    My son wanted the SupeOcean heritage II in blue dial and fine linked bracelet as his graduation present. I told him graduate with honors and we will talk. About 3 months before college graduation as a Computer Engineering student, he smugly told me, dad you better start saving for my watch.
    He got the watch and I had to defend the purchase with my wife. Beautiful watch.

      I liked it in pictures and vids so went to the dealer to try it on. I had two issues:
      1. It's very polished and shiny - looked like a diver that you should only wear to the church.
      2. The general design is more elegant that your average diver but there is a lot of text on the dial that clutters and messes up an otherwise classy design.

When you take away the name, and let’s face it most of the time you can’t read it anyway from a distance anyway, then the Superocean Heritage gets the most attention and praise. Great video Teddy, I own it in 42 blue and LOVE it. One thing to note is that Breitling does not utilize the Silicon hairspring but a Nivarox. They believe its better to have an antimagnetic alloy which can be repaired in lieu of a completely antimagnetic silicon one which cannot be repaired and must be replaced. I think both are great just a difference of opinion on long term serviceability.

    I bought this watch (the black 42mm version) second hand in 2018, and have worn it until I bought my Blancpain FF Bathyscaphe 70’ies Day Date in July 2021 (also second hand). I still love and use my Breitling Superocean II, and the “blue hue” that Teddy talks about is no issue, at least to me. After all, this is the double coating to the sapphire glass that makes the dial, hands and indices look absolutely amazing, especially in dim light conditions. I have many times been arrested by the wife for not paying attantion to whatever series we are binging on Netflix, because I am staring at my Breitling and twisting my wrist to catch the light just right! But, I have to admit my Blancpain FF is a step above, but also these two cannot be compared like-for-like as they are very different tiers. Also I do not understand the use for the “wart” (some call it helium escape valve) on the Omega, and the Tudor crown looks the size of a tractor wheel to me. I work in the subsea business, so I know what a waste 99,9% of helium escape valve on watches are. I guess the same could be said for chronographs (especially on divers…), but each to their own. After all, we all tend to forget that: “Relax, it’s just a watch”.

      Hmmm, I would put them about equal but Brietling has had some huge missteps and Superoceans suffer from being way too expensive and too shiny, and are now a plain old second tier luxuary brand without Tudors tool credability, without Tudors value, why would you pay for a huge desk diver from a second tier lux brand when you can get Seamasters and Planet Oceans for a little more on Chrono Let alone a BB for a grand less,from a brand with just as much cred as Brietling, which is a "mall brand" Omega isn't. You might rate them the same but dealers and collectors disagree. Hence the term Mall Brand

    • @torontowatches9709
      @torontowatches9709 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Tudor has no history and no horological significance lol mall brand? You’re obviously a hater! Omega is owned by Richemont that’s why they can flex their movements Breitling is still independent company. Planet Ocean is 18mm thick for 600m, SO 42 is 13mm for 500m and 14 for 1000. Also the James Bond thing is such a gimmick! PLO prof a disaster and the pre bond Seamasters are a joke. Breitling is finally showing what it’s made of! One of the best luxury brands up there with Rolex Omega

    • @jamesblonde2271
      @jamesblonde2271 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@torontowatches9709 Tudor has a much better history than Brietling as issued to British forces, Hans Wilsdorf, my point was their history was at least as significant as Brietling, more so in the aqatic arena. Many BB models are (short) waitlist, Pelagos is selling out or on order but no discounts and like Omega in the league above popular models are tricky to source and seldom in the window, in the same mall I can get any Brietling I want at a discount. This puts them in the same bracket as Tag, Huer realistically, another brand that has failed to leverage its illustrius history into a tier one brand identity, unlike ....Plus the re-sale is awful compared to both Tudor and Omega. Sorry if I wasn't clear before.
      Your opinions re models, the Plowprof is a significant part and icon of divewatches as is the blue seamaster, I agree about Bond, he shouldn't be wearing an Omega at all, dont forget back then Omega was the lux watch and Rolex the tool. The PO is a hockey puck and they should do a seamaster without the valve and the No Time to die is a awful faux butch horological codpeice of a watch that is trading at 50% but the numbers dont lie, also were you aware Brietling use Tudor movements and the BO1 is a collab between the two, so same movement, one costs less and returns your money, one costs more but looses more plus (imho) make you look like a yacht pimp.

