This gives me an idea for a mod. Title "I don't know what this mod does" it adds a bunch of creepy pasta type shit but doesn't tell the player anything it does. Has a wide range of "ok that has to be the mod" to "that could be base game" sort of events.
@@shadesofslay Oooh even better! Bake it into something like a flora or weather overhaul, maybe a really cool armor/weapon mod. That'd be a lot of work, would be a lot of fun though.
I have a funny story to tell regarding this subject. On the Fallout 4 board on Game “Frequently Asked Questions” back when the game first launched, we had somebody swear up and down that they had a disembodied voice following their character around telling them to “Punish ze child!” While we all had a good laugh at their claims thinking they were telling us a yarn, it ultimately turned out that they were correct and it was an obscure glitch involving the Miss Nanny Factory’s quality assurance map that would cause the Miss Nanny’s lines that were only supposed to play in that area to haunt you across the map if you left before completing the entirety of the quality assurance unmarked quest.
I used to play fallout 4 so much man. I remember one time I found out there were some settlers that were kill-able, and after completing the main story I was pretty bored so I would just sneak into my settlements and try to take out whichever NPCs weren’t invincible. There was one time I killed somebody in sanctuary hills and started making My way to concord and I had the flashing “DANGER” title whenever I crouched. Then I heard codsworth say “come to daddy” as he tried to butcher me
10:15 The fact that THAT version of The Expressionless is the one that's survived makes me insane. There was an older version that didn't have people vomiting in terror, no dead kitten, nothing. Just a weird expressionless mannequin woman who showed up, said ominous things and vanished. Then some cretin went 'ThAt'S NoT sCaRy EnOuGh' and scribbled all over it with red crayon. ... sorry. Good video, I always love hearing gaming urban legends.
@@shadesofslay Unfortunately, no. :( I saw it on a tumblr horror blog ages ago before this version started circulating and tumblr search is... really obnoxious nowadays.
Something to note about the mannequin; There's a petrol can at its feet and a lighter in its hand, and the bones are in a circle of char - implying that it set them ablaze. ...though, of course it could also have been done with the flamer on the counter.
At 38:00 I've got well over 2500+ hours in fallout 4 but I've never thought about that codsworth line in that way before. I'll never hear that dialog the same again. Makes total sense now. I thought he was just bugging and remembering events from 200+ years ago but makes more sense that he mistaked a ghoul as a costume.
I was doing the asylum mission when I paused the game in one of the narrow hallways. When I came back I noticed a huge ghostly face in the background. It took a moment for me to realize that the window in the door I was look through had perfectly framed the holes in the wall to make a face.
The skeleton head and arms slightly moving reminds me of my first time experiencing the mannequins moving before snapping to their pedestals in Skyrim. Things that is normal for the code and that youre not meant to see but you do. And it makes you jolt
@@shadesofslay I was ten when I played the game for the first time. I cannot remember if I screamed or anything, I just know I wailed on those mannequins until i was sure they wouldnt move I then didnt touch the game for a while after that and went back to playing sims 3 for a bit. It was fine and dandy until my family got an imaginary friend doll for the newborn sim. Which really didnt help ten year old me's nerves since I didnt know that if you take the doll out of the sim's inventory and just put it down. Itll teleport around the house without warning and it may even stare at your sims. You also cannot delete the item and the sandbox trick where you buried it to get rid of it was patched out. They made it claw its way out of the sandbox like some zombie rising from the grave. the mannequins in skyrim didnt seem so bad after that honestly
The ringing phone has a movie reference point. If the memory serves correctly, in The Omega Man, Charlton Heston's character has a moment in the middle of a now unoccupied downtown Los Angeles in which he hears a phone ringing, and has to tell himself that there is no phone ringing.
You're right. Fallout has a load of references to the twilight zone too. I bring it up because Richard Mathesons who wrote "I am legend" on which "the omega man" is based wrote a lot of twilight zone episodes. Off my head I can't think of one in particular that he wrote with a phone ringing (possibly "where is everybody") but something tells me that the devs love for it spills over into anything connected with it.
