Its very sweet to see how she helps Estelle along here (and that's evident in later interviews as well). She wasn't yet here in the early stages of dementia as she would be near the end of the show, but even disregarding that she was apparently VERY shy in real life bordering on topophobia. So to see Betty cue her in like that is very heartwarming
@@visitjessiechan Yes.. her success took her by surprise and she wasn't as seasoned with interviews and such... but once she warmed up she was very charming and a pro.
I was coming here to basically say the same thing. I always loved Betty White, and Estelle looked so beautiful here. That bright color was so perfect on her.
I'm an American and this man who interviewed these ladies was a true gentleman and great interviewer! Here in the U.S., too many show hosts try to be as funny as the guest, instead of letting the guest shine through as they should.
The hope for humans is a resurrection of the flesh to live eternally without sin in the new heavens and new earth (world to come). Estelle was Je wish so this is what she would have believed (Isaiah 65:17). This is also a teaching for Christians (2 Peter 3:13, John 5:28-29, Revelation 21:1-5). The concept of hell doesn't exist in Ju daism and going to heaven is a pagan belief that the Christian churches adopted but Jesus taught against it: "No one has ever gone to heaven." - Jesus (John 3:13)
Betty said half the mail came from kids...well, I watched them all the time as a kid, and If I knew the address, I would have. I absolutely loved them!❤ RIP Girls 😇😇😇😇
The Terry Wogwn show , wow that's from when I was about 10 or 12 years old! 🤩 How beautifully those Golden Girls were dressed back then, I just love it! Also in the series, but then I just love everything about the eighties. Sophia was my favorite, she my idol, but they all were fantastic. They are surely missed immensely. Love from Belgium 🇧🇪🍀✌️
I find that bit hilarious on the tabloid story on Betty with three different men.😁 Although many people loved her during her life, her true love was American TV presenter Allen Ludden, who was perhaps best known for hosting the game show "Password", which is actually where the two of them met. They married in 1963, and would remain together until Allen's death in 1981. Betty gave a good reason in a later interview as to why she never remarried after this, "Once you've had the best, who needs the rest?"
I was around 10 when the Golden Girls came on. I didn’t watch it on my own. But any time I spent the night with one set of grandparents, my grandma and I would watch it Saturday evening ant 9pm, and she would giggle and blush the whole time. In 1985, and especially with my Grandma, many of the jokes, punchlines, and subjects were a little risqué. lol. Great Memories. The spin-off, Empty Next, aired right after the Golden Girls on Saturdays at 9:30pm.
Betty was wonderful in the golden girls as Rose. In fact she played later on in Hot in Cleveland the Sophia role. 1 old woman with 3 somewhat younger women, living in the same house. Golden girls 2.1! Estelle Getty was priceless as Sophia, so very, very funny. You can see they were very good friends in real life too.
Estelle’s speech was so quick here! Her memory wasn’t as bad as how everyone was making it out to be. She only had that issue when filming on tape nights because she had stage fright & it affected her short term memory (more than her dementia/illness). And a lot of the writers have said - and it’s online, too, for everyone to read and verify - that Estelle had that memory issue MORE in the beginning seasons of The Golden Girls. Then as the seasons went on she was getting better, and when she started The Golden Palace, she never had the memory issue. It’s as if she were doing it backwards; getting better as time went on but really bad in the beginning. And like I said above, a lot of that had to do with being nervous too. As time went on when she got less and less nervous and less stage fright, her memory improved. Those times that she “would write her lines down on the dining room table” or when “she ate a lot while filming because she was writing lines on the inside of her hands” only happened a handful of times. Not more than that. And remember, she’s not in every single scene. If she’s not in the same room with everyone else doing a scene, she would be featured in the next scene on and off, like it would be her scene, then the girls or one of the girls, or if it was a “pair” scene, it would show her and Dorothy for example, then it would show Blanche and Rose, then back to Sophia and Dorothy and the last scene would be Blanche and Rose again, so for those type of scenes, it would only be a maximum of 3 scenes (on and off, back and forth like I described), and taping ran for maximum 1 hour and 45 minutes on those Friday nights. So those examples of her writing her lines on her hands or on the kitchen table only happened a handful of times because of this reason, of appearing in “pair” scenes / max of “3 acts” and she isn’t the only one talking all the time, remember that too! 😆 3 other people have to talk, too! 💯 👌🏼 😆 🤷🏼♀️ That’s why I say her memory and her speech is great here, the year is 1990 here. Season 1 of Golden Girls was filmed in 1985, and Golden Palace was filmed in September of 1992 to May of 1993. Her memory gradually improved as time went on, which is why she was great in this interview in 1990. When The Golden Palace ended (unfortunately), she began to revert back and her illness unfortunately became worse, and it was the beginning of the “end”. If she didn’t stop working continuously the way she worked everyday rehearsing and filming on tape nights, her illness would’ve taken longer to get worse and she probably would’ve still been of sound and mind on her deathbed. Working does help the mind. And in her case, her job was memorizing lines! So her memory would’ve been somewhat even way before her passing. RIP Estelle 🌹🕊️🙏🏼🤍♥️
I'm actually surprised that the host is as kind and welcoming as he is, it's usually so hard to watch a man of this era interview a woman, they are usually so aloof and condescending.
Dementia is horrible!! My great grandma Grammy Giggey passed away from Alzheimer's in 2005 at the age of 87. And now in 2024, her daughter (my grandma who is 83) is in the middle stage of Alzheimer's..
What is refreshing about The Golden Girls is an 80+ person wanting to have sex showing us old folks ain't dead yet! it also shows us who were old enough to see the series that there's hope because this generation is slipping into old age I'm going to be 50 next year about the same age Blange was in the series (50 odd in UK terms!)
How adorable was Betty. So kind, empathic and generous.

Estelle wasn't yet sick here she was just always less confident than the others

What the hell are you talking about ?
@@michaelstacey8303 She had trouble during the latter part of the series
I have a hard time believing that since she them signed on for golden palace
I wasn't even born yet in 1990, I was born in 1994 and got to watch Golden Girls for the first time in 2016 and it seriously became my favourite show.
Estelle Getty was a beautiful woman I love her smile
Very pretty wasn’t she?!?! ❤️
I still watch golden girls episodes and the spin off show ones never boring
Betty is just so warm and authentic, in every single interview. So witty too. And Estelle is so beautiful. Love seeing her out of character!
Yeah, I love how Estelle is way younger and totally different to Sofia.

He was wonderful, an Irish gentleman, and very witty. Terry Wogan
I agree. Betty is the bigger star as we all know but he gave them both equal spotlight
Sir Terry Wogan was a gifted broadcaster. He was a legend. Sadly missed.
Dick Cavett
Was such a
gentleman❤
@@nl8989 Yes, he was. Even though he was before my time I have seen reruns and you're right on the money.
Such a nice interview.
And sadly noone of them are amongst us anymore

She really was the sweetest thing to ever grace this earth. I hope she's having a blast with all the greats in heaven right now
