He struck my fancy for the first time in "Plein Soleil" ("Purple Noon") from a foreign film festival on one of my local PBS stations back when I was a teenager in the late '70s. He was one of THE most handsome men I've ever seen! I saw "L'Eclisse," "The Yellow Rolls Royce," "Once a Thief," "Rocco and His Brothers," "Le Samourai," and his TV miniseries, "Fabio Montale." I wrote him a fan letter (can't remember if I did it in English or in my so-so highschool French), and a few weeks later, I received an autographed picture post card from him. (Alas, I lost the postcard in a fire some years later). 😢