Here are my thoughts on a few of these: Pre-War figure: The weirdest part about this is that the blinds normally cover that window fully, you can see this in some of the footage for this part. To be honest I didn’t know there was even a model for the bare window. So it’s 100% some weird mod or a hoax. Skeleton: I can attest that in my many hundreds of hours playing this game I’ve seen this exact thing happen probably dozens of times, skeleton physics are just like that. Headless gunner: Idk if they’re using it, but I know this is an issue with the Live Dismemberment mod if you tweak the settings in a way that lets you decapitate enemies without killing them. Ole Peg: I agree it was likely cut along with 20 Leagues Under the Sea, npcs referring to cut content is extremely common in these games. Stitch mannequins: On a side note, Whispering Hills add actual living mannequins among the regular mannequins that do come alive when you get too close. Getting caught off guard by them is terrifying. USS Consitution: Honestly, I’m kind of surprised most people HAVEN’T tried to ride it. When I first did the quest the first thing I did was reload a save and hop on lol… didn’t know you could survive it, though. Preston: This falls apart very quickly when you realize you can just have him as a companion 24/7 lol Vault-Tec Sanctuary: This is actually really interesting and I think it might actually be true, although I’m pretty sure denying people entry was just because they had a limited number of pods. And I don’t really believe they picked people based on ghoulability either, that’s kinda outside the scope of the experiment. Ghost Kellogg: If you’ll remember, after Dangerous Minds, Nick Valentine briefly talks like Kellogg. This is never brought up again and was 100% cut content. An interesting thing though is there’s an upcoming mod, Mind Games, that apparently is going to make a whole quest about that. From what I’ve seen it looks pretty cool imo. Only kind of related just thought it was interesting lol. Face on the Wall: Definitely just a mapping glitch, the proportions are because its the unwrapped face texture (it looks wide because normally it wraps around the head) and the weird colors are because its the normal map for it Crying baby: Considering that it happened over multiple playthroughs, a mod probably didn’t uninstall correctly or something and one of the files somehow got mixed up with the baby crying sound. This is a PSA to always reinstall Fallout 4 when you start a new game with a different mod list. Stalked: While this is likely just a long string of coincidences, I will say I HAVE encountered invisible enemies (in my case feral ghouls) due to messing up my mods badly enough. If that was the case here they’d probably have gotten hit eventually but yknow just putting it out there. Elevator: I’ll tell ya, trying to make an elevator work in the CK is pretty annoying. Just having the elevator model itself is only one part of the whole thing, so I agree the model probably just appeared there somehow and didn’t work because there’s a bunch of intricate stuff that goes into making it function. Spooky Shaun: Not as extreme, but Kellogg will sometimes look at you in a few of the memories while he isn’t doing anything.
Really interesting takes here! I especially agree on the Vault-Tec Sanctuary point - the limited pods explanation makes the most sense, and the "ghoulability" theory does feel like a bit of a stretch, now that you mention it. That bit about Nick channelling Kellogg is fascinating, though. I wish I'd addressed that in the video! Mind Games sounds like a mod worth keeping an eye on for sure. As for the Whispering Hills mannequins... nope, just nope. That’s nightmare fuel right there. 😅 Love seeing all these comments, detaiils, theories - thanks for taking the time to write out all of this!
One of the weirdest glitches I've had happened to me was a settler dying but reviving out of nowhere with a severed leg they'd just walk on as if it was still there. It was mainly funny, but I can't imagine the other settlers were too pleased seeing a gory one legged woman walking around on a phantom limb while they were trying to eat
The shadowed figure at the window in the prologue is an obvious altered screenshot from the game; as the blinds in Shaun's bedroom are never open in the prologue. I do like the theory that the sole survivor is a synth - as it really doesn't make sense that only Shaun and the sole survivor were the only people in the cryopods that were considered uncontaminated by radiation. It also makes Father's logs about wanting to see what his surviving parent would do after being released from their pod make more sense - as why wouldn't his surviving parent go above and beyond to find him? (doesn't matter that he was raised in the sterile environment of the institute - it's not going to make him blind/naive to how family units work).
The skeleton in the vault-tec lab coat @8:00 is probably the only skeleton in the game that can be manipulated by the player using the grab function. There's one in the wing of the crashed aeroplane near the cemetery that can be moved in this way....
@shadesofslay definitely, try it for yourself. I was doing it myself when I discovered it the other day. I used the grab function to get a hold on the skeletons head and then used the right and left mouse buttons to spin it around (I play on pc). You can also switch between the x,y and z axes of rotation to position skeletons (and corpses) as you wish. One of Crickets (the gun dealer) guards died the other day really close to one of my settlements. So I picked him up and positioned him somewhere both comfortable (and handy) so I could loot the ever respawning items in his inventory. I put him in a bathtub with a pillow behind his head to make it look as natural as possible...
@@panzerjagertigerporsche personally I have slept in several bathtubs at various points throughout my life. Those who have led a much more sheltered life than mine wouldn't know how blooming uncomfortable it is to do so ( even with a pillow or a cushion )... Besides there's several examples in the game of bathtubs being used as beds, one of which inspired me - I forget where it is but it has a half dozen or so straw pillows arranged in the bottom of it to form a rudimentary mattress...
It’s not the grab function, otherwise the activate skeleton wouldn’t be visible, it’s likely it got affected by another object and the physics engine acted up.
I keep finding groups of gunners that have gen 1/2 synth voices and dialog, the captions still say typical gunner lines but the actual lines and voices are the synth ones. It's happened twice now and its where gunners typically spawn.
I just wanted to give you props, it’s hard to stand out in the sea of TH-camrs but somehow your lore videos go above and beyond. They’re extremely detailed and good to listen to while you work. The editing isn’t bad at all, especially for someone with less than 11k subscribers. I just subbed. Glad I found this channel, keep doing amazing lore videos and I’ll keep watching. Thank you for taking the time to read this comment
I mean seriously, tbh I’m kinda in a trance with that accent. It’s nice to zone out and work while learning something I didn’t know. Seriously Slay, you gotta keep this up, I’m genuinely excited to see what comes of your channel
Thank you for these comments, I really appreciate them! It really encourages me to keep going. I still can’t believe so many people have been watching my videos.