    Teddy, you mentioned that this watch has a silicone hairspring. My understanding is that in the B20, Breitling actually swapped out the silicone hairspring Tudor originally provided for a less desirable / less anti-magnetic hairspring. Am I incorrect in that regard? All that being said, I have owned the 42mm SOH II in blue for two years now. I work in an industrial environment actually known for "zapping" people's digital watches. I have the steel mesh bracelet, the blue rubber mesh bracelet and the blue leather strap.. All kindly thrown in by the Breitling Boutique manager here in Sydney.. (Jonathan) Great guy and super customer focused. Having the three straps really gives me three very distinct and different looks to this watch.. Relaxed, Stylish and dressy with a change of the strap.
    Earlier this year I got the Kelly Slater green Superocean in 44mm and have just replaced the nato strap with a steel bracelet from Breitling.. Totally transformed the look. I am currently tempted by the new Super Chronomat 44mm with the Blue or possibly Boutique only Green Dial... Which retails in Australia for more than the price of a Sub.. Not being able to get my hands on a Sub or any Rolex for that matter without paying ridiculous prices means I am likely to get another Breitling..

      The one that you have has better lume, significantly thinner and better movement imo especially Breitlings etas. I own both your watch and this and the 2 42 is definitely my favorite. The lume on the heritage is so poor it bothers me so much, ready to sell it but the bracelet and Bezel always keep me from doing so. That tudor movement sucks, ETA is way better, has way longer history and Breitling modifies them to the best movement ever. Outside of Power reserve which is something virgins complain about your watch is absolutely perfect

      @robertsullivan4773 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@brianmartinez1364 interesting question. I just put it on to consider your question. I have a modest collection of watches. Only one being a true dress watch. For instance I don't consider my Seamaster 300m Pro a dress watch or my Submariner. The Super Ocean Heritage.42mm B20 Red gold. I actually consider a hybrid. It's a dressy desk diver. I would wear it to a wedding and I wear it to church. But maybe not with jeans and a pull over. The gold makes it flashy but the black rubber tones it down. So I guess I'm saying its very versatile and I wear it from mid dress occasions to dressier occasions. But not afraid to wear it very casual just to show some flash. I know this wasn't very helpful. 😊

    For the folks slating Tudor, The Breitling Superocean Héritage II is powered by the automatic B20 caliber that came from a collaboration with Tudor, as Breitling mainly just shipped in third party movements (ETA) for years and recently started their own in-house movements department, they turned to Tudor as a leader in expertise, then a chrono was developed and a modified Breitling B01 movement appears in latest Tudor chronographs range so they are very much partners. Generally Breitling is now using the Tudor in-house MT5612 (dropped ETA) apart from the B20 line models, Maybe do some research or ask a watch guy, your Breitlings are Tudor inside the case . The limited edition (of 250) Green dial SuperOceans still use ETA movements as they were set aside as a custom run, manager of the Breitling NYC store told me over a few G&T's upstairs a while back in the customer suite, apparently it takes 8 months of processing to get a green dial to that finish, if it didn't have the ETA in it, I would have the green model over all others in the line for looks and exclusivity.

    As a former owner of this watch, I loved its sophisticated look and uniqueness. I’d get asked frequently, “What kind of watch is that?” However, two drawbacks. First, the bracelet looks amazing… when clean. At other times it looks a little dull as it’s interwoven style naturally traps dust and dirt. Second, and the reason I ultimately sold it, the markers on the bezel started to fade after less than two years of normal office wear. This was a huge construction quality issue for me and I couldn’t imagine how it would stand the test of time several years down the road.

    Great review. I think it's nice to see videos on the overlooked SuperOcean line. I think the reason it is overlooked is definitely due to the Breitling brand stigma. Yes, they have been definitely making strides with many of their recent releases, but the brand as a whole needs to be trimmed down significantly otherwise it will turn into a higher priced Tag Heuer. The SMP 300 on the strap runs for $4900 and the BB58 is $3700. The B20 is around $4850. Most consumers will opt for the Omega or Tudor over the Breitling simply because of brand recognition. I own a black SO Special, which I absolutely love. It's stealthy and has great wrist presence. However, I do want to get the SMP 300 at some point because in imo it is the best diver under 8k.

The issue with Brietling is that you can buy a Navitimer and most of their line pre-owned under 5K. That also goes for Tudor. This is why those brands are not in the same league as Rolex. Why not just make this a 10m dive watch if you aren't actually going to make it usable in other ways? The Swatch Omega thing put me off the Seamaster 300M and I don't like the Tudor brand also no one knows Tudor in my country. So i went on a search and came across the SuperOcean Heritage B20 which grew on me very quickly as it does look great. After researching and pretty much mostly positive reviews I purchased and i couldn't be happier with the watch. I have 7.5 inch wrist and the 42 is the perfect size for me, I don't like a large watch. I also love the dark blue hue on the black dial. The want for a Rolex has disappeared weirdly.

    I wouldn't say the SuperOcean Heritage necessarily gets overlooked. After the Navitimer, the SuperOcean probably gets the second most airplay among their line up that existed before Kerns.
    I think it's their regular Professional line SuperOcean that gets overlooked. It may have a base ETA but you have get a helium escape valve and a case that can withstand depths of 5000 feet or more, depending on specific model. Impractical perhaps but a good exercise in mechanical engineering and design.
