You can get carbon steel blades for the bosch, exactly the same blades you use in the dewalt. The problem is that you have to set them every time you change the blades. The advantage of the carbide blades is that it has 2 sides (can be flipped around when dull) and has a preset height so changing blades takes a fraction of the time it takes to change carbon steel blades. You also can get a 2 blade bosch planer. A big plus with portable planers for me is the ability to switch exhaust port sides.

The carbide blades are great. I've hit steel a few times and it threw sparks. But the blades were shockingly fine. (I've never seen carbide that durable.)
Plus he had the 1632 series and that one is horrible.

Very nice presentation, you've sold me on the DeWalt, all great tips on blade durability and ease of sharpening. Exactly the type of review I was searching for. Much appreciated!

Thank you for the great information!! I just picked up a Bosch planer and am very excited that you recommend it for more finishing work! I'm an artist, so my pieces I work with require a tool that will create a nice smooth plane when done. Thank you again!

Hey, thanks for the video review. I watched it last night, and then ordered one from Home Depot and picked it up today. What a great tool! Worked perfectly right out of the box. I carve spoons and make cutting boards, so I am pretty sure this will have a nice long life with me with general maintenance. Thanks Again!

Got my own DeWalt a couple weeks ago, and saw in the paperwork that you can get a complimentary vacuum port adapter from your local DeWalt dealer if it wasn’t included in the box. Much better than using tape. 😉

This Bosch is also made in Europe (Hungary), whilst the DeWalt planer is manufactured in China. I understand it may not matter to many people, but it is a factor for me, maybe it will also help somebody else. Cheers

If you are using a corded planer the best for your rough jobs is Ryobi old model.
The cip exhaust is huge and the power on the motor is enormous and the grip ? Wormdrive still , to bad I can't attach a phone here so you know what I am talking about.

Good tips for everyone. I have a Bosch and am very careful with it replacement blades are cheap enough until you start destroying lots of them I think I paid like ten bucks for a pack of three the last time but I make them last being I am retired I would have a different choice completely on a jobsite being I never know who would need it and how careful they would be being it isn't their money people are quick to trash a piece of equipment when it's not their own I figured out a few years into business I had to become tough about my equipment my men knew better I had very little to no tolerance for my tools being jacked up.

Have i ever mentioned...... I love this channel!!!
Y'all keep it real. And fun. But very intelligent When it comes to carpentry.
Some people frown upon cordless, but we are moving to being completely cordless on site. We are so close! I bought the brushless dewalt planer, and it does everything my old corded dewalt did, without the cord. And with much better dust collection! And run time is incredible in all honesty. Check it out sometime. I use it a ton on pressure treated as well and she just eats anything up. But with wet wood, I find myselt pulling them stringy's out still. It shoots KD Fir out like it's a new Olympic sport though. Very impressed. Thought I'd share that.
Don't talk faster, talk less is awesome 😂😂😂
    Thanks y'all!

I had a cheap £60 Bosch corded plane and it was great, not as good as my cordless dewalt but one thing the Bosch had that was better was that you could switch which side the chips eject from. Why would dewalt not give us this option it makes no sense to me. Thanks for the video guys ☺

My dewalt cordless planer is the best electric plane that I've had so far though I haven't tried the Mikita equivelant and I used to be big in to Mikita and not go anywhere near to dewalt until I had all my power tools stolen and wanted to get on to the flex volt platform.
The only thing that I don't like about the dewalt plane is that you can't switch the sides for the chips to eject like I used to be able to on my corded Bosch plane.

    • @WillBravoNotEvil

Sony makes consumer _and_ pro gear. This guy is speaking to the broad, less educated market. I'd never use a tool made for finish work to knock a hump out of a 2x4.
I have a Bosch for _pretty_ and a Harbor Freight for wood butchering. But I also have olde-timey block, smoothing, jointing and jack planes, too.
The line about the Makita was a little odd. Any tool will break if abused. But I also have Dad's Speedmatic circular saw ca.1947. Still runs great if a bit heavy for all-day use.

What he didn't mention is that Bosch also makes a PL2632K model that has two blades, dual side exhaust, and can use carbon steel blades AND the carbide. It more or less gives you the best of both worlds. I almost goofed and bought the Dewalt based on this review before realizing there are two very similar Bosch models!
