab me some food or something while we were driving... i do love driving a class-c
Great Video guys, its always fun seeing some of the older clips and seeing how much you all have changed from season 1. We have had Class A, Travel Trailer and Fifth wheel. I agree with all your pro's and con's. I would say the main reason we went toward trailers was to have a vehicle the family fit in when we got to our destinations. The move to the Fifth wheel was more about getting all the living(mostly Sleeping space) for all of us and staying in as short of a trailer as we could. To get a bunk house on a bumper pull and have or own room everything was pretty much over 35 ft and we stayed under that by going with the Fifth Wheel

I LOL at the deep breath with the Treager. I have a Pit Boss. I do the same thing! The dutch oven is BOSS too, and with a tripod to suspend it, cooking over a firepit is awesome. Great comments on the TT vs 5th. You are right, just replacing the TV can make all the difference in the world. We have a Coleman 274BH that I tow with an F150. It took a bit getting the right WDH on it, but once I did, it handles quite well. Then we got an F350 as a second vehicle. the difference is remarkable. With the F150 you know there is a trailer back there, even with it perfectly set up. Same trailer with the F350, trailer? What trailer? We are currently selling the trailer and considering a 5th wheel, mainly because there is more room for the same behind the bumper length. That and the truck came with a 5th wheel already set up. We have not ruled out another Conventional tow though, just depends on like and price. Good video, got a lot of good ideas for our future trips, especially liked the leveling tool.

One thing that I have to commend you on is that you are great parents and have raised your kids well. I believe they are all on their way to great futures. Job well done. Thanks for showing the Anderson Blocks and Level Mate Pro. I have purchased those for when I get my rig. I will be traveling solo with 3 cats and a dog, so they will not be much help in this area. I'm going with a travel trailer because I want the smaller trailer. My plan is to primarily be boondocking and finding remote smaller places to camp.
So well put together and informative.. Quite a while back I made a remark, about your site was more for the folks with lots of money. You have won me over with your whole approach. I can now see it has been one of discovery, (I can't fault you for buying rigs in your price range). One major con for a motor home for me at least would be that your home and your vehicle are tied together. Meaning for repairs or when it has to go into the shop you loose your house as well. All motorized vehicles breakdown at some point and having a motorized home would make it that much worse. At least with a tow vehicle and a trailer/5th wheel I can get the RV to somewhere close to where my truck is being worked on and be comfortable in it as I wait on the repair with all my stuff and sleep in my own bed...
100% spot on with the levelmate pro and the anderson levelers. I'll go 1/4 in higher on the levelmate because, if ya noticed when you disconnected, it settles down a tad. We bring a propane fire pit with us. I love the convenience, I always say my wife loves the "idea" of a fire. By the time it's dark and supper is over and cleaned up and ready to sit by the fire, she is ready to go to sleep shortly after . HAHA I dont always want to stay up for a while and the pour water over it (we have to drown fires in our area) and get the smell from that all over. Pure convenience but in the spring and fall when I get up early to let the dogs out, I'll fire it up while they are doing they're thing to get warm and it does not produce near the heat youd get from a wood fire. Wood has more BTUs than propane.
Our only regret in purchasing the gas version of the GMC 3500 is fueling up while towing our fifth wheel, almost every diesel pump has space for big rigs while gas pumps can be tricky sometimes; in a few rural areas we've had to unhitch to gas up. Thanks for another great video!

I appreciate your comments on homeschooling. I home schooled my daughter from 5th grade up starting in 1993 before online was available. Because of this I was able to use the curriculum that best fit her learning style. Like you said, it exposes them to so much more than just the classroom experience. I don't regret making this choice. BTW she was the one who begged to be home schooled. :)
Thank you for keeping solo travelers in mind. Also I have been a motorized RV traveler for years, moving to a trailer. One other negative to motorized is that for day trips you must pack up the interior to drive, remove chalks, hooks ups etc. as it is your only vehicle. With a trailer the set up stays and you zip off in your car/truck. You two are a pleasure to watch and listen to.

