That final yell of rage… there’s also a sense of great sadness; he’s not only screaming out of hate, he’s screaming in hope of the impossible chance that Kenobi would come back, instead of leave him again. That despite his horrific actions, he could be forgiven. There’s a tiny bit of hope that he stuffed deep into his mind that t they could work things out, that he wouldn’t be abandoned again. That hope died with that scream. That tiny bit of Anakin died with that scream. Now the only bit of humanity left in his black heart was for his son.
And what is beautiful is that his son NEVER gave up on him. That is the sole reason anakin came back at the end. His son believed in him and never gave up, he believed in his father. This is what anakin needed, to finally defeat vader within himself and be redeemed.

God that scene where Anakin's face is showing and you hear Hayden's voice mixed with James'... I can't imagine any fan of the prequels not getting chills at the very LEAST
I love the scene when the blue light is on Vaders face, Anakin is very much still there.. holding himself back. Everything that Anakin stood for and and represented were destroyed the night he became "Vader", he was left with the side of himself that he felt was irredeemable, memories of failures/loss. All the things that Anakin stood for and and represented were destroyed by "Vader" not Obi-Wan. Because he is "Irredeemable" he can't come back and is clearly twisted. Anakin came back to tell Obi-Wan it wasn't his fault.
It was Anakin who finally gave up at last and Obi Wan shut off that part of him who could sense Anakin while Luke, upon finding out who his father is, could start sensing Anakin. Maybe now that we know none of Anakin's turning was Obi Wan's fault, some fans with stop saying it was. There really was never any proof of it.
@@TheRivrPrncess Obi Wan was one of a handful of people keeping Anakin grounded. The jedi order as an institution does bear some responsibility. But it is not Obi wans fault.
@Lord of D and yet, who made Anakin spy on the chancellor. Windu knew something was dark about him, and they didn’t tell anakin about it. He was practically bait in ‘Revenge of the Sith’. If he was out with Obi-Wan, things would’ve turned out different; but they denied him that.

I think the 5th and 6th episodes were really good. The first 4 though were pretty bad. The only big take away out of those episodes was Vader burning Obi-wan. They easily could've made a really good 2 hour movie by cutting all the Reva stuff and other filler

