  • เผยแพร่เมื่อ 22 เม.ย. 2022
  • A husband and wife are out for a canoe ride on a calm, clear afternoon when tragedy strikes. The boat capsizes and only the husband survives.
At first local police declare Arlene Westervelt’s death an accidental drowning, but after suspicions are raised that she may have been murdered, police take a closer look. Charges are laid, but eventually stayed with little explanation.
In this episode, reporter Jules Knox takes us through the many twists and turns of a mishandled investigation, family outrage and an exclusive interview with Arlene’s husband and the accused, Bert Westervelt. Was it a tragic accident, or was it murder?

I can read crookedness, deceit, guilt and denial written ALL over Arlene's husband's face.
    He's a LIAR.
Shame on him and the high ranking officer who covered up this murder/strangulation.
He murdered her out in the boon-docs and dropped her dead body in the water hoping she would never be found.
When is there not an autopsy performed on a person whose death was suspicious? NEVER, unless there is a cover-up.
I hope that Arlene's family gets justice.
This is the 2nd time I have watched this and all I can say is How shamelessly AWFUL.

So the whole interview is based on wether he killed his wife or not yet he pretends to be so surprised by the question if he killed his wife??!!! “Sorry”? Really bud that there tells me all I need to know. Guilty

The part about the Bert having to “dive down” to grab life jackets doesn’t make any sense. Life jackets are buoyant & wouldn’t sink 🥴

Weird how women have "accidents" causing death right when their getting ready to file for divorce. Coincidence? I think not.

    Published April 21, 2022 3:53 p.m. CDT
A spokesperson for Chief Coroner Lisa Lapointe confirmed to CTV News Thursday that she has directed the investigation to be reopened.
"The Coroners Act permits the chief coroner to reopen an investigation if new evidence arises or if the chief coroner considers it would be in the public interest. In this case, the chief coroner has determined that it is in the public interest for another coroner to undertake a new investigation to include any new or additional information that may assist the public's understanding of Arlene Westervelt's death," the spokesperson said in an email.

*while being interviewed for a true crime show specifically featuring the death of his wife which he is the sole suspect* Interviewer: Did you kill your wife? Burt: (after a bewildered pause..) Sorry!?. Someone tell Burt head to go back to acting school, he isn’t getting an Oscar for that pitiful performance.

Yeah, it doesn't work if it's an accusation he's faced so many times already. He'd be ready for it. That was really suspicious...

I would rather have the Keystone cops investigate than the RCMP. The Mounties today are not the Mounties of old. They are too Political these days. Look at the debacle in Ottawa over the convoy protest.

Shows like this uncover more than official investigations.
    Great reporting.
    48 Hours, 20/20, Dateline.
    Relentless Bloodhounds.
    Respect.
Arlene's husband is as evasive as a Fox.
No Life Jacket, No Autopsy, His wife's a strong swimmer, he doesn't answer simple questions.
    A lot of things stink.

This is the case study for a sociopath who killed his wife. She might even have been dead before they left the house for the 2nd trip. His soft voice, his whole behaviour tells. Why don't we teach our daughters to never stay with a toxic partner after having seen a divorce lawyer. This guy is a pathologic liar. And a murderer!

  • @TheLadycountry

Bert is guilty. he killed her. He can't talk about things, that would be his lawyer and that is how it is, him saying not to, but him is her executor, that is also odd.

How would she drown and why wasn’t she wearing a life jacket they both were either drunk n tipped boat over by doing something stupid on a boat or he pushed n drowned her. But didn’t coroner state no foul play? What was toxicology report. And the splitting hairs if she was strangled how did she break her neck if not strangled? They just don’t want to solve case bc too many hands in high places are in the pot. That family knows n shame on brother siding w suspect?? What is in it for him?

I listened to the podcast of this show and thought I would look to see if there was a video because a few of the women to the victim sounded as if they were doing the crocodile tear thing....Sure enough, try as they may, most of them were trying so hard to produce tears which I found disturbing. This whole thing was disturbing....People are weird.

I'm sorry but to me first red flag was not wanting autopsy. Every death is usually followed by autopsy. Accident or murder. If not wanting it something's not right. I don't believe the part of her trying to hang onto canoe n punchin him for tryin to help either. Red flag 2. Lat but not least I can't believe she wouldnt be wearing or wanting to wear one esp since they said she wasn't experienced swimmer. Red flag 3