I actually bought a Blackstone griddle top and put it on my propane grill. So whenever I want to use it I just attached to my propane grill and heat it up and then I’m able to use it. But I don’t have the space to have a grill and a black stove so I decided to put the two together. Works really well.
We love your blogs and have been fans for 3 years. We started in a 32 foot class C motorhome for 10 years, 2 years with a 27 ft. Toy hauler and we have been traveling in a 350 Ford dually with a truck camper for the last 3 years and absolutely love the portability. We are retired and are 50/50 travelers. The size of the trailer matters a ton in this. We needed a toy hauler that could fit a 4 seater sxs, so our travel trailer was 36’ long. It was a nightmare hauling it anywhere. Now we have a 43’ fifth wheel and there is no comparison. So much easier to tow and park.
So I have a 22 inch Blackstone adventure griddle that I made breakfast on this morning pancakes and sausage. My kids and I had dinner in the travel trailer in our driveway. And we had a campfire tonight. This video is very relevant today lol
Great video, as always. One thing I will heartily recommend is, once you have narrowed down your choices, do what they said and go to an RV show or dealership where you can go directly from one to the other. In our case, it made the choice crystal clear. My wife and I both had our ideas on which floorplan was best for us. We both had good points but going from one right to the other made the differences stark and we made up our minds within 3 minutes of walking into the second unit. Well worth doing it this way.

Spot on with regards to towable vs motorized. We always had towable RV’s and decided to “move up” to a large Jayco Greyhawk Prestige, Class-C in 2022. Here we are in 2024, back in a great Rockwood towable. Love your videos. Keep up the good work.

I have had travel trailers and 5th wheels and my choice is 5th wheel. Thank you for mentioning the level mate pro. Since it's only myself and finding areas that are very uneven it will make life much easier.
Does the level mate pro work without wifi or cell service? We go to a lot of state parks and areas without good reception.

For sure the memories are the key. Our best memories when the kids were young were with our smallest unit, pop up trailer. Now retired with a 5th Wheel and opportunity to have time with our granddaughter. Just spent the weekend with the family camping and being Grandpa is great and another chapter in life. Safe travels.

Upgrading our tow vehicle to a 3/4 ton diesel may be exactly what we need to try next. You're right, when people upgrade their tow vehicles they typically go to a fifth wheel as well. That's exactly what we were considering until we watched this video. Perhaps the truck first and seeing how things go will help us decide if we will continue in a travel trailer or jump to a fifth wheel. We're still new to this so that was very helpful. Nice to know I wasn't doing something wrong while driving it as well. Referring to the tractor trailers going by. I call it the pull and push. So everyone experiences that , whew !
I have been pulling my Travel Trailer for 6 years with my 1500. I just upgraded to a dually truck 3500 and I pulled my Travel trailer. You guys are so right about the difference already. Great ideas thank you for all your help and videos that had help me start making the changes.

Well done Marc and Trish. Over the years you all have shared your enthusiasm and technical tips. This video reveals that you have a wealth of wisdom based on experience, and have the communication talents to convey complicated concepts in a very efficient manner. You have managed to maintain vitality in your productions. I can appreciate your passion for the toys and techno obsession; but, it is clear that your priority is on family, health, and adventure. An adventure can be had out of a Ford Pinto or a million dollar Class A Motorhome. Almost 30 years in Alaska and recent retirement gives us many options. In brief, a great option that seems to work for us is a 1-ton diesel Megacab with a light weight, small cabover camper (bathroonm, stove, fridge, and bed) pulling a 28 ft trailer (lots of creature comforts). Lynsey and I have room for our kids that are still at home (12 and 16 yo), and dog. With kids, the cabover camper gives Lynsey and me necessary physical separation (privacy) from the family chaos. The kids are happy to have us out of their hair for the afternoon. Anyway, appreciate your productions and your viewers' constructive comments & experiences. Prayers for your health and prosperity.

I used the Andersen levelers before we got Auto leveling. We ran into a problem once with the auto level where the front was much lower than the back and the front legs had to come all the way out. Since we don't have a drop frame it was a full extension and got stuck. We bought 2 Andersen jack blocks for the front and put snap pads on the back and have had no problems since. I personally won't have a camper without auto level again because you don't have to bend over to get the stabilizers down. Saves lots of back pain. Love you're videos but wanted to share what I had learned.

Travel trailer for me, then I can use the truck bed for truck stuff (gear hauling, just like your do) and not have a 5th wheel hitch to remove when I'm home.