When Vader says “I’m not your failure” he’s responding to when Obi-Wan said I have failed you Anakin I have failed you. In the final scene of revenge of the sith
I felt a chill when Vader said “You didn’t kill Anakin Skywalker…I did” and that’s where Obi-Wan got the “Darth Vader betrayed the Jedi and murdered your father “ line.
Anakin finally having the one moment of clarity to acknowledge that he is the way he is now by his own making. The last cryout's he give to Obi-Wan as if he wants him to finish him off right there. Obi-Wan is the only thing in existence he could dump all of his hatred and self-loathing onto other than himself, but it still would never be enough. The anger and anguish in his voice for his last cryout as if almost begging to be done with.
Oh the Irony 😩 his eyes are blue when he says “Anakin is gone” but that is literally Anakin talking. he literally has to coach himself back into Vader, that’s what we see when we see his Sith eyes become slowly more pronounced until he becomes fully sadistic and starts smiling when he sees he’s breaking Kenobi’s heart all over again. I think he fought that whole fight conflicted/emotional AF and that’s why he lost
I got to say Anakin Skywalkers story is one of the most sad stories in the franchise and even though he turned it makes you feel sorry for him because he's so blinded by hate and anger I truly believe that he could have been one of the best Jedi ever to walk the planet but he never realized his potential because he was blinded
@@TheRivrPrncess he was good but what kept him from being the very best ever was his hatred and Obie told him he would be a Padawan until he could get past that and he never did
He was to fearful and believed in revenge, something the jedi do not embrace. Anakin was shown to be prerty messed up even before he turned coat and murdered the younglings. He was overly confident, believed in authoritarianism and over all else was selfish. Yeah palpatine manipulated him, but at the end of the day you have to be manipulable to be manipulated. A good person doesnt murder dozens if not hundreds of children all to save 1 person
I think my favorite part of the fight was how Vader was forced to use both hands to fight instead of going one handed like he always does. Just shows how much of a threat Obi-Wan is to him.
I love how the voice goes from Anakin to Vader. As if slowly transitioning. When Anakin says “I am not your failure” as himself and then the “Obi-Wan” in his mechanical voice, it’s like the transition is going on, only to be completed at the final yell.
When Vader sunk the ground beneath Obi Wan I was so waiting for Vader to say the "I have the high ground" back at Obi Wan... This whole episode was revenge of the Sith level and actually had me sobbing. Premo
For me, I look at that part metaphorically. Vader is, literally, attempting to bury the past. Making his old master sink below and be crushed under his hate and rage, but it just doesn't work. He still held some respect and love for his old master deep down in the Anakin part of him, but you can see via the lighting when Vader fully suppresses any love he had for Obi Wan, as the red glow fully bathes his face, and the blue glow of Obi-Wan's lightsaber fades from his own face, representing the hope he had in saving Anakin fully fading away. Him leaving, is him giving up on Anakin, and realizing Darth Vader is the only one inside anymore. Though, as fans, we know there is still some Anakin left, which Luke is able to reveal, and help redeem
The dialogues between Obi Wan & Darth Vader about Anakin Skywalker was so powerful & emotional ! I literally cried my A** off!! 🥲 ………………….Them seeing each other face for last time was heartbreaking. Obi Wan guilt face expression, omg!😢. And Darth Vader yelling of “OBI-WAN!!!!”, that was seriously pure true hatred from Darth to Obi-Wan.
I like how Obi-wan never calls anakin Vader - as if he wouldnt accept his sith name - he speaks to him only by his sith title Darth. This goes all the way to New Hope.
Notice the smile Anakin gives when he says he killed Anakin Skywalker... Then it goes away when he's says he'll kill Obi-Wan. The subtlety is beautiful.
The 7:40 reaction got me right in the feels, reminds me of how it was watching the episode for the first time. You're cheering and wanting the fight to end with vader getting his mask broken. But when it happens, you don't feel like there's a victory. You feel just as sorry as obi wan does. Maybe more?
Honestly, part of me chooses to believe that Anakin told Obi Wan that he is not responsible for what happened during Revenge of the Sith, not to gloat about the influence of the dark side but to help him with his guilt. That's Anakin, or at least what remained of him trying to give his old master some closure and confort. Powerful stuff.
The "Im Sorry" was so genuine. Like when someone was so speechless with horror or shock or straight up heartbreak they cant think of anything truly to say. I was fine until i heard him say that in the show. Then my eyes just watered instantly.
We all know we started to almost or actually cried when obiwan said "I'm sorry anakin, for all of it" if ya didn't feel anything from that then you're no true star wars fan from movies 1-6
I think what's most heart breaking about it is that after Obi-Wan damaged the mask Darth sounded more like an injured Anakin than Darth Vader. Then he basically absolves Obi-Wan of the guilt for Anakin turning to the dark side.
An interesting thing I noted while watching the show in therm of symbolism. It's all about why the Imperial March was only played in the end. Basically what we are seeing is the final transition between Anakin and Vader, the complete fall. We can especially see symbolic elements during the last two duels between the two, the first where Vader burns Obi-Wan like he was burned on Mustafar and the second where he literally buries his past symbolic self by burying his old master. We see again that shifting duality and death in the scene where the mask is cut through and we see Anakin's face under the mask, the slice in it symbolizing the divide of the man at that moment. The blue light mirrors the last dying embers of the man giving peace to Obi-Wan by telling him basically that it isn't his fault, then the light shift to red and we see the absolute death of the hero, and only rage and Vader remains. Same with his voice, turning back to a more Anakin-like version, where he is more present than the voice modulator in tones, but the shift as he yells "Obi-Wan" twice, first less modulated toward Vader's machinelike sound and finally nearly all machine and warth. This is why the Imperial March only plays at the end, because during the rest of the show, there was still a part of Anakin in his actions, culminating with him fully assuming the role of Vader and forsaking Obi-Wan completely for Palpatine. I bet I missed elements, the symbolism of those scenes is INSANE.
I teared up when Obi Wan said the "I'm sorry, for all of it" line. It seems like Anakin was back for a brief moment when he told Obi Wan he was not his failure. But then Vader had to come back almost right away.
I loved seeing that! He is one of the most peaceful and humble Jedi that ever lived, he earned himself a nickname of Negotiator, because fight is always the last option on his list but...when there is no other choice and he has to fight, he is such a badass! He is so powerful and skilled, yet he rarely uses his powers. He is the complite opposite of Anakin, who was arrogant and always wanted to show that he was the best.
@@martanowak5312 And Anakin's "The hero of no fear" nickname he got from being a fierce General in the clone wars and that adds to Obiwan telling Luke he was a "cunning warrior " in ANH
the bit were Obi Wan really fucks up Anakin till his breathing becomes laborious and wheezy was very much like when Luke was laying into him in ROTJ. It made me emotional for some reason.
A part of me will believe there was a tiny piece of Anakin left & purposefully freed Obi-Wan (his brother) from his pain by taking responsibility for his “death”
I won’t ever understand why people thought Vader would win. Clearly Anakin remained until his conversation with Kenobi. It wasn’t until then that Vader truly buried Anakin deep inside and let go of his obsession with Kenobi. Now he truly can become Darth Vader.
Well that’s the thing he never really could let go of that side obi being the only person to beat him twice anakin casted everything aside to become better he was always the better jedi but his arrogance and impatient nature is why he would never beat obi wan and I don’t think he can mentally live with it
Maybe because the real Vader is a monster not a crying brat like kylo-ren?. Disney mixed his personality and make him weak and useless. The real vader would have destroyed Obi-Wan. If vader is so useless... Why the jedis are on the run. Just one of them is enough not to win him, but totally humiliate him.
@@lordsnake1988 as vader put it himself obi-wan is no lone jedi. vader is not weak and useless here. he was overwhelmed by obi-wan and his arrogance led to his downfall just like the duel in ep 3