Apparently the ghost Kellogg encounter is a random event but it was cut so the strange part is how it happened to people without mods had it happen for them
It's pretty clear it's always either a mod, or a hoax. The blinds are always closed, which he showed, so there is no way to believe that was intended by Bethesda. I don't understand why creators add these things to videos like these.
A few years ago my uncle who was playing Fallout 4 on his ps4 had encountered a weird bug after playing the Automatron DLC after clearing the General atomics building and getting killing the robobrain there then leaving only to hear the audio lines from the nani bot (curies voice) constantly saying randomly “ punnish the child” “please punish Timmy” while he was out and about, I of course knew where it originated from and he mentioned that he never did the part where he had to enter the room where this event is supposed to happen from. It started to drive him nuts because even though he would reload his save game it would still happen. I have tried since to try and trigger this simply because I found it hilarious and because I love curies voice, but it was to no avail
People really rag on the settlement system but I think it's a natural progression of the game's mechanics. Honestly I don't think they took it far enough, I think it should have been a whole faction creation system. Your enemies, deciding on who they are, have their own resources, allies, hidden bases to skulk and plan from. You need those as well. It doesn't make sense that one guy, no matter how bad axe, can take on armies upon armies of people. Unified by a person or cause, fully resourced and outfitted. You need those allies as well, and you need them to be as fitted and as resourced up as them. Not to mention, the logistics of actually creating a bigger 30 to 50 settlers settlement in an area that hasn't been inhabited in probably 100 plus years. The power vacuum being filled is so immense that any good, large settlement could be considered its own faction. Like a city state. 😅
This is why I absolutely love Sim Settlements 2! It basically allows for that - it's so amazing. One of my fave mods ever - it's an astounding achievement.
I have a weird story to tell. It happened to me while playing Fallout 76 (yes I know it is a glitchy game but it is still worth telling), I was looking for a perfect spot for my camp in the ash heap. Then I stepped upon one of the many blood eagle outposts, everything was normal until an empty power armor frame attacked me. It had a raider power armor set on but there was no user. I don’t know if someone else has ever found something similar but it certainly was a funny spooky glitch. I took some pictures of it with the camera.
Love that! I’m gonna be trying to cover 76 as well but I actually have to play it properly first 😂 I have a fallout first sub that’s been accruing for ages now but haven’t had the time to sit down and play it
you deserve so much more attention, Your voice is so great to sit and draw to. I cant help but get lost into the video yet still pay attention to what you're saying. Props to ya fellow fallout enjoyer!
Yes, I had a ghost elevator appear in the lobby of Mass Fusion when I was looking for the Beryllium Agitator. Completely static, just floating near the front door.
Another banger of a video, brother! Wasn't able to watch it last night, but it made for a great coffee time in the morning for Christmas Eve. Hope you have a happy holidays and a Merry Christmas, Shades! Much love, brother 🙌🎄
13:20 it's just a case with mods, as the weapon they are using indicates that, it's most definitely from the mod Live dismemberment or another mod that adds live dismemberment.
Also that skeleton moving is very common skeletons are npcs that have been program to be "Dead" yet the rag doll physics stay so it sometimes bugs out.
I used the Preston Garvey Theory in a fallout 2D20 campaign. It wasnt Preston himself but it was a high ranking member of the minutemen who was orchestrating events by hiring raiders and gunners (I threw talon company in there too) to rise the ranks and carve out his own little empire. The best part, he paid for raiders to wound him, got the players to chase the raiders and was gone when they returned. From there on in he was a synth and it took them weeks to figure it out even though his personality changed.
One bug I’ve encountered that blurs the line between fun, annoying, and terrifying happened to me on my first visit to the Kingsport Lighthouse. I remembered seeing the place in a video and thinking it was one of the coolest settlement locations in the game, so upon spotting it in the distance on my way to Salem, I immediately took a detour to claim it as my own. Upon beginning the process of evicting the Children of Atom, however, something strange happened. In the middle of combat, the two preachers standing guard outside the house would just sort of fade into intangibility, becoming invisible and unable to be hit while still shooting me with their gamma guns. Reloading the save several times, I was able to reproduce the bug, proving to myself that they weren’t using Stealth Boys as they played no activating animation beforehand, their models instead just becoming increasingly transparent until eventually fading away entirely, and they lacked the distinct shimmering effect as other enemies when using Stealth Boys. Eventually, I was able to drop the two before they pulled their disappearing act and then got on with taking the lighthouse without further incident. This being my first Fallout game, I initially thought that this was just something that the Children of Atom could do once they reached a high enough level. It seemed pretty in-line with their belief in alternate universes that Atom would just grant them the ability to cross freely between other realities, so I didn’t question it much. I only found out later while talking to some friends that this is in fact not something the Children are supposed to do and that my encounter with the preachers was likely a bug.