Anderson hitch works great for us. Removes once we get on site to load up ATV if needed. Stays in the bed, just push all the way forward and park over it in bed of truck.
We prefer the camp chef and use it regularly. We carry a 14" Campchef stove, griddle, grill box and it works for us. We can store it all in our crossover compartment. We normally, hook into our travel trailers propane but on our extended trips, we use a Mr. Heater Tree with a lantern on top and power our propane stove from a larger 10 gallon propane tank. What works for us may not work for you, we found the adjustable legs help with the leveling.
Video uploading fulltime: Multitasking: You use the jetpack at the grocery store while the wife is shopping or at a nice diner while you are enjoying the ambiance. Great advice (during the education info) we're always adjusting and tweaking in all of the things we do.
On an average, home schooled kids have a higher entrance level into college. We are tricking out my husbands work van at retirement (couple of years) These are all great products (I have a couple of them) but won't be able to fit them in that lifestyle.. I will just be jealous of you for a bit now ;)

I know exactly what you mean. My son and I love to go to RV shows. And every time I see a few elements in one trailer or another that I like better. But over all the one we own still fits us best. Our family of 5, now 4 adults and one giant 14 year old camp around our province usually a week at a time over the summers. We all fit!!! It is small enough that as our kids can't go the hubby and I will be very comfortable. Last year we travelled 13000 km in 22 day from Southern Ontario to Carmacks and Whitehouse Yukon. It was an amazing, but challenging trip. Waiting to purchase new rig then plan to do big road trip again. For now short week trips are good as we modify interior to work better. I am currently living in it in my driveway to self isolate as I am a nurse trying to protect family from possibility of CoVid as it is in my workplace. Love seeing where you guys travel. Giving me lots of ideas of places to go and tips to do it safely.

Nice comparison, you covered most the of the differences. For leveling, don't forget, leveling the tires only doesn't give you a firm platform like hydraulic auto leveling. As people more around in the trailer everyone feels it. It often feels like an earthquake shake inside. The ability to potty and get food/drinks while moving was our deciding factor go go with a motorhome, as well as being faster to setup and breakdown. However, talking in a motorhome while underway isn't as easy as a nice truck, unless you spend $250K+ for a nice diesel pusher motorhome, with the motor in the back.
All good advice. Especially the one "start with what works now". Being a tourist I was looking into renting an RV but it costs USD 150 to 200 per night. Then you have to add fuel, RV parks, food ... does not work for me. But renting a truck with hitch and buying a small trailer, travel for 6 months then storing it and do it again the following year will work.
If you go to dollar tree you buy 6 stainless steel food scrapers for $1 each then you can use them around the sides to block the wind plus scrap the griddle

Schooling vs unschooling. Children learn informally in any situation, but when caregivers are open to real learning opportunities, everyone gets a rich, authentic education. Our children then learn what they need to know/do at the time which is right for them. The formal curriculum basics become easier to teach because they are relevant and purposeful. However it takes, energetic, relaxed and sensitive caregivers to be aware and to motivate. People with full or part time work commitments usually need the support of good home school programmes. I'm glad you were able to move past the 'trolls' Trish and Marc, because you intuitively understood the learning needs of your children and listened to them. Congratulations for the wonderful successes your family has experienced. By the way, I'm a retired NZ primary school teacher with a background in traditional education but also some experience with untraditional approaches to learning.
most if not all state parks have showers so if conserving water is an issue you can always use them, and some are really nice, Maryland has nice showers at least the two parks I stayed at.
Not all motor homes (Class A,B,C), like mine/ours have the stupid layout where slide outs *must* be opened in order to function. With seven of us, it was the right solution!

Ours is set up perfectly:
- Passengers can to eat, sleep, read and play games, as well as view the scenery while under way but conversation is still possible.
- The kitchen and bathroom at the rear is perfect for access while in motion.
- We could, and did, do food prep all the time.
- The boys were raised with "travel manners" and were allowed get to get up for snacks, etc. or else they were seat-belted in place until they behaved "time out").
- Stops were determined by something other than bladder capacity.
- We three drivers could rotate conveniently, two on & one off, often sleeping, for longer hauls.

Major down sizes that I didn't catch are that you:
- cannot unhook from it and go into town unless you bring along another mode of transportation,
- cannot access many parking lots/garages,
- cannot go through some tunnels or over some bridges,
- must have somewhere to store it if you live in many condo or gated communities.
The way Marc locks eyes on you, he’s still smitten. You two are the most authentic couple on the Tube.
A major plus to a TT/5th wheel trailer vs MH is if you breakdown your motorhome usually goes into a shop and you go to a hotel which leaves most of your stuff locked up whereas your travel trailer can be setup at an RV park while you wait for iyour tow vehicle to be repaired.

