"Why Johnny Ringo, you look like somebody just walked over your grave."
Funny thing is he did just step over where Ringo lies dead at the end. Lots of people got lots of ideas how Ringo died. I like this version.
Wonder who would win Doc Holiday vs Wild Bill
@@latinace1981don’t be ridiculous. Bill
@@Wh4L205why? Nobody can be certain of who wins between two warriors until the warriors have fought and one lays dead. Anybody who has watched any sort of combat knows that certainty of anything is nonsense.
@@TimRHillardeveryone thinks Doc Holiday calls Ringo a Huckleberry…but he doesn’t. Back in the 1800’s the handles on a coffin were called Huckles. And the person carrying the coffin was called a Huckle bearer. So now that we know he says I’ll be your Huckle bearer… the next line about Ringo looking like someone walked on his grave, has a deeper meaning. Doc Holiday basically says I’ll be you pallbearer at your funeral and said Ringo you look like someone walked on your grave.
This is one of the greatest performances of all time, Val Kilmer as Doc Holliday.
The best acting job by Kurt Russell in this scene realizing his friend saved his life.
Don't forget Michael Biehn his acting was on par with Kilmer's. One of my all time favorite movies!
Greatest movies ever!
Incredible film!!!!!
Dennis Quaid also gave a great performance as Doc in Wyatt Earp, but Val is my most favorite. Quaid was rightfully nominated for an Oscar, but it's criminal how Val was overlooked.
When Doc says “I wasn’t” with that subtle grin and piercing stare…..chills every time. My favorite moment in the movie :).
It is THE MOMENT. He owned the devil, the baddest man in Tombstone was shook.
@@rickkadets5139 It's hucklebearer... That is what the handles are a coffin are called..A huckle....Doc is refering being a ringos funeral carrying his coffin.
@@williamwashburn8604 you having a conversation with yourself?
@@williamwashburn8604no sir, it's a southern phrase meaning I'm your man. Essentially if your looking for trouble I'm your huckleberry.
Then he blows smoke and takes a drag on a stogie WITH TB and shows that badge. It’s symbolic he’s smoking and has TB every time he does in the movie. It’s kind of a subtle way to say he’s not afraid of, and welcomes death. My favorite scene too.
I loved it when he said, "I'm your huckleberry," and stepped into the light. Johnny was already dead because the moment he saw Doc, his soul left his body.
His entire demeanor went from killer to pacifist 😂😂😂
I just learned something that might find interesting. He doesn't say "huckleberry" he actually says "huckle bearer" which in modern parlance is pall bearer.
@@user-fc3zz9ve2jsame here. Searched this clip just to check what he says.
@user-fc3zz9ve2j That's an internet urban legend. I've done much research and every bit of it verifies it's "huckleberry"
@@worldslargestnerd Touche. Even when I first watched the film I ignorantly thought "I'm your Huckleberry" was just a stylish Hollywood line and that it incongruous to the scene. Then learning about the phrase huckle bearer it seemed to assuage my initial confusion all those years ago. However while it seems both colloquialisms huckleberry and huckle bearer were in use during the time period I'm your huckleberry seems far more apt in the timing of the interaction and for the denotation of the idiom. The things you learn!
This "Dance Of Death" close-range quickdraw was probably never done, but goddamn it makes for a great movie scene.
There's one reported case of it, but there's also pre western examples of a similar concept. In fact dueling was perfectly legal up until the late 19th century, and in its original style, it would've looked a lot like the stereotical western duel.
The issue is that in the west no one really needed to prove their skill, if they're an outlaw, they're more likely to sh00t you in the back. If they're a lawman, same deal, they'd rather end something quick and easy rather than a duel.
@@Baelfyre That makes sense. In real combat, you take every advantage you can get.