I encountered a dead doppelganger of my character, but it happened to me in vault 111. I had a mod that turned every creature legendary, including the vault radroaches. I was on survival and hadn't reached the room where you get the gun so I died a few times since the roaches do a lot of damage when they mutate. One of my deaths occurred at the doorway to the room with the reactor that shoots lightning (I was trying to kite the roaches into the reactor and take shelter by closing the door that leads to that room but I missed the door and was killed). This was like my 4th or 5th death, but when I respawned and got back to that room, I saw Nora's corpse in a vault suit with an extra police baton beside her. I chalked it up to a glitch, maybe I respawned to quickly and too frequently, maybe the game bugged out because it's unusual to rack up so many deaths in the vault, I don't know. But hearing other people encountered it elsewhere, especially in a whole other dlc area makes this feel a lot creepier now
While there's no way a retexture could trigger what's detailed in the mannequin story, everything is otherwise very achievable through a plugin. Honestly, the idea of a seemingly innocuous mod being a secret horror overhaul is a really good one
I remember playing Nuka World when it was first released and inside the Nuka Cola Bottling Plant there was a room that involved floating (I think my character did the swimming animation). I'm doubtful that it was a bug because other items like Nuka cola bottles and wooden crates were floating too. I think this was a reference to the part in Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory where they have drinks that make them float. My guess is that it was removed early on because it was really buggy.
I wonder what the mystery is surrounding there being no female Trappers. There are female Settlers, Raiders, Gunners, Minutemen and even synths. But Trappers? All men. That is always the oddest thing that sticks out to me in Far Harbour.
Maybe trappers are insanely conservationists ("conservatives"? English ain't my first language, sorry) and their women are locked inside or something 🤷🏻
Worth the wait! I thought I was going to see a lot that I've heard about before, but to me, this was fun from the first lore story to the last, and so well written, of course. Even if there were a few stories I heard before, your narrative kept me hooked. I especially appreciate the fact that you are specific about the year when discussing player stories as well. I'll leave you with an inquiry-- have you made a video on the Far Harbor DLC? It felt unique to me as far as DLCs go. Happy Holidays, Slay, and thanks for this! ❤❤
Thank you, I really really appreciate this :) I'll try to continue being specific with the years!! And - I haven't made a video specifically on that DLC yet, but I have a plan to look at DLC's as a group for each of Bethesda's games! Thank you and happy holidays to you too :)
I mean the mannequin is holding a cigarette throwing a lighter and has gas cannister with it so... I think it's pretty safe to assume it's responsible.
I've had the unkillable BoS pilot a couple of times, once in the Slog and once in a mod added land. Alwyas nude, unkillable, and settlers are hostile. I'm sure I fould a reddit post calling it a know glitch. I believe I just used console "Disable" on the pilot.
Love these vids, they're so cozy. I had a pretty unsettling experience in Fallout 4 recently. I was in Far Harbor and I sniped a Trapper who was kneeling by a campfire. They didn't ragdoll and instead their arms started undulating/pulsating in a pretty unnerving way and the splatter sound from their head getting blown off looped. I fast travelled away and the sound the corpse was making continued so I had to restart my game. Obviously a physics bug but was pretty creepy isolated in the Far Harbor wilderness out in the fog.
I've encountered the skeleton one tons of times now. 9 times out of 10 when I start a new file I see it moving. Im fairly certain I've caught it on stream before but I'm not 100 percent certain. Id have to go back and rewatch all my fallout 4 streams to confirm
The Skeletons move because the Objects are placed by Hand in the Environment, and the Hitboxes are alot bigger than the Objects themself. If anything touches them, they push themself off the Ground and spatically start to move. I had a RAD-Hound fall from the Sky once in Fallout 76, so they definetly did not patch it out before copy pasting the Code.
I see the video finally processed, nice. But seriously I'm loving this series and I wouldn't be against it moving onto other game series's one your done with fallout and the elder scrolls games.
This is a really great video! In Fallout 76 Mannequin's are NPC's, and you can use them to activate pressure plates to help you merge objects when building. So they're probably NPC's in Fallout 4 too. So it'd probably be pretty easy to give them some invisible Area of Effect attack without having them move normally, and make them teleport over you when you die. Would be insanely unnerving to come across that though! Fallout 76 has a haunted location, "Alpine River Cabins". The paintings on the walls move, and the doors close by themselves. There are also random screams that you can sometimes hear way off in the distance. The first time i saw it, i thought i was going crazy lol. I waited around for quite a while to see if it would happen while i was looking. Eventually it did, then i found a holotape about it in a different cabin. So it wouldn't surprise me if they had some of those in FO4, and maybe turned it up to 11 in FO76 so that you could tell it was intentional and not just a bug.
22:14 This is true for all synths who don't know what they are. If the synth theory is true, the meeting with the ghoulified Vault rep only proves that the replication was good enough to fool an ancient ghoul's 200+ years old memory from the worst day of his life. I don't think that the player's recollections are that nuanced either, they could've been constructed memories based on documents from the 2070's (movies, interviews, correspondence by contemporary veterans, etc). I agree with your point that Father wouldn't want a synth director, but that's only a problem if he ordered the synth and it wasn't not a power play or cruel experiment by another scientist. If it was one of the section leaders, then they are trapped by Father's surprise succession announcement. They are still better off going along with the charade hoping to regain control and become the puppet-master, rather than admit to the ruse and risk an outraged Shaun having them executed or exiled. Overall the arguments for a synth Soul Survivor aren't the strongest, but the arguments against it feel flimsier and very superficial.
