Yes, this is a beautiful place. Particulary after the movie "Somewhere in Time" was filmed at the Grand Hotel. I visited the hotel in 2007 and had a lunch buffet in the grand ballroom. Just unforgetable and always make me remembering the scenes of "Somewhere in Time".
The board "Flo" is holding says July 1953.I would imagine it took several years to edit the film and then add the voice narration, and by then the bridge could have been built.Remember in 1953 there were no digital cameras and computers, this kind of video was a long slow process.
The island really doesn't look much different today. There are still no cars allowed. Beautiful scenery, unhurried pace. It looks so strange to see views of the straits without the Mackinac Bridge, which opened in 1957.
What year was film made? The man said there is now a bridge. The bridge started to be built in 1954 but did not open until 1957. So that is why I question when the film was made. Other than that a great film the man could have had a career in film making .
I was just there and it has changed very little. As beautiful as ever. There are no more people pushing carts. The Grand Hotel looks mostly the same. The steamers from the mainland have given way to hydro boats that take 15 minutes to cross. The date at the end looks like 1958 when the bridge was open. So I guess the first date was wrong.
+Nick Stone This video was shot before the Mackinac Bridge was built. Construction started in 1954 and the bridge was done in 1957. Only been one bridge there.
There were not 2 bridges. I grew up here and I know that. The Mackinac Bridge is and was the ONLY one. Google can be your friend if you bother to search it.
What a gem this video is! One of the few places that looks pretty much the same now as it did back in the 50s.
I loved it . I have been there a number of times but could never afford to stay at the hotel. Michigan is truly in my heart !
It's weird seeing it in 1953. I was there about a month ago. Very similar.

Still one of my favorite movies. ❤️
The line at the 5:39 mark is timeless!
Yes! The bank account remark has only gotten worse. lol
Mackinaw Island is one of the most unique places in the mid west. The horses and cycling fantastic.

The more things change on Mackinac Island the more they stay the same.

Maybe this was narrated after the bridge was built. The date shown at the end looks like 1958.

There was no bridge connecting upper & lower peninsula in 1953.
To clear up my last comment . The part I question is the part where he saids at 0:50 " They are now connected by a long bridge"
The wife and I agree, but we'll keep quite for you.
And how old was the first couple? Probably around 55! Just kidding, but people sure seemed older then...
Odd seeing a thumbnail of Mackinac Island with a car, where they are banned.
Watch the video. The footage of the car is in Flint.
Miss titled, should be movie of GH.
There was two bridges and the one now is the 2 one the frist one got ripped down in a storm along long time ago