That was a common practice dueling at close range. It ensured that one lived and one died by way of the fastest draw. The whole firing at 20 paces shit was avoided because of the difficulty of a kill shot. Both guys would end up wounded and still firing. Back then you take a bullet your as good as dead. So close rage duels were very common and often took place in saloons where most of the action happened
I mean you’d have to think there were countless times this type of scenario would happen. How many times have you seen two dudes daring the other to swing first. Same concept
Edit: the scene in this movie when holiday beats that guy in poker and they are both armed and it becomes a game of chicken of who his going to draw first and instigate the situation. Pretty realistic scenario
Who would be dumb enough to do that?Is an idiot
There’s only a handful of films I can watch over and over that never get old. Every time I watch this movie, I realize some other detail about how great the conflict and the characters are. This movie is a masterpiece.
The slow motion "Noooooooooooo" was a terrible choice by the director I can't help but laugh every time. That's about my only criticism although other kurt russell scenes came off a bit cheesy as well. The other performance were absolutely fantastic though and the writing was excellent.
@@faretheewell3711 definitely agree 😂 It’s one of the only cringe moments in the movie.
I feel the sand way about "Heat" !
The last charge of Wyatt Earp and his immortals. Hell yeah.
30 years. One of the best scenes ever!!
Can watch this movie over and over
Best scene best western period
Doc holiday is captivating in this movie. Val kilmer really was awesome in this movie. When one comes away from tombstone you will always remember doc holiday , his pale intense glare , as though hes already gone beyond this world but still walks amongst men
I'm afraid the..strain was more than he could bear - one of my favorite lines from any movie.
It was at this point, Ringo was convinced, that he had truly fucked up.
Haaaaaa
He tried to psych himself up, put on his game face, but yep, he knew it was over.
Hahahahaha!
@@giorgiocosentino509when Ringo wanted to play for blood he was drunk. During the duel with Doc he was sober and realized this was the hour of his reckoning
That split second when Ringo says “I didn’t think you had it in you!” With the utmost confidence but takes that involuntary half step back when Doc replies “I’m your huckleberry”. You can see ringos soul leave his body.
Hearing that soft and sinister "I wasn't," you know your azz is as good as dead lol
Doc was a savage he mocked Ringo 4 times in this movie. When they first met, when Johnny was drunk and twice after Doc shot him. The greatest insult, was placing the badge on Johnny, cause he hated the law. 😂.
I was wondering why he placed the badge on him. Thanks for clarifying!
@@newlife.vanessacalfan I think it was more of a self-humbling as he said “my hypocrisy only goes so far”. It was a way of him accepting that he is a killer, even if it was legal
Doc got that badge from Wyatt to ensure Ringo would fight him. Ringo tries to back out until Doc reveals the badge this was the ultimate slap in the face to Ringo. Ringo wasn't to be killed by the outlaw Doc Holliday but by Wyatts deputy Doc Holliday. Ultimately it was the law that sent Ringo to his grave which is why Holliday left the badge for the other cowboys to see
Was confused the first time I heard the daisy thing. I mistook it as an insult. He's actually saying (in as many words) "If you can pull that off, you'd be better than me."
Later chases a brain-shot man to remind him "You didn't pull it off, you aren't better than me. Poor fool, you were just a loud-mouth, and now you're dead."
The greatest Instakill in movie history. So fast that Ringo is dead for a good 3 or so seconds before his body realizes it. He's still trying to walk, talk, even fires one last shot, but his soul is long gone.
To make it even better, there's a popular theory that Doc shoots Ringo right there in that specific spot in the head because it "paralyzes" that side of the body and prevents Ringo from being able to lift his arm up to shoot back! Doc could have instantly killed him by shooting him center in the forehead or in the heart or something, but he didn't. He specifically shot right there to keep Ringo from being able to lift his arm!
Wow didnt know that @@etienneroberts5086
@@etienneroberts5086 Yeah, but that's nonsense. He shot him in the head, not a specific spot on purpose. The rest was just cinematics.
@@SealofPerfectioneh he was a medical student at valdosta University who graduated before 21 so he would know that. so it wouldn't be too far off in an age of such limited knowledge hes one of the only men who would
@@jacobmoore6874 That's great, but Doc didn't kill Ringo in real life. So this is a movie, and the movie director is the one that would have needed to know this, and I very much doubt that is the case here.