On the topic of campfires, we split the difference between propane and real wood by using Java logs or Duraflame logs. You get much the same ambiance as with wood, but with less smoke, less mess, and less tending. But it is more expensive.
Excellent video, good comparisons. You guys have done almost all styles of RV's and to the extreme. We chose the 5th wheel for space, towing, Maintenance costs and we dont have to tow a vehicle. The best thing is our house just sold, we are retired and on the road in June. Can't wait, as Roy Rogers said Happy Trails to you.
Agree on the Camp Chef, I had the 3 burner with the 3 burner griddle, loved it, great stove and griddle. But I arrived at the same conclusion after a while, when I first started I'd set it up immediately and then most often never used it, then I stopped putting it up, even for longer trips, then it became a thing that took up a lot of space in my bay, and they are heaaavvyy. I used it a couple of times to make breakfast for like 4 camps, works great, just it is cumbersome and so just like every other thing pretty much, have to decide what each person's needs are like you always say. I have a small 2 burner now, table top, works for my needs perfectly.

Great video. I especially agree on getting the tow vehicle right. Diesel makes a tremendous difference, we went from gas 3/4 ton to diesel 3/4 ton, made the towing effortless. Now in in a Ram one ton and a Grand Design 303RLS. Smooth towing. Match up the system for safety and to decrease stress. Happy Trails.
So we use a Tri-Leveler. It gives more range then the Anderson, and it is not as complex to setup. Because you only have to raise one tire. We also use a Reese dual cam straight line anti-sway. And we have never in seven years felt anything from trucks passing us. It’s not a Hensley arrow. But it’s the next best thing.
Dad used to have a 33' diesel pusher. We have a travel trailer. Both have their perks. No you don't cook a pizza going down the road but you do go to the fridge and grab a soda. Sleeping over the purring engine is pretty good too (if you don't mind no seatbelts). The height of the ride, size of the windshield and views you get are far superior in a Class A motorhome. Also, you don't fatigue while driving near as much in a nice Class A. I think if I were full timing and had endless money I would go with a Class A motorhome. As a weekend warrior though, travel trailer makes total sense. Someone else here mentioned it....with a travel trailer/truck, the truck is free to do 26 other truck duties. A motorhome sits when not in use and that engine/transmission is going to waste. Not to mention an RV is a complex vehicle all by itself. Adding a power train to it makes it even more complicated and prone for breakdowns.

You can also use W.A.T.E.R. which stands for "Walk Around The Entire Rig" which is good for tight situations and areas where there is somethings that cant be seen from the mirrors of the truck
I have the multitask butane torch, This is UK/europe a self lighting plumbers blow torch with an easy to replace cartridge available in any camper stores , DIY store or a plumber depot. Its a simple turn-on press the spark button then instant fire only found out this a few years back when I run out of the parrifin style b/bq lighters had the same one over 5 years now still going strong
I just bought my 5th wheel, we have had 3 bumper pulls, in the end, it is what works best for you. I loved our travel trailers and I love our 5th wheel. At some point, I will get tired of the stairs and go back to a travel trailer. Most of the people I hear complaining about the way their trailer pulls don't have a weight distributing hitch or a sway bar, and they are pulling it with a soft sprung half ton truck.

I love my Andersson Levelers. Besides using a level in the side wall, I also may use a can of soda rolling on the floor to check for level.
I have that small Traeger, and use it camping very often, almost every night. From salmon to steak, it is excellent! Not so great for burgers, but I would not camp without it. I had a 20’ trailer, it got a spot!

Go to an rv show, go walk through some rvs. What simple and EFFECTIVE advice. I found thee trailer i am going to buy. Hell or high water lol. Thank you. I was so foggy on what i wanted for me and the kids. Now its crystal.
RV parks are good and convenient if you need to use your rv as a hotel. Like when visiting family or going to some convention or concert. You can use your rv two ways as a camper, or as a mobile private hotel and they both have there place in the itinerary.
5th Wheels do have higher ceilings, but you can also get that with a larger travel trailer toy hauler. I recently bought a 34' TT toy hauler and the ceilings are over 8' feet, with the exception of the front bedroom.

Give the Scottle another shot. Best stir fry veggies you can make on the road. There are hot spots, trick is to keep the food moving around. It's just like using a wok, move the faster cooking items to the outside of the scottle, while the slower cookers stay in the center where the heat is concentrated. Love the video.
If you want a smoker and grill that you can use even without electric hookups the Akorn Jr is a great small Kamado style unit at only $150. The only downside is with my Chevy 1500 it won't fit under the backflip G2, if I was going to full-time I'd just shorten the legs a bit to make it fit, for now it transports in the shower tub.

