Who ever would have thought it? Jimmy Connors as a grownup! This is wonderful. He is one of the tennis greats: the first tennis match I ever happened to see on TV was Connors/Orantes at the US Open final, and I was completely captivated. I immediately bought a racket and tried to figure out what to do with it. He was magic, and to hear him talk this way is wonderful. Just wonderful!
I'm a Brit and Jimmy Connors was my favourite player ever. I didn't support the Brits, I supported Connors. His never say die attitude was exciting and inspiring. That comeback against Penfors when two sets and 1-4 down to win was the one match that epitomised his fight.
Excellent point Justin… As an American tennis player Jimmy spanned many eras of tennis and was a true champion For many of years. Does he supersede a female, another male player or even musicians have been named for U.S. Open facilities??
Like they do around the perimeter of baseball and football stadiums there should be bronze action statues of American Tennis greats like Jimmy Connors, John McEnroe, Billy Jean King, Chris Evert, and Arthur Ashe throughout the complex. This is NEW YORK, THIS IS THE GREAT U.S. OPEN. They are the greats who inspired thousands of American kids to pick up a racket. And Jimmy you will always be my favourite!
Jimmy played better when he disliked his opponent, the me against the world attitude, it makes it fun to watch. It’s not so much that he wanted to win the open, it’s that he didn’t want to lose to his opponent. ( Lendl, McEnroe, Borg ) .
Such a humble guy, contrary to what I had in mind about Connors. Great American, thru and thru, so proud of him.👌👌

The greatest generation. Greatest years for tennis was the 1970s and 1980s. Same for ice hockey.
Same for cricket also
