I find it interesting that in the 80s TV executives were brave enough to cast four senior-aged women and put them in a show that to this day still is one of the best comedies ever shown on American TV. What a contrast that is to today's television and movie industries....
Three of the five nominees were from the same show. All of the four lead actresses in that show won an Emmy for that show. The power of the Golden Girls is immense.
She's always the most delighted in the cast. They're all so in character in award shows Bea is always cool and stoic Estelle is supportive big chill Rue is regal and calm And there's Betty being all smiles

I have seen pictures of her dating back to the 1950s, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a single one where she wasn’t absolutely radiant so I have no idea what fucked up crack that agent was taking but it must’ve been hella strong!

This acceptance speech is evidence as to just how fine an actress Rue McClanahan was. There is no trace of the sashaying flamboyance of the sexy but slightly delusional Blanche who, although I loved all the Golden Girls, was my favorite character on the show. Rue played her to perfection.

The best acceptance speech I ever heard in a night like this. Class, elegance, wit and beauty. Blanche Devereaux was definitely a created character (so well done) when you think that Rue, once on the air that night, did no longer sound from the South, although she was from Oklahoma. Sometimes, feeling bad, I go back to this video, and others from The Golden Girls. Miss McLanahan, you’ll be long remembered, and you deserved being awarded ! Thank you so much.
The Golden Girls have gotten me through some pretty tough days and circumstances, they are my "friends", and "Thank you for being a friend". Rest in peace, Ms. Rue McClanahan 🙏💜

This is so beautiful. Rue seriously was so emotionally touched for winning, She was so genuine and humble. This is why I loved watching award shows when I was younger. When we honestly get those whom are humble in winning.
What i love about this is seeing the cast mates all so happy and supportive of each other. These women brought something to television that can never be reproduced and you can tell that this show meant just as much to them as it does for the people who continue to binge watching the golden girls.

Perhaps this is why the Academy Awards has two presenters. This way, if one of them stumbled over a name in rehearsal, the other presenter can read them. Howie Mandel deals with some significant problems (OCD manifested primarily as mysophobia and ADHD). Although there is no mention of dyslexia in his history, he was clearly very nervous. And it didn't help when he messed up his joke about people approaching him as a doctor by not stopping at the natural punchline. He had to read the names immediately after knowing that his joke bombed before a large audience in the theater and millions watching at home.

Always loved the show, still watch it when I can. Glad Betty and Bea were nominated also, wish Estelle was in the running for it too. The look on Bea's and Betty's face was pure joy even though they didn't win. That is class, pure class.