I like how ringo gets called on his play for blood and immediately shits his pants and eventually accepts
Ringo was drunk when he first made that challenge and even then Doc had his gun behind his back ready to waste him
@@chrissuponcic6277 in the duel he was sober ( at least to the viewers knowledge )

This is good..but the gunfight in The Good The Bad and The Ugly is GREAT.
Truly, epically Great.

Ringo: hey OG, you know I was just joking right.
Doc: yeah I wasn’t joking. Throw down boy
Great days ,I sure do miss em 😢 🤠
"My fight's not with you Holliday." A desperate final attempt to wiggle out of his execution.
I never realized Ringo still had his gun out and Doc was waiting for him to shoot. Bravo!!!
It's well known that Doc Holliday wanted to die on his own terms. After the OK Corral it eas reported he cried like a baby and repeatedly said "this is terrible", and many believe it's because he actually wanted to die that day in a gunfight.
The "come on! Come on!" Just makes it. Lol
Doc was goading Ringo to Just maybe fire a vital last shot back to Doc to end his suffering as well. Knowing his time was just a matter of days. In his view better to die in a gentleman combat than on a bed in hospice.
It’s so cold how doc says “I wasn’t”
Straight to the temple and back in his holster, before Ringo knew what happened! Doc Holiday at least Val Kilmer’s portrayal did not play!!
As Ringo staggered...his brains already blown out!!
All contemporary sources seem to indicate that the real life Doc Holliday was nobody to mess with. Ringos fear and knowledge of his death was acted so well in this scene
Ringo's death, in my mind, is so much more brutal than most other movie deaths. Something about that mindless stumbling after being shot in the head is so unsettling, but so good.
Val Kilmet as Doc Holliiday was epic
Johnny Ringo: "And behold a pale horse, and the man who rode on him was death."
Doc Holiday: "I'm your Huckleberry."
Hucklebearer not huckleberry
@@jokemoke3727 You're the guy no one ever invites to the party because you ruin the fun for everyone

Johnny was just foolin about. Doc wasn’t.
"Oh I wasn't quite as sick as I made out, my hipocrissy goes only so far..." that lije always gets me, never had a friend who would do the same for me😂

Usually its the villain who wants to fight. I love its the hero in this ne and the bullies are shit scared.
All time acting performance by Val Kilmer as Doc Holiday
One of the greatest clips ever made!!!!!!
even at the disadvantage of being sick, he's still faster
That look on ringos face like he seen a sick horse coming for revenge 😮 lol
Grt scene!!!! The eyes , so intense
When doc said "I beg to differ sir, we started a game we never got to finish. Played for blood remember" was the coldent line, cause ringo was scared when he said "I was just foolin about" ringo had to accept his death here.
0:50
This really highlights (in the film at least) that Doc isnt truly "good" like Wyatt.
When people beg, or are afraid, Wyatt is more or less indifferent, he just arrests or kills them
Here we see Doc almost like a predator or Demon, where his opponents fear seems to galvanize his spirit. Notice that Doc was trembling before hand, but when he smells Johnny's fear, his posture becomes firm
If Wyatt was walking on water, Doc was breathing out brimstone and smoke
Sometimes killers and people with the capacity to be violently insane are simply raised properly, and end up like Wyatt or Doc. Wyatt was the former, and Doc was the latter
00:.25 --- One of my all-time favorite movie lines!
People really sleep on Ringo, he was a good character and the actor really sold it.
He was good in Allien 2 and terminator also
Yes, one of my favorites, along with, ''You tell 'em I'm comin' and Hell's comin' with me''
This is the ending we need in 2024.
If you asked me to make a list of best actors, Val Kilmer wouldn't be anywhere near it... except for this one performance - which is an absolute masterpiece. It's a glove that fits perfectly from the moment it's put on - like RDJ just Being Iron Man.
