    Just got the SOH2 44, black, made Aug21. The clasp is improved now. Compared to Tudor and Omega in person... this watch is something else, it's like if Lamborghini made tanks... it's solid but sure does it look hot.

    I just bought one (two actually, one for the wife as well) in size 42, same blue colour but with rose gold bezel and hands and we absolutely love them. Have other luxury watches but really happy with the SOH. I got mine with the blue rubber strap and the bracelet for my wifes. Have to agree with the comment regarding the clasp on the bracelet being very so so but the one on the rubber strap is much better and has 9mm of micro adjustment. It’s good having both and being able to make the comparison. My wife isn’t bothered about it but I would be.

    Definitely a fresh and cool review and intriguing approach to the general diver segment. Somehow I feel there's a need for Part 2 that would tell the rest of the SOH2 story: It would also give enough credit to the nice Rolex/Tudor movement in this extremely beautiful body. Would emphasize that this/the gold model is indeed a jewelery piece rather than a Luminox or another Submariner homage (sorry Seamaster and BB). It can nicely credit the superb work reinventing the 1957 SuperOcean. Since I've got both the Seamaster and SOH2 gold when placed together my trusty Seamaster looks like a dated classic living in Rolex's shade.

      Thanks! I agree there is A LOT more to cover on the SOH but in general I try to keep my content pretty short so its tricky. I also agree with you 100% regarding the SOH standing on its own legs vs trying to chase Rolex. For me the SOH was one of the bigger turning points in Breitling's history and it really provided the groundwork for what the brand s today.

    Own this in 42, in Black and Red gold. I wear it on the black rubber Breitling strap which cuts down on any over bling and completely eliminates any poor clasp issue as the clasp on the rubber bracket is excellent. The whole package is stunning and compares closely in appearance with the Rolex red gold yacht master on oyster flex for about a whopping 20k. I consider the Breitling SOH II a dress diver and not really that much a comparison to the Black Bay or the new Seamaster. I could agree more with your comments on the previous Generation Seamaster which I own also. I had the choice of the new Seamaster 300m and took the older generation as New old stock.

    • @hammondwatch2808
      @hammondwatch2808  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah while I understand the rolex "wins" in many comparable categories I still think the steel/gold SOH watches are more attractive than the comparable rolex models all things considered. I switch mine to a blue isofrane when I want to dress it down but I love the bracelet so much I tend to go back rather quickly, regardless of the clasp. BTW, congrats on what sounds like a stellar collection, I regret not getting the previous generation seamaster ceramic when the market was really low on them. I think it was the high mark in their design, at least aesthetically.

    I narrowed my next watch choice to Seamaster, Black Bay and SOH. Dealer put them all out in front of me and the Black Bay just looked cheap. The SOH beat the Seamaster hands down in looks and quality, I’d say it looks much more expensive too. Didn’t like the bracelet clasp, very pleased with the rubber strap as it’s infinitely adjustable. The emerald green face is beautiful too.

    A friend of mine has the 46 and had me try it on, I have a 7.5 inch wrist and honestly it wore more like a 44 on me. I was surprised at how well it fit for a 46 but I think I would still rather go for the 44 on myself for that 43 ish feeling.

      As somebody with that wrist size I suggest going in and trying the 42 and 44 on just to see what fits best. Both feel great but honesty I'd wear the 42 if the lug didn't aggravate the bone at my wrist. That said you are 100% correct that the 44 feels more 43 or 42.

      I have a 7.5inch wrist as well - and LOVE the look/fit of the 46mm - but I have it on the Black Alligator strap so that might make it visually a bit smaller in appearance (that strap option is fantastic IMHO - very classic/elegant - dresses the work watch up!)

    Would be great if this watch had a sapphire / glass back to observe the movement

    • @hammondwatch2808
      @hammondwatch2808  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes and no. The movement is the Tudor movement you see in the North Flag which is very basic and industrial looking. While Breitling does a better job dressing it up they would need to do much more decoration if it was visible. The cost o the decoration and display back would push the retail cost into the Seamaster pricing which would be tough. Also, while I like the idea, a display caseback may tarnish some of the watch's vintage charm.

