      It's all about money and family status. What kind of culture is this ??!!
      Was Jassi's family as wealthy as what they had claimed to be to begin with ? Owning a blueberry farm makes one a wealthy person ???
      I have known farm owners who struggled to keep their farm going at difficult times.

    What an incredibly heartbreaking story. Jassi was so beautiful and I’m sure she was even more beautiful on the inside; she deserved so much more. I also feel so incredibly bad for Mithu and I sincerely hope he can find happiness one day. Jassi’s mother and uncle are psychopaths - I hope they’re locked up for the rest of their miserable lives.

    These traditions r terrible I was brought up with relatives and a mom with a lot of traditions and they were very serious to carry them all out, I am shunned because I refused to live by them. I wanted reasons why I must live by them and never got a good answer so I decided it was time to leave them all behind, it’s not Indian traditions at all but like a Amish colony. I am not going to say the one I was raised in but these traditions r very very important to the family, I am now just making a good relationship with my brother so I don’t want to ruin that, it’s been many years since I have had any contact with him and my nephew so I don’t want to ruin that, Moving to Canada doesn’t change their ways of thinking………. They want to live in Canada but don’t want to change. To be true Canadians. Sad and tragic case ………….. remember like my family women r not worth much…….

    • @mothergourmetcanada
      @mothergourmetcanada 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Honour & killing are two words that have no business ever being used together.
    The overwhelming gratitude to those who have continued to fight for the justice of this beautiful, young couple, can't be fully put into words. But may God bless each & every one of you. Those two cowards need to pay for what they've done, even if it's the last thing that they do.
    Hearing that so many years later, & the chair that she had died on, was still there & sitting in the middle of the room, just absolutely f××king floored me! To think of what both of them must have gone through that horrendous night, is incredibly heart wrenching. And to know, that it was Jassi's mother who gave the final ok, to kill her, is just beyond comprehension. And even though, her mother may of been thousands of miles away, back in Canada, she might as well, have been the one to have fatally stabbed her daughter that night.

    Do not let anyone tell you that these cultures are okay: they are not. Arabic and Indian cultures harbor traditional, misogynistic, murderous, barbaric things of this sort. These traditions have been around for about 10 centuries. They still exist. Exceptions confirm the rule. I know some Indian people do not agree with these cultural elements, and of course I respect that. But for every person who disagrees, there is one, or more, who follow these traditions.
    Millennials, the generation behind the push for what they term "diversity", are misguided, spoiled and sheltered, idealists. Yes, diversity, globalization and acceptance with open arms, are IDEAL. I would LOVE to live in a world like that too. I'm not against the ideal, and the concept of being free of prejudice and pure hearted acceptance. But the reality is, much of these cultures are a certain way. It is a fact. It is a fact that has not YET changed. Maybe some day.
    From "Not without my daughter" in the 80s, to honor killings and female genital mutilation TODAY, EVERY DAY, somewhere, for the last 30 years, and for centuries prior; from this case to thousands of such cases in these cultures, there is much to be wary of. Simply wary, nothing more. BE AWARE. Millennials have been sheltered and spoiled and are extremely ignorant of the actual reality abroad.

    Human trafficking under the guise of tradition. The highest bidder wins. The poor girl is stuck with the pervert. It's outrageous to me.. They can't just get a divorce like we can here. And even so it's still difficult at times for woman to leave abusive relationships. Often they need support to escape successfully. Who's helping the woman over there who are stuck in abusive and dangerous situationships. They don't divorce because they're too afraid to leave. They could be tracked down and killed for trying to leave. Not ok. We shouldn't be allowing this anymore.

      Your comment reeks of racism. That aside there isn't a lot of repercussion for crimes in Canada for EVERYONE so we cant tell them lies can we? These people were free for a long time and so are others that commit crimes in Canada.

      @sharonbrown6595 2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      @@canadianjatti omg. Always the racism word eh. You have no idea what race I am do you. We seem to have this problem with people either committing honor killings here in Canada or arranging them. So I just gave a suggestion for god sakes, I have a family that has a lot of traditions and try and tell them they don’t apply in Canada ,is NOT ACCEPTABLE to them, I am shunned from most of my family members now and it’s very upsetting and horrible for me, I paid the ultimate price ok? Sometimes I think if they had killed me I would be better off.
      So don’t talk racism to me. You need to look up the meaning. YOU CANT MAKE ANY COMMENTS and it’s a hate crime or racism or something. Time to grow up and take this as a suggestion. Maybe just maybe people that come here will say we can do this in our country but not in Canada . It just might help. Try and be open minded. I think if my family had been told you r now in Canada we can’t do this or that just maybe they would have acted differently. And was a racist to tell some of my family members this is Canada you need to go back to the homeland if you don’t want to obey the rules here?? Yikes 😳 😬. I will say I come from a group like the Amish. And they all hate English people so is that racist ?? I want you to go to my family and tell them to their face and see what happens. Good luck I think if someone that was to do with immigration had told them no you have to accept everyone there might have been hope for us all that were shunned like me. It’s been over 30 years now and I miss a lot of my cousins siblings and many that died and I never knew it or was allowed to shoe my respects. So now tell me all about racism ok. You know nothing

    37:00 it was never about honor. It was about obey, you will obey the man. And of course the trafficking aspects. They believe her husband (that they choose) will take care of them also financially! So it's likely she would have wound up with a yucky old man. These are the questions that need to be brought up in the vetting process. That they understand the laws here and that women have rights here, you must stop selling your daughters as it's illegal (human trafficking)
    They should be taking a course on how the laws work here and what's unacceptable! They need to sign an oath to leave these habits behind when they come here! Old men tend to be stuck in their ways! But you can reach the younger generations of men. This is not ok!

    Most of Indians adapted to modern world but certain are still think like the old ways of their country. Casts way of thinking too. So, for those Indians it is normal to do those things. They won't punish those who did it because for them those were in their right. it was a question of honour for them. But we are in Canada not in India and we should have zero tolerance for that type of comportement but we let it flow... I lived in North Delta (very close to Surrey) BC, my landlord was Indian, my neighbours were Indians and I could see the difference between the two worlds...

    What What an incredible, brave and modernly minded woman she has been proven to be by both her words and her exceptionally strong actors. It appears obvious that India is hoping she will be forgotten if they continue to make excuses as to why there has yet to be proceedings in a criminal justice court. Their reasons for such is also obvious- the only possible findings of this would be a murder conviction for her own mother and uncle which would cause huge embarrassment to her country and legal system there.

    Having t e r r o r i s t funding is not the same as working hard to buy land. You know they aren't honest or law abiding but there you are giving them credit!! They get the poor from the area to do the grit work. They also rent out places and exploit tenants for free Labour by using threats of eviction. It's so annoying you just assumed this family is any different, even after what they did to their own beautiful daughter!