I was playing the Nuka World DLC well past midnight once when I accidentally cornered the ghost girl in the attic. She just kept standing there, and she was immune to bullets (I reacted badly to jump-scares). The whole experience was definitely unsettling, especially when sleep deprived.
Regarding the giant skeleton in Pine Crest Cavern: if only there were some sort of giant, mutated human subspecies in the Fallout world with a penchant for taking human body parts as food and trophies...
12:30 That bug is real. I once had in Railroad. Deacon even sited on the chair like this. This bug was caused by minigun with a legendary effect, which gives a chance to remove opponent's head, but after this effect was trigered some characters survived with 1 hp (but without a head). And also I got into a developer's room when was trying to leave Railroad's base, that place is strange.
The East Boston Police Station actually has information in a terminal about a pre-war serial killer putting bottlecaps in his victims eye sockets, I doubt it's related, but it does add to the unnerving atmosphere.
I think the general synth question is easy to solve. Teeth. From Maccready, most wastelanders have rotten teeth, and I doubt that the institute can naturally replicate years of tooth decay. The only obvious exception are vault dwellers.
The baby crying noises in Vault 114 is a recurring thing with my copy of Fallout 4. Every time I go to Vault 114 I hear it. I think it has something to do with being in combat with trigger-man in the vault because I have heard the crying when fighting trigger-men (rarely) in other locations. Ether way, I'm used to it now and it add to the creepiness of the location.
I've actually dealt with a moving skeleton on Fallout 4 as well. I forget where I was searching but in the corner was a female skeleton sitting on I think a barrel and as I turned to walk out I see it flexing it's hand like there's supposed to be a melee weapon there
Great video. Thank you for your content, it is both interesting even if i have heard it all before, as well as engaging. Lovely to draw to while listening/watching. -Faye⚓
10:11 immediate post-war corpse disposal, Gunners came later, moved creepy mannequin into the room and locked the door the flamer on the counter is the reward for exploration and is guaranteed loot
The second one is Path of a Psycho mod. It's a killer that is after you and your family. You track him during the game. The quest nod is fantastic. Spooky, with the constant threat of this man who is still alive, watching you as you follow in his footsteps.
Just a typical day in the fo universe lol Thats one of the things i like about 76 they introduced photomode, i get to photograph all gliches and bugs while stricking an awesome pose.
I saw a synth watching me from the upstairs balcony then it ran away. When I found it again it jumpscared me from a room. Scariest thing I've had happen
I've had a rare encounter in Fallout 4. I'm not calling it an urban legend, because it wasn't creepy at all. I had been playing for a while, a couple of hours, on one of my Survival Games, on the ps4. My character was the stock, base Nora, I think I also called her that. Anyway, I was at the Castle, messing with something, and I turn around and Codsworth is there, but he's golden. I had heard that Codsworth's stats would dramatically lower if I ever selected him on an automatron workbench, Is I made a point to never do so. I don't remember for sure what I did, but I'm pretty sure that I decided to modify him on the station, and it gave him his original color back. I remember doing some research, and iirc, it had something to do with a forgotten contest that took place back at the game's release. Maybe some kind of memory leak made it happen. I have a clip of it on my channel. It's in French, though. Still, it's footage from the game so it gets the point across nonetheless. Edit: My character wasn't named Nora, but Codsworth did have a bowler hat on. Maybe that's the key?
I remember coming across Kellogg ghost, once in Sanctuary hills, once in the RR HQ, and a couple of times around the Commonwealth randomly. The thing is none of my companions reacted to him nor did anyone in SH or the RR. When I put Kellogg down once Curie scolded the SS for randomly firing. While Ada asked "sir what are you shooting at?"
I had a glitch or something. So I was in the glowing sea looking for the shack where the institute is and when I found, I went for the power armor that’s in there but something about it was wrong, like it was just worn in battle. There was blood stains and the suit had damage on it but I didn’t care so I just put it on and the second I got of of the institutes bunker in the shack the right arm broke, just randomly and I thought it may be just an enemy who broke it but there was nothing. I went to sanctuary to repair it but when I got to sanctuary the power armor took me out of it and all the armor pieces came of. NOTE: I was not using mods
I got video of another mannequin related oddity I was testing horror themed mods and while testing Whispering Hills, a Silent Hill Mod. Which yes, adds in the iconic Mannquin enemies, they have their original skins, VATS tag as "Mannequin" sound effects and more I was clearing a backyard in Goodneighbor of some Mumblers and thought I saw something in a window, checked it with VATS to see if hostile. VATS locked on to a nameless enemy. Puzzled I went to investigate only to find it was targeting a non-Silent Hill mannequin, a vanilla asset. To MY recollection VATS wont target friendlies, and will only NPCs with hostile tag, so I entered the house, to investigate, and found the room was filled with three Mannequins, VATS still locking on to the one enemy with no nametag. So I did as anyone would, and shot it. It didnt remove the head, but instead bled, it roared and rag dolled. I shot the other two for good measure, both regular, non-bleeding mannequins whose heads just pop off like normal. When investigating I came across some unsubstantiated claims that Synths can camouflage as Mannequins, and are rarely discovered. Fine, but why didnt I get any experience for the kill? Every Synth you kill grants EXP. And this False-Mannequin didn't. Eventually I wondered if it was a bug in the mod and removed it. Reloading the save still had all three mannequins present, two without heads, and one still unlootable false- mannequin corpse
That’s proper eerie. The fact that VATS targeted it and it bled when shot is weird. I’ve heard the Synth mannequin theory too. Weird it stuck around after removing the mod.
