    Amie and I sent those lag screws as a house warming gift, and we’re glad to see them put to good use! Whale tails are just about the most flowy and addictive features out there, so great choice for the squirrel catcher.

      I also love the beginner option, not many big features have a choice where it makes the feature not as scary for less experienced riders like me.

    Great feature. Just a couple of tips. Using a small paint roller with the cheap foam rollers makes glue ups easier and faster. The easy way to get the joint on the arches to line up is to set the first arch then use a small level to mark a vertical line and cut it. Then place the second arch next to the first, line it up to where it works, and trace a line for a perfect joint. Love the content so please keep it coming.

    Hey Phil! Some tips for next time - PVA glues like the Titebond you're using only have a working time of about 10 minutes - if you take too long, they won't stick properly. For slow glue-ups like this, it's a better idea to use a slow setting epoxy or construction adhesive. In addition to having a longer working time, they are also gap filling, i.e. work properly when there are gaps between the laminations. PVA glue like the one you're using is not gap filling, and won't stick properly if you have gaps, no matter how much you use.

    It would be a cool idea to build a big roller in front of the whale tail, so you can either pump both or jump onto it. But I don't know if it would work with the speed.

    • @SkillsWithPhil
      @SkillsWithPhil  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The roller on the whale tail is what generates speed for the rest of the trail. Putting a roller in front would require sprinting from a dead stop which gets tiring quick. The way I build goes back to what I grew up doing, and that's dirt jumping. All good dirt jumps have an initial feature that helps set the speed and requires minimal pedaling.