  • @bluelab5019
    @bluelab5019 2 ปีที่แล้ว +15

    I'd take this over the Tudor BB all day long. If Tudor came up with their own image instead of just looking like a poor man's Rolex then it might be a different story. This watch is a beauty and it's not trying to be something it isn't.

  • @bluelab5019

  • @fudog73

    I own the 42 version. It would be perfect, if the watch a bit more thinner, and the bracelet started by 20mm at the 42 version, like at the normal Superocean. So it’s a bit to loud for my taste.

    • @hammondwatch2808
      @hammondwatch2808  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Id be curious to see if 20m looked a bit small given all the other measurements. Sometimes I see Tissot divers at 42+ with 20mm lugs and it looks disproportionate. While I liked how thin the first SOH was I am more than willing to trade the thickness for the upgraded movement. Hopefully tudor can decrease the movements girth as time go on because the slab sided BB divers suffer from that same issue. Try it on rubber, it really dresses it down. That said, it's absolutely a big loud watch.

  • @musik4u343

    I personally think the new omega seamaster is an ugly watch and it's too clunky. This SOH II is so underrated and especially for the price u can get it for. I like that it's a diver but because of the fact that they didn't put the numerals on the bezel it can be a dressy watch too.

    • @hammondwatch2808
      @hammondwatch2808  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Personally I don't think the Omega is ugly but its certainly a chucky watch and I don't care for the helium valve. I love the current SOHII but do slightly prefer how thin the first generation was. I'm hoping Tudor can thin down their movements before the next generation. I agree that the SOH is a far more versatile watch.

    I personally think the Omega is the better watch esp the the little extra just for the ceramic dial with the etched waves, I used to own the older seamaster ( the one just before they got rid of the waves) and I loved it the worst mistake I took to sell it . The Breitling is a not bad looking watch but I personally prefer crown guards on a dive watch

    • @hammondwatch2808
      @hammondwatch2808  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I agree the seamaster is a better watch and a better dive watch (lume, movement, robustness) but there is a pretty significant price difference. That's why I don't really see them as direct competitors. I strongly prefer this Breitling over a Tudor BB though.
      To me, the ceramic (flat dial) seamaster is their best version all time.

      @@hammondwatch2808 I went tot the dealer last week. I thought i needed a 42 but the 44 fits better on my wrist and I only have a 7 inch wrist.
      I still havent bought the super ocean. I have to give myself some weeks ( because im a impulsive buyer) but Im so in love with It that it probably will be my next watch. I agree with you that the seamaster feels like a beter watch.(and objctively is) But I just don't like the looks as much as I do with the Superocean. plus indeed the superocean is about EUR 1200,- cheaper.
      by the way. have you noticed that the 44 mm is different than the 42 and 46? the logo B is rose gold on the 42 and 46 compared to this silver(?) logo on the 44. The text on the dial is different. The date is white on black on the 44 and black on white on the 42 and 46 and the bezel is a different blue as well. Any idea why that is?

      After looking them over I prefer the 44 greatly. Less text at 12 and I find it aesthetically pleasing when each line of text is shorter than the last. I also think the date wheel looks much better in white on black.
      I will have to do some research to see if there is any specific reason for the differences.

      I like the text way more on the 44, its cleaner looking. But I think I would have liked the rose gold B.
      But It is what it is. 🙂
      In older reviews they are only talking about a 42 and 46 model so perhaps the 44 came later? Still doesn't explain why they made the 44 different than the rest. I couldn't find It anywhere online so now i'm intrigued about the reasoning.

      I think they had a couple 40mm small seconds variants but I believe it was always 42, 44, 46. That said I do prefer that the first editions were thinner. There's a reason Tudor BB's have that big slab case! Great movement, but needs to be refined to a thinner spec in my opinion.
