    Jimmy is still my favorite player ever. I'm one of those guys he got off the couch in 91' (and I am a year younger than him). I admired his game even though I could never begin to emulate it. I tried a T2000 once, what a horrible racket. How he made it work is a great mystery. Most of all, he made the best of the gifts that he had and never tried to be something other than what he was.

    Jimmy was my favorite player when growing up. I have played tennis for 50 years and Jimmys attitude of never giving up has helped me greatly.

    Loved watching Jimmy since I first got interested in tennis as a kid in the late 70's. My favourite player of all time for sure.

    Jimmy Connors is very articulate and passionate. Today's tennis is sanitized and synthetic.

    One of the greatest mistakes in my life as a sports fan was turning off the TV and going to bed when Connors was down two sets to Patrick McEnroe in the first round of the 1991 U.S. Open.

    I grew up watching John McEnroe and he got me into pro tennis in my teens. Jimmy Connors' battles with him were epic and I saw John say that he holds Jimmy in the highest regard as a competitor and all-time tennis great, and Jimmy certainly deserves that. I wonder how much higher on McEnroe's list Jimmy would be than Serena...

    If you had to pick one player to play for your life, it wd be Connors. That was true in the 70s, and it's true now. He gave it everything, always. I was never a Connors fan, but have to give him credit for being such a competitor.

    In my opinion in 1991 a 39 year old making the semis would be like a 45 year old doing it today. In 91 39 years old was very very old for Tennis

    • @fundhund62
      @fundhund62 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Sadly, it is. Back in Connors` day, the game was fascinating. It was about different styles and strategies, shotmaking, volleying.
      Today the only interesting thing is statistics. Who will end up with the most slams? What does a certain h2h look like?
      But the tennis itself is boring as heck.
