@@richarddixon7855 That's not true of Bea Arthur _(Maude)_ nor Betty White _(Mary Tyler Moore Show),_ who already were established TV legends by the late 1980s. They had been in the business for decades and each had starred on at least one classic TV show and won Emmys. In the 1960s, Bea also won a Tony for the musical _Mame_ on Broadway. On the other hand, Rue McClanahan had always been a bit player until _Golden Girls,_ and Estelle Getty raised her family first before entering the business in the late 1970s, when she was in her fifties.
They moved the girls on at the end pretty fast like shoo shoo , I'm not sure how this works so tell me do the starts of the award say no touching before hand or what cause a lot a lot of the time the stars receiving the award take it and don't even acknowledge the people giving them the awards , I always find this very cold. It's not surprising since she had the "starring" credit in the opening theme. But it was a terribly written introduction and not even factual. Behind the scenes, Bea was the shy one, not Rue, and Estelle was definitely not dull. Betty being sweet was the one accurate thing. Whoever was in charge should have taken a look at the Golden Globes presentation from earlier in the year. That was better.
Dean Stockwell as Al from Quantum Leap should have won. Quantum leap was clever, unique, funny, dramatic, cool, heartfelt, exciting, and compelling. But instead they gave it to the worst of the boring, whiney 30 something yuppies. 🙄

The only point of critic at GG is sometimes the dressing :-) for example here Blanches wardrobe ... the top is good but the arm solution is awfull - she should were some black long gloves ... Sophia is strange too :-)
Nowadays they have “stylists” that dress all the stars & big names head to toe so rarely a misstep but back then they probably dressed themselves. On series itself they had wardrobe dept. making decisions.