Or Heath Ledger and the Joker. 😏
Iceman? Jim Morrison? Kilmer is a damn good actor.
It was his "Crowning Role". Just like Easttwood as "Blondie".
“My hypocrisy only goes so far”. Great writing !
Rings never had his gun out and doc was waiting. Johnny was pretty fast pulling his out but Doc was just way faster. And the look that Wyatt gives him when he sees he killed Johnny is like holy shit doc lol
Doc shoots up right off the holster. Ringo is shooting straight level. Big difference. Doc knew he had to because Ringo was very good too.
At 0:22 cue in Price is Right "Sad Trombone."
Doc is one of the top 3 gunslingers of the old west . A true legend
That was like when Doc Holiday confronts Johnny Ringo Ringo. "I was just foolin' about"
That's why Holliday got the badge from Wyatt. Ringo tries to back out but once Doc reveals the badge Ringo can't back down. That's why Doc leaves the badge on Ringo so the rest of the cowboys know it was the law who left him laying
Where he was shot in the upper left region makes is absolutely possible he was able to walk and shoot that last shot though unable to control his right hand.
You’re no daisy at all
whats wild aboout this scene that goes unsaid is, doc holiday went in wyatts place knowing hes the better gun slinger and didnt want wyatt to even attempt going against johnny ringo who at that time was considered the best shooter that ever lived. true freindship. what all men crave.... brotherhood.
This is one of the greatest scenes in western movie history. Or all movies for that matter.
If only this is what really happened! Love this scene either way

I think Ringo was actually afraid here, he knew doc was dying either way and he really didn’t care. Doc won gunfights by simply not giving a crap about living
Personally, I would've went with a split-screen shot when we see Doc and Ringo's eyes. Awesome scene BTW.
“We play for blood……” Val Kilmer was exceptional in this movie.

Poor soul was just too high strung 😅😅
Dropped him while smoking a doobskin
Psychopath vs mere sociopath.
In the end, despite being much smarter despite having done so, Ringo's own hubris was what killed him. He knew that Doc was a better shot. Tried to talk his way out of the confrontation, but Doc put on an act that made him seem vulnerable by seeming weak and Ringo allowed himself to be goaded into the fight. A moment of pure lapse in judgement, then dead...
It wasn't a lapse in judgement. He wanted no part of Doc, for sure. But he also realized that he had no other choice. Doc was there, and he couldn't get out of the fight. You can see the moment where he realizes that, and lets the crazy take over and go for it. But make no mistake, it wasn't a choice, because he had no choice. Death was standing right in front of him.
Ringo tries to back out because it would simply be him not fighting another outlaw. That's why Doc is wearing the star once he reveals it Ringo has no choice but to fight. It's cowboy code they were going to kill Wyatt and all his deputies unfortunately for Ringo Doc just happened to be one that moment
Ringo has good teeth. One of the disadvantages of using modern actors in these scenes is that
This never happened.
My man talked all that shit the whole movie, but when it came down to a dual he was trying to take it all back. 😂
The "Huckleberry" debate aside (the term would have come about in the first place as slang for Huckle Bearer, but I digress), Ringo's calling Doc a "lunger" is a crass reference to why John Holliday is even there... men dying of tuberculosis in that era went West as the climate wouldn't kill them as quickly.
It could not be slang for "huckle bearer," because the term "huckle bearer" doesn't seem to exist outside of discussions about the movie _Tombstone._ It seems to have been entirely made up online sometime around 1997.
Doc Holiday let's Ringo know that regardless that he doesn't want to fight Doc, he has to because Doc is going to kill him anyways because he is a deputized lawman, so he might as well fight. He's dead either way.
Finally someone who gets it! :)
Strange when Doc starts speaking, somehow he reminded me of Lando Calrrisian.
I do t think kids these days understand man…. They still have no idea what really happened to ringo ..
Michael Biehn complimented Val Kilmer so well in this. They both deserve equal praise.