I went from a class A to an Airstream. The class A was great, but too expensive to maintain for just me. The Airstream has everything I "need".
BTW, "level" is relative. I took a bubble level and discovered the floor is not exactly like the counter, which is slightly off from the table.
My benchmark is when the bathroom door stays open where you leave it.
I got the 'Level Mate Pro' also. Less getting in and out of the truck!

I lived in a 31' bumper-pull for 8 months this past year and I agree with so many things you said in this video... except I will always miss the games the kids played while i drove... I miss asking a kid to grab me some food or something while we were driving... i do love driving a class-c
Great Video guys, its always fun seeing some of the older clips and seeing how much you all have changed from season 1. We have had Class A, Travel Trailer and Fifth wheel. I agree with all your pro's and con's. I would say the main reason we went toward trailers was to have a vehicle the family fit in when we got to our destinations. The move to the Fifth wheel was more about getting all the living(mostly Sleeping space) for all of us and staying in as short of a trailer as we could. To get a bunk house on a bumper pull and have or own room everything was pretty much over 35 ft and we stayed under that by going with the Fifth Wheel

I LOL at the deep breath with the Treager. I have a Pit Boss. I do the same thing! The dutch oven is BOSS too, and with a tripod to suspend it, cooking over a firepit is awesome. Great comments on the TT vs 5th. You are right, just replacing the TV can make all the difference in the world. We have a Coleman 274BH that I tow with an F150. It took a bit getting the right WDH on it, but once I did, it handles quite well. Then we got an F350 as a second vehicle. the difference is remarkable. With the F150 you know there is a trailer back there, even with it perfectly set up. Same trailer with the F350, trailer? What trailer? We are currently selling the trailer and considering a 5th wheel, mainly because there is more room for the same behind the bumper length. That and the truck came with a 5th wheel already set up. We have not ruled out another Conventional tow though, just depends on like and price. Good video, got a lot of good ideas for our future trips, especially liked the leveling tool.
Hi guys. This may be a bit off-topic from this video. I just wanted to say that I have been watching you for some time now and have gone back to watch several of your older videos. One thing that I have to commend you on is that you are great parents and have raised your kids well. I believe they are all on their way to great futures. Job well done.
Thanks for showing the Anderson Blocks and Level Mate Pro. I have purchased those for when I get my rig. I will be traveling solo with 3 cats and a dog, so they will not be much help in this area.
I'm going with a travel trailer because I want the smaller trailer. My plan is to primarily be boondocking and finding remote smaller places to camp.
So well put together and informative.. Quite a while back I made a remark, about your site was more for the folks with lots of money. You have won me over with your whole approach. I can now see it has been one of discovery, (I can't fault you for buying rigs in your price range). What I like about your site the most is how you break everything down to the simplest terms so everyone can understand. Your pro and con video's presents each person with a choice to make up their own mind. You are a top site, I stand corrected and apologize for my closed mindedness. One major con for a motor home for me at least would be that your home and your vehicle are tied together. Meaning for repairs or when it has to go into the shop you loose your house as well. All motorized vehicles breakdown at some point and having a motorized home would make it that much worse. At least with a tow vehicle and a trailer/5th wheel I can get the RV to somewhere close to where my truck is being worked on and be comfortable in it as I wait on the repair with all my stuff and sleep in my own bed...
100% spot on with the levelmate pro and the anderson levelers. I'll go 1/4 in higher on the levelmate because, if ya noticed when you disconnected, it settles down a tad. We bring a propane fire pit with us. I love the convenience, I always say my wife loves the "idea" of a fire. By the time it's dark and supper is over and cleaned up and ready to sit by the fire, she is ready to go to sleep shortly after . HAHA I dont always want to stay up for a while and the pour water over it (we have to drown fires in our area) and get the smell from that all over. Pure convenience but in the spring and fall when I get up early to let the dogs out, I'll fire it up while they are doing they're thing to get warm and it does not produce near the heat youd get from a wood fire. Wood has more BTUs than propane.
Our only regret in purchasing the gas version of the GMC 3500 is fueling up while towing our fifth wheel, almost every diesel pump has space for big rigs while gas pumps can be tricky sometimes; in a few rural areas we've had to unhitch to gas up. Thanks for another great video!