This gives me an idea for a mod. Title "I don't know what this mod does" it adds a bunch of creepy pasta type shit but doesn't tell the player anything it does. Has a wide range of "ok that has to be the mod" to "that could be base game" sort of events.
Could be proper spooky! Or make a mod that SEEMS totally innocent and adds stuff too. Would be even more surprising.

Ha! So they were eventually vindicated! Thanks for sharing this little tale!
Whenever I walk on the train tracks in game, I always worry and feel like a train is going to come barreling down the tracks.
I've felt that, myself!
@ probably because we were taught to be aware while walking on them irl
@ Indeed. A good instinct to have.

Codsworth sounds like a horror movie villain in this 😂 reminds me of Predator mimicking human lines. “Want some candy?”

The fact that THAT version of The Expressionless is the one that's survived makes me insane.
I'd love to read the original Expressionless... do you know where I could find it? And - thank you :)
@@shadesofslay Unfortunately, no. :( I saw it on a tumblr horror blog ages ago before this version started circulating and tumblr search is... really obnoxious nowadays.
@@Morigale Aw - shame! If you ever find it, lemme know!
The one I read had her say "I am god' or something and biting one dude
Something to note about the mannequin; There's a petrol can at its feet and a lighter in its hand, and the bones are in a circle of char - implying that it set them ablaze.
...though, of course it could also have been done with the flamer on the counter.
Absolutely - strange that the mannequin didn't melt if it was there all along tho!
It's amazing how perspective can shift even after so many hours playing a game, eh!
I was doing the asylum mission when I paused the game in one of the narrow hallways. When I came back I noticed a huge ghostly face in the background. It took a moment for me to realize that the window in the door I was look through had perfectly framed the holes in the wall to make a face.
Edward should have been a possible companion after the Cabot house quest.
I've always wanted to know what's happening when you load into the commonwealth and off in the distance a car is randomly falling off an overpass.
Yes, the mystery of the falling cars... I should have covered that!
The radscorpions falling from the sky reminded me of the cows and horses that would rarely fall from the sky in Skyrim.
In my recent skyrim save ive had mammoths fall from the sky and die multiple times, it doesnt even phase me im just like "lol thats funny"
The skeleton head and arms slightly moving reminds me of my first time experiencing the mannequins moving before snapping to their pedestals in Skyrim.
Things that is normal for the code and that youre not meant to see but you do. And it makes you jolt
Yeah the mannequin thing scared the absolute bejesus out of me when I was playing way back, before it was known!
@@shadesofslay I was ten when I played the game for the first time. I cannot remember if I screamed or anything, I just know I wailed on those mannequins until i was sure they wouldnt move
I then didnt touch the game for a while after that and went back to playing sims 3 for a bit.
Very cool. You reckon there’s a potential Easter egg reference going on there?
@@shadesofslay That would be my guess.
Here are my thoughts on a few of these:
Pre-War figure: The weirdest part about this is that the blinds normally cover that window fully, you can see this in some of the footage for this part.
Preston: This falls apart very quickly when you realize you can just have him as a companion 24/7 lol
Vault-Tec Sanctuary: This is actually really interesting and I think it might actually be true, although I’m pretty sure denying people entry was just because they had a limited number of pods.
Face on the Wall: Definitely just a mapping glitch, the proportions are because its the unwrapped face texture (it looks wide because normally it wraps around the head) and the weird colors are because its the normal map for it
Crying baby: Considering that it happened over multiple playthroughs, a mod probably didn’t uninstall correctly or something and one of the files somehow got mixed up with the baby crying sound.
Love seeing all these comments, detaiils, theories - thanks for taking the time to write out all of this!
7:20 so the guy Is real but just from a mod. It's called path of a psycho and seems to be a neat little horror mod, definitely cool though
I was gonna say, ive had that mod on a few playthroughs, its nice, but a little hard to follow
Ah thank you! Someone else said the same too :) I'm gonna read into the mod a bit now!
OH! I THOUGHT THAT CAME FROM SIM SETTLEMENTS AND IT WAS MAGNUSSON!!
was disappointed I didn't get to kill him at the mod's climax
One of the weirdest glitches I've had happened to me was a settler dying but reviving out of nowhere with a severed leg they'd just walk on as if it was still there. It was mainly funny, but I can't imagine the other settlers were too pleased seeing a gory one legged woman walking around on a phantom limb while they were trying to eat
Yeah that'd put anyone off their dinner!
It's happened to me a few times but that's because I had a mod installed called realistic blood and gore so it might just be a mod issue
ISSSSSS it! Do you reckon that's what was happening in the vid? It didn't look like it... but, it's interesting that it's possible! What do you think?
@@Vandal_Savage "as natural as possible" yes, because it is super natural to sleep in a bathtub instead of a bed/mat
That is so weird! Sounds creepy as heck!
bout to look into fo4edit and debunk this. things have to exist in the game files for them to actually happen.
verify your game files
Apparently the ghost Kellogg encounter is a random event but it was cut so the strange part is how it happened to people without mods had it happen for them
Thanks for giving us all a wee bit more info :) and yes, it is rather mysterious...