this has got to be one of the most tragic fights in all of star wars, it hurt so much knowing what they've been through together and how close they were
This scene broke my heart. Such pain from both of them released. The pain in Ewan's eyes upon seeing his friend is profound, what Anakin says to him makes this scene even more gut wrenching. Brilliantly done by both men.
To be honest I kinda understand why Darth Vader didn't say "I have the high ground." And that's because that would've been coming from Anakin and not Vader. The more and more I watch this fight the more understanding I have of why he didn't say it cause don't get me wrong I wanted him to say it too. But yeah just thought I'd put that out there.
There's also that the "high ground" exchange was less about Obi-Wan winning and more Anakin completely owning himself (and proving Obi-Wan did not, in fact, underestimate him)
I agree. Although I would have liked Vader saying just "it's over, Obi-Wan...", since using the high ground line would have been very petty, although legendary. I think it all was done perfectly on this duel, including the music. Is much darker and tragic than Battle of the Heroes and Duel of Fates, and it fits perfectly the context
my dead once explained vader to me when i was little like a suit of armor that was built around anakin to protect him at his weakest, and over time the armor ate away at him until nothing was left but the cold empty shell he had become
Can we give props to Ewan and especially Hayden?! Physically and emotionally, I would have been drained after this scene. They knew it was a BIG moment, and they delivered ❤️
I thought of/realized a few things here: 1) When Obi-Wan lifts all those boulders with ease and hurls them at Vader, I really felt like perhaps he would have been chosen to be Grand Master next when Yoda died of the events of Ep. III played differently. 2) I think he got through briefly to Anakin (thus the blue reflection before it turned to red when Vader took control back) when he said he was sorry. Anakin say “I am not your failure…”, Vader always referred to Anakin as “Anakin” or “Anakin Skywalker”, never “I”. It feels like Anakin was trying to help Obi-Wan rid himself of the guilt, then Vader took over and finished him releasing his guilt and accepting Anakin was truly gone. This goes along with when Ahsoka broke the mask and Anakin spoke to her by saying her name briefly, not calling her Skywalker’s padawan or apprentice as I believe he did before and after that during the interaction. There was always that small glimmer of hope that Anakin was still there, proving Padme right in the end. 3) Vader saying he killed Anakin really brings it to a close and gives Obi-Wan his “certain point of view” perspective.
Waited years to see them slug it out, and as much as I'm more of an Empire guy seeing Kenobi bring an ass whooping was epic. The saber changing colour , the epic feel of the duel, the hurt in Kenobis eyes. Brilliant, epic scene. Series was a slow build at first but bloody hell that was awesome.
Vader’s scream is beautiful. I can hear Hayden Christensen, Matt Lanter, and James Earl Jones.l in it.!He’s screaming out for Obi-wan to come back and put him out of his misery. Now he has to go back to his misery at the hands of the Emperor.
The most heartbreaking is when you hear one sentence “I’m not your failure, Obi-wan” and it sounds more like Hayden/Anakin than Darth Vader in that moment than others. That being said just being able to hear Hayden/Anakin or what remains of his voice was just so awesome with all the distortion!

Seeing Hayden’s face under the mask and his voice is heartbreaking
The "Im Sorry" was so genuine. Like when someone was so speechless with horror or shock or straight up heartbreak they cant think of anything truly to say. I was fine until i heard him say that in the show. Then my eyes just watered instantly.
We all know we started to almost or actually cried when obiwan said "I'm sorry anakin, for all of it" if ya didn't feel anything from that then you're no true star wars fan from movies 1-6
I started crying at the very first wheeze after the breathing device was damaged 😭
I didn’t cry but I felt very sad inside and it really hit hard
Not just the movies but the clone wars animated series as well. It all adds up.
I love how ever single fight between Vader and Kenobi ends in absolute frustration for Vader.
I teared up when Obi Wan said the "I'm sorry, for all of it" line. It seems like Anakin was back for a brief moment when he told Obi Wan he was not his failure. But then Vader had to come back almost right away.
There’s nothing that gives me more joy than watching fellow nerds cry over Star Wars.
Obi Wan went from the negotiator to the "you want to challenge my belief in the force" real quick.

I wanted him to say it for meme purposes ALONE. Wouldve been hysterical honestly.

Did you saw how honorless kenobi attacked Darth Vader from behind. Here we see an example on how evil the republic is.
I thought of/realized a few things here:
1) When Obi-Wan lifts all those boulders with ease and hurls them at Vader, I really felt like perhaps he would have been chosen to be Grand Master next when Yoda died of the events of Ep.