5:10 it's a mod called "path of a psycho" it's a pretty good dlc! I haven't played it in a while but I know it has horror elements
It's pretty clear it's always either a mod, or a hoax. The blinds are always closed, which he showed, so there is no way to believe that was intended by Bethesda. I don't understand why creators add these things to videos like these.
Because it's all in good fun?
Js the hour long videos with how soothing your voice is.. a simply perfect combination. Looking forward to more!
Thank you 🙂 lots more to come!
Proper creepy voicelines to have repeated over and over with no context!
Thank you, I really appreciate this - glad to help an artist relax and do their work :)
Always a pleasure when you upload! Love these urban legends videos so much
Thanks for this, really appreciate it :) glad you're loving the series!
No problem!!!
Yes, I had a ghost elevator appear in the lobby of Mass Fusion when I was looking for the Beryllium Agitator.
Completely static, just floating near the front door.
What is it with all these rogue elevators all over the place?? It's an epidemic!
Another banger of a video, brother! Wasn't able to watch it last night, but it made for a great coffee time in the morning for Christmas Eve. Hope you have a happy holidays and a Merry Christmas, Shades! Much love, brother 🙌🎄
Thank you - I'm glad you enjoyed it with your morning Christmas Eve coffee! Same to you - hope you have an amazing Christmas and New Year :)
13:20 it's just a case with mods, as the weapon they are using indicates that, it's most definitely from the mod Live dismemberment or another mod that adds live dismemberment.
most of these myths are just people forgetting the mods they have
Thanks for the clarification! :)
I have that mod and its still terrifying occasionally seeing a headless person/ghoul make a b-line directly at you
Not entirely, I've encountered this during vanilla play through on a ps4
Children of Atom literally phasing out of reality! Love it!
But hearing other people encountered it elsewhere, especially in a whole other dlc area makes this feel a lot creepier now
Thanks for sharing that detailed account! And yes - it is pretty creepy - it almost feels intentional...
My first thought on the skeleton at 33:49 is that its a predator reference
That's so weird - never heard of that phenomenon before! Also, I like your theory... you never know, it could be the case!
I wonder what the mystery is surrounding there being no female Trappers. There are female Settlers, Raiders, Gunners, Minutemen and even synths. But Trappers? All men. That is always the oddest thing that sticks out to me in Far Harbour.
They're like the dwarves from Lord of the Rings!
Maybe trappers are insanely conservationists ("conservatives"? English ain't my first language, sorry) and their women are locked inside or something 🤷🏻
the skeleton glitch has been a glitch from the beginning, since 2015
2:22
"Shes just standing there, menacingly!"
Was hard to recreate the report from the player :P
Get out of there SpongeBob!!!
every time you said figure around the 5th minute i thought you said "fecker" 😭
Ha! I say that IRL but never in videos :P
You just keep making pure bangers wow keep it up man
Thank you - just enjoying making vids about stuff I enjoy! ❤️
I mean the mannequin is holding a cigarette throwing a lighter and has gas cannister with it so... I think it's pretty safe to assume it's responsible.
Homicidal mannequin-iac
I've had the unkillable BoS pilot a couple of times, once in the Slog and once in a mod added land. Alwyas nude, unkillable, and settlers are hostile. I'm sure I fould a reddit post calling it a know glitch. I believe I just used console "Disable" on the pilot.
YES! I've been waiting for this one for a hot minute now.
Hope you enjoyed it!
Synth sole survivor counter argument:you have no natural resistance outside of perks
Cozy is a vibe I'm happy to create :) and damn, that sounds creepy as hell!
some of these are so creepy. I was genuinely creeped out by them! Love it!
I'm glad you enjoyed it :)
Those skeletons in the vault move like that in so many of my runs I just thought it happened to everyone
The Mannquins, like the crows and the seagulls are synth "Watchers".
Love this idea! Is it… true? 😒
I've encountered the skeleton one tons of times now. 9 times out of 10 when I start a new file I see it moving. Im fairly certain I've caught it on stream before but I'm not 100 percent certain. Id have to go back and rewatch all my fallout 4 streams to confirm
It does seem to be a fairly common event, according to the comments!
I remember trying to find stuff underwater when I found that mutated dolphin. So much fun
Loved finding those sorts of things first time around as well ❤️
Just in time for a rest. I already know this is a good one.
Hope it helped you have a good rest :)
Legacy charm!
The guy in the window is a mod path of a phyco
Ah yes, my phyco score.
I see the video finally processed, nice.
But seriously I'm loving this series and I wouldn't be against it moving onto other game series's one your done with fallout and the elder scrolls games.
Yeah took foreverrrrr! And - I've been thinking of doing that too - there's SO MANY that could be covered...
SCOTLAND FOREVERRRRRRR(you have a very soothing voice and I’m gonna fall asleep to this video)
Love the Scotland love :D - and thank you - hope you enjoy it!
I've seen that mysterious figure outside the window somewhere else the rooftops were also glitching around him.
Thank you! And that's really interesting about 76 - I really want to get into it. I have an account all ready to go!
Really enjoyed reading your thoughts and assessment of that section of the video :)
Lots of spookiness! 👀 great video as always! 🤍
One of the creepiest things I’ve seen was the giant metal face in one of the quarries underwater.
I was playing the Nuka World DLC well past midnight once when I accidentally cornered the ghost girl in the attic. She just kept standing there, and she was immune to bullets (I reacted badly to jump-scares). The whole experience was definitely unsettling, especially when sleep deprived.
Yep, sleep deprivation definitely adds to the creep factor!
Regarding the giant skeleton in Pine Crest Cavern: if only there were some sort of giant, mutated human subspecies in the Fallout world with a penchant for taking human body parts as food and trophies...
I think the area it’s buried would be too far in the past to be a Super Mutant. It’s almost like a fossil poking out of the wall.
It is VERY strange. When I was a kid it felt like wandering into the back corridors of the matrix.
The East Boston Police Station actually has information in a terminal about a pre-war serial killer putting bottlecaps in his victims eye sockets, I doubt it's related, but it does add to the unnerving atmosphere.
Absolutely does!
I think the general synth question is easy to solve. Teeth.
From Maccready, most wastelanders have rotten teeth, and I doubt that the institute can naturally replicate years of tooth decay. The only obvious exception are vault dwellers.
WOOOOO SHADES OF SLAY DROPPED but ima few days late 💔
Better late than never :)
@ exactly but great video ❤️
Merry Christmas Slay!
Merry Christmas right back atcha! Thank you :)
How could anyone have the Commonwealth on their map while they are in Nuka-World? 4:01
Cos I was lazy and used coc to get there as the game deleted every single one of my saves somehow!
Definitely adds to the creepy ambience.
I've actually dealt with a moving skeleton on Fallout 4 as well. I forget where I was searching but in the corner was a female skeleton sitting on I think a barrel and as I turned to walk out I see it flexing it's hand like there's supposed to be a melee weapon there
this is the video i have been waiting for for ages
Hope you enjoyed it :)
Great video. Thank you for your content, it is both interesting even if i have heard it all before, as well as engaging. Lovely to draw to while listening/watching. -Faye⚓
Thank you Faye, you are most welcome! I really appreciate you taking the time to share that you enjoyed it :)
Maybe the man in the window is the Mysterious Stranger keeping an eye on the Sole Survivor
10:11 immediate post-war corpse disposal, Gunners came later, moved creepy mannequin into the room and locked the door
the flamer on the counter is the reward for exploration and is guaranteed loot
Plausible, indeed!
the giant skeleton in the cave reminds me of Frank hollgian
12:29 “tis but a flesh wound” - the gunner if he had a head to voice his thoughts
The second one is Path of a Psycho mod. It's a killer that is after you and your family. You track him during the game. The quest nod is fantastic. Spooky, with the constant threat of this man who is still alive, watching you as you follow in his footsteps.
Yep a couple of folk have said this and I’m curious to check it out!
Plot twist: The headless gunner was called Roland:D
😂
Just a typical day in the fo universe lol Thats one of the things i like about 76 they introduced photomode, i get to photograph all gliches and bugs while stricking an awesome pose.
Yep - it's a charming universe, indeed!
I'll take a look - love the idea of a golden Codsworth - sort of a nod to C3-P0 from Star Wars!
@@shadesofslay after some research, I'm pretty sure my clip is the only evidence of this bug happening to post-war Codsworth.
Oh, we sleeping good tonight
Love this - thank you - I use YT to watch videos to sleep to as well, so I totally love that people use mine for that too!
Yeah sure. And I'm the president of The Republic of Dave.
Plausible
I myself successfully ride the uss constitution years ago i was really proud of myself
Ada, I was shooting at the guy who kidnapped my son!
That NPC looked like Lorenzo Cabot in your second glitch, the dude staring through the window.
Indeed!
when "hazard" from overwatch makes a fallout video:
13:09 “haircut” is killing me
Ha, heck of a haircut eh? Won't be growing back anytime soon!
For some reason I remember the mannequins being a sort of weeping angel type of enemy..
Love Doctor Who so I always had that feeling about them too.
The creepy dude in the prologue? Probably the mysterious stranger :P
such an underrated channel!
2:22 Hey why'd you stop moving suddenly? "..............i shid myself......."
Ha!
Regarding Preston, the settlers at Tenpines bluff say they sent word for help with a passing trader.
Or DID they? 😜
[Preston Garvey disliked that.] *Gasp* you’re not going to help my settlements..?
@ 😂
This is not a laughing matter, lol. after 3 loading screens, we’ll show you what the minutemen can do.
@ Gotta have prep time
I had a glitch or something.
Sounds like haunted or possessed armour to me!

Bet this was about the weeping angles from Dr. Who
I love them.
I got video of another mannequin related oddity
I was testing horror themed mods and while testing Whispering Hills, a Silent Hill Mod. Which yes, adds in the iconic Mannquin enemies, they have their original skins, VATS tag as "Mannequin" sound effects and more
I was clearing a backyard in Goodneighbor of some Mumblers and thought I saw something in a window, checked it with VATS to see if hostile.
